- Living on a Tug boat is in one of the coolest things I’ve done so far in my Merchant Seamen career. From working on cruise ships in Hawaii, to sailing around Korean and making stops in Japan. Working & living on a tug boat is completely different and cool in its own right. Which company is it?Honestly, I’m under the impression you’re getting 415 day rate plus ot, which I don’t think you’ve mentioned the ot rate yet. You doing 4 hours ot everyday? With ot/12 hours total per day, what are you pulling in? Like plus 600 per day?? These SIU rates are garbage I’m telling you. I’m a new AB about to take my first AB ship. I did the SIU program like you, but the rates are not where they should be for all the qualifications that we need. I just saw a car carrier, Liberty Promise, is paying a 17 dollar overtime rate for the AB. Like what?!?
