- Launched in 2018, the Honda CB1000R represents the pinnacle of the Honda naked bike range, and for 2021 the bike has been given an updated Euro5 mill and a new look.
We’ve just put our first 100 miles on the Honda CB1000R Black Edition - here’s what we have learnt so far.

I do think those might be the most stunning OEM wheels available on any bike right now.
As with most Honda motorcycles, it is understated. Love it.

@@visordown I’m at loggerheads any news when you’ll get your hands on the new Ducati Monster. I think it’s between these two bikes I’ve got my heart set on.
Lovely sounding bike and they even made that enormous end can look ok.

The all black treatment on the exhaust certainly helps to hide the EURO-5 required “four slice toaster” hanging under the bike 😉.
I have the 2019 Model. The stock suspension is very soft as stock. Once properly adjusted to stiffer settings, the bike is way better.
My KTM SDR was the same.
What number did you adjust the stock to?

Wow, you even have a Visor Down Kit, talk about solid marketing! Love the Black Edition, hope it comes out soon State Side, no one seems to have it yet.
I read somewhere that the US release is in May, waiting anxiously for it as well!
I REALLY like this bike, I saw a picture of a retro colorway that popped. That Black Ed. is pretty cool though and how bout those wheels?!?

I own this bike 2019 and to be honest I'm absolutrly in love with it. But the mt-09 kinda does it for me in 2021 🤷♂️ never thought I would say that

The fit and finish on the MT-09 is vastly inferior to the Honda. It's way down on power too.
Good review thanks. Where I live the 2021 bike will not be available till after Christmas. Can get the older black standard today. Worth waiting?

I prefer retro bikes but I like modern things like LED lights or quickshifter. Honda did great with the mixture of both in cb1000r. Waiting for mine black edition in May.
But still can't understand why there is no heated grips in black edition

2018 model owner here... a question regarding the updated headlamp - is it still as bad as the previous round one? Inside sections look pretty much identical to me...
Do you think the black edition will be around for a few years? (2022 and maybe further) I love this bike but I just bought a 2020 650R.
Are you doing a further update video of this bike as mentioned?
How do you lock it up with a nice chunky chain?
I have the plus version ( 2019) and the biggest issues for me are vibes at 70mph and rear shock. Both of which you can do something about aftermarket but I'd argue you shouldn't need to at this price point. If I were Honda, get these right then tinker with the wheels and "black" edition. Be interested to know if these are sorted.
Couldn't agree with you more. The rear shock should have been sorted. No excuses Honda.
I like the blacked-out look but I wish the tank was a bright contrast colour, say bright yellow. It would be the inline four I'd buy. This or the GSX-S.

I test rode the old CB1000R model back in like 2009. Absolutely loved it. Always wanted one but had just purchased a street triple in 2008. They stopped bringing them to my country in 2011 so missed out. Was waiting and hoping one day they'd bring out a new model and they did. I thought that was awesome but now after the revision and black edition it's even better again. One problem, I think the Suzuki GSXS may be a better bike despite it looking like it was designed to compete with the 2009 Honda CB100R. Either way I think I'd be fairly happy with either decision. Imagine cleaning the new honda wheel though. You'd be there for 3 hours. The new MT09 and new Speed Triple have me interested as well.

I wouldn’t be using a cable lock on that it’ll be gone in seconds the spokes don’t look that narrow surely you can get a 16mm chain through there.
It is a real fiddle, and the risk then is not using enough security because of the hassle!
In the final review video can you show us how good/bad the headlight performance is?

On your dash the Trip A distance driven is almost the hp of the bike.
It needs a decent tail tidy and that crap for a licences plate holder taken off the end.
Night ride? Headlight throw.
I'm a Honda fan boy but still see nothing to persuade me away from my gsxs. It looks the mutts all blacked up though.. The studs are chewed up on the bar clamps, who murdered them?
I think it is gunk from when it was cleaned pre-delivery. they are defo not chewed up
gsxs have the same problem as the previous cb1000r; they look like wasps/hornets. The detached headlight assembly just doesn't look right in my eye. This new cb1000, especially all black is in a class all its own.

Same here. The standard black model looks nicer with more silver/ aluminium on display. Love the red version too.
Honda have done a lovely job cosmetically on the CB1000R but it was the engine that needed a massive update as it's bland when compared to the KTM, Ducati, Aprilia, Kawasaki and new Triumph supernakeds.
Well there you go: it's not a supernaked. You're comparing different categories.
The CB1000R is not a super naked. This is far cheaper than those machines.

Too much black in my opinion. Everything blends together. This bike has very nice shapes that you can't see now. I like the silver and black version from last year better.
However, there is one thing here that should be black, but it isn't. A display that looks just awful. Firstly, it is illuminated in white, which does not suit the motorcycle at all. And second, it looks like it was created in 2 minutes in a free GUI design tool.
