  • After removing the catalytic converter, The Street Twin still suffered from a low speed flat spot. In this episode I fit the Booster Plug to see if it sorts out this issue. I show you how to install the booster plug and we take the bike for a ride to see how it performs.

I usually do it weekly, but if i leave it longer than a week the jerkiness definately increases. Let me know how you get on! Id be interested to hear. I recently read that the ecu can learn its being fooled by the boosetr plug and so you need to disconect the battery to reset the ecu and fool it all over again. Fitted a booster plug to my 2018 triumph Bonneville t100 and it help to smooth out the jerkiness.( about 30%) clutching off at junctions and mini roundabouts great bit of kit in my opinion and cheap as you don't have to visit your local triumph franchise to get ripped off for fitting charges... mpg is normally around 76-79 but the best is 83mpg riding at car speed. did not notice any top end speed improvement. keep up the good work Toni

    Great review, I went ahead and ordered one for my 2018 Street Twin. I have a decat pipe, V&H mufflers, and a different air filter, so this should get the fuel/air mixture where it needs to be at low rpms. Making it smoother throughout the entire rpm range is a bonus as well. Looks fairly quick and simple to install. I removed the snorkel from my airbox, so I'll just place the sensor inside the hole in the side of the airbox.

    • @ToniReviews
      @ToniReviews  ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi bronzestarvue. So glad you found this helpful. You sound like you have the same setup as myself , although my mufflers are tec. I would say I noticed the change immediately but after a little while the low rpm chug came back. It’s almost like it needs to be reset by disconnecting the battery each time. It’s like the ecu learns it’s being fooled. Let me know what you think and what you find! Thanks for sharing

    • @bronzestarvue
      @bronzestarvue ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@ToniReviews Will do, I like the simplicity of it being plug and play, pretty much anyone can do it without special tools. I had a shop install the decat pipe, and based on what I read on some FB groups and forums, asked them to run the bike until the cooling fan came on to allow the ECU to "learn". It seems to have worked, because the bike doesn't feel like it's running poorly with the combination of decat and mufflers. I'm hoping this booster plug will put the finishing touches on helping the ECU make the bike run like it's supposed to, not like how it came from the factory to meet emissions standards. Keep up the good work!

    Excellent review. I ride a 2021 Speedmaster and a 2022 RE Interceptor. I just ordered one of these for each of them to see if it will help with the lag. On the speedmaster I have installed an x-pipe and slip-on's from British Customs along with DNA filters so I'm hopping to notice the flat spot lessening or disappearing. On the interceptor I have and S&S 2-1 exhaust and a DNA filter. I'm not looking for much on it, just a bit more throttle response off the line and out of corners.

      Hi Karl, no i havent yet done a follow up video. manily because my findings will be subjective and not very scientific. It will be difficult for me to see if fuel consumption changes, especially with the fluctuating and increasing fuel prices. Just bought a used T120, 2016 model with 3k miles. It has K and N, Vance and Hines pipe, decat and booster plug. I test rode 2 brand new T120 and this, without doubt, rides better than they did. TBH I nearly didn't buy one as the dealer test rides were quite disappointing. I've had many Aprilia V twins in the past and know what jerky throttle response is like, but the T120 is so smooth. As for MPG, I did a 160 mile ride yesterday on a variety of roads and it returned 69.7mpg average. Insane, that's over twice what I used to get out my other bikes. Maybe I'll unplug the booster and see what it's like without.

    Thanks Toni. Nice, honest review. I like the plug-and-play nature of that little unit. I suspect some of the newer bikes might not be able to use this sadly. I hear the EU is really cracking down on things.
    Side note: While I dig an exhaust that gives some pops every now and again on decel, if it happens too much and is driving you crazy, here is a possible semi-fix. Sometimes the popping is an indication that there is a little bit of cool air sneaking into your exhaust system from one of the connection joints. A little bit of black soot on a joint can be an indication of where air might be sneaking in. When the bike is cool, just check all the connections and hand tighten everything down again (don't strong arm it). Sometimes things vibrate a little loose after the first install. It's not a cure all, but if there is a little pin leak, it should calm things down a little.

    I've just ordered one of these for a BMW K1300R. Regarding the "BoosterPlug goes idle when cruising" statement, this is my one beef with their marketing because what they *really* mean is that the bike goes into closed loop mode and the fuel mixture is controlled by the O2 sensor; that being it will try to hit a specific fuel mixture (14.7:1) regardless of air temperature readings. The difference when having the BoosterPlug would just be that the O2 closed loop fuel mixture control pulls out more fuel than it would if there was no BoosterPlug in use.

    NZ

    • @ToniReviews
      @ToniReviews  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hi John . The reason these new bikes suffer with flat spots etc is because they are running lean to meet new emission standards. Currently from what I understand 2021 Euro 5 Triumph models CAN NOT fit any form of tuner, including BoosterPlug & Power Commander. This is due to the ECU having anti-tamper software. Doing so will cause the MIL light to come on.
      There may be an advancement in time for overriding this issue but at the moment it’s fitted with anti tamper software.
      The Booster plug company make plugs for all types of bikes and models. Check out the booster plug website to see if they make a plug for your particular model or are looking to make one for the future , but at present there doesn’t seem to be this option for the newer models. • @andrewbecker3700
    @andrewbecker3700 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    It's only capable of very small changes to the off idle transition, but obviously it's not remapping the ECU. The newer bikes have a better factory tune, and benefit even less from this somewhat expensive gimmick. It tricks the ECU into slightly richening an already rich fuel curve which just loads the engine up even more, thus the perception that it's running smoother, when really it's just a less sputtering feel at lower rpms, which clears out when the rpms are a bit higher.

    • @ToniReviews
      @ToniReviews  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      It is tricking the bike , but by tricking it, it is a smoother ride at lower rpms which can be a little annoying. The ecu are mapped to deliver a fuel economy so emission standards are met, resulting in a somewhat lumpy throttle response. Having used it for a short while I must say it’s nice having the smoother pull away or knowing a turn in the road isn’t necessarily going to get a LUL halfway through. I’d be interested to see how the newer models perform and if they suffer with any kind of issue related to low rpm flat spots and snatching?
