Triumph Bonneville T120, Street Twin, Speed Twin, Thruxton. PROF. AXELROD meets The FRANKENBOBBIN!

  • Motone Customs have now released Prof. Axelrod the easy cost effective solution to the lack of centre stand on certain Triumph Twins. A paddock stand assembly that fits in minutes to allow chain and wheel maintenance. PLEASE NOTE. For T100 and T120 there will not be enough clearance to fit these bobbins if you still have the OEM silencers fitted due to the silly way Triumph integrated them over the axle.

how about those occasions when you need to get the wheel off

  • @brianperry
    @brianperry 2 ปีที่แล้ว +10

I'm curious to know how easy is it to adjust the chain/realign wheel when the bobbins are bolted onto the very items that need to be loosened and adjusted..Seems to me that a paddock stand that lifts under the swinging arm would be a better solution. I used just such a system to lift my Honda 650, it worked perfectly well although the bobbin system is superior. Lastly Stu do you/have you ever tried a front wheel chock. Great if you have a couple, or more bikes in a restricted space. Just push into chock, no need for side stand and of course bike is held upright. I use one to hold my Triumph upright in my 'Bike Barn'..

I had the same thought. Presumably the bobbins have to be slackened off during chain adjustment? 🤔

@@robertkemp9023 Thats the way I see it...I personally don't thing this a good idea. easier to lift the swinging arm...

Presumably if they only take 2 minutes to fit then they take 2 minutes to remove

Hi Stuart. I’m thinking along the same lines as Brian. The items are very good looking and seem to be very well made but with the right bobbin hard up against the axel nut it’s difficult to see the practicality of these for the purpose of chain adjustment or wheel removal. With the threaded rod so neat a fit through the axel I’m sure the right bobbin could be made slightly differently to allow the wheel nut to be loosened for chain adjustment. It goes against my grain to take my bike to a service agent for repairs but it would seem this system leaves little option but to do just that. I own a number of older Kawasaki’s. Fortunately all have threaded lugs welded to the swing arms so bobbins don’t interfere with the back wheel. A much better idea. If they didn’t I would weld some on but I guess not everyone has that capability. Maybe this is another way manufacturers are trying to get you back in their agents shops. Who knows?

Thanks for this Stu 👍. People keep saying to me "you need a centre stand" for my T100. I don't want a centre stand. It's weighty and cumbersome on the Bonnevilles. This looks like the perfect solution to me👌 Ta very much. I'll take the silver one please 👍

Another great video thanks Stuart! I have a 2021 T120 I got Sept 2021, my first bike so obviously quite new to the biking world, you have helped me so much with your videos and advice, thanks! Sorry if this is a stupid question but, am I right that I cannot use Bobbins or a paddock stand with the factory fitted pipes on the Bonnie? I would have to replace the end pipes with a shorter option? Thanks. Griff

Stuart my Thruxton 900 (2004) axel has nuts on either end (obviously) is there something hiding the hollow tube for the bobbins that are connected with a threaded rod ? or is my bike one of those that has a solid axel and wont take the bobbins, there are no brackets lower down for any either. Many thanks. Mark.

A centre stand should not be an optional extra on a road bike,it doesn’t save weight or affect ground clearance if you touch it down you’ve fallen off ,total penny pinching when you consider the price of a new triumph motorcycle quite simply if it doesn’t come fitted with one free of charge I won’t be buying one.

Curious: My previous (now trashed) Vespa GTS300 Super came with only a center stand here in the States, while everywhere else they came with both center and side stands. I've long been told I'd *never* want to use the side stand even if I had it to use on account of its tendency to easily tip over. At any rate, my new one is coming with both. I'll have crash bars on the thing as well, just in case. ;-)
    And: cool "ghost" bobber!

Morning. Another good product. I personally will not buy a road bike with no main stand. Only my personal preference of course. I get a little annoyed with manufacturers. Here's the vehicle you need to sell a kidney to buy. Remortgage the house as they will supply all the other parts you need. Not everyone's cup of T the Interceptors, but value. Take some beating IMO only.

I recently took delivery of a new T120. I opted for the centre stand, but had to wait for it as they’re on back order. It’s on there now and works well. It should be standard. I wonder how much the omitted stand contributes to the claimed weight saving over the previous models, which had them as standard.

  • @andrewbecker3700

The Speed Twins do have bobbin provisions, but most cheap paddock stands won't work with the Triumph bobbins. I made it work with just the bolts and spacers, but none of the other hardware for the stand or the actual poly bobbins can be utilized.

I had a similar item on my Street Twin. Much better than nothing at all when it comes to chain maintenance but it means you’re forced to use an open ended spanned or adjustable wrench on the axle nut. And you need to take the bobbins off to use a torque wrench, unless I’m missing something.
