As far as the accident goes - Scott has said that he is fine with people reacting to it for the same reason that he decided to post the video. It highlights that accidents do happen as well as giving recognition to those that helped save his life. it also shows how important quick thinking and action is in an emergency. Even if you don't react online, the video is worth watching. Also his friends all made videos to post on his channel and sold merch to help pay his medical expenses.
Scared the crap out of me, as I hate the thought we could have lost him. I do wonder, as hot as that round was, if the weight was noticeably suspect. The gun maker did make improvements as a result (cap threading, etc.), but still....
@@busterdee8228 Scott did a followup video using a Barret 50. The round wasn't a factory round, and was improperly reloaded. He blew up the Barret too. Scott makes fun of the incident in the short film Tiny Guns 3 (World War 2 inches)
Pretty sure the blur on the AK was due to the magazine capacity. TH-cam has rules newer than this video that retroactively will give strikes on gun channels.
If you like Kentucky Ballistics, Garand Thumb, Fat Electrician, Administrative Results, Demolition Ranch, Brandon Herera and Eli double Tap, review the video Tiny Guns 3
Now then dude, love a bit of Kentucky Ballistics, for some side splitting hilarity have a look at the Kentucky Roulette vids you won't be disappointed. Thanks for the vids bud 🤠👍
Scott is an amazing human. His accident was tragic and the response from the Gun tube community was amazing. His videos are all great the ones with the Slow Mo guys are amazing.
The 50 cal accident video is a must see. Its not just morbid voyeurism, its a powerfully human story of survival, physics, bad luck, medical science and miracles.
Related to your ship story and tracers, in the US military, the fiscal year ends on 31 September each year. If you have ammunition left in inventory when the fiscal year ends, you may not get as much in allocation for the next year. So we would go out to the range and burn it all. At night we would load up 30 rounds of tracer in our rifles, just for fun. When the range control officer commanded fire, it was 30 round of tracer fired in automatic across 40 lanes flying downrange. It was so cool to see that and even on dirt, the tracers would bounce up into the air. We'd also have to do that with artillery rounds. So there was a lot of battery fire for effect/repeat so 18 artillery rounds impacting over and over plus illumination rounds floating down all night long. They would have us call for fire so the fire direction center would get practice also. The military was not always fun, but when it was, it was great.
the bmg .50's ability to deliver this amount of raw kinetic (and thermal) energy onto such a small point and at a comfortable range is legitimately a thing of beauty... like, horrific nightmare-inducing beauty but thats half the allure i think. the amount of creative energy we funnel towards killing eachother over imaginary lines in the dirt is just... just aw-inspiring lol
Seeing Scott in this video compared to where and who he is now is a night and day difference. What a legend and with the very .50 that would change his life perspective FOREVER
it is well worth reacting to the 50 cal exploded, he released the video for a good reason. it is 100% educational and a remimder to all about being safe. god hes sooooo tiny in this video. hes like a little boy. and his guns are so tiny too. love his elephant guns, massive fan of the 416 rigby.
This guy has a lot of great videos. His story about his accident is amazing. He mad like 2-3 check up videos about it as well. This guy got incredibly lucky.
5.56 was meant to kill. That's a myth from vietnam. Where it comes from is that wounding a soldier takes a medic, 2 litter bearers, a doctor, nurses and others to look over them. The more casualties the more combat ineffective the enemy is. The reality is it was designed to do massive damage internally through tumbling and yawing. The bullet was 55 grains fired out of a 1-12 twist barrel and was inherently unstable. When it would hit it wouldn't go straight and that caused massive damage. Tumbling yawing etc actually increases lethality by increasing the amount of tissue destruction. It's the same with hollow points - the goal is to dump as much of the energy into the body as possible.
Back in the day anvil launching was a thing. Gunpowder in a hole in the ground. Anvil on top. They would go 50 feet up . Quite the frontier spectacular.
556x45 was designed to be a varmint cartridge. Racoons armadillos opossum coyote etc. they're just moving so fast. Obviously AP has the steel/tungsten core. It's only a 22cal though. My bud had a 6mm rem mag. Its basically a magnum cartridge similar to 7mm rem mag, or 300win mag but smaller. They're 22 cal, i shot it outside a tree house window at some targets no ear pro. The barrel wasn't completely past the window frame. No bueno.
It has more to do with what the anvil is made of, rather than when it was made. There's a HUGE difference between forged, and, cast metals. I'm not sure about military, but, I know he has a law enforcement background.
This is the gun that exploded and nearly killed Scott. The source of just put a thumb in it. Crazy to see him shoulder firing this gun, now days he uses a sled for iffy arms.
hes much less energetic back then. you can even see it in the intro with the My name is Scott and Welcome to Kentucky ballistics. he adds sound effects and stuff now
In the middle east you had to be careful about shooting around straight walls. The rounds would skip just like the water. If you shoot a frozen lake the round stops, but continues to spin. Sounds like a little turbo ,or jet turbine.
That's the same rifle that detonated on him. Serbu makes it. Good rifle but when the wrong powder is loaded into a round there ain't nothing saving you except some divine intervention. Sabot rounds can go through around 3-4 inches of hardened steel. There is a reason it was developed as an anti tank machine gun in WW1 and post war.
Scott is a good dude. Ive met him. Hes a seriously good man. Glad hes still with us. You definitely need to watch Scotts video of him almoat unaliving himself. Its fucking insane
RE: comment around 12:30 Cheap anvil metal isn't much of a challenge. All armoured vehicles have more armour than this because this is not even remotely close to what hardened steel, much less actual armour is capable of. 12.7x108mm AP get around 20mm of pen Vs RHA.
You should react to kentuckys 50 cal exploding, the accident you referred to. Also since you're into medieval stuff, AdministrativeResults has a few vids on Longbows you might like.
Omg this is an old video. 5.56 is meant to kill not wound. lol. It’s meant to hit and dump it’s energy while tumbling though your body creating a lot of damage. That’s why we used 5.56 in the military.
Seems kinda strange to pick a 6 year old video. But wow, young Scott looks "small" lol. He has done videos with Theslowmoguys with guns that make the 50bmg look like a 22lr.
"if the rest of the videos are just as good as that go check him out". My god man, you have no idea, pick a random recent one and either react to it or just watch it on your own time.
Yup, he's got some awesome weapons but we can get them here. Maybe you should consider moving back, you'd have plenty of people willing to go shooting with you.
You know this is the guy that nearly blew his head of when he used a faulty round that blew up in the gun and basically blew a hole in his neck ended up in hospital right ? Its on you tube i think
Scott was a Kentucky State Trooper. He's very safe in his videos. This is a real old one. He's super funny also 😆

That was a good couple of months in the guntuber community
When Scott tests sketchy ammo and weapons, his neck reminds him of the last time he tested sketchy ammo.

Scott does a video where he shoots things with a 20mm Solothurn anti-tank rifle.
4 Bore vs body armor is a good video!

I recmend watching hos "kentucky roulette" videos their a hoot
Crazy seeing these older vids where Scott hasn't yet had that rifle explode. I believe he was in law enforcement like State Trooper or something 👍
He's retired Kentucky state police. His father Scott Sr. Is also retired LEO.
its fun to see how much more comfortable he has becomes in front of the camera

the brand is Central Forge, which is a cheap chinese product sold at Harbor Freight.
You can see that the grain structure is very coarse. Not a high quality casting.
Scott is hilarious
I asked if he ever catches perps by making them laugh. I can't recall if he replied or just gave the comment a like, but it seems to be the case.
That’s the same style gun that he had his accident with on his channel
exactly the same gun, probably the actual gun

Its the hardness of the projectile that determines penetration depth, either tungsten or steel cores in the round

I'm sure Scott's accident rests in the back of his mind every time he visits the range
In one of his videos (I think his .950 JDJ one) he confirmed this.
Back in the day anvil launching was a thing. Gunpowder in a hole in the ground. Anvil on top. They would go 50 feet up . Quite the frontier spectacular.
saw something about it on discovery channel some years ago , it was a competetion , judged on height and how straight they were launched 😄

Scott was in the Kentucky State Patrol if I remember.
Scott was skinny back then.
Armor piercing 7.62x39 is restricted in the US. It falls under an armor piercing pistol ammo ban because an AK pistol variant existed.
after the anvil he tried SLAP(saboted(plastic) light armor pen) tungsten rounds and the .50bmg rifle exploded and nearly ended his career and his life
FN SCAR 17S costs around $3850 USD

Big difference between cast iron and steel plate.
100%. Even still that much damage with a armour piercing is super impressive.
@OriginalHuman yes. Going thru a piece of plate armor in an aircraft is what the M2 and round were made for; in WWII.
