What will make or break this movie will be the script. It boils down to can you set up the universe again and still grip new fans while not alienating old ones. Do NOT CHANCE THE MYTHOLOGY. Widen set it up perfectly and Davis/Panzer did a fantastic job expanding on it.
I'm glad to see the overall positive reaction. Cavill is underrated as an actor, and I thought he was great in Fallout as well. He's great with intense yet subtle facial expressions, which is perfect for Highlander.
Cavill's sword fighting skills on The Witcher make him a great choice, and Chad Stahelski's direction could equal a fantastic movie, as long as there is more practical fight scenes than CGI.
On a side note I have just ordered Jonathan's book...... It's been in my Amazon basket for a while and I kept forgetting about it until I watched this.
So many possibilities, so many options. For Ramires i would love Antonio Banderas or Viggo Mortensen As for the Kurgan the doors are open, people are talking about Dave Bautista, Jason Momoa, and Dwayne Johnson. It could be cool if they subverted expectations with the Kurgan, maybe Keanu Reeves or Nicolau Costner Waldau. I just love the enthusiasm, people have for this project. My main question is just, who could make a soundtrack as cool as queen did?
The key to this is reboot not remake. Remakes fill me with thoughts of RoboCop and Total Recall. Reboots I think the Dark Knight trilogy...... Henry is a solid guy and he probably shouldn't look ripped for scenes in the past but for a modern guy to have muscles is less of a issue. He would have to stay in shape to get to the gathering. The Kurgan can as you say be more like the Kinght from the original screenplay not the bunker nut version from the film. On his age let's just make this one good then we can think about sequels.....

They are essentially the same films. A reboot is oftentimes a reimagining. Rather than being closely bound to the original, they tend to make more serious changes to the stories, characters, etc. A reboot usually also implies that they are restarting a franchise, rather than just remaking a single movie. Example being Star Trek from 2009.

Hi first time viewer here. Highlander has an will always be my all time favorite film. I also loved the series. The problem with this franchise is it doesn't have a single voice to champion its true vision, kind of like a George Lucas or a Peter Jackson. So whoever manages to get their hands on it wants to try out all their own funky stuff because all they see are sword fights and beheadings.. I like Henry Cavill because he's a fan. I mean the guy is a gamer, he reads a ton of fantasy books, I think he gets it. So with that being said, whatever form this movie takes on, I have the hope that Cavill will keep it on track. LOL Don't get me wrong I loved Sean Connery, but it was always weird they cast the world's most famous Scotsman in the role of an Egyption who carries a Spanish name. There's plenty of fine actors out there, but to find one who comes off as enlightened and wise, but also tough. It'll be a challenge. Clancy Brown recently talked a lot about his experiences with Highlander when he was on Michael Rosenbaum's podcast Inside of you.. LOL He says he didn't get get paid! Who could take that role? Sure he was a big and imposing guy against tiny little Connor Macleod. So now we got Connor "Brick Sh!thouse" Macleod, so maybe a shift from big and crazy to a mastermind of some kind. And obviously if they want to keep the series going, it can't be the gathering. I remember in Endgame, they retconned Macleod and Kurgan being the gathering. I don't know, but great talk guys! Regardless of who he (Cavill) plays, I hope we see the ‘original’ Kurgan (the cold blooded, rather meek looking chap) rather than the comic-book character that Davis/Panzer turned the character into - not that there was anything wrong with Clancy’s performance, he was fantastic as the Kurgan. And Jonathan, your book is amazing - 70 pages left and I absolutely love it!
Agreed. I had some people argue with me when I suggested Mads Mikkelsen for Kurgan. "No way! It should be the Mountain from Game of Thrones!" I guess it speaks to the quality of Clancy's performance (and some clever camera angles) that people think of the Kurgan as a giant when Clancy was only 6'3. There are plenty of tall guys on steroids. Most of them wouldn't be convincing as ancient, Viking-esque warriors. That's what made the character intimidating. He's the kind of guy who would literally slaughter your family in front of you and then sleep like a baby.
*Not sure the original HIghlander needs a reboot.* But if they did, Cavill would be fine. And Liam Neeson should be Ramirez. or Adrian Paul. LOL. Maybe Paul can play Ramirez; and Neeson plays Angus.
Hear me out:What if Henry Cavill plays Connor Macleod who ends up finding DUNCAN FUCKING MACLEOD and the reboot is just a movie with the two building their relationship until Connor gets killed by the Kurgan I know it sounds crazy but it would be a nice interesting approach if you ask me. Cavill can drop the muscle mass considering man was slim before he got cast as Superman There is also that potential that he might be The Kurgan given that when the news broke out that nothing was mentioned about who he plays. Why does everyone seem to want just the one movie? Fighting the Kurgan for the prize was the biggest mistake made the first time around. The Kurgan is the final boss people! Unless you really want it to be Jacob Kell and that would be sad.
One part of the Highlander mythology I would change is the idea that all the immortals are "orphans" of unknown origin instead of the children of the parents who raise them. The mythology has been changed before. The original Highlander movie clearly said that all immortals were male. The TV series quickly changed THAT idea.

I've never believed any character he has played. It never feels real to me at all. I hope he is better in Highlander.
My main concern is that it's going to be 5% Cavell, 95% CGI

Everybody's assuming that he's going to play Macleod, he could be in talks to play the Kurgan.
He posted about how he'd been getting in touch with his Scottish roots and how that was like prep for the role.
Might be playing Dougal or Angus.....
The bigger question is will the story be stretched out to three films, and will Cavill want to make a trilogy of films?

Cavill at 38 is fine for a trilogy, no more. To be fair, the same is true if you cast a 20-year old. They won't look 20 at 30...
