Agreed, I think it's funny that apparently the people who were formerly in top executive positions at Warner Brothers thought that at 39, Henry Cavill was too old to play Superman, which I thought was utterly ridiculous. He's in great shape and takes good care of himself and as long as he keeps doing that, he could easily play Superman at least until he's close to 50. You've got lots of older actors in action-oriented roles in their 40s, 50s, 60s and even SOME in their 70s! The Rock is 11 years older than Cavill and doing action- roles( like Black Adam), so the idea that Henry Cavill is too old as someone in his forties( I know that he's 39 now but by the time a new Superman movie happens, he'll be in his forties, obviously) to play Superman was never something I ever agreed with at all.

@@shimik11 FACTS BIG FACTS 🤣 I'm sorry about the over excitement. I never like Superman anything until I saw the scene of Cavill walk out of the alien space ship wearing his Superman suit for the 1sr time. Right then on. I loved Superman. This didn’t age well 😫I can tell you now that I won’t watch a Superman film without Henry. To tell him he’s back in and then mere weeks later pull the rug out from under him. That must have made him feel so embarrassed. I love this guy. He’s so genuine, such an absolute super fan of the characters he plays.
He has nothing to be embarrassed about. DC made his role official and he didn't believe it would be otherwise. It's DC who ought to be embarrassed being this indefinitely stupid and crafty.
Well done you. Show Hollywood that it can't abuse people and get away with it. In New Zealand the right-wing government of the day changed employment contract law to appease Warner Brothers during the making of the Lord of the Rings franchise - with Peter Jackson's support. I swore to never see another of his films despite seeing the first two in support of the kiwi director. I haven't and never will again.
James Gunn made clear that he was never hired and there was never a plan to work with him again since Legacy was in the making. The Rock and Dany Garcia are the ones to be blamed here. They knew from the start none of that was going to happen. If Henry believed them, it's time to wise up and fire them all.
Also the fact the only thing he praised about the Witcher 3rd season is action is also telling a lot between the lines. It sounds like - the world's and story adaptation is insulting the Sapkowski's work, but at least you can enjoy the fights. The petitions to hire him back and fire the writers instead has already over 1/4 million signatures. It may not change much, and the showrunner will probably not care - but Netflix might look at it's cracking reputation - thought I have no illusions about them either.

I cannot wait for Henry Cavill’s future as the greatest portrayal of this inspiring character! He deserves it!
I agree that Henry Cavill is SUPERMAN. I'm not a fan of Snyder's vision at all though. Batman v Superman has shown that the vision isn't in line with what I personally like. But I'm all for Cavill. So happy that he's back. So happy that Gunn and Safran are gonna lead DC Studios. Let's hope for a far brighter DC universe.
I am 65 years old I've seen every Superman throughout the years, I can tell you hands down that Henry is the best Superman ever. I was also so surprised his first encounter was Russell Crowe ..Russell was similar straight shooter..purist..spoke of family alot..maybe they felt kindred..
Henry Cavill just embodies every aspect of Superman. The fact that he never gave up hope in wearing the cape again, and was so grateful and humbled by all the love, while still being charming as ever, it's like Clark walked out from the comic panels and entered our world. It's amazing to me we've been robbed of 5 years of his work thanks to executive pettiness. Still better late than never.
He’s a professional and model human being. He fought hard to keep both the Witcher and Superman from being rewritten to fit a modern perverse version other characters have had happen.

Man when I heard him said for the full season 🤣 I get excited like a child because the fight scene in episodes one was so amazing and then get disappointed in the rest of the episodes and even season 2
Out of all people, James Gunn being the one to not see how passionate, dedicated and perfect Henry Cavill is for Superman and now hearing that James cut Henry's cameo in The Flash after letting Gal Gadot and Aquaman have their respective character cameos is unbelievable to me! I feel absolutely sad that we might never see him again in the cape and I can't even imagine the rollercoaster of emotions that Henry must've gone through. Henry will forever be OUR Superman!
Absolutely. What a mistake it is to have the the One Note guy ( Gunn ) in charge of the DC universe. What a mistake to dump Cavill at this point. BIG, big mistake Gunn. You will find out.
Probably the only interview I have ever got to hear him speak…. Usually it’s focused on his looks. He’s intelligent, funny, warm, and talented. It’s a great interview!
Setting aside your ablest comment about "sanity", you seem to be the type who lacks subjectivity and has to attack others who don't agree with you. That's weak.
I feel that from 45:22 Henry might be having the Witcher in mind. He did the right thing quitting the Witcher. The showrunner turned out to be a very incompetent person, making one mistake after another, pushing her own agenda. I don't really understand how comes that Netflix made her a person in charge since she clearly had said she is even not into the fantasy genre? And the writers - shame on you. The only good thing is that Henry's Witcher won hearts of many new fans.
he was talking about Witcher for sure and you can tell how it personally affected him by the tone of his voice and how serious he was saying that. It's clear that working with the witcher crew any further went against his values as an actor and as a fan of the Witcher franchise.
Love Henry, met him once, real gentleman, just like here... From his acting skills, to his dedication, to him being a fellow nerd, to just being a real deal guy. No BS, no "look at me, look at me. Look at what I got" He deserves every bit of fame, success, wealth, and appreciation he's gotten, and more. Happy for him that he's returning as Superman.. and I'll be the first one to see his return. GIVE US MAN OF STEEL 2!!!!!
The news of Cavill back as Superman is absolutely perfect timing. What I absolutely love is not only does he look the part of the character but as a person Cavill is just a good guy plain and simple - he embodies so much of the Superman character in himself. But not only that he loves playing Superman - you can tell it means so much to him. If you've seen the videos of him building his PC, geeking out on Warhammer or talking of his love for The Witcher games he is the literal "King of the Nerds". To know he loves and is honoured playing probably the most iconic superhero of all time is heart-warming for all Nerds like me around the world. Cant wait to see him donning the red and blue again.
Yes its amazing but at what cost??? He is leaving the Witcherverse. I would take Geralt anyday over Superman. Superman can be played by any hunky artsy actor, but only he can play the complex character of Geralt.
@@SAMANTHAPERKINS I don’t think so.. Brandon Routh tried to take the role but audience didn’t respond kindly. I thought there’s specific looks required for Superman. Batman on the other hand seems to be able to be played by any hunky actor

Henry just seems like such a great guy! An incredibly good looking man but so down to earth and genuine. Such a great sense of humor too. Love every single thing he’s in. Can’t wait to see him as Superman again and I hope hope hope he will be the next James Bond!!!
Henry is such a good person and a class act. Definitely has the appropriate personality to carry the Superman character and legacy. As a side note, he avoided commenting on how bad ROP is, you can tell he knows, but you will never catch him talking bad about anything or anyone.
From someone who was there on opening weekend in 1978(though I was only 3) to see Christopher Reeve take flight for the first time, you, Henry, are truly the Superman of this era and are absolutely deserving to wear that suit. In fact, I couldn't imagine anyone else in the part. It is so awesome to see you back!!!
He is the most beautiful man I have ever seen...... seriously most beautiful. Muscular with boyish charm, sexy, elegant, classy, cool, calm, kind, compassionate, sensitive yet strong and dignified....plus extremely educated and sensible.....who knows how to be with people and for his people. He got a great family, a really good value system and loves to explore the world. His beauty and nature constitutes both masculine and feminine features....almost gives the vibe of old paintings that we see on museum or art galleries or even more beautiful than those .....very very rare combination in today's times.
It's great that he recognizes the importance of being the public face of the man who plays Superman and the sort of responsibility that implies being of course the greatest (albeit fictional) superhero of all time and that he respects that. Very down to earth and very much one of us.
@@afiqazman6615 Sadly not the best Clark Kent. I love Henry as an actor and I enjoy his superman, but his clark kent just isn't really good. Not dorky at all. This is something that Christopher Reeves excelled at, both parts. I'm glad Cavill is back, though.
@@Sarnatuile He might have to lean into a modern version of dorky, maybe talk about playing videogames or warhammer or something. If there's one flaw the man has, its just that he can't look uncool. Having Clark Kent be a nerd might be the way to go.
@@Jason-kp4vc The good thing is that, so far, Zack Snyder mostly focused on Superman, while Clark Kent is rarely shown except when with his mother or Lois. So, there's plenty of room to show what he does for fun. I hope they lean into that in Man of Steel 2.

@@ameliacraiig4193 it must be an age thing. Ive not bothered going to the cinema to see a Bond film since Die Another Day. When Bond was good old entertaining, escapist fun. Roger Moore is my Bond, with Pierce Brosnan a close second. The one thing we do not need is another Craig wannabe. It has to have the fun element put back in. Casino Royale was enjoyable enough, but I don't consider him Bond. And a recent list I saw that still had the likes of Idris Elba and Tom Hardy was just embarrassing. Out of the list of successful candidates, Henry Cavill and Aidan Turner are my choices. Yes, I wouldn't mind seeing Henry back as Solo but I doubt Armie Hammer would be back. I remember when I was severely sick and recovering from a fatal disease back in 2013. I used to watch Man of Steel on a daily basis, at least once a day to keep my spirit up. I used to look at Cavil as Superman and think, "Man, I wish I was as strong as him. No disease would affect me." I was fourteen years old back then. A teenager. Time flies.

@@ZXSPEX For me, it's Christopher Reeve and then Henry Cavill. As an aspiring comic book writer and artist, I even came up with an original Superman-like character that I'm basing on Christopher Reeve as Superman and then I had one that I based on Cavill as Superman but then I decided, since he's still Superman it might be a better idea to base the character on a guy who looks like he could BE Superman and I based him on David Corenswet( who back when it was uncertain if Cavill was still going to be Superman, had voiced how much he would love to play Superman but there's always Hyperion in the MCU). So instead, what I did was I just named another original Superman character that I came up with( I LOVE Superman and I created a whole bunch of Superman-like characters for my comic book universe), ''Henry Reeve'' as his real name( after Henry Cavill and the late, great Christopher Reeve) . When you said that there's no emotion in Henry's portrayal, I think that there is and that there can be but that it depends on the script and the director who is doing the film. Cavill just needs the right material as an actor to bring the Superman from the comics that people know and love to life and hopefully, going forward, he'll get that!
@@ZXSPEX Thank you very much for your thoughts! I'll be doing independent comics that are also about original, unique characters and I'll be doing comics that aren't even about Super Heroes, too. Having characters based on pre-existing and established characters can still work and evolve into being very much their own thing. Thanos, Deadpool, the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, The Punisher, Gladiator, Blue Marvel, Hyperion, The Squadron Supreme, Red Tool, Red Lion, Invincible, Omni-Man, Homelander, Green Arrow, Ka-Zar and many, many other characters were all based on other characters and then went on to being their own thing with their own fan base. There are always going to be Superman substitutes/ clones but it's all about the writing and the character development with any character based on pre-existing characters and then they can still work and feel different and interesting.
Well, my first time watching this format. And I went from happy to sad and confused REAL fast. Hearing his excitement and passion about playing Superman, never giving up hope, how much the character means to him, his happiness and relief about more to come. This is crushing! Henry, you were great. Easily one of the best things about the DCEU. Sadly the best actors could not save the train wreck the DCEU had mutated into. I just hope all the executives will get kicked out and replaced, too. They turned a license to print money with amazing films about iconic characters into an abomination without direction. Best of luck for your future endeavors. I hope you will find a work environment that treats you well and appreciates your knowledge and dedication to source material.
Every time Henry was asked about a show he did.. he either talked about the people was working with or the directors.. stunt coordinators.. never himself.. what a great guy…

Glad others enjoyed too
I agree that Henry Cavill is SUPERMAN.
And I am very sad that he is leaving The Witcher I have watched season 1 and 2 at least 15 times and the reason I do watch it is because of Henry. What a talented young man he is, can't wait to see you again in the movies much love from all of us in northern Idaho
Thanks for your continuous love and support ❤❤

He is such a class act. Kind , genuine and not fake. He deserves all the success.
Exactly what I thought - just such a good person.
Not FAKE..FRESH BREATH OF AIR..havent seen this in sooo long ..yay
I was also so surprised his first encounter was Russell Crowe ..Russell was similar straight shooter..purist..spoke of family alot..maybe they felt kindred..
This is heartbreaking after he lost both those roles…
Is it known why he lost them?
He didnt lose them. He gave them away

Yes...Henry is asked so many questions..because people cant believe there is someone in Hollywood who just speaks their mind..I think the last time someone was like this was Marilyn Monroe..you know just a handsome wholesome guy ..but with so much more intelligence than you can imagine..just grounded ..disciplined...but sometimes ..saucy ..good for you Henry...
I still can't believe we lost him in two roles he was perfect in, but that just shows how versatile of an actor he is
Henry Cavill is SUPERMAN! Thanks for this amazing interview 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
To hear Henry got to work fight scenes with Wolfgang again and this time for the ENTIRE new season of the Witcher is so exciting!

The curl just suits him so well, I can’t believe it took this look for us to see him with it in the suit.
He has it occasionally in BvS. Surprisingly it appears in the other movies when he is in civilian clothing. 🤔
Henry Cavill is Superman, period, no sane individual would have a issue with him returning, it’s his role, his suit, his cape, no question about it
Superman should be black !!! racist
Setting aside your ablest comment about "sanity", you seem to be the type who lacks subjectivity and has to attack others who don't agree with you. That's weak.

He is THIS generation of Superman
This is now truly a heartbreaking interview. First confusion now despair.
He's such a good storyteller, I love him talking about he's movies and activities, and he's a smart guy
You could tell when he made that statement he was talking about the witcher, he said it very softly and with great thought. Sad moment for me
he was talking about Witcher for sure and you can tell how it personally affected him by the tone of his voice and how serious he was saying that. It's clear that working with the witcher crew any further went against his values as an actor and as a fan of the Witcher franchise.
Seems to be a modern trend of adaptations that the writers and showrunners really don't care for the source material
There is no witcher without Henry💔
Netflix doesn’t seem to hire based on merit
Cavill is such a great guy. Loved his work since Stardust. He’s my Superman.
Yeah
ohmygod i saw that movie long ago and i didn't realize the other guy was him! 😮 but i def thought he was quite attractive.
Stardust is such a great and lovely movie, should get recommended way more often. It
Love Henry, met him once, real gentleman, just like here...
Lucky you. I'd love to meet him too!
As he said, playing Superman taught him a lot about himself and his responsibilities. So I guess Superman “guided” him to be the way he is
Yes its amazing but at what cost??? He is leaving the Witcherverse. I would take Geralt anyday over Superman. Superman can be played by any hunky artsy actor, but only he can play the complex character of Geralt.
@@SAMANTHAPERKINS I don’t think so.. Brandon Routh tried to take the role but audience didn’t respond kindly. I thought there’s specific looks required for Superman. Batman on the other hand seems to be able to be played by any hunky actor

I'm watching this interview in 2024 and I'm heartbroken about Superman

As Zack Snyder himself said it, he's our superman. Past, present, and future.

@@Sarnatuile He might have to lean into a modern version of dorky, maybe talk about playing videogames or warhammer or something. If there's one flaw the man has, its just that he can't look uncool. Having Clark Kent be a nerd might be the way to go.
@@Jason-kp4vc
The good thing is that, so far, Zack Snyder mostly focused on Superman, while Clark Kent is rarely shown except when with his mother or Lois. So, there's plenty of room to show what he does for fun. I hope they lean into that in Man of Steel 2.
You do the best interviews with Henry. He always seems so relaxed. Thanks for another great one.
Except when Snyder came on, then he seemed to get nervous.

Seriously, just imagine if he gets to be the new James Bond. The poor fella won't have enough hours in the day to do all that! 😂
@@michael.wilson.allons-y Lol. I'm not gonna lie, I wouldn't be mad at that. I loved Daniel; he's *MY* Bond, but now a switch back to the dark-haired, suave 007 would keep me interested. (Either him or Regé-Jean Page). Henry's more than capable of it since Man From UNCLE seemed like a dress rehearsal for the role.😄
But Henry has more than enough on his plate at the moment. I'm looking forward to MoS2 and the forthcoming Superman (with Shazam maybe?) versus Black Adam.

He really is the greatest superman ever. I hope he remains superman for years to come!
@@ZXSPEX not really
I'll be doing independent comics that are also about original, unique characters and
I'll be doing comics that aren't even about Super Heroes, too.
So nice to see Henry Cavill. He is beautiful great interview.
You can see how happy he is to be Supes again. It’s awesome when the actor truly loves their role🙌💯
