      That sort of arhotic Southern accent is dying out. My mom and her siblings (boomers) kinda talk that way, but I don't know anyone younger than them that does. It's kinda refreshing to see someone younger talk like that.

      Why would you want to know that? Not trying to be combative or accuse you of anything personally, but it seems like something that comes close to being a prideful desire. Maybe we are shown, but to know who did would also be to know who didn't and in general I think it opens a whole can of worms philosophically speaking. I think it is an interesting idea though.

    • @SuperZebezian
      @SuperZebezian 9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@Epiousios18 It is a guaranteed fact that at least at the end of time, at the General Judgement, all things will be made manifest. All the good and evil done by everyone throughout all of history will be made known to all, since it belongs to the Divine Judgement and goodness that everyone receives their proper reward and praise for their actions (or punishment and blame), and this can only be done if the good and evil of everyone be made known to all. We can only give thanks to those whose good deeds we know, and because gratitude is a virtue stemming from justice, it belongs to justice that we know who has done good to us and for us.
      Besides, in Heaven we will have no disordered thinking whatsoever, so it does not injure anyone's happiness if some particular person did not pray for them as much as they ought to have in this life (and who can say they pray as much as they should anyway?).
      There is no can of worms. There is no problem. The knowledge of who has done good and evil to us will be a reality all will come to know in the next life with perfect clarity.

    Intellectual curiosity had a lot to do with it for me too. I was lucky, as the Church is doing the worst possible job these days of holding up its intellectual tradition. I hadn't been a Christian at all until discovering the strength of its traditions. Chesterton, Merton, and Conor Cunningham were seminal, but also non-Catholics like John Milbank and David Bentley Hart. "Wait a minute, this all makes damned good sense," I found myself saying to myself out loud some years ago. And it still does!

      I converted a few years ago. There's the Catechism of the Council of Trent from the 1500's, which is good, but unless you have a copy of Thomas Aquinas Summa laying around which it makes many references to, doesn't go into a lot of detail. It was directed more towards the priests and how they should instruct the laity. The modern version, has a lot of quotes from the early fathers and important documents from the Church. It is written to be more understandable by the laity. I'm still working my way through both.

      @MrMjdixon95 9 หลายเดือนก่อน +4

      @@ironleatherwood, respectfully, this seems to dismiss the literally thousands of years of church history. "Just follow Jesus" means a lot of things to a lot of people. Arians thought they were just following Jesus but were heretics. I am interested in the Catholic church because I am currently getting my Masters of Divinity to pursue the pastorate in the Presbyterian Church in America.
      Even in Jesus's day, he respectfully engaged with the "denominations": Pharisees, Sadducees, Essenes, and Zealots. All four were love by Christ but God's church seems to be split constantly. Denominations aren't the ideal, John 17, but they are the outworking of sin.
      Think of the great schism in 1054 between East and West.
      I have been doing a lot of reading on the Lord's Supper, and the Reformed view of mystical presence seems to be the earliest. I am wondering what needs to be believed and not in the catholic church.

      OK... So first things first. Go back to the early church fathers. Right after the Apostles. I'm talking Ignatius of Antioch, Polycarp, Clement of Rome, Tertullian, Justin Martyr, etc. The earliest Christians right after the Apostle John. Read their writings.
      Next, before the New Testament was compiled, the Church functioned off of letters & TRADITION according to Paul. 2 Thessalonians 2:15.
      The Bible wasn't compiled until the late 300's by the Catholic Church. It contained 73 books.
      Fast forward to the 1500's, Martin Luther (the protestant pope lol) was a Catholic Augustinian monk. Actually go dig deep & read about his life. His scrupulosity, fears, & OCD were off the charts. He removed 7 books from the Holy Bible to support HIS belief system. Look at his fruits as the father of protestantism... 40,000 different denominations & nobody interprets the Word the same. Actually study your Bible. Read John 6 over & over & over.
      Then read John 20:21-23.
      Matthew 16:18-19.

      Genesis 3:15

      And this is why I give the stink eye to anyone claiming baptists preach no-works salvation and Catholics are works salvation.
      Do ya not hear yourself when you condemn others with a message that isn’t even biblical?

    Do you want to follow Christ or you want to follow the catholic church the teaches so many things that doesn't agree with Bible, the choice is yours, even satan can come as the angel of light, test all things, salvation is through Christ not through the catholicism

      Oh dear, the usual protestant who gives us a bad reputation. With the church being older than the bible i wonder how one would come to that conclusion. As an Anglican we believe in the catholic church, the communion of saints etc, not the Roman Catholic, putting a small c on it means something completely different.
      Me myself, i'm not convinced self righteousness has ever made anyone more open to a point being made, rather it tends to get the back up a touch.

      oh that's easy, catholic in it's english meaning just means the whole and or universal. given that the creed i was quoting from is pre great schism, the orthodox also believe in the catholic church in the same sense being a statement of accepting all churches (with a couple of exceptions, mormons JW's for instance and a few more for the Orthodox ) as gods church. Catholic with a capital c becomes a noun and not an adjective, so refers traditionally to the Roman Catholic church. @@josephssewagudde8156
