I too am a convert to Catholicism. I entered the church in 2015 (a former pentecostal pastor and missionary). My wife has yet to come into the church. What a blessing from the Lord that both you and your wife entered the church at the same time.

Dr. Harrelson, I was introduced to your channel by your talk with Matt Fradd a few months ago. Actually, I just recently watched the interview again this past week, because I'm beginning to take up pipe smoking. I, too, am a convert to Catholicism; I was confirmed into the Church in 2019. I want to congratulate you and your wife on your conversion. Praise God for the joy and fulfillment you're experiencing as you've come home. I live in the same diocese as you, except I'm on the other side of Lexington. Your story is incredible, and it's such a positive one, especially considering all the mess going on within the Church right now. Your trust in Christ and His Church is inspiring, especially in the very anti-Catholic rural areas of Kentucky. Even a suburbanite such as myself faced some pretty terrible vitriol at the time of my conversion, so I imagine it must be even more difficult for someone in the mountains like yourself. I just want to let you know that there are some of us other "baby Catholics" that hear and truly appreciate your comments here, and we're praying for you. May our Lord continue to bless you and your family!

I'm surprised Americans are hopping around religions so much, or is it just that I read about it so much on Catholic vlogs?
I can understand how someone can discover a higher calling during this life, but changing religions is to my mind, something totally radical.
@@Kitiwake I did not change religions. I've always been a Christian. I converted to Catholicism because I was convinced that it is the fullest expression of the Christian faith. My relationship with Jesus has been deeper and richer, more exciting and heartfelt, than it was when I was still a protestant.
But I think there's a simple explanation for Americans turning to religion, perhaps "hopping around" different religions. The secular culture that we've been raised in is vacuous, meaningless, and ugly. We in the West have turned ourselves into gods, and we worship our appetites. Greater numbers of people are beginning to reject that. There's a sincere yearning for truth, meaning, and beauty, a higher calling as you say. If one religion (and I do consider secularism a religion, albeit a false one) fails to meet that higher calling, then won't a person be inclined to look for something else that does it? I do believe we're seeing a surge, especially among young people, towards Christ and His Church. Perhaps I spend too much time among the Catholic vlogs myself; perhaps things aren't as bright as I think they are. But in a world marked by insanity, any move towards sanity and true religion sounds radical.
I am also a Catholic convert. I was confirmed in 2016. Welcome home, brother. Everything you've said about the happiness and meaning in the Church is so true.

I am a convert from Protestantism to Catholicism a year and a half ago. My wife reverted and my son and his family converted (and sponsored my wife and I!). I entirely agree. We have experienced a full spiritual and intellectual conversion to a Christ centered, beautiful life. My only regret is that it took 60 years for me to discover Christ's Church. Great to see this. I’m a cradle Catholic but I’ve been on a journey back to being a better Catholic for a while. I’m currently an Acolyte for our church which has helped me tremendously to deepen my faith. Congratulations to you and your wife for the confirmation and joining the Catholic Church. My church uses the Septuagint Old Testament in the original greek. As well as the New Testament in original greek

Amazing video sir! I have watched all of your videos since the beginning. I am Protestant (raised SBC), and have had a lot of issues with how the SBC church is ran for the most part. Preaching tradition not scripture, and while remembering tradition is important they preach it as if it’s Gods word. I do believe the Catholic Church does a very good job at clarifying that line between what is tradition and what is biblical. Thank you sir for sharing your journey with us! Going to look into getting some of that coffee now!

Based on my experience for the last three years at the Catholic high school where I teach Latin, I can say that the joy there is palpable. I have said numerous times that I can almost see golden streamers of glory in our hallways.

First I would like to say happy birthday to your daughter! I have been watching your channel for a few weeks, and I am starting to get into pipe smoking. I have been Catholic my whole life, and my wife converted to the Catholic church just before we got married, we belong to the sspv, and we don't follow any of the changes of Vatican ll. I have a good friend who is a priest in the Novos ordo Catholic church, and we have some very good discussions on our faith. And a strong faith in God, is necessary in this world. Of course you feel the same, that's because the Orthodox Church has true Apolstolic succession, the Real Presence and all the Sacrements. Orthodox are simply Catholics in Schism. Orthodoxy is a true church God bless.

I’m a Protestant, Baptist. I really think you had a very different experience with Protestantism than I did. The main difference and problem I have with the Catholic Church is that the worship system sort of worships itself and elevates itself to the status of almost being equal with God. Throughout church history, when various councils and such get together and decree something, all the sudden it’s basically the Word of God. I have questions about the validity of that. I definitely recognize Gods ordination of the church, but that doesn’t mean everything the church does is alright with God. The Catholic Church has done many horrible things throughout history, helping the Nazis for one thing. As a Protestant I take my authority from God, and God did not tell Christians they need to go to another man to be heard by God. Please understand me Mr. Harrelson, I’m not stating these things to offend you or anyone else. These are just questions I have for Catholics that I’d appreciate an answer on.

When you mentioned the quote about protestantism in Catholic trappings, are you referring to traditional Catholics that don't accept the changes after Vatican 2?

I don’t understand why the mass was changed.
Here are a few of my concerns:
TLM: Confiteor is said 3 times
Novus Ordo: Shortened version of the confiteor is said only once if at all since it has been made optional
TLM: the priest has to keep his thumbs and index fingers together after the consecration until water runs over them
NO: This is no longer required
TLM: A gold paten is always used to ensure that the Eucharist doesn’t fall on the floor
NO: this is no longer required
TLM: Much of the canon is said in secret showing that this is an important moment between God and the priest where a sacrifice is about to be made
NO: Virtually the entire canon is said out loud
TLM: at the consecration the priest genuflects and then elevates the host
NO: The priest elevates the host and then genuflects.
