Yep - speaking for myself, cradle Catholic, Catholic school, lovely, Catholic parents….. my understanding of the mass has only really just begun! God bless you ❤️🙏
As a young Vietnamese man of twenty, having been raised and educated within the theological framework established by the Second Vatican Council, I have subsequently cultivated a profound reverence for the Tridentine Mass. Remember, the Holy Spirit often guides us in subtle ways.
This actually goes to show that the children can have a better understanding of things than learned people. It doesn’t have to be super complicated, people. It’s often extremely simple.
😂 what? No. They are just regurgitating what was taught to them. We're seeing this exact same thing on the left with all that gender crap. Children are just little mimics around that age.
I went to Mass this morning in my small country parish, the priest had exposed Our Lord in the Monstrance on the altar - as I arrived in the small vestibule (maybe 10' by 8') three "ministers" two of handing out the newsletter and one of reader" were having a loud conversation ( the door into the church was wide open) - maybe 10 people inside, I went in and closed the door behind me. Within a few minutes two people starting talking in their pew and a lady crossed over the aisle to stand with her back to Our Lord hands leaning on the pew in front of her and starting chatting to another two ladies in their pew. I am convinced that each parish is in dire need of basic Catholic teaching on the Eucharist. Reverence and awe are just not present.
A lot of people go into the house of the lord to feel a sense of community. I used to turn and walk to the back of the church at the Eucharist of all moments because I was trying to not get in the way of other parishioners … one Sunday I got up to do this and He just simply and gently told me to keep facing forward. I think someone in my church prayed for me. For a bit of context I belong to an Anglo Catholic Church (St Bartholomew’s in Brighton UK) and we have a wonderful liturgy using the Roman missal (translated of course) every mass is a blessing (of course)… we even have people from local RC churches attend our services during Holy Week because they are so much more reverent than their own… I had no idea that not every catholic believes in transubstantiation- that’s kind of a key feature of Christianity… I’ve been to some RC masses (I don’t take communion) and they’re nice but they’re not particularly reverent, in my experience anyway.
Those things are painful to read. These folks should gather together to do community together after Mass! Have donuts and coffee in the hall, go out for breakfast together…but to do that inside church during a holy time is not the place to do community with each other, but to worship the Lord together!!

I think Ireland and Latin America both got hit super hard by a movement to separate the most devout Catholic populations in the world from the true Church. Lovely people like you who are truly seeking Christ in order to live as you are meant to. Especially with your mother's love for your children, you want to give them the armor and weapons to be followers of Christ. People will tell you what to do. We get VERY excited about people coming back to the family with a real understanding of the gifts and grace and strength that are given to us in the sacraments. I hope you do find your way back to the Church. I know you must have felt a lack of connection with Christ in the Mass as you were growing up. It's our fault. We don't teach people anything about what is happening. It's a real attraction to the connection and enthusiasm you can find in many protestant congregations. I understand how that would draw you in, and God bless you for seeking a relationship with Him. I would say you cannot have a closer relationship with Him than to be in His presence literally at the Mass.Bring your enthusiasm for the Gospel and for a joyful prayer life and infuse it with the truth of the Sacraments. Benediciones a tu familia. Nuestra Senora os ama como una Madre ama a su hija.
This was Awsome. I love how welcoming and enthusiastic Michael is regardless of your level and understanding. You can tell he genuinely loves God and being Catholic.
Excellent! Thanks again “Mass of the Ages “for bringing an understanding to the timeless and most valuable gift of the Latin Mass! Mr. Knowles you knocked it out the park! You were “Top Notch “ as usual!
I believe desacralization diminishes an inclination toward holiness. Sacredness inspires holiness. Also, true Catholic music is Sacred. It is set aside. Excellent conversation! But please, let's restore the sacred.
In another comment, I had just mentioned that my neighborhood parish just recently brought in a guitar and drum set for mass. "The 1970s and 80s just called. And they want their terrible post-vatican II ideas back"
I still do not understand why Protestant theologians were given such power at a Pastoral Council that was, essentially, supposed to enhance the relationship between Pastors and their Parishes!!! How did Protestantism ever become the official determinant of that? Like a troubled couple seeking marriage counseling from an atheist: not a wise plan.
@@carolnearson7932 unfortunately, due to some family logistical complications, we are not able to see if their Sunday morning masses are the same at that parish. I know what you mean though. The last parish from our old town, had a much much different liturgy, depending on which priest was celebrating it, at which time The only other option, is the student parish in my Town's University. Their 'charismatic' Catholics. They literally seeing every single prayer. Everyone. Confiror. The Creed (Nicean and Apostle). Kirie eleison. Even the Our Father. However, they are pretty passionate, and boy do they put their heart out when they 'sing prayer'. They way Michael handles the little kids of varying education levels was nice to see. The kids were paying attention and he was explaining it reasonably well so they could understand it. Maybe he should be a teacher.
My parish has been so blessed to have priests that have brought back more and more reverence to our parish Mass. We use altar rails, aim to sing reverent music, and often the mass is celebrated Ad Orientum. Still “Novus Ordo”, but with much more devotion and reverence. It is possible
Dr. Mike Foley was absolutely brilliant. He brought so much insight and ideas I have never thought about. That conversation actually made me realize how little I know about my own faith. Thank you for the video!
Yes, Mike Foley is the real deal. I know him personally from my time as a student at Baylor. He introduced me to the TLM, and I've been grateful to him ever since!
thank you thank you. We have TLM every Sunday in our parish. It is the MOST attended Mass of the entire weekend. Sadly, the Bishop has restricted TLM for sacraments, HolyDays and even funerals. Only our parish can have weekly TLM, no other Parish in our Diocese so familys drive for up to two hours to come here. I pray the restrictions get removed and then the Churches will grow all over the place. Please Holy Spirit open the eyes of this Pope.
I'm a cradle Catholic, born in the early '70s when the church was still trying to find its footing and often overcorrecting post-V2. Catechesis was terrible; Mary statues were being shoved into closets; rosaries were being discouraged. Catholicism was being aggressively de-Catholicized. I didn't know that at the time. I just thought I was born into a faith tradition with no fundamental difference from liturgical Protestantism. Nobody ever told me why I should be a Catholic as opposed to, say, an Episcopalian or a high-church Lutheran. I never even attended a Latin Mass until I was in my thirties. When I did, I felt like we'd all been robbed of something sacred and beautiful. These days I fall more on Alex O'Connor's side than on Michael Knowles' when it comes to religious belief, but I still find myself drawn to the sacredness, rituals, and tradition of the TLM. It humbles you. It directs you upward and out of yourself. The modern Mass doesn't. It's a banal two-way conversation that leaves you stuck there, in the mundane everyday world, and takes you no further. If Catholicism wants to shake up the world, I think the only way it can do that is through the TLM. Otherwise it's just another indistinguishable product on the shelf.
This is such a fantastic way to approach the TLM and the desire to have it celebrated. God bless Michael Knowles, one of the calmest and thoughtful kind souls to speak about Catholicism.
Michael, this was so simple, yet so profound! I was impressed with the children's responses. However, like you, I never really contemplated the difference between being holy and that which is sacred. Thank you. I learned something very important here today.
I went to a TLM from birth to about the 9th grade. I'm 72 now and I am still amazed at the number of Latin words I picked up along the way. It did wonders for my vocabulary. My diocese does not have a Latin Mass but I do go to a Mass said ad orientem (to the east). See what I mean about Latin and vocabulary? I still love the TLM and hope one day I will get to go to another one.

So cool to see our priest on the Michael Knowles channel! I pray that someday our beautiful parish of St. Michael will celebrate the Traditional Latin Mass.
I don't identify with any particular religion, but this video made me really want to go to a Traditional Latin Mass, especially since I value tradition extremely highly. Unfortunately, there is not a single Traditional Latin Mass in my city. I'm actually a bit pissed off to be honest. I should be able to take part in the same mass as did my ancestors. But apparently I can't. I won't be attending the new mass, nor any other church denomination (although I may look into Eastern Orthodoxy) until I have attended a Traditional Latin Mass. I do plan to move to a different city or perhaps country in a few years, so that may be my chance. I certainly hope so.

@@YiriUbic3793 I don't hate him entirely. Some of his older videos on Eastern Orthodoxy are quite good, especially when he had his take on Pints with Aquinas about the Orthodox. Pretty good episode. The reason I unsubscribed was because his viewpoint on Pope Francis seems to give him too much of the benefit of the doubt in this time where the Catholic Church is being attacked by modernism from foreign and internal threats. Pope Francis just doesn't go against the modernist like the Church needs. Whereas St. Pius X used his supreme papal authority to actual deal with the modernism in his time. The Roman Pontiff shouldn't have climate change and this Synod at the top of his mind. It should be actually punishing pedos in the Church, which he barely gave a slap on the hand to Fr. Rupnik who molested nuns and Cardinal Fernandez who has mishandled abuse cases, excommunicating politicians who support abortion (which he hasn't with Pres. Biden and others), and being bold with pronouncements against LGBTQ instead of dancing around the issue with same sex couple blessing which is scandalous.
@@bumponalog5001 Exactly. He treats us trads like raving fools who worship TLM and deny papal authority. No, we want a Mass that better glorifies God and have a pope that isn't anti-tradition and modernistic.
That point Michael made to the skeptic was really good: "If what is going on at the altar is something that I can cognize and comprehend, then it not be what it claims to be." I've never thought about it that way, but I'm coming around to that way of thinking more and more.
WhenI moved to a new town and was looking for a new parish as a relatively new Catholic, I signed up for a class being taught by lay people. During the first day I heard some heresies. Excellent! My family has been attending the TLM for a couple of years now. While my wife and I might prefer a more reverent Novus Ordo Mass, it is our children, particularly our youngest children, who are drawn to the TLM. I’m unable to explain it, but there it is-more exciting to the youth than folk hymns with guitars and tambourines. I hope this energy for the faith stays strong in them! As an aside, I had the pleasure of meeting Dr. Foley’s wife and daughter at at a Right To Life march a few years back, and that is how I discovered his “cocktail” book!

My wife an I had a Traditional Solemn High Nuptial Mass in the Præmonstratensian Rite on the feast of Our Lady of the Rosary. We are on our honeymoon watching this!!!
During Jesus' sacrifice on the cross, He made 7 (seven) touching prayers (statements) starting with "Father, forgive them for they know not what they are doing", and ending with "Father into Thy hands I commit my spirit". For those who find it difficult to follow the Latin, and want to "participate actually" (participatio actuosa), I would recommend meditating on these 7 statements, after Sanctus onwards when the reverential silence is the deepest.... and by the time you say "Domine non dignus" you will have surrendered to Jesus your soul ready to receive Him - Body and Blood, Soul and Divinity". You will have stood by the cross as Mary did accepting you as her "son' at His command. That is the beauty of theLatin mass. This is both active and actual participation at the Holy Mass. This is possible only during the reverent and dignified silence in the Latin Mass. During the actual crucifixion only His enemies patted each others' back for the black deed they did 1990 years ago.

I was so privileged to be introduced to the TLM by Dr. Foley himself when I was at Baylor back in 2008. In his winsome manner, he invited students to check out the local TLM, and I happened to be among them. He gave a 30-min explainer beforehand (which he called "Mass class"), which has stuck with me to this day. Absolutely wonderful man. And an Irishman at that!
Thee was nothing in Article 36 of the Constitution of the Sacred Liturgy that said put a table in front of the altar, turn versus populam, remove altar rails etc. etc, etc. Vatican II was a scourge warned by the Blessed Mother at La Salette and, especially Fatima's Third Secret. Our Lady warned "A great tragedy shall come upon the earth, mankind will not progress as God wants it to in the 2nd half of the 20th Century. Cardinals will fight cardinals and bishops will fight bishops and Rome itself will greatly change. Satan will even succeed in infiltrating into the highest positions in the Church."
Thanks Michael. I also thought both Masses the same. At first, I found the TLM difficult but then I found myself relaxing. I allowed the beauty and reverence to sink in.
Here here! Lift the restrictions! Please!!! As a former/converting Lutheran, I can personally attest that without the traditional Latin Mass, I would never have even considered the truth of Catholicism and that it is the sacred path to salvation. Now that I'm gratefully and happily on that path, I pray that everyone has the same opportunity.
We've attended a TLM for years. We asked one of our priests to visit my wife's parents, who at the time were going to Novus Ordo... He made the best comment about how most people treat the Eucharist, outside of the TLM... He said that, '... they walk up to the altar, take the host and pop it into their mouth like it was some kind of holy potato chip.'... We all laughed, because it's so true... But also, it's very sad.
The first time I attended the Latin Mass, I teared up. I finely understood the "Sacrifice of the Mass." We get to pray the Mass with the priest. It's wonderful!

A child's wisdom never ceases to amaze
You would hope so if they have experience of it. I wouldn't expect people to know Latin Mass if it is not something their parish or diocese does.
Truly wonderful the mind of a child is. -Yoda
It's unbelievable how well-spoken all the kids are! Hat's off to the parents, such a wonderful thing to see!
This actually goes to show that the children can have a better understanding of things than learned people. It doesn’t have to be super complicated, people. It’s often extremely simple.
However, we're all still cowards, cause we don't act on it.
😂 what? No. They are just regurgitating what was taught to them. We're seeing this exact same thing on the left with all that gender crap. Children are just little mimics around that age.
So naive. No. Clearly, this just shows they are just repeating what they heard from their parents. It's called brainwashing
@@thedroidish Being one of the main reasons behind Jordan Peterson saying he doesn't like the question of "Do you believe in God?".

YES I love Michael and Alex o Connor together we need a full discussion between them
I went to Mass this morning in my small country parish, the priest had exposed Our Lord in the Monstrance on the altar - as I arrived in the small vestibule (maybe 10' by 8') three "ministers" two of handing out the newsletter and one of reader" were having a loud conversation ( the door into the church was wide open) - maybe 10 people inside, I went in and closed the door behind me.
Argh! Too true!
Having never attended a Latin Mass I have noticed pre service socialization is on par with the Protestants.
@@eugenec2851 In God's Temple it is not "pre service socialization" it is Marxism with bells on, "you will not tell me what to do" I have burnt my bra" it is not of God. Fr. Brian Park is my Pastor, and he and his Associate Priests are fantastic, and all exhibit beautiful respect for the Eucharist. I love our parish in St. Michael Minnesota. We need to look at this as a "Both And"! Both are beautiful ways of honoring our Lord Jesus Christ, "Body, Blood, Soul, and Divinity". Great discussion. God bless, Tom 🙏
You have some amazing priests in your state. I’ve been listening to Father Mike Schmitz’s podcasts on the Bible and the Catechism and it’s been wonderful.
We go to Epiphany in Coon Rapids, but St. Michael's is lovely too. Our middle was baptized there. It seems like Fr. Brian is more traditional than the previous pastors?

Urgently, i ask you to find a near latin mass… RAISE YOUR KIDS THERE!!
Again, there is no disproving this statement; tradition is one of the objectives for living live.
You see, norvos ordo, it is more like a protestant worship time…. TLM IS THE WAY!

@@carolnearson7932 unfortunately, due to some family logistical complications, we are not able to see if their Sunday morning masses are the same at that parish. I know what you mean though. The last parish from our old town, had a much much different liturgy, depending on which priest was celebrating it, at which time
The only other option, is the student parish in my Town's University.
And they do use a normal piano at least
Still not the organ and Gregorian choir that my old Latin Mass used to do
But it's better than the rock and roll parish
I am a Protestant who loves Catholic mass (even the Novus Ordo) because of the reverence. I have so much respect for the Church and that it still has such a strong idea of worship, because that's been lost in so many evangelical churches.

What a time to be alive
Fr Brian was amazing! I’m glad he was open and in agreement with the idea that the TLM should be celebrated.
The priest seemed rather dismissive of the TLM.
It should be celebrated, but Novus Ordo should not be so dismissed and villainized as I hear from many TLM elitists.
St. Michael's in St. Michael, Minnesota is on the list of parishes at the website Reverent Catholic Mass so he probably says the Novus Ordo very reverently as it should be done.

It is possible

thank you thank you.
We just got an extension of our TLM in Savannah. Our Bishop wrote to Rome to request it. I drive 60 miles each way every weekend. Very worth it!
And as we know, it is being eliminated according to Rome. ☹️☹️
Amen!!

Divine liturgy is beautiful. The TLM is wonderful as well. I've personally found my home in Eastern Orthodox Christianity. Good luck to you.
You should keep it in mind when you travel!
You could look up pious the tenth masses too, while the priests are in skism the mass itself is not and it's a TLM.

What he said about Tradition vs old is something I’ve been saying for a while. It’s so annoying when people like Michael Lofton say something like “communion in the hand is more traditional” it may be older, but traditional means it’s been done for the longest time
Yes. That is why I unsubscribed from Lofton a while ago. His rhetoric felt too hostile to traditionalists like me.
@@_kidtripp7772I think you are in your feelings Lofton is anything but hostile to traditions he tries to convey a balanced argument about the subject but some of you act like toddlers when people don't say what you want to hear
Lofton is truly one of the most arrogant people I've ever seen. He's got a constant smug attitude that rubs me the wrong way. I've known a few people in my life like that... never nice to be around.
I asked the leader about the real resurrection, and she said to me that no one believed in that anymore. I met with the pastor and left that parish.

Here here! Lift the restrictions! Please!!!
This is interesting content! I love the last the most cause, despite him being the expert, he speaks in clear language anyone can understand. This is a true gift if you are focused on complex topics to a diverse audience
