Similar, but this is what happens when you elevate a man(and just a man) to be the vicar of Christ who can't be wrong ex cathedra...you end up having to defend all kinds of statements(even tho what Ben is talking about does not appear to be ex cathedra).

How can you possibly make that claim at this point? The Roman basis for the Great Schism has even been admitted by the Vatican to be fraudulent. The only reason why the Vatican hasn't embraced Holy Orthodoxy at this point is for a lack of humility.
I really don't understand how our separated brethren can possibly deny that Orthodoxy is Christ's Church at this point. There is literally zero basis to say otherwise outside self-rationalization. @@apax9856

Thank you for your kind support. As a Protestant, you have a brotherly love that this so-called Pope completely lacks. Francis despises faithful Catholics and the Catholic Church, and he is doing everything he can to destroy the Church from within by abusing his authority. It's a tragic irony. Remember that the Pope is Christ's servant, while the Head of the Catholic Church is still Christ. Francis appears to have forgotten this truth. When the Pope attacks the faith and fails to protect it, his authority ends.

As a devout Catholic, I will say the Pope speaks very confusing and circular without being specific. It makes me question EVERYTHING he says. I follow Scripture, Tradition and Reason while remaining steadfast to a holy, balanced sacramental life, believing Jesus is in control, and that this, too, shall pass, eventually.

    • @No_Comply

But you have to see how this becomes conflicting for Catholics. The pope holds the highest earthly office, and is the Vicar of Christ; as such, he needs to be clear and truthful with his words. I'm just now getting back into the Catholic faith, and while I'm not opposed to Church tradition, it pains me to see people drawn away from Christianity because of inaction, indolence, and ambiguity on behalf of Christian leaders, including the pope. No one is a "guru," but this is the man we entrust to maintain the integrity of the Universal Church.

@@No_ComplyNope, the Pope is not entrusted to maintain the integrity of the Church. That's Our Lord's job. Besides, what do you mean by "maintain the integrity of the Universal Church"? If you mean the Church on Earth is supposed to be perfect in every way or else it's not the True Church, then that's also not what the Church teaches. We are in a fallen world and the integrity of the Church on Earth will always be attacked from the inside and the outside. It won't ever be perfect. Even during St Paul's time the Church had been plagued by controversy and scandal.
As for the people who were drawn away from Christianity due to bad leaders, they are the victims of the sin of scandal and must be prayed for; but you cannot avoid such things from happening in a fallen world.

There is legitimate spiritual good in the practice of trying to save the Holy Father's words, even when he's not formally teaching. And this usually offers great comfort to those who practice it when they find out that he's been taken out of context, he's been mistranslated, he's been misunderstood, he's been flat out misquoted, and/or he isn't as bad as many say. A Pope should be the first to be Clear about what he says and leave no room for "mis-whatever" his very murky words (if you want to be nice to the point of naiveté), because he is our Lord's appointee.
Unfortunately, it seems that in these days, everyone strives to blend in as much as possible and run away from speaking the Truth, from teaching the Gospel and paint a very visible line that marks where the Catholic Church stands; with Jesus Christ.
Everyone is welcome, yes. Just leave the sins out. Those are not welcome.

Ideology is an artificial belief construct that often leads to sectarianism and even cult-like mentality. In the US, for instance, political ideology often takes precedence over doctrine. For instance, we have seen US bishops lamenting what they perceive as a shift toward “Marxism” in the Church, whereas such conviction is pretty much laughed off in the rest of the Catholic world. We have seen conservative US Catholics approach the issue of illegal immigration with the same hostility as displayed by their favorite political affiliation, rather than taking the biblical view of solidarity and acceptance. More specific to the pope’s comments, Ideology is also the insistence that a particular traditional liturgical practice (such as TLM) is superior to a more modern interpretation and must be defended at all costs, including the possibility of generating divisions and schisms. This is the conviction that the “form” of our faith is as important as its “content”; something the Church never taught.

Great point. And one thing I had noticed, especially when it comes to Pope Francis is that what gets reported isn’t always the entirety of what he said. They will take a snippet, and then some media sites will go nuts and rage. But when you take into context the conversation, the question asked, and his entire response, it puts it in a better light to make a more informed decision. If the media took quotes and clips to defame President Trump, what makes people think that Satan won’t influence the media to do that for Pope Francis, so that people will stop listening to him. I don’t speak his language, so I go off what the translator says, who knows if the site im watching that the translator isn’t goofing up certain words on purpose.
One thing that always has stuck out to me is how Padre Pio reacted when he was sold out by that Bishop and told he couldn’t do public Mass no more and was basically called a liar about the Stigmata. He 100% obeyed, without hesitation. I don’t remember his exact words, but it was something along the lines of he will obey to what the Church says, no matter what. Why I say that, is that I will listen to what Pope Francis says and if there is some area I need to improve upon, I will take that seriously. I will try to be as prudent as possible and research (seeing how we have all types of way to research available). And if a change in me is necessary, I will thank God for giving me the grace to realize that and pray for the graces to work on that fault.

There are those that call themselves Messianic Jews, they were raised Jewish and embraced Jesus later in life. This group would certainly recognize themselves as such. And the Old Testament is the Torah and Tenach and that’s pretty Jewish too 😂…but it’s true that in modern times the two faiths don’t align as much as they used to. But there’s still continuity that is undeniable. Let’s just be generous in our interpretation and not nitpick words.

I will be honest, if their usage of this term implies an increase in proximity between jews and christians, it is not a bad thing, centuries of bad blood between us and we do want them to convert eventually. I agree that if it's used trying to subvert Christianity as "the same as Judaism", it is a bad term. I personally wouldn't use it, but given the context, it seems to be the former use, of proximity.

The problem is that the Pope has the charism of infallible interpretation of the Bible (and actually beyond the Bible, so theology more generally). That is a tremendous power, if you also believe that the Bible is the Word of God (as I do). So, if the Pope were to make an ex Cathedra proclamation on an issue of biblical interpretation, for example, on the reality or nature of marriage, that appeared to redefine what the nature of marriage is, then the Catholic would be in an authoritative bind: he would have to choose between the infallible proclamation of the Magisterium (with the Pope as its head) and what would seem to be the plain reading of the Scriptures AND the long tradition of the Church.

If I remember, Conciliarism was condemned, and it was only used not to remove a pope acting badly - though none taught contrary to dogma, but did lead immoral personal lives - but was used when there were two or three claimants to the papacy, which lasted 70 years at one point. The Council decided who was the pope - in this case it declared that one was pope, the others weren't, required that he resign, and they held an election for a new pope. I don't think there is a mechanism at all for "removing a bad pope," but cardinals and bishops can write to the pope expressing their concerns and ask him to reform or to resign.
