The tombs of Inherkha and Sennedjem (signed as Sennetum here) in the Workman's Village are the most beautifully painted and intimate in the area. Makes sense since these were the craftsmen that decorated the royal tombs. Sennedjem's family vault was discovered intact in the 1880s with about 20 members of his family surrounding him and some of the finest crafted tomb furnishings from the 19th Dynasty. Like King Tut's gear it has travelled the world to various visiting exhibitions.

Hello Guys. Really an eye opener video. I really love your videos, full of info, entertaining and very objective, despite all negative observations (which are true by the way). Seen both Karnak and luxor temple with the Sphinx avenue...and of course valley of kings and hatchheapsuit temple...bought an alabaster small statue (original and authentic) depicting Blastet goddess (the cat) for $35. Worth every penny.The balloon did not go as high as the ride I did in Cappadocia. But that allowed me to see the valley and the temple better 😊
I've heard about the balloon rides in Cappadocia. We need to get there and try one! Unfortunately for us we only saw Luxor Temple from the exterior (we got caught up in the locks and couldn't land in time to see it). So glad you had a great experience. Thank you so much for watching, Michael! I don't think that's a bad idea! Some folks on our cruise were staying for an entire week, which meant they took the cruise round trip and had more time. Our ship was nice, but there wasn't a ton to do on board and the food wasn't so amazing that we wanted to eat there for an entire week. The cruise from Luxor to Aswan had an extra day so that things weren't quite so rushed, but we couldn't get the timing to work for us. Also, I preferred to spend more time at places in Luxor that the cruise didn't cover.

Great presentation. I was a little sad that you missed Karnak. It's fantastic to wander around during the day and they have a sound and light show at night. A different language every hour. There are so many temples to see and a sacred crocodile lake.

I just found you. I’m loving watching your videos. We were lucky enough to spend a month in Egypt in 2018, and I am enjoying reliving part of it with you. . You have done a very realistic and educational video. You mentioned your “tour” of the West Bank did not include a guide. Not sure if you are aware, but tour guides are not allowed inside most of the tombs in Valley of the Kings.
Such a shame you missed the temples in Luxor.

Hi Debbie, Thank you so much for watching! We actually have an entire series of videos from our month in Egypt. We did a Nile River tour with additional Luxor stops that are not included in the episode you've linked. I'll add a link to our series if you want to watch it. What we thought was a tour actually was only a driver, which wasn't clear to us when we booked it. And that person didn't take us to the Valley of the Kings. He took us to the Valley of the Workers, an alabaster shop, and Medinet Habu Temple. We did these because they weren't part of our Nile River excursions. Our Nile River guide took us to the Valley of the Kings, and although he didn't go inside the tombs, he gave us very detailed information before and after each one we visited. We would have hoped that we'd have received the same style of information in the places the driver took us. But we know better now to specifically ask even in other parts of the world what exactly we are hiring (e.g., a guide or a driver). It sounds like you had a great experience as well.

We are leaving for Egypt soon. Videos are great so helpful. Were public restrooms plentiful? What was your experience?
What fun news! Have you seen the rest of our videos from Egypt? I will link them below for you. We felt like there was the amount of restrooms you'd expect anyplace else. All the archeological sites had them, but you need to bring tissues with you everywhere because there isn't always toilet paper. Also, you should stop at ATMs and prepare to change some larger bills into small bills because you're expected to pay the "bathroom attendant" E£5-10 (ideally 10 if you can do that). They will give you toilet paper most of the time as well. You pay them regardless of the toilet paper because they also clean the restrooms. They all flushed well (they were not new, but they all did work). Also, you do not flush toilet paper because of bad plumbing which clogs easily (Greece is the same way). There is a waste bin next to the toilet and you put it in there instead. I know that may sound unpleasant, but it's the situation for most places.

Luxor is my favorite city in Egypt. It's quite breathtakingly beautiful, with the Theban hills beyond the Nile. I wish we'd stayed a whole day at the Valley of the Kings, rather than the half day we did spend. Seeing the tomb of Seti I was a dream of mine and his tomb was open on the day we were there. I actually cried after seeing it. It does cost an additional fee to go into several of the tombs. I saw five tombs in all and wish I'd seen more. I highly recommend Medinet Habu and the Ramesseum. We were disappointed in Memphis. Other than the huge statue of Ramses, there's nothing to see there except some tumbled pieces of statuary and a lot of stray dogs. Considering the history of Memphis, it's so sad there's not more ot it left. Do take a boat ride on the Nile. Go across to the St. George Hotel and dine in their restaurant. It was one of the best meals we had in Egypt. Hire a driver and guide and go see Dendera and the temple of Seti I. Both are stunning.
We did enjoy Mediate Habu, and I thought the Ramesseum was worth it for the Ramses II statue alone. I was absolutely in awe at the immensity of it. We missed St. George Hotel, but you might want to check out the rest of our video series from Egypt. I will have to visit Dander and Temple of Seti I on our next visit. Great Videos! My wife and I are going to Egypt in October. We will be in Luxor 4 nights. What Bank is recommended for us?
Hi Chris, How exciting for you both! I can't make the decision for you, but here are some things to consider:
* West Bank will be cheaper, there are fewer hotels, but plenty of very nice Airbnbs, a bit farther from the airport because you have to cross over the Nile and bridges are a distance between each other, most of the food is more authentic, and there are plenty of dirt roads and locals, closer to all the burial sites like Valley of the Kings, Valley of the Queens, Valley of the Workers, etc. and hot air ballooning-which we highly recommend!
* East Bank will be more expensive, more touristy, closer to airport and cruise ships, more upscale hotels, closer to Karnak Temple and Luxor Temple, more upscale restaurants, and more shopping.
We were very happy on the West Bank and felt like it gave us a very authentic experience, but it might be roughing it a little too much for some people. You need to decide for yourself what type of experience you are looking for. If you have additional questions, don't hesitate to ask! Also, we'd love to know what you think of Luxor after you return. -Judy

There are touts everywhere who will give you a lift if you negotiate with them, but understand what you are getting into. We stayed in an Airbnb and our co-host was a driver and transported us several places. We asked for a quote and they always seemed fair and reasonable. Otherwise, we booked tours and they picked us up.

I have concerns about being patted down at foreign security checkpoints because I have an ostomy pouch. In the US, the TSA people are more familiar with these types of medical issues. Can you give me any advice for security? We are flying from Cairo to Luxor (and return) with Viking River tours,

I think work is underway to remove all the soot that has been accumulated over thousands of years on the artifacts, especially the ceilings. Thanks to an Egyptian man who invented a material to remove the soot without damaging the paints, we can see the beauty of the artifacts.
You are absolutely right. It was interesting to see that people were working on the artifacts, and they really were in excellent condition. I don't think anyplace we visited was too covered in soot for us to appreciate the history. Egypt has done a wonderful job of keeping things looking beautiful. Did you book your own trip? I'm looking to plan a trip but not sure where to start.
We are full-time travelers, so yes, we booked everything ourselves. However, we have additional videos that might be helpful that I'll link below. We booked a Nile River Cruise, which I highly recommend, even if you're not "cruise people." We used Egypt Tours Portal and our guide was Mahmoud Nour. That episode lists all of the contact information, which should be very helpful. Mahmoud was an incredible guide, and if he is taking care of you, you will have an awesome experience. Note that your guide can make or break your trip, so definitely ask for Mahmoud Nour if you can (I make no money from referring him or this tour company). The cruise is great because it covers a lot of the sites you will want to visit. Ideally a five-day cruise will give you the most time to cover it all. If you have additional time in Luxor, I would recommend going to the Valley of the Workers (you only visit an alabaster shop there when you're on a cruise) and also Medinet Habu Temple either before or after your cruise. We also booked a hot air balloon in Luxor, which was amazing. Go ahead and watch our video series, and I'd be happy to answer additional questions if you have them. -Judy

Great video, great info but that wasn’t a train pass ticket it’s more like a ticket for not buying tickets before hand which would have been much less
I had to look at the tickets you had to check because it’s just a 3hrs trip
You are right that a fine was included, but it was something small like E£10. We were between a rock and a hard place, though. They wouldn't sell us the later ticket because the delayed train was arriving first. It didn't help that the website was down for an entire week beforehand. Luxor is beautiful city and full of mounments around especially mind and queen valley , the problem yes a lot of people wanna guide to all tourists to get some money more or may be if you alone can be alover for one of them @ But as Scott is beautiful because of monument
Yes, we agree that Luxor is beautiful. We could have stayed longer. We found people accepted when we said no to their tours or offers for help, so we never felt harassed. People are kind and also just trying to earn money and support their families just like everyone else. -Judy
@FindingGinaMarie I wished next time , you will explore more cities in egypt like (Port said -Ismalia-Hurghada -Sharm El sheikh- Port fouad- mansoura city my city ,etc... because most focus on Cairo, let me tell you we Egyptians for years hated to visit Cairo because of crowed and traffic jams, that is why they built already new cairo cities and in process of transfer the official offices there , we have many uncontrol problems like traffic , roads , scams some times for more money , because the culture of bargaing here not like USA , I already subscribed to your channel .. wish you visited again .

We are interested in exploring more of Egypt, but for our first visit, it seemed like Cairo was a must-see place. And we're happy to have visited there. Where did you guys get your information from when you said the paintings got defaced because of the “Coptics”???? Please provide a reference to this claim.
Thanks for watching. Maybe you are misunderstanding what we are referencing. In many, many of the archeological sites, you can see that the faces of gods were scratched out. It's called iconoclasm and when the Coptics took over many of the places, they did that because their beliefs were opposite of the the Christian belief in a single god. Every guide who took us through the temples shared the same story. -Judy
So, strange question, what type of lavatories are there while touring the different sites? Are they clean, western type toilets...?
Hi Sherrie, Yes, they are mostly the same and as clean as in most places. There is a bin for toilet paper since the pipes don’t really allow for it to be flushed. And there typically is an Egyptian standing outside of the bathroom that you’ll need to tip £5. Often there is no TP, but the attendant will give you some (or bring tissues!). But on the cruise ship itself, you can flush the toilet paper. Thanks for watching and for the question! -Judy

The restrooms at most tour sites are very rudimentary, with no air conditioning. When we were at the Valley of the Kings, the restrooms out in the Valley were in a portable trailer, similar to Porta Potties. But, when you gotta go, you gotta go. You just deal with it. Always take your own toliet paper. The attendants want a tip for a single square of tp.
@teresaharris-travelbybooks5564 I wouldn't say single square of TP. And most places were just fine. I didn't find the bathrooms to be exceptionally rudimentary, especially considering the squat bathrooms in Italy in many places. These were all flushing toilets at the places we used them, but we concede that we didn't use a public restaurant everywhere we visited. -Judy

You actually paid a violation ticket on the train, which is more expensive than a normal ticket, because you boarded without a ticket 😂
This is interesting to know. It was a mess. We could not buy an online ticket because the system was down. We also could not buy a ticket at the booths because trains were late and they did not want to sell us a, let's say 10am ticket, because the late 9:30am train would be arriving first. They are the ones that told us to buy a ticket on the train (along with half the internet from our reading of what to do to get train tickets in Egypt). Oh well. We were happy to get on, the fare was much less than some European trains, and we arrived in Aswan at a decent time. Thanks for letting us know. Is there a suggestion you can offer for next time? What is an average tip that people there expect or should i say a good enough amount
Thanks for watching and for your great question. It depends on what you are doing. Our guide gave us this rule of thumb for our Nile River cruise: - Tipping for crew: $7-10 per person per night; for the horse and carriage driver ($1-2 USD for the round trip); we gave about a £30 Egyptian tip to our Uber drivers ($1 USD); £5 Egyptian for the service person at the bathrooms; £200 Egyptian for a driver that spent four hours driving us around (more if the day was longer); £600 Egyptian for a tour guide for a full-day tour. We tried to consider the experience we got and looked at what it would cost us for a tip in USD. It was a no-brainer for us to give omeone who drove us around and used their gas £200, which is the equivalent of $6.50 USD did not seem unreasonable. Right now the Egyptian pound is at a very low exchange rate and it does not go very far, so we tried to be as generous as we could knowing that it was a very small amount to us but meant a great deal to them. @@mustafash100 We enjoyed our Luxor Airbnb. Except for roosters in the morning, it was lovely and comfortable. The only thing we want to warn you about is that the roads to it are dusty and you will be staying in an area that's rather humble, meaning there are farmers. It is not a super slick area in any way. There are touts who will ask if you want a boat ride or a taxi or a tour, but they are pleasant and were never threatening. There were about six different restaurants we rotated between that all were about 5 minutes walking from our Airbnb. Our host lives in the UK, but the local person, Hassan, who we dealt with was terrific and also spoke English. He lived in our same building complex and was handy and available whenever we needed him. He was honest and completely trustworthy. Here's a link to our Airbnb (not sponsored). -Judy

We didn't originally realize all that we were missing. Full-time travel is our life, so we don't travel like vacationers and squeeze everything into two weeks. We also run a TH-cam channel and website/blog that take up a lot of our time. But now we know and seeing Alexandria is the perfect excuse (not that we need one) to return to Egypt! How were you able to break down your money?
Hi Becky, Thanks for watching. I’m not sure if I understand your question, but we went to ATMs quite a bit and were able to withdraw enough money in order to pay in cash everywhere. We learned in Cairo that most places do not accept foreign currency and their card readers and wifi are too finicky to rely on paying by card. If you’re asking how we broke down the 200 Egyptian pound notes, sometimes we would enter odd numbers into ATMs and it would give us smaller notes, and other times we could get change from restaurants and even the small little grocery stores/mini marts. Great question, but if I didn’t give you the answer you were looking for, please reach out! -Judy

Good information, but I think it’s just way too distracting watching your hand/hands flying around nonstop while you are talking. I encourage you to watch other TH-camrs and you just never see it regardless of that’s just how you talk. So sad because I like both of you and the actual content, but it is so uncomfortable to watch and not relaxing at all. Enjoy your adventures and wish you nothing but the best.
Hi BW, We appreciate very much that you watched, but I had mentioned that we had recorded several videos that still are rolling out before we got comments about our overly expressive hand movements! I promise that we heard you and have been correcting it, but short of re-recording videos, we have been releasing what we had already recorded. We've done our best to cover up what we could with b-roll, but clearly it's still a problem on these older recordings. We certainly understand if you need a break from our channel for the next few episodes, but we hope you'll come back after the next two weeks (our Nile River video and one of our recordings from Cyprus). We filmed seven episodes about Egypt (mostly from Egypt), so although you still are seeing our trip, we've been in two other countries since then.
