  • Ep 47 This is not something that we thought we'd ever say, but… you have to take a Nile Cruise! We've never spent time on a cruise ship before this, but the sheer number of tours and experiences that we managed to fit into four days was incredible.
WE HIGHLY RECOMMEND our guide: MAHMOUD NOUR: +20 102 6979554 (let him know we recommended you-we are not affiliated in any way, but we'd love to have him succeed even more-he is AWESOME!)

Thanks for watching! Cairo especially is chaotic. Aswan and Luxor are somewhat less so (except for street vendors, who are persistent throughout Egypt). We really loved our cruise, and I think it really is well worth doing. You don't have a ton of time to linger at each archeological site, but it's enough to take a ton of pictures, wander a bit, and hear a good amount of history. We are so grateful to have experienced it. Listen to your wife! We always know best! -Judy

      "Egyptian Muslim"
1- what does religion has to do with identifying yourself as Egyptian or not ?
2- since when in Egypt we specify what religion we follow as an introduction when talking to people ?
3- why do you think any foreigner needs to know what religion you follow
you either Egyptian or not, that's it, being a muslim does NOT matter
even if your intention is to show that Muslims are welcoming to foreigners, that might be required in some other country where religion is their whole/only identity
in Egypt we identify as Egyptians, that's it
your religion is your personal choice and no one cares about it
don't forget that Egypt has more than 7000 years of history, Islam didn't even exist 1400 years ago

Egypt is a very interesting destination for those open to the adventure. Been there twice as a younger traveler and would love to add it to our globetrotting itinerary when we fully retire in a couple of years. Interesting tid bit about feluccas on the Nile river. They use wind power to sail upriver (southbound) and the downstream current to sail North.

Very informative video,we are also planning to travel to visit this December and also planning to go on the Nile River cruise. Will you please let us know how you people managed to book abu simbel tour and luxor hot air balloon ride as its not included in the package and how much it costs if we want to include the same.

    • @FindingGinaMarie
      @FindingGinaMarie  8 หลายเดือนก่อน

Our tour guide on the Nile Cruise coordinated our Abu Simbel tour. Although it wasn't included in our package-which you can negotiate beforehand, but we did not-our guide highly recommended we visit there. We had to get up very early in the morning, but it was absolutely worth doing! We paid approximately $185 USD for both of us. We arranged the hot air balloon when we first arrived in Luxor through Hod-Hod Soliman and we paid $160 for both of us directly through them. I think that the hot air balloon rides through the cruise may be cheaper, but if you will be at the mercy of good weather if you wait to book it during your cruise. If there's any chance you'll be in Luxor in advance of the cruise, it may be a safer bet because you will have a little more time for good weather.

And yes, definitely frustrating because no one wants to get taken advantage of. Vendors, on the other hand, are trying to make a living. I get it. It can be quite annoying. But in certain areas, people know to shut down their persistence because Egypt's vendors do have a reputation of being overly persistent. I do appreciate that they are trying to earn a living, and they are out there trying to make it happen. As far as the people that overlap (e.g., vendors selling things that really are, "Made in China," but trying to pass them off as authentic treasures, well, that's on the buyer to know what they're buying. There's a lot to do at night in addition to seeing the temples and ruins. Ideally, you'll want to do some of your exploring during the early part of the day because there typically isn't much shade. @@SofaKingwetodded93 Great question; it's the opposite. Every tour company has tour guides that they use to coordinate all the tours that are part of the cruise experience. For us, we booked the cruise, and then Mahmoud was built into our experience. There were about 16 people who went on tours together as a group. We ate together on the ship and took all our offshore excursions together. The guides are independent contractors that the cruise ships hire. So if you reach out to Mahmoud and tell him what you're looking for, he'll recommend a cruise ship and then work with the cruise line to be booked on that cruise. You won't pay more for having him as your guide. He won't be your private tour guide in that case, but that shouldn't be any problem. We met fabulous people on our tour and will be friends for life. Outside of the cruise experience, he also can be your private guide for specific places you want to visit (like we did for all of our other tours, but we didn't have great guides like him-we just didn't find out about him until our cruise, which was at the end of our time in Egypt). Reach out to him and he will put your mind at ease! Again, we make no money if you use him; we just think he is the best guide out there. -Judy

All the things you're talked about here, are the reasons I didn't want to go on a cruise. Being a bit of an introvert, the idea of dining with a group of strangers is not my idea of a good time. I also don't want to be part of a large group; having to travel with and meet the time constraints of being with a group. Philae is so beautiful, I could spend the bigger part of a day there. We had a driver and guide to travel to Abu Simbel. Seeing the desert; along the way; and the fantastic rock formations was very interesting. At Abu Simbel, it was very crowded, with cruise ship passengers. Our guide said to just be patient and they will leave and you will have it to yourself, which is exactly what happened. We visited Egypt during a hotter time of year and many times, we were the only people in the temples. I can't imagine being at Edfu, with that kind of crowd. That's like Disney World. FYI; it's pronounced Hat chep suit.

Hi Mike, thanks for watching, and for your comment. We are ambivalent about our tour company, but our tour guide was absolutely incredible. Overall, I think that everybody else that used to this tour company was very happy. The group of people we toured with was outstanding and we still are in touch with them. Since we booked this tour when we already were in Egypt, we didn’t need the tour company to help us with coordinating hotels or flights or transfers. We only needed the cruise itself. Others ended up working with them to get from Cairo to Aswan, and possibly even to Egypt directly. We took the base that the company offered, but we should have arranged to go to Abu Simbel, but fortunately our tour guide suggested it, and it ended up being an extremely worthwhile add-on. Again I highly recommend our tour guide. He was fabulous and so passionate.
As far as the ship itself, we really didn’t notice any noise at all, no thin walls, or hearing anything outside of our cabin. We didn’t move our beds together, but crew will be happy to do so for you.
I would say the food was good, not outstanding, although the last night was definitely more elaborate. We went during high season, the price was very fair, and as we exited our ship, there’s certainly were nicer ships, but there also were several lesser ships than ours. -Judy

The cruise departing from Luxor didn't work with our available timing. But it gave us time to spend a night in the Nubian Village, which was very cool. We'll be going there around the end of November. What time did your 4th day tour end? We plan to catch a flight to Jordan on our 4th day. The flight departs after 7pm. Do you think we'll be able to make it to Luxor airport after the last day of the included tour?

Thanks for watching and for your question. I think it should be doable if you let your guide know your constraints. We did not finish until around 5:30pm, so it may be cutting it close. However, our guide was trying to squeeze in one or more of the sights on the previous day, which would have made our last day less packed. Unfortunately, we were at the mercy of when the locks opened and our ship was able to pass through and luck wasn't in our favor. But you may have better luck.
Worst case is that you miss the last activity. But I would not miss a Nile River cruise because there are workarounds. -Judy

Thank you for subscribing. We appreciate it! It's about 30 minutes from the East Bank (Karnak Temple) to the airport. Taxis are everywhere, so you shouldn't have trouble getting a ride. In Egypt you will need to pay cash for most everything, including all gratuities. Fortunately, there are ATMs everywhere, but make sure that you are using a card to withdraw that doesn't charge you Foreign Transaction Fees. How long will you be in Egypt? Hi there, it is MS Nile Style. Here is a link to the company’s website: www.msnilestyle.com/
MS stands for motor ship. The Movenpick is a more luxury ship. Our cruise was very nice and our cabin was comfortable. And whether you use a more luxury brand-maybe they serve expensive seafood every night (ours only had lobster and shrimp on the last night when everything was more amped up) or offer more luxury amenities, but regardless, the tours all are to the same exact archeological sites and they travel to the same docks and cover the same waters as the more moderately priced ships. I hope this helps, but feel free to ask anything else. As a reminder, I needed to book through a cruise company, and we used Egypt Tours Portal, and our tour guide-who we loved-is an Egyptologist. -Judy

I know this is pretty late to argue, but I have been wondering of the reason behind the government attitude in making foreigners pay twice, thrice, and in your case with the train tickets, 4 folds the cost of the original tickets we Egyptians pay for. I have been noticing that through all youtubers' videos when it comes to deal with the government, such as trains' tickets, museums' tickets, etc.. This is a double-standard approach.

    • @FindingGinaMarie
      @FindingGinaMarie  9 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

It's actually quite common for locals to get a discount and tourists to have to pay extra. As locals, you may be bringing guests to attractions or want to visit multiple times per year. And your government does not want to overcharge you. But people who are coming for a visit obviously have money to spend or they wouldn't be taking a vacation, and so they are "taxed" by paying non-resident fees. That's also why hotels have an assortment of extra taxes. The expectation is that those costs will help the country but be charged to guests, not residents. Except for countries that have free museums, nearly every country has one fee for locals and another for tourists. We're okay with it. Thanks for watching. -Judy

I want to tell you that in Islam alcohol is forbidden
It is forbidden for a Muslim to sell it, offer it, or even carry it
And I want to tell you that this act does not represent 95% of Muslims in Egypt
Regarding the dancer, these people are mostly not Egyptian women, and very few of them are Egyptian women, and they are the closest thing to prostitutes without intercourse. We in Egypt do not respect them, and this is also forbidden in Islam.
Most of them are not from Egypt. You will find many from the countries of the old Soviet Union and Eastern Europe
I wanted to tell you that they do these things because they say that foreign tourists want this
Most of the people of Egypt disagree with them and tell them that whoever comes to visit Egypt wants to feel the Egyptian history and culture. It is not a condition for his visit to drink alcohol in public places. If he brings his own wine and drinks it in his room or the house he rents, that is his business.
But it should not be presented in public.
Do you agree with me that if alcohol was banned in public places, then you, as foreigners, would feel some problem in this matter?! .. I am waiting for your answer

    • @FindingGinaMarie
      @FindingGinaMarie  9 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

Thanks for this comment. We're aware that Muslims don't drink alcohol and we respect that. We were at a few Egyptian restaurants that offered wine, but it really wasn't very good, so except for once, we didn't drink alcohol when we were in Egypt. Our Nile cruise offered alcohol, but we didn't have any. Tourism probably would improve with alcohol. There could be party boats that involved drinking and they would probably make a lot of money, especially because the USD and Euro are so strong here. BUT WE REALIZE THAT IS NOT THE CULURE OF EGYPT. AND WE RESPECT THAT. We drink only occasionally, but we know that's not the case for everyone. And just because something like alcohol might be popular if it was offered to tourists is not a reason for Egyptians to compromise their morals or their religion or culture by offering it.
As far as belly dancers go, Kevin was being a good sport, but we would have MUCH preferred some other form of entertainment. A lot of people left when they saw what the entertainment was, so we think an alternative idea would be successful. We agree that we would have enjoyed something that focused on Egyptian culture and history. The second night of the cruise men wore gallibaya, but we were tired and didn't participate that evening. -Judy

      Welcome, Judy
Did you know that we also have this name and it is an Islamic name?!
Judy: It is the name of the mountain on which the ark of our Prophet Noah, peace be upon him, rested
      Did you know that?!
Regarding alcohol, I think that you and many visitors to Egypt are not interested in being drunk during their visit to Egypt
They want to capture these beautiful memories
They want to feel the joy of navigating memories of civilization and culture
They want to feel the value of the trip and the money they spend on it
I am here talking to you, not as a tourism official in Egypt or as I have a position that allows me to do this
But I speak to you as a Muslim citizen from Egypt
I wanted to hear from the horse's mouth, as you say, haha, your opinion on this accountability
Regarding organizing Nile parties that include parties and good types of wine, I want to explain to you: What will be the difference between this and your country?!
In your country there are cruises with the finest types of wines and food?!
I do not think that you and those who come to Egypt are interested in this at all
Did you know that Egypt has many Islamic, Christian, Jewish, Pharaonic, ancient Egyptian and Roman monuments?
Not to mention the picturesque tourist places?!
Have you visited, for example, Siwa Oasis, the Bahariya Oasis?
Have you visited Mount Al-Tur in Sinai, which God spoke to Moses, and the eyes of Moses, peace be upon him?
Have you visited St. Catherine's Monastery in Sinai?
Have you visited the historical, cultural and popular attractions in Cairo, such as the Citadel of Salah al-Din al-Ayyubi, and the popular markets such as Ataba, El Moski, and the Jewish Quarter?
There are many, many, many tourist, cultural and popular places in Egypt that you have not visited
For the information, the area of Mohandessin, Maadi and Zamalek for the Egyptians are upscale areas in which the middle class to the upper class of Egyptians live.
There are places that are much cheaper than the area where you live
Also, 55 Egyptian pounds for a cup of Nescafe or coffee, which is very expensive. If you made the movement in the streets of Cairo and sat in one of the cafes that Egyptians sit in, you would get it for 10 or 15 pounds, no more.
I know that many say this is tourism and they exploit the tourists to achieve the greatest gain from the profit and because they have the rent of the place and the workers in it and the expenses of spending on the place and taxes
But I also love to show my country in its most beautiful appearance before the guest who will come to us and be an example of an honest and respected Muslim as an ambassador for my religion first and for my country second.
And how much I would love to have your Facebook account to be friends. I will send you a friend request, and I am honored by that, Mrs. Judy

Just to clarify a few points. Our coffee was E£20 and we stayed in Mit Akaba, which is inside the district of Mohandiseen, but not actually in its city center. So it was not the rich section of Mohandiseen. You are right that there are many places we did not visit and would love to return and see more of Egypt. I wasn't aware of Judy also being an Islamic name. I was named after St. Jude from the Old Testament of the Bible.
You asked about alcohol. Kevin and I rarely drink. However, because Egypt is an inexpensive destination to visit, I think there are people who would visit if there were "party boats" that involved alcohol. I'm not saying in any way that I'd support Egypt doing this, but there are people who live in the US who specifically go on vacation to get drunk and party. Those aren't the people you are trying to attract, but those people exist and likely would exploit Egypt if it did not have a Muslim culture.
And I also agree that there are many people who want to experience the culture, the people, and all the historic sites that you mention and will come anyway. Unfortunately, some people don't know enough about Egypt and are unfamiliar with how to navigate it and so the uncertainty can be a barrier to travel there for some people. We have tried to share our experiences to hopefully encourage people to move past their fears and experience the wonders of Egypt. -Judy
