I didn't realise until your "outro" that you aren't a professional youtuber and I really thought you were based on the presentation. The video was awesome honestly. I went for a OneXplayer and have the same opinion as you with your Aya Neo. I love it. I'm not a hardcore gamer neither, I don't play the most recent games, but I still I use it all the time to play all my old games from my Steam library, and also some Wii U and PSP emulated games that I always wanted to play. Even though it's an Intel CPU, I have no issue on any game.
    Could have totally go for the Aya, looks really great as well.
    I would suggest to switch to Windows 11, as the OS has significantly better UX than W10 for touch UX - it goes very well with those devices.

    Most applications in Windows still support the old -commands
    You can edit the icon for a game and add things like -windowmode for example to force the windows registry to open a game in a particular way, this might help with the sleep mode issues you have faced.
    There could be somthing to building a basic service or batch script to force the applications into a view mode.

    • @jamesgerber4658
      @jamesgerber4658 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah, the right device just isn't there yet. The base steamdeck gives up too much, the 512GB model is too expensive. The Ayaneo is too pricey for aging hardware. The OneXPlayer does it all right but is a bit too big and $1500+ (after tax/customs) is a PS5/Xbox S and quite a few games or a legit gaming laptop. Everything else is either too underpowered/ARM-based. Game streaming software will improve before gaming hardware cheapens to the point that an X-gen steamdeck will be worth getting as a stand alone device.

    • @gvulture1277
      @gvulture1277 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@jamesgerber4658 512gb model is too expensive? What world are you in? It's insanely cheap compared to the competition and what the device is, how much money went into developing and making the unit. Steam Deck is insanely kind with its price. The Steam Deck would be $1000+ if Valve wasn't rich and couldn't take the loss (which they will, Steam Deck will barely make them back any money).

    • @jamesgerber4658
      @jamesgerber4658 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@gvulture1277 something being lower in cost relative to similar products doesn't make something "cheap". It's a handheld gaming device. It doesn't serve a purpose outside of that. Yeah, it's competition is more expensive, as they are full windows machines and can do more than just game. It's more expensive than any modern console at release price. If it wasn't for the supply shortage of PS5s and XBox's, this wouldn't be getting the attention it is.

    • @ZambonieDude

      @@jamesgerber4658 512GB is too expensive.
      How? These aren’t units that will fly off the shelves it’s a niche portable
      computer that plays Modern games.
      How much do you think that should cost for RDNA2 Next-Gen console graphics, NVME storage, an anti-glare screen, good speakers, bluetooth, a reworked jowsticks?
      Regardless if you’re that cash strapped the base 64GB Steam Deck is fine because you can add storage from an SD card.
      So you’re talking nonsense right now.
      $699 for the maxed out, strongest handheld in the world is not alot, and if it is for you there are cheaper models you can add storage too.

    I own the OneXPlayer and it's a hit and miss, even for older titles because of the dodgy intel drivers. The size of the device is actually a positive to me personally, but it's all up to the person really. If the switch feels too small the OXP is probably a better feel. Aya Neo Pro in my opinion would have been a better choice overall. :(

  • @morid0
    @morid0 2 ปีที่แล้ว +13

    If you got the money sure, it's awesome, but steam deck is waaay better for the money you pay, it cost way less money, the basic model is only a fraction of what this device costs even the fancier version cost only half and it will probably perform the same since it will have faster ram, granted you got to wait till probably end of next year if u didn't pre order early so yeah if you can get that device right now and you got the money I agree it's worth it, if you are broke like me and can wait the steam deck is going to be much better value.

    • @jamesgerber4658
      @jamesgerber4658 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      The basic model only has 64GB of eMMC storage. You can barely fit 2 AAA games on the 256GB model, let alone a measly 64GB. The only one that makes sense is the 512GB model as you wont have to keep uninstalling games anytime you want to try something new. Even then, it's a handheld gaming device with a 60Hz 800p display.
      There isn't a Goldilocks device right now. If the SteamDeck has WIndows dual-boot, then it would make a lot more sense. But as a stand-alone device for purely gaming, I, personally, couldn't justify spending that much on a device.

    • @morid0
      @morid0 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@jamesgerber4658 you can buy an SD card of for the basic model, ppl that have tested it say loading time is nothing to dramatic, SD cards are not that expensive, also don't know if you can actually dual boot but it might be possible, for sure you can install windows tough, I think the price of the steam deck is the best you will get for the hardware, the display is also good enough for the size, you don't need or want 4k 144plus hz refresh rate for a handheld.
      For me the selling point is that is basically a mid range laptop that works like a Nintendo switch but I don't have to pay for my games all over again and I will actually own the hardware and can do with it whatever I want.
      Edit: I mentioned the 1tb sd card, it is actually quite expensive so I was wrong with that, but the 500gb and below are on a reasonable price and I think that's enough storage space to keep some AAA and tons of indie games, and can always just replace stuff you aren't playing anymore quite easy from your pc.

    • @03chrisv
      @03chrisv 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Totally agree. The Steam Deck is a far better value. Getting the base model with a good quality A2 class 512GB SD card will cost you around $470. The Aya Neo is a waste of money, the only way I could justify buying it is if it also doubled as my work PC when connected to a monitor, keyboard and mouse but at that point I'd probably just prefer an ultrabook. As a gaming device the Steam Deck is better optimized over the Aya Neo since it leverages RDNA 2 GPU architecture and quad channel LPDDR5 memory while also being much more affordable.

    • @morid0
      @morid0 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@03chrisv I agree, other than the novelty is not great value imo, like I mention if you got the money and love gadgets it is an awesome device and glad that exists, I would definitely buy it if I had the cash since whenever I want to play a game I only have time a bit before going to bed so being able to lay down and chill playing a bit before sleeping sounds great, but since I have limited resources it would be a complete waste of money on my personal case.
      No matter the version the steam deck you pick it provides much more value, even if for some weird reason you would like to use windows on it, it would still be better hardware for the amount of money you invest, I assume steam is keeping the profit margin quite tight so they can sell a lot and make it real popular and then get back their investment with the steam deck pro or some nonsense like that or maybe the accessories will cost a premium like the dock etc.

    Just install steam os in the aya neo or on an external drive and then try gaming on that. Since it has an and CPU compatibility with Linux should be fine.

      If you run emulators or minecraft java or any non steam games you will want to use windows.

    • @DaleonM4
      @DaleonM4 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@cosmicsvids java minecraft has a launcher in linux, all emulators that work on windows also does in linux because they are open source and libresoftware (except some of them but all console emulators work on linux too), all games that are windows native run under proton or wine (same as proton) the only problem is when u want to play games with anticheat. All multiplaer games run under proton and wine but they kick u out of multiplayer cuz anticheat is not compatible. Developers need to enebale that and it would be possible if steam deck is a success.
