Im loving how companies are developing actual portable PCs. But the prices are all over the place. steam deck starting at 400.... to some devices at 1600 for similar hardware .
yea, I imagine companies like aya are gonna burn themselves into the ground at this rate by releasing a new product with different variations every 7 months. With the release of the steam deck, there will be 0 reason to purchase these over $1k devices for seemingly worse performance then the deck, unless you just want a handheld now and don't wanna wait months in que for the deck.

@@mavfan1 Pretty sure it's "handheld" since it's more like a PSP/Switch than a laptop.
Honestly you're right, it's like you're paying much more for the luxury of having it in a handheld format since the actual hardware doesn't cost that much (though I guess messing with the parts to make them fit in a small size is costly but I'm not too sure about that).
Valve can afford selling the Steam Deck at a slight loss and return the investment in games sold on Steam, other companies cannot afford this and must make a profit.
maybe add yuzu emulation tests to these handheld reviews especially. otherwise, exceptional job on the videos as always
I'm guessing he didn't want to make device look bad since there's not much difference between a 5800 and a 4800u. Running tests with 30w TDP is a bit unrealistic when using the device as a portable handheld.

Thanks for the effort you put in the making of your videos. Will you be able to include moonlighting streaming benchmarks for decoding latency. Would be great to see different strengths of the hardware in terms of decoding latency
First I want to thank you for all the videos. I will probably not get any of these devices pricing as they are and seriously for me, it’s too much work and complicated to tweak everything to get them to run great or even decent. I could save my money and plunk it down on one of these but I would want it ready right out of the box. Put my roms in and go but unfortunately none of these systems seem to be capable of simply “plug and play” except maybe the Steam Deck. Maybe. But thank you again for all of your hard work. I know it is a labor of love and you don’t have to put in as much time as you do but I appreciate it. Have a great year and I will continue to watch. Who knows, I may find one of these devices that is right for me.

Very impressive but after already dropping $1k on the 4800U I'll have pass on this one and jump on the next one that comes with the 6800U. If the Next is a beast, the model that has the 6800U will be a Godzilla running these emulators without breaking a sweat. It's going to be an exciting new year with these new devices becoming available.
Yeah, I'm eagerly waiting for the RDNA2 APUs - they should offer a big gain in GPU performance

With the Pro model with 32GB RAM, it would make an interesting network for things like audio zone applications or running HQPlayer audio upscaling to someone's home speaker setup.

I love love love my Neo Retro! With the single complaint I have being the ergonomics. But the controller-like grip on the NEXT looks much more comfortable! Can you comment on that?
How does this compare to the one player mini? And also side note do you have a guide to setting up emulators and extra apps for this handheld mini pc’s? That would be super helpful!
This is very cool, but how about the termals ? i wonder if one can hold it while its at 80 degrees celsius ?!
ETA, I need specifically your help. I've had resolution issues using Redream on the Aya Neo when docked and I was hoping you could share how you found your way around it. redream opens on the neo itself but my external monitor freezes after opening it from steam. Windowed mode worked fine. Im also experiencing the exact same issue with Citra. Haven't seen anyone else get it working besides you.

@ALL HANDS ON STEAM DECK i have a q1 reservation. And yea I’ve heard the comments of the control layout being better than what they seem. But still seems bad. The Xbox/switch button layout .Is years better for me at least.

@@olefjord85 In my experience with Aya Neo 4500U, it hasn’t made any noticeable difference. If you study CPU % usage in task manager, it’ll probably be 1-2% higher. Not worth worrying about IMO. Plus, a lot of wallpaper engine ‘scenes’ have a controllable fps setting which you can turn down

Please try to make an emulation review on newer intel and amd laptops when they are available. I wanna see how they perform on with rpcs3. I am planning to buy new asus zephyrus g14 this year.

Hey when it comes to Xbox 360 emulation do you think that you can try running armored core for answer or armored core 4 those are my favorite games on the 360 / PS3 and I'd like you to try them out on this hardware you also won't have to worry about copyright problems

I totally feel the same but I ended up biting the bullet because I found out I had to wait for the steam deck until October or later so I figured I'd just get it since it really interested me, I was dying inside when I made the payment though 😅

Could you run a (preferably tolling release) Linux distro with Steam Big Picture mode and some emulators to make it more comparable to the Steam Deck running SteamOS? It would be interesting to see. how it performs that way.

@@toxicavenger6172 Right. For the starting $1,200 you can actually get a pretty decent gaming laptop that will play everything in 1080p not to mention have no issues using the Switch Emulator.
@@coryv5679 this thing is cool for sure but with rdna 2 Apu coming out this year or early next year there's no way I'd spend $1200 + on one of them. I bet the stock on these is extremely limited and it'll be on back order.

I love tris handhelds but for me are imposible to get sadly, im from Argentina we have to much taxes to get things outside of the country.
I bought a ps vita tho, u can play from the PC on the vita, and it actually plays prety Smoth, i think its the best handheld for what u pay for, i got mine for around $50, crazy and u have lots of games to play
On their webpage it says the AYANEO Next Advance is Base 1.9 GHz, Max 4.4 GHz with AMD Ryzen 7 5800U. Your specs said 2.0? The AYANEO Next Pro has Base 2.0 GHz, Max 4.5 GHz with AMD Ryzen 7 5825U. Would that boost in performance on the Pro model help with some of the issues you had or not really? I do like the shine on the Advance, but I might have to go for the Pro model in space silver.
And yes, I have a Steam Deck reserved. Why get this then, especially when I already have the amazing OneXPlayer? Because I can.

It's a very good device but imo it still can't beat the steam deck as the steam deck is WAY more affordable and worth the price
For sure, only a few companies could make something like the Steam deck and sell it at a lose like Microsoft, Valve and even Meta. They will make the money back on games. Unfortunately these smaller companies can’t compete

@@BastardOfTheNorth Of course it can. Is intended to play steam but by no means you are lock to steam. You are open to even install another system and just use it as every other computer.
You will have to buy a windows license, it has less storage, seems to be bigger and heavier and we will never know when it will be available given the demand... also many people may be disappointed if the performance is the same as this one. Waiting for Steam deck reviews and next Aya Neo with the updated AMD chips
@@VicV91 For your first point, I wont install windows on the steam deck. For the second point, 512 gigs of storage is enough for most of my games and I can just transfer the games I wont play to a sd card until I want to play them again.

Very good. Very hot. And since it's portable, not a big 47Whr battery. With a consumption of ~35W, it will not work for long.
