The Rise of the First Order Era of Star Wars Explained in Under a Minute

- The Rise of the First Order era begins twenty eight years after the Battle of Yavin, and takes us through to the Battle of Exegol seven years later. Although the New Republic survives the Imperial Remnant, they still struggle to remain united and free of corruption. The spirit of Emperor Palpatine lives on in a clone body. From a hidden Sith world in the Unknown Regions he orchestrates the rise of the First Order from the ashes of his Empire. Leia learns of the danger and creates a resistance prepared to fight while the New Republic turns a blind eye. But her son, Ben Solo, falls to the dark side after a huge misunderstanding with Luke Skywalker. He takes up the name Kylo Ren and joins the First Order. With a new superweapon they destroy the New Republic senate and take control of the galaxy for one year. Leia’s Resistance fights back with the help of Palpatine’s granddaughter, Rey, who learns to become a Jedi under both Luke and Leia. She and the Resistance help inspire the rest of the galaxy to stand against oppression and the dark side, defeating Darth Sidious, his forces, and the Sith Order once and for all. This part of the timeline is, of course, mostly made up of the sequel trilogy films and the animated series Star Wars Resistance. #starwars

This era is in desperate need of an animated series that actually features characters from the films and relates to them directly. I really hope we see it as Filoni's next major animated project after The Bad Batch
Quite honestly, this era needs to be left alone and we need to move on from it. It was a wasted opportunity with no plan. Filling in the gaps and using animated shows to justify sequel decisions is just beating a dead horse. Bad batch has addressed the "somehow Palpatine returned" well enough. Now we should leave it otherwise SW becomes stale
@@alexanderp7083I agree no one should have to be forced to watch a tv show just to understand 3 movies with bad writing and execution
@@alexanderp7083I disagree completely because every era in Star Wars should be explored in order to make better sense out of everything and saying you don’t want those era’s to make sense is like saying “ You don’t want a story to make sense at all ” I for one would rather a story that makes sense rather then a story that doesn’t.
The reason why the Sequels don’t make complete sense is because we got no back story about what happened in the last 30 years and filling in those gaps would help to make better sense of it.
Resistance was sorta achieving that goal but fell short in the end, really wish it had gotten a season 3
Tales of the empire was a let down for sure
Here's hopping for more stuff to come between TLJ and TROS to properly bridge the canon events. Like where was the Mon Cala fleet the resistance had? We need a proper explanation.
These movies are literally so broken narratively it will either be impossible or incredibly unsatisfying to do so
@@Hehe.3.This is blatantly untrue. We've just had decades to fill in the gaps and contradictions in the other trilogies, so it feels different here. They'll flesh it out too, and it'll be great.
@@livliveart despite all the retroactive improvements to the prequels I’d argue it’s still a largely bad trilogy, even the eu run up to the revival of the emperor wasn’t very good. Any story taking place after ROTJ with any darksiders while Luke is still alive completely ruins his and anakins arc that completed in ROTJ.
@@Hehe.3. There's nothing really broken narratively and I'm talking about the canon EU, not the movies(which are fine).
Resistance reborn is a good book for you!
Well here’s the thing, the first order itself was technically never “defeated” it was the sith order, so I’m really hoping remnants of the first order can become a new adversary whenever they decide to continue the sequel storyline, not repeating old plot points, but building a new first order threat that can feel fresh, like have first order stormtroopers but make them more threatening with a new supreme leader. One aspect I adored about the first order is how more cult-like it is in relation to previous military forces we see in Star Wars, Kylo Ren himself was like a desperate cultist trying to forge his own path, so I really hope that they can bring the first order back, flesh out their presence more, and truly win people over because it has so much potential to become a fully realized Empire.
That would be great. But we all know that no matter how good the sequel trilogy was everyone would still say it's the worst
The name Skywalker was legendary by the time of the sequels. Luke's journey was that of legends following the fall of the Empire. This was confirmed in TFA when Rey said "Luke Skywalker, i thought he was a myth." That's why I don't mind Rey taking the name Skywalker. It's the legend of the name Skywalker she's choosing to represent
whatever helps you sleep at night
@@sbaltys it does, i just have to remind myself every night b4 bed. But I'd be interested to psychoanalyze the ppl who have take a serious offense to it, as if she stole something from them. I find that mentality fascinating
@@kevinvassago just a dumb movie.
Never understood why people took that scene so literally in the first place as if she stole it. She knows how important the myth of the Skywalkers are and needed to keep it alive since Ben Solo died
@@hefoughtabear118 bro ty! I've never argued that it's a flawed or rushed movie, cuz I think even the ppl who enjoy it can admit that. But it makes sense for her to keep the legacy of Skywalker alive. In fact, I'd argue it would be disrespectful to Luke & Leia, who trained her, if she were to pretend like that wasn't a crucial part of her life, and to just ignore their legacy. It'd be kinda bs if she just wrote them off as unimportant
Love the sequel movies what an awesome story!
really? go watch some real lightsabers, writing, and story line and get back to me when your done.
@@Rouges_Reactionshow unhappy do you have to be to belittle someone for liking something, I enjoy the sequel trilogy as well, piss off.
@@Rouges_Reactionsreally? Get a life and let people have opinions and come to me when you're done
@@Spiralredd Bro yea people are allowed to have opinions but in all honestly they were reaaally terrible and there was no need to be rude about it chill💀
@@Rouges_Reactions well I'm tired of hearing hate. You could have just simply said I didn't like them and moved on with your life🙄
Love it. Say what you will, i love the new trilogy.
Hear hear. But we know that they could have constructed an absolute banger trilogy and the fans would have still tore it apart
Really criminally underrated and under appreciated era that deserves more in-era stories. The idea of a resurgent conquering force sweeping through the galaxy is really intriguing, and the movies IMO are really great and underrated. We just need more content to actually go into and explore the era (rather than JUST TEASING IT) and also show us the battles or adventures that took place with the new cast of heroes and villains.
Need more during this era, live action, animated, games, doesn't matter just give me something!
I hope that next year, the next big animated series surrounds the Sequel Trilogy Characters before the movies. The book "Before the Awakening" snd the Age of Resistance comics would be good to draw from.
I'm still waiting for Kylo Stimpy to make his appearance. Seriously though, how do you have a Kylo Ren without a Kylo Stimpy?
I loved the idea of a faction rising from the depths from the empire. Sadly the faction overall became a joke and just another empire clone without fixing the mistakes despite being still a fairly small faction.
Not true imo. The first order felt more ruthless and less civilized. They were less of a galactic government and more of a galactic dictatorship. The empire at least had some morals the first order didn't appear to have any
I hope thats the end for the sith order once and for all 😊
It is bad that this lore were not told in the Disney Star Wars movies
Bro thanks. Now i can send this to people that say the sequels don't have a coherent storyline
Somehow, even with the worst of Star Wars, Star Wars explained makes it sound like a good complete story in these videos.
Thats one of the things that makes it frustrating; when looked at as a whole with the basic list of things that happen, it doesnt look lacking per se. Just when you look deeper it all falls apart.
Worst? Where?
@@orbaitv5991 if you didn’t know, no one likes the sequel trilogy
@@myriadmediamusings Agreed.
@gideonsamuel7155 speak for yourself I liked the sequels so shut your mouth
Don't forget that Padme is sort of responsible for the Empire gaining power
First order are the shadow of former imperials and probably thrawn
definitely an era they hopefully explore more into in the future would like to se the 1 year the first order rule the galaxy and kylo as supreme leader
Imagine having no self control to start complaining about movies on a TH-cam short
That's star wars fans for you. I'm a firm believer Disney could have knocked the sequel trilogy out of the park and people would still tear it apart. And in my opinion they did a pretty good job I loved the sequels. Sure they weren't Perfect but no Star wars trilogy was
Somehow Palpatine returned.
Of all the things the new Canon had to get from Legends, why in all things Forceful did they have to bring back that aspect of Dark Empire.
@@myriadmediamusings And the sad thing is Legends still did it better.
Dark science, cloning, secrets only the Sith knew
It’s not as bad a line as people think.
Yeah and it was cool
👍
once and for all...... or is it?
For some reason you explaining it makes the era sound more interesting than it really is. Just execution of the movies were awful
Idc I loved them and I'm definitely not alone
New Republic not fighting the first order was one of worst choices ever.
Rey being palpatine's granddaughter should've been established as a palpatine in the beginning.
Ben Skywalker, Anakin solo,Jaina solo, darth talon , Darth Caedus, Kyle katarn, kyp durron, corran horn and mara jade being removed from the sequels was tragic.
“Defeating Darth Sidious, his forces and the Sith Order once and for all.” Well, until Disney changes their mind again
To think anyone made predictions Rey related to Sidious since TFA, is baffling
Very unfortunate with what we've gotten in this era. Im trying to not act like what we've gotten in Legends was infinitely bettrr, what with all the destruction, death and despair of the NJO saga, Dark Nest Trilogy, Legacy of the Force and Fate of the Jedi, they were at least interesting and different to varying degrees.
Except the sith are not gone forever they always will exist the dark side of the force is forever and any jedi can turn
The Sith are not the only dark side users and not every light side Force user is a Jedi either. So while the struggle between the light and the dark is eternal, it is no longer a fight between Jedi and Sith.
To be a sith u have to be trained to be one and there are no sith like to train people like him to be a jedi one has to be trained in the jedi arts
Nah, this stuff isn't canon.
Yeah it is cry about it
No, the Yuuzhan Vong War happened, it was the New Jedi Order series. There is no First Order
... In Ba Sing Se
Actually, none of it happened. It’s all made up.
That's not canon
@@da-vidcargill4975 Not with that attitude
The emperor is not dead. Rey killed him so his essence transferred into her
She didn't kill him in hatred. Also you can argue that he killed himself.
@@rigatenes338Yeah that's one of Palpatine's big issues with force lightning. It seems like he doesn't know he can just turn it off when it's being deflected back at him 😂. He did the same thing in RotS when Windu blocked his lightning back into his face and he just... kept doing it?
“After a huge misunderstanding” Jesus Christ your villain should never be the villain because of a misunderstanding.
Luke felt the dark-side in him and was going to execute him before he could fall but then realized doing so would turn him to the dark-side and is notndifferent then how he had the dark in him and chose the light. but you know seeing your uncle almost kill you you is supposed to be the closest to the light tends to make you get scared and run leading him to actually fall to dark-side for a bit
He chose to spare him cuz he was his nephew, he cared about him
Disney should have never touched Star Wars
Blame the fans cry more
