    That last Spit tried to follow you into a slow climb, which the British Air Ministry warned RAF pilots specifically not to do with the 109, not even with the Griffon engine. They're told to break off if you do that, gain superior speed and then re-engage but never to follow.
    You know if I was trying to compare you with which German ace your flying most resembles in the 109 I'd say Marsielle, with that aerial marksmanship of yours. Pretty high praise, he was the aces' ace, universally regarded within the Luftwaffe as the best pilot they ever had irrespective of kill numbers, but as a skill rating, or in terms of how many e/a he would routinely down on a single magazine load before running out of ammo. Everybody else would do numerous sorties downing a couple each that added up over a few days, whilst he'd take out six in one outing and still have half his magazine left on landing. Everybody recognised that was just on another level. So doesn't have the highest numbers before his death, but is regarded the best of all the aces.

      I praise even more Fonck, WW1 ace. His marksmanship skills were so high he didn't aim at ennemy planes but instead was capable to target specifics parts like engine or tail. He found out that the best was to aim for the ennemy pilot himself. One day he managed to shot down 6 bandits firing only 32 bullets. He was already using boom and zoom tactics in WW1 and managed to never get a single bullet in his airplane while scoring 75 confirmed victories (with a probable score above 100).

    Some good things to mention here.
    1) It's a good thing the Germans didn't have many of the K4's become operational.
    2) It's a good thing they didn't have them until very late in the war.
    3) And it's a good thing they didn't have many pilots of GS's caliber to fly the ones they did have, by the time the K4's became operational.
    I don't think it would have changed the outcome of the war if those things had been different, but it would have cost a lot more Allied lives.

    The Germans were the first to use nitrous oxide, N2O, to boost engine performance. The system was primarily focused on boosting high altitude performance where as the more commonly used water/methanol injection was used at low altitudes. If I recall correctly, they had a system that used cylinder of compressed N2O to boost horse power by up to 360 for several minutes to help in emergency situations. I have seen photos of K-class (51" tall 9" DIA) cylinders still in service with swastikas on them, although a lot of times more stamps are done to make it into a square with an cross inside it.
    Edit to fix NO2 to N2o

    • @vczs
      @vczs 3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      It's MW-50 for this aircraft (methanol-water) which helps with cooling and letting engine produce more power, GM-1 (nitrous) was used for very high altitude flights and if i remember correctly Kurfürsts didn't utilize it. TA-152H however uses that.

    The first engagement you had with that spit was very well done. Once his engine was down i think you should just had let him go he wasn't going to reach land at that altitude anyway so its a bit cruel to shoot him down like that since he still pulled a good fight. But i totally understand that you want the kill i have been in that situation myself. My father told me to always try to kill the plane not the pilot, that's why if can put the plane out of combat or the motor or even have him out of amo i will just wave him off and let him live by pure respect. :D

      It would ruin their preferred 'balance' so no, there's absolutely no chance of them adding it. I would personally love to see one of those monsters battle it out with a ME 262, but that's what IL2 is for. Honestly, I would rather have them spend the resources on trying to create even a vaguely realistic RADAR and AMRAAM simulation, although that also doesn't seem to be what they're balancing for, so I guess we'll get some more mediocre WW2 aircraft (which can't upset the 'meta') instead?

      Those WW2 piston engines where really sensitive, for example, the Spit engine did not like to prop hang at low speed, and you could not keep it at full power for a long period of time.
      Plenty of things to keep in mind, RPM, prop pitch, fuel mix, supercharger gears, radiator flaps (depending on different aircraft), that's why the pilots liked the FW-190, it has very streamlined engine management.

    Is there any concept of one-circle / two-circle fighting in the WW2 planes? I have been trying to apply two circle to the BF109 versus Spitfire and F4U (great turning aircraft) and getting smoked. My theory is that the planes are so slow (versus the modern jets I always watch you fly) that the two-circle arcs are so small, and the min radius fighter ends up winning. Just wanted to rewatch this video and learn a few things.
