Pika craft33 Really!!! And arjun yes I totally agree I was expected gohan to say "where the fuck where u" and trunks be like "u knocked me out" "yep that'll do it" or something like that
I kinda disagree on that. I think Eric Vale did an outstanding job of displaying Trunks' emotions in the official dub. Supported by the Bruce Faulconer soundtrack, that hit me in the feels a lot more!
Arjun Sivaram Between the two official ones, I liked the Funi soundtrack more, but the Japanese voicing more. For some reason the dub made Trunks a bit chatty - all "this isn't fair" and so on and so forth. The Japanese is a bit more reserved, just repeating "Gohan", but I feel TFS' take where he's silent right up til the end better portrays the state of schock Trunks would be in at that point. It's a matter of personal preference ultimately.
On a serious note, I really appreciate how TFS kept the gravity of the scene where Trunks finds Gohan dead. That was a HUGE emotional rollercoaster for me as a child. Even when this is an abridged series, they still managed to make it just as dramatic. This version of Trunks screaming gave me INTENSE chills.
TFS really made waves when it came to abridging. Most other Abridged Series would have made it either somewhat or completely comedic; but TFS knows when to use humor and when to be serious. They truly earned their spot as Abridging Legends alongside LittleKuriboh.
I just noticed, but Trunks saying "maybe I could build a raft" while Gohan shouts "Fly up" is a callback to Gohan saying "Maybe I can build a ladder" while stuck on that plateau from training with Piccolo.
"you remember a time before this, gohan. What was it like?" "well when I was a toddler my uncle showed up , kidnapped me and mr piccolo killed him and my dad. Then mr piccolo kidnapped me the saiyans showed up, killed a bunch of people including mr piccolo. Then we went to namek, a bunch more people died, we came back then my dad died again. Then all my friends died and now everyone else is dying" "but it was better right?" "...no"
15:52 That transformation scene, with the perfectly chosen music timed to the transitions and the flash of the red lights, it's pure fucking art man. Literally "the scene how you remember it".
Also, so much pain and anguish how the rain is sort of camouflaging his tears, tightening his fists drawing blood in rage! If TFS would've added thunder and lightning to this scene, it would have been the cherry on top... nonetheless, this is still the most heartfelt scene in all of DBZA!
"What can you do with only one arm?" Excellent foreshadowing by TFS. Because if you watch the epilogue, Trunks kills both Androids with ONE ARM. *Blows up 17 and 18 with one hand*
Yep! Imo this holds up so much better than the original OVA. Original had Trunks expressing his loss of Gohan with a guitar solo in the background. TFS take has a much better tone for the overall scene. Less words, just let the music and scene speak for itself.
@A J but it makes you cheered up when you get back in the original timeline... Because even though deaths often make a story good, in the end all of us as people have a inner desire for those we love to remain alive and not die... This desire aint random

“You’re right…what CAN I do with one arm? 😏” I like how in Xenoverse Future Gohan has the same fighting stance as Adult Gohan but his left arm just hangs down limp
I kinda wish dragonball would have been more grounded in reality, you know? Because the fights don't really feel all that serious. All anyone gets anymore is a bunch of scratches. I don't think we've even seen a broken bone since the cell saga! And nobody seems to ever have any mental scars from all the horrors of combat they have seen, especially Gohan since he has arguably suffered all his life. It think it would do a lot of good if they showed Gohan having an episode of ptsd from remembering cell, or after visiting new namek after repressing his memories for so long.
@@lotgc The Great Saiyaman is Gohan's way to overcome all the shit he had to live. He never had the chance to be a normal child. You know what makes Future Gohan more depressing? He can't do the 1 hand Kameahamaha because Goku never told him how good he was. For all the mocking Gohan does of his father... he still believes he's worse than him.
Exactly. The Time Chamber taught Gohan how much Goku loves him and saved their crumbling relationship. Here, Gohan never got to connect with his dad, so he only hates him and remembers him as a failure of a father
this is interessing in TFS, Gohan was the very first person to care about Krillin deeply and show that, as he was one of Gohan's only friends, Future Gohan(a Gohan that didn't go through most of the Father-Son bonding of cell saga) cares more about Krillin than Goku lol

there is no "emotional moment" there, cause goku died without warning. so he couldn't have passed on anything. gohan just grew up and used his dad's gi in the original cause he respected his dad. in the tfs version, they changed it so it fit the tfs continuity better.

Trunk's transformation gets me every time. The rain, the music, how his screams seem just out of reach as they're muffled out by the swelling music. You realize in this moment, he's truly alone. even the audience isn't right beside him as we normally are. We're just out of reach. Helpless as all we can do is watch him break, allowing him to finally push past the child he was for so long. A true work of art (edit: of course, I have to profusely thank the original material for making this idea in the first place. I just love this specific execution very much)
I legitimately sometimes come back just to watch that scene. Kaiser is an amazing voice actor and I would love to see him in some official English dubs as a professional in the craft. He has the talent for it and an incredibly unique voice.
"Will dinner bring my husband back?!" "I don't know! Maybe?!" I just imagine chichi making bacon wrapped muffins and holding them above goku's grave... And then goku just taking them and dragging them back into the grave.
I imagine him popping in with instant transmission and taking the bacon then leaving again. Technically he can do that, he's traveled to other world and back before. I don't understand why he didn't do that during buu saga.
Me: ooh 8 yrs ago? How did I miss this video? *In memory of Monty Oum* "Wow that's crazy I didn't realize they managed to put onions into videos that long ago" 😢
The Vegeta scream was PERFECT. Plays into the episode of Abridged during the Namek Saga, where Vegeta realizes Gohan stole the dragonball, and everyone can hear him scream, it pans to future Trunks who then hears Vegeta's scream. That was such an incredibly smart move to put that into this movie lol.
Wow, the scene where Trunks finally reaches SSJ was *really* well done. Kudos for stepping away from the comedy angle and showing your real love for the show. Yall's version is way better than the original.
I do appreciate that while they played most of this special for laughs, as they often do in this series, they played Trunks's Super Saiyan transformation without a hint of irony; they played it completely straight, which is fair, considering it is probably one of the most emotionally charged moments in the entire franchise, manga, anime, canon, or not. It's an incredibly impactful scene that deserves it's moment, and if you ask me, it is right at the top of "things the anime did better than the manga".
Duncan Van Ooyen I was thinking the same thing. The scene still makes me cry today (apparently as I cried😭), and I was glad they didn’t try to alter it to make it more humorous. They do seem to keep certain elements as they should be when they need to. Like how when 18 got absorbed by Cell, they didn’t make a joke of that either. Although it’s still hard for me when 17 gets absorbed😖, but he’s not quite as part of the main crew at that point. That is one of many things I love about TFS’s DBZ abridged, I feel like they do most things in such a good balance. They make things really funny, but they do so in a way that brings life to the characters that follows how the characters are in the original mostly. Except Mr. Popo, but in his case, they made him way more interesting and relevant😂 That was definitely the right call! This series feels like a legit series and I love it!!
The thing about Trunks, is that even if he isn't the strongest. The second. Or third. Hell, not even too ten. He has one of the greatest destinies of anyone. If it wasn't for him the story would have ended. Time and time again. He is literally Deux Ex Machina.
What Trunks did takes guts. Like, for real. Your only human interactions are with your mom and you leave her behind, knowing you might not be able to come back, just to save a timeline that is totally foreign to you. That's insane. Incredibly altruistic, but insane nonetheless. Can't imagine Bulma was feeling any better about it but hey, props to her for being so level-headed in such a shit-hit-the-fan-hard scenario. P.S. space-time continuum did get fucked lmao they had like what, 8 different androids instead of just two like holy shit.
@@alexsavastru8125 Trying to figure where things got different between the main line and Trunks's history is difficult, but I think Trunks slicing Freezer was a big kick, as it gave Dr. Gero Freezer's DNA to toss into Cell before he decided to go on a field trip with 19. Methinks most likely in Trunks's timeline Freezer and Co probably got disintegrated by the Z-Team so Gero stayed out of sight until Goku died. Pika craft33 Really!!!
And arjun yes I totally agree I was expected gohan to say "where the fuck where u" and trunks be like "u knocked me out" "yep that'll do it" or something like that
Not gonna lie, just did a comparison of this, the dub, and the original japanese, and I think this is one of those things that TFS directly improved.
I kinda disagree on that. I think Eric Vale did an outstanding job of displaying Trunks' emotions in the official dub. Supported by the Bruce Faulconer soundtrack, that hit me in the feels a lot more!
Arjun Sivaram
Between the two official ones, I liked the Funi soundtrack more, but the Japanese voicing more.
The continuity of TFS keeping vegeta's scream from namek is just beautiful.
I've seen this a thousand times and I only just realized that you can hear it in the background. Freaking brilliant

Although it’s still hard for me when 17 gets absorbed😖, but he’s not quite as part of the main crew at that point.

You don't have to be the strongest when you are brave enough to leave everything behind to give the world a second chance.
Then he set 17 and 18 loose because, as Mr. Satan's fans put it, fuck the world. And 16 just stayed in his capsule, dreaming of birds and killing Goku.
thankfully Super gave him the spot he deserved
@@samsonguy10k trunks going back and killing freezer couldn't have affected cell, since that timeline's cell died as a baby.
The cell that's giving everyone trouble is from another timeline where Goku died, everyone died, 17 and 18 destroyed a lot of humanity and Trunks went back in time, saved *an entirely other timeline,* came back, killed 17 and 18, and then got murdered by Cell when trying to go back to the timeline he saved to celebrate. Aand then that cell went to our timeline and did ehat he did.
Gohan: What could I do to the androids with one arm?
Piccolo: Use the makensaplanjdbdsgdksjdg
Gohan: Youuuu never taught me that-

Piccolo: Wait, if I'm not real, why can you hear Nail?
Popo: Hiiiiiiii.

Popo: oh hey kami, where did you put my cocaine?
Kami: I made french toast before I fused with piccolo and I thought it was sugar
he can use it in shin budokai 2 lel
I just realised. Future Gohan's death scene was eerily similar to Bardock's.
@clodsworth not to mention the facial scars
Bardock also doesn't really use his left arm either. He can move it but that's about the extent.
Well it pretty much the same, not to be mean, but there both fighting a unwinnable battle to try to protect the future

15:50 It's been 6 years since I first saw this...and gawd damn... It was a very powerful scene, more powerful than the original in my opinion. The Doomsday song definitely did it good and it is just hard to not forget how I first felt when I saw it...
The Japanese didn't have quite the right music and the English version rambled on too much this is the perfect balance
I know right
what's the song?

Hey, i came i little bit late, but do you know the song in 22:30 to?, i love that score but i dont know where to find it
"Will dinner bring my husband back?!"
"Maybe"
He's not wrong 😂
*POP* Chi-Chi! I heard dinner, and I came as fast as I could!
Maybe Goku would move the heavens to get a little chow I mean Goku has eaten 70 full course meals as a child ate all of Master Roshi food in the refrigerator then as a adult ate most of King Kai food then after coming out of the time chamber at a whole buffet then at the World Tournament ate a whole buffet again
Goku: did someone say dinner?!
Hoes mad
It depends on what ya cooking ;D
Gohan got the phrase "crapbaskets" from Krillin, trunks got it from Gohan and krillin commented "oh, you say that too?" When trunks says it.
yes
i thought it was a saiyan thing since even bardock says it
