@@hassanmehmood9627 escaping the asylum represents the freedom from their insanity. One jumps not problem (Batman) still a crazy thing to do but a risk he was willing to take.
The other (Joker) doesn't want to cross even with help from the other offer a brighter path. The other one thinks it's a trick or that the first will let him fall. He doesn't trust the first despite wanting the same freedom.
@@dbzcupcake I like to think that joker (the crazy one) doesn't just think it's a trick or that Batman will let him fall but that he could really rehabilitate him, and that scares him because of the comic where they give him a conscience and he goes crazy again because of guilt and regret. For how whack that killing joke movie turned out, that ending scene is perfect. The joker admits he is beyond saving and doesn't deserve any more chances. He gives one last joke that represents his relationship with batman: both are insane, but one is more logical than the other. Batman's laugh lingering longer than joker can be interpreted many different ways: he could have killed the joker right there, he could have given into the madness himself, he could have realized the humor in the futility of his mission. This is a great endpoint for the story of batman, as while not necessarily finishing any story, it provides a satisfying closure for the nearly century-long run of both characters.
Now the media cashes in on everyone else around them while their relationship continues dissolving into the abyss of change.
That's how I see it. Which is why it doesn't work that well imo as just another Joker story in continuity. It's commentary on the dynamic and unique. It's great, but I think it creates issues when it's in continuity or if it's used as the model Joker characterisation, when it is actually unique in many ways. I love the brief chinks of humanity we glimpse through Bollands art. He's drawn the most human of any Joker story up to that point. But it works because it is a rare, one off glimpse. Too much of that or extreme edge and cynicism is detrimental imo

And the joke is Joker won’t ever actually kill him, he’s too much fun.
I sort of feel like laughing at Joker’s terrible joke was like the only way he could think of helping him any more. Batman went for the heartfelt plea to basically “let me save you, let me rehabilitate you” and got rejected. But if you’ve ever watched Batman Beyond you know that like, trying to get Batman-Batman to laugh was maybe Joker’s deepest desire? To tell a joke so funny even the most serious and mysterious man alive, The Batman, can’t help but giggle at Joker’s cleverness? (Which Terry says is a lost cause because Bruce has no sense of humor.) Its a really great scene because Terry’s so mouthy right back at Joker and it really gets under Joker’s skin when Terry starts laughing AT him, but not at any of his jokes.

So the humor is that the hesitant one believes he could genuinely walk across the light if his friend shone it from his flashlight, but the only problem with that plan (in his eyes) is his distrust of the other escaped inmate-not that one cannot, in fact, walk across light like a bridge.
@𝓱𝓪𝓻𝓵𝓮𝔂 𝓺𝓾𝓮𝓮𝓷 I certainly know that the Joker loves Batman (he’s said as much several times in the comics), and while I don’t think Batman is gay, I do think there’s a special level of connection between the two of them that goes beyond the physical antagonism between the two. I think in some weird fucked up way, they’re more than friends without being friends.
I like the theory that after hearing the joke, Batman understands and accepts that neither of them can escape their madness, resolves that killing Joker is truly the only way to stop him, and strangles Joker there and then, hence why Jokers laugh cuts off.

I’ve always loved that scene where Joker makes Batman’s laugh, and there’s so much I could talk about, but the best thing is how Batman keeps laughing even when the Joker has stopped, which gives us three possibilities:
1. Joker is just staring at Bats while he takes the laughing overboard and it’s getting very awkward
2. Joker is just happy to look at Batman laughing and is staring at him with a big dumb gay grin
3. Joker laughed too hard and is now choking and wheezing while Batman laughs maniacally

Never saw it as Batman killing The Joker. Just two crazies having a human moment. Wouldn't make sense. This is the first time The Joker saw and heard Batman laughing so he kept quiet and enjoyed the moment. Despite everything that happened. It's like making your best friend laugh and enjoying seeing them smile.
Had Batman attempted to kill The Joker he would've laughing as well, knowing that he gave into insanity.

That doesn't make sense. And besides, Barbara Gordon became Oracle after these events and The Joker WAS still alive. So Batman didn't kill him. We would've seen or head a neck snap. There would be no need to keep Joker's murder ambiguous.
Plus, in the graphic novel we see the police lights. That would mean that Bat's would be arrested immediately after, when Gordon specifically told him to bring him to justice by the book. This is despite Gordon going through all that trauma with Barabara.

It's actually really weird, and yet so intriguing hearing the Joker go into a more deep and serious tone. Like even though he is beyond even the point of insanity, he is still definitely some human who is just bent out of shape and needs some way to validate his unhinged attitude. So just that ending of the Killing Joke where he and Bruce legit just... talk together for the moment is pretty bittersweet while it lasts.
