Ann and Nancy played Stairway to Heaven at the Kennedy Center Honors in tribute to Led Zeppelin. Ann made Robert Plant cry with her rendition. Heart is always tasteful and classy.
If you have not yet seen these gals do Stairway to Heaven at The Kennedy Center Honors for Led Zeppelin with JPJ, Robert and Jimmy in the audience and Jason Bonham on drums, I don't think you really need to ask what your next Heart reaction should be.
Anything from Dreamboat Annie would be a great pick for your next Heart selection. My favorites are Magic Man, Dog & The Butterfly, Dreamboat Annie, Crazy On You. Thanks you two for doing this great song & doing the audio version instead of the live. Don't know if you have ever heard this one before or not, but try their cover of Led Zeppelin Stairway To Heaven. They performed this live at the Kennedy Center Honors for Led Zeppelin's induction concert with Led Zeppelin in the audiance. It is not perfect like the original but they do it definate justice, & John Bonham's son Jason is on the drums for this performance. Stay safe & stay strong in this new year you two!
In the mid-70s I went to my 1st big city high-end stereo shop. I wanted to listen to MacIntosh electronics and speakers. The salesman smiled and put on Dreamboat Annie. Wonderful production values on that album. (Wonderful sound from Macintosh equipment also.)
That performance is breathtaking. They got a standing ovation not only from the audience but an enthusiastic one from Robert, Jimmy and John Paul as well.
They did that one on their 20k drunk reaction video. Look it up on the Videos part of their home page. Just click on the logo then videos and scroll down. Enjoy!!
If someone didn't already mention it - the guitar is run through a flanger pedal. The high "sparkly" sound is done by playing the string harmonics. The strings aren't pressed down, but they're lightly touched at specific points on the neck which cause them to harmonically resonate.
Thanks for starting my week off with a great pick and review. "Magic Man" is another ridiculously good song from them. It has harmonies that maybe only sisters cam maintain and some great lyrics too. You know from the lyrics it came from real experience.
Ann Wilson - lead vocals Nancy Wilson - acoustic guitar Roger Fisher - lead guitar Howard Leese - lead guitar; mellotron Steve Fossen - bass Michael DeRosier - drums
@@odemusvonkilhausen That unison vocal/guitar/bass riff in the chorus has more balls than a whole lot of music written by dudes. They've got to do the live version from California Jam II. They've GOT to.
I played in a band when I was a junior in high school, and the singer was a beautiful girl in college with a dynamite voice and an overall love dynamic. I was smitten. She sang "Barracuda" like a prescient goddess of undeniable beauty.
Got to see Nancy Wilson live a few months ago with her solo touring group, the Tripsitters, and believe you me -- in her mid 70s, she can ABSOLUTELY still belt it as great as she ever did. Killer show.
Nancy Wilson use to be married to Cameron Crowe the screenwriter/director/producer/etc, early on Crowe was a journalist for Rolling Stone, got to travel with Zeppelin, that experience bore fruit years later with the movie Almost Famous, which if you have not seen it is a simply fantastic movie that really captures the 70s rock n roll gestalt, sucks you in and makes you feel it. Magic Man is worth a listen, and there is live performances from back in the day of both Crazy on You and Barracuda that are worth a look if only for the chance to see these girls rocking out in their prime.
Was Cameron Crowe one of the journalists from Rolling Stone that always shat on whatever Zeppelin did? That would be interesting if true, since Nancy loved Zeppelin so much. And if he wasn’t, that’s also interesting, because every review I’ve read about Zeppelin during their run from Rolling Stone was negative.....and usually even venomous.
@@jrsieger Holy crap!! She was! I saw that movie when it came out. Knew Heart...have seen the movie a few times over the years, but never realized that was NW. Thanks for the knowledge drop.
That guitar 🎸 riff sounds like an angry Rhino 🦏 rushing along galloping. It’s just a stomping Rhythm! By Roger Fisher! And the main vocals by Ann Wilson with great backing vocals by Nancy Wilson. The music was made by Fisher and the lyrics were written by Ann. A perfect collaboration! A Great Hard Rock classic! I’m pleased you like it like millions of us fans do. 👏🏻🎸😎

Heart" at this time was not just Ann and Nancy Wilson. Heart was formed by brothers Mike and Roger Fisher along with Steve Fossen (rhythm guitar) in Seattle without the sisters. Ann was in love with Mike and when he left the US to live in Vancouver Canada to escape the Vietnam draft Ann joined him and Roger did as well. Steve came up later and Nancy joined the band much later. Nancy and Roger Fisher also became an item so the two sisters and two brothers were lovers at the time. There would have been no "Heart" and no rock hits without Mike and especially Roger. Roger - not Nancy - was the major guitar player and came up with the great riffs and played lead guitar for the rock hits they had. The great riff for this song was created by Roger - not Nancy - and of course Roger played lead guitar on the other songs as well. My friend Barry Samuels (a booking agent who also became Nick Gilder's manager) was the person Mike called with what was claimed to be the band's last dime for help as the band was going nowhere at the time. Barry gave them their first break and was responsible for their early success as a band. The members of Heart pretended they were Canadian even after they had a couple of hits like Magic Man (written about Mike Fisher by Ann) and Barracuda. They did this because of the "alleged" illegality of some of them being in Canada without immigration or work permits as well as benefiting from the "Canadian Content" rules for radio and television at the time. Ann and Nancy have dishonestly taken credit for the band's success and totally re-written history with their false and self serving narrative. You won't hear a peep from either of them about Roger or Mike or the early recordings and successes in Vancouver Canada that propelled them to stardom. Discussing the band "Heart" and their early rock hits without mentioning Roger Fisher does huge disservice to Roger and it is outrageous that Nancy tries to take credit for HIS amazing creativity and playing and so many people believe that lie.
Magic Man, Dreamboat Annie, Crazy on You and and Love Alive. By the way, I firmly believe Lzzy Hale from Hslestorm is Ann Wilson’s secret love child...she is the only woman who comes anywhere close to Ann’s power and range...and Halestorm has done covers of Heart songs and Lzzy kills the vocals (even Live)
Saw Heart just a few years ago, and they STILL rock! I asked my teenage daughter, who was at the concert with us, how old she though the sisters were. Answer: "30s?" They were in their 50s at the time.
@music-two-my-ears they get NO credit. If the rolls were reversed, the feminazis would have been marching in the streets at the sexism. Theres an oldie but goodie!😁
Ann Wilson: Lead Vocal Nancy Wilson: Acoustic Guitar Roger Fisher: Lead Guitar Howard Leese: Lead Guitar, Mellotron Michael Derosier: Drums Steve Fossen: Bass
Dreamboat Annie was huge back in the day, and classic rock stations (yes, remember radio?) still have it on their playlists. It's as classic as you can get.
I had the good fortune to have seen them play at my high school in, 12th Grade, 1974 in North Vancouver. Not only did they play their own songs masterfully, but covered Led Zeppelin and Yes songs incredibly.
I'd add in Sing Child. You get a nice Ann Wilson flute solo on the version from the Dreamboat Annie album. If you do the version from the Dreamboat Annie Live concert, you get Ann's flute solo, Nancy on harmonica, and also the Stockholm String section (plus you get to watch them).
Love alive is a great song. Really shows off Ann's vocals really well, and it just takes you on a journey. have you heard the demo version of it? awesome.

I'm looking forward to either Anne or Nancy seeing this and responding. It's about time that women in rock got the respect they've deserved. Giants. Legends. Take your pick for the adjective but Heart is right up there.
Great pick, quick note - everything you're loving about the guitar here is Roger Fisher, not Nancy Wilson. At this point Nancy only played acoustic, and despite the marketing at this point, Heart were very much a band. It wasn't until long after Roger was gone that it started to be more pushed as Ann and Nancy and a band.
I have seen Heart in concert several times and they always rocked as hard as anyone ever has. Definitely one of my favorites through the late 70's and 80's.

Magic Man or their full cover of Stairway to Heaven at Kennedy Center Honors in front of Robert Plant, Jimmy Paige, and John Paul Jones. Robert was moved to tears. Ann is in her 60s and her voice was still great. Heart used to open for Led Zep. Now you know why.
The original band lineup was musically perfect. Roger Fisher created some insane guitar riffs. Michael Derosier is one of my favorite drummers. Very “Bonzo”. Check out their cover of Rock and Roll from the Greatest Hits Live album.
Arguably Rocks greatest ever voice, Ann Wilson can still sing anything with incredible emotion, intensity and range. There are some huge names who will be blown off the stage by her gift even in 2021.
When it comes to Heart their early stuff from the 70's is their best tunes. Magic Man, Straight On, Crazy On You, & Dreamboat Annie are all Heart classics you couldn't go wrong with doing a reaction to.
Incredibly tight band. If you noticed the guitar solo, it’s almost entirely made up of harmonics and whammy bar. I saw them in 1977 promoting this record. They opened with Dream of the Archer standing around a real Bon fire.🔥
The electric guitar was Roger Fisher (main lead) and Howard Leese (rhythm and second lead, synths). Nancy Wilson played rhythm acoustic guitar (she also played some electric guitar and mandolin on other tracks). Ann Wilson was killing the vocals. Michael DeRosier on drums and Steve Fossen on bass round out the line up.
I remember an interview where Nancy said that the drum track was Achilles Last Stand. I have listened to both songs and it doesn't sync to me either. But I do remember her saying it. Could be done at a different speed but I still can't match the drums either.
"Porpoise" is Ann's Nickname for Nancy. "The porpoise said dive down, deep down, deeper than you". This is a quintessential "get mad, and, get even" situations. Saw them in '79

This brings me back to March 1978, when I saw them live in concert in El Paso (that was a great time for concerts in El Paso, when the bands headed to California Jam II stopped off in El Paso first). Great song and a great reaction.
Awesome! You finally got to Heart! Lots of splendid goodness here... Heartless, Straight On, Love Alive, Mistral Wind, Dog & Butterfly, Even It Up, etc. etc. etc. Enjoy and dive deep!
Yes, this song is about perfect. The one thing you left out is the timing stuff, with unexpectedly timed entrances. Like the ending being a cycle of seven beats repeated. That constant element of surprise really helps an already killer song. And how driving the beat of the ending is with those syncopated stops, turning it up from something you didn’t think could be turned up.
Used to listen to this a lot back in the day. Although the next song, Love Alive, is very different, it is good too. In fact, after Barracuda, the next three songs on this album are outstanding. I used to listen to those four songs over and over and over again. Heart toured in 2019 calling it their "Love Alive" tour. We saw them on this tour, and it was great.

Saw them live in '78 on the Dog and Butterfly tour - fantastic show!
"Dog and Butterfly" is an amazing song.
No you are not
No. you are not!
I saw them on the "Midnight Special" back in the 70's. After their set, I got in my car and bought the old Vinal copy. Wore it out too...
Hard rock and powerful, crystal clear vocals. What else could you possibly desire?
S tier.
Clear vocals? Up until today I had no idea what they were saying except for “and when the real thing don’t do the trick you better make up something quick“
They actually did that one, it's in one of their drunk reactions. Definitely check it out, it's one of their best videos.
This was BEYOND awesome. Ck it out....
Yessssss- with the video- WATCH and listen!
God, I love Nancy’s acoustic intro to “Crazy On You”
That performance is breathtaking. They got a standing ovation not only from the audience but an enthusiastic one from Robert, Jimmy and John Paul as well.
They did that one on their 20k drunk reaction video. Look it up on the Videos part of their home page. Just click on the logo then videos and scroll down. Enjoy!!
I'm 56 , AND THIS STILL NEVER GETS OLD!!!!
Ann Wilson - lead vocals
Nancy Wilson - acoustic guitar
Roger Fisher - lead guitar
Howard Leese - lead guitar; mellotron
Steve Fossen - bass
Michael DeRosier - drums
What a FREAKING BAND! Too bad the gals destroyed it. Heart wasn't Heart after that. Even the sisters were unhappy about their 80s stuff.
Heart - Heartless, Straight On, Little Queen, Alone, These Dreams
Add Crazy On You
@@michaelbaucom4019 They did it a while ago
"Little Queen" is hot hot fire.
Little Queen is so much better than most of the "radio hits" that most people suggest.
I saw them in concert Summer 2019 with my 25 year old daughter. Joan Jett opened. They DID play Stairway to Heaven. Was a great show!!!!
I
I saw that tour as well. They were amazing.
Greatest female voice in rock...chills baby!
@@w.geoffreyspaulding6588 Here you go: www.rollingstone.com/music/music-news/the-durable-led-zeppelin-36209/
Nancy appeared in Fast Times at Ridgemont High which Crowe wrote. She was the hot girl in the car laughing at Brad in the pirate outfit.
@@jrsieger Holy crap!! She was! I saw that movie when it came out. Knew Heart...have seen the movie a few times over the years, but never realized that was NW. Thanks for the knowledge drop.
saw Heart in concert a few years ago and Ann can still hit those high notes and Nancy can still play the heck out of the guitar!!!
👏🏻🎸😎
Ann and Nancy Wilson and their Band know how to "Kick It Out".(check out that song, next)...Knew you would love it, thanks for your reaction...I've met some Barracuda's in my day... this song exemplifies tough, talented Women!!💜
Finally looping back to some HEART!! We loved getting to really give this track a listen! Where do we go next with them?! 🙌🏻🔥
Please react to "Magic Man"!
Magic Man, probably my favorite Ann Wilson vocal.
Anne Wilson has a clarion voice. So good.
Andy and Alex
Deep Purple's Fireball review
Is now overdue
(January is Haiku month, isn’t it? At least I got the memo.)
Roger Fisher's guitar work is so tasteful on this track.
Everything he plays is so well placed and perfect!
Saw Heart just a few years ago, and they STILL rock! I asked my teenage daughter, who was at the concert with us, how old she though the sisters were. Answer: "30s?" They were in their 50s at the time.
70's now.
@@MsWarriordiva Yes, and my "teenage daughter" is now 30
I often use this as one of my examples of how to record drums. They are crisp AF on this track and balanced to perfection.
Roger Fischer on lead guitar. Nancy is a badass player as well. Go with “Magic Man” next!
Nancy played acoustic guitar and sang backup. Roger Fisher is the guitar wizard here. Howard Leese played keyboards and rhythm guitar.
A guitar wizard indeed he was!!
@music-two-my-ears they get NO credit. If the rolls were reversed, the feminazis would have been marching in the streets at the sexism. Theres an oldie but goodie!😁
Ann Wilson: Lead Vocal
Nancy Wilson: Acoustic Guitar
Roger Fisher: Lead Guitar
Howard Leese: Lead Guitar, Mellotron
Michael Derosier: Drums
Steve Fossen: Bass
"Dreamboat Annie" and "Dog and Butterfly are quieter sauce from Heart.
Dreamboat Annie was huge back in the day, and classic rock stations (yes, remember radio?) still have it on their playlists. It's as classic as you can get.
Im 57 and still prefer alittle. ... Violence in my music but...i love dog n butterfly ect. I play that on a loop. Lol
I had the good fortune to have seen them play at my high school in, 12th Grade, 1974 in North Vancouver. Not only did they play their own songs masterfully, but covered Led Zeppelin and Yes songs incredibly.
Ladies & Gents, this is why Rock’n’Roll needs more female rockers.
Luckily, we've always had them.
NANCY IS greate for a girl but She is extremly limited with a guitar.
@@kenperk9854 🤣
Saw them in concert in the late 70’s, about 3 rows back from the stage. OMG- just fantastic. Plus they were both hot looking back then!!!
Saw them round about '79. Opening act was the Ian Hunter/Mick Ronson band. Awesome show from beginning to end. Ann is even better live.
Straight on or Kick it Out...So many good ones
Next songs by Heart: 'Love Alive' and 'Mistral Wind'.
"Love Alive" has been sorely underrated. It is really a great song, but . . .
And "Kick It Out"!
Love alive is a great song. Really shows off Ann's vocals really well, and it just takes you on a journey. have you heard the demo version of it? awesome.
Hey guys I'm A 54 year old man you've really brought back so many memories of my life with songs I love how you guys are great friends stay that way!!!!! No matter what I lost touch with my friend I grew up with over the last year I've lost family my house and my dog a black lab I had for 14 years in the same week I lost so much and watching you guys I'm so happy to see a friendship that's real thanks for what you do my name is Rick I live in Pittsburgh PA
Their "S" song is definitely "Magic Man", with "Straight On to You" a close second.
Magic Man is totally sick.
Dog and Butterfly is a super cool chill song.
Crazy on You and Barracuda are the best in my opinion
Both part of my top 10 favourite all time songs
Everyone forgets " Even it Up" by these guys (girls).
YESSSS! Great song!
And, she DID...PLAY...on that one! Better than some men, imho.
ALL ELECTRIC GUITARS are played By the guys in the band. Nancy was good on acoustics.
Magic Man _ Banger
Dog and Butterfly_ Mellow
Crazy on You _ Banger
Little Queen - Banger
How can I Refuse_ Mellow
So true. People always think Heart is a girl band. They also think Nancy plays all the guitar parts. Wrong and Wrong!!
I have seen Heart in concert several times and they always rocked as hard as anyone ever has. Definitely one of my favorites through the late 70's and 80's.
Awwwwww yeahhhh, Badasss women of rock!!! Watch Heart live, you will love it. Spot on Andy, the best songs come from strong emotions. These women paved the way, I'm so happy you're listening. There are so many gems by these beauties. Close your eyes and pick any one, brilliance. Heart, Suzi Quatro, Pat Benatar, Joan Jett, Lita Ford, Carly Simon, Carole King, Stevie Nicks, stellar badass women of rock
Magic man. The jam for sure!
They did Heart Stairway to Heaven about a year ago under Drunk Reactions! George Thorogood / Heart / Focus and Tool check it out!
@@sfcub-Bill thanks!
Magic Man is a must!
"Dream bot Annie". Only a minute long, one of the most beautiful little things you will ever hear.
That groove is highly syncopated....that kind of sound is a dopamine release to me.
That's a great way to describe what this song does. A dopamine release!
The original band lineup was musically perfect. Roger Fisher created some insane guitar riffs. Michael Derosier is one of my favorite drummers. Very “Bonzo”. Check out their cover of Rock and Roll from the Greatest Hits Live album.
I hear he was the pacesetter for them. They had to keep up! He's killing it here!
@@marybethmcknightpotts6049 very much so.
Nancy does not get the credit she deserves hands down best quitarist
I have seen them on concert and Nancy is a awesome guitarist!
Not that difficult parts. Its the showbiz.
Ani DiFranco belongs in that conversation.
REO Roll with the changes please.
The live version.
Live version of Ridin the Storm Out is one of their best.
Also one of my favorite album titles of all time...
You can tune piano but you can't tuna fish, great lp
@@sharky6128 That whole album is outstanding. It takes me to that happy place.
Agree 100%
Arguably Rocks greatest ever voice, Ann Wilson can still sing anything with incredible emotion, intensity and range. There are some huge names who will be blown off the stage by her gift even in 2021.
When it comes to Heart their early stuff from the 70's is their best tunes. Magic Man, Straight On, Crazy On You, & Dreamboat Annie are all Heart classics you couldn't go wrong with doing a reaction to.
Incredibly tight band. If you noticed the guitar solo, it’s almost
entirely made up of harmonics and whammy bar. I saw them in
1977 promoting this record. They opened with Dream of the Archer
standing around a real Bon fire.🔥
Saw Heart a few years ago, amazing show. The encore? 15 minutes of Led Zepplin covers. Yes, they still rock so hard.
God, loved this when I was a kid.
Not as known but off that album
" Keep Your Love Alive". Such a great track! Not sure why it wasn't a hit.
The amazing this is that Ann Wilson is still able to belt this song out like she did back then in the same key!
"Love Alive" and "Mistral Wind" are Heart masterpieces.
Love Alive is a real gem.
"It felt like Zeppelin drums..." Never made that connection before after a MILLION listens; cool observation Alex totally spot on!
I remember an interview where Nancy said that the drum track was Achilles Last Stand. I have listened to both songs and it doesn't sync to me either. But I do remember her saying it. Could be done at a different speed but I still can't match the drums either.
I heard a story from way back that this was the bands homage to led zeppelin
"Porpoise" is Ann's Nickname for Nancy. "The porpoise said dive down, deep down, deeper than you". This is a quintessential "get mad, and, get even" situations. Saw them in '79
So jealous that you saw them in '79 and I never had the pleasure!
@@quarterfriedwithdirtyrice8108 "The Day Of Rock And Roll" in New Orleans that year also included Boston, Van Halen, Blue Oyster Cult, and Nazareth, with Sammy Hagar, and TKO as well. a 12 hour concert.
@@michaelyork4554 OMG now you are just rubbing salt into the wound! 😢 Not only did I miss out on seeing all of those amazing bands but I've never even been to New Orleans! I've always wanted to visit to experience the legendary people, music, and food scene but have never managed to make it happen (yet). Now I'm even more jealous...❤
@@quarterfriedwithdirtyrice8108 I have seen many other bands as well, I was supposed to see Zeppelin, but they cancelled when Robert Plant's Son died, and I was set to see Pink Floyd on the Animals Tour and they cancelled. I haven't been to New Orleans in years, but I imagine it's mostly shut down now, I don't know if there will ever be another Mardi Gras Parade or not.
I don’t want to be a jerk but the actual lyrics are “the porpoise said dive down deep to save my head, you.....I think that you got the blues...to.... Regardless, Ann & Nancy are masters of their craft and A & A can do no wrong showcasing all of their music!
Total agreement with Magic Man , Straight On but I love the song “Heartless
"Heartless" strays into jazz-blues and it is a TRIIIIIP!
The great Roger Fisher on guitar. He plays with his own group and is incredible as ever!
The look on your faces at 5:25!
That is the way we felt the first time we heard this back when the song first came out
Magic Man if you havent done it yet.
Thanks for listening to Barracuda! As many people below mentioned, Magic Man is a great one to do next and Even It Up is a kick ass rocker
Ohhh yessss!! BANGER! Thanks for this one guys! 🙌🔥🔥
I saw them in 86...and when they started this song the place really started thumpin!

"Dog And Butterfly" A must!
"Magic Man" A banger!

"Straight On" my favorite banger from Heart
I saw Heart in 1981...along with Ian Hunter. Best Concert ever, from both groups.
I saw Heart in concert in 1977 when I was 15. They opened for Yes, but Heart completely stole the show!
Anyone notice the album over Alex’s left shoulder? It’s Mr Young? Is there more NY in our future? Full album listen? I’m filled with hope. 😁
Me too!
If they want another song that was written on the spur of the moment, they should do Ohio. He wrote it, and it was released within a few weeks of the Kent State shootings.
Ohio and Southern Man from the live 4 Way Street album. Old school fantastic jam.
Another great female singer is Chrissy Hynde from The Pretenders. Middle of the Road is a kick-ass track.
This song is a "full package banger".
And timeless. Don't get a speeding ticket with this one.... y'all!! Haha. Great tune!!
