This is the band at their apex. Kickass. Not just the guitars (Roger Fisher) but listen to that voice. That stage presence. The drumming.

I love the Wilson sisters. Anne slept with half of the band and Nancy slept with the other half. Even Stevie Nicks was impressed.

@joebagodonuts8119 - Look for the band Fanny live performances & then come back & say the same. Many amazing female singers who got thrown by the wayside because of misogyny. E.g., look up what this song is really about & what was done to the Wilson sisters.
The talent on that stage is mind-blowing. A moment in time when everything falls in place just perfectly and a rock staple is born.
Yep, the original Heart band, but the real talent on that stage was Roger Fisher, the lead guitarist, he's the one who came up with all those famous riffs on Barracuda, Crazy On You, Magic Man etc.. Notice how back then Nancy was just an acoustic strummer. When Roger broke up with Nancy and quit the band in 1979 they were never the same again, but those early albums and songs with him kept their legacy alive until this day. In recent years Nancy plays electric guitar and likes to mimic what Roger played but does it poorly compared to him, i've also seen interviews where she does revisionist history and talks about creating those riffs herself, which of course she didn't.

A riff is not a song and Ann was only writing lyrics most of the time. Nancy wrote the melody and bridge of Barracuda and Michael Derosier has stated "she added tons to it". There would be no Crazy On You for Roger to add his little riff to if she hadn't written the song in the first place. And he did not come up with the riff on Magic Man, or plenty of other rock songs like Heartless, Straight On, Devil Delight, White Lightning and Wine. They were a cover band before Nancy joined, and immediately after getting kicked out BY THE WHOLE BAND because they were sick of his attitude and violent outbursts, Roger went back to playing covers in bars. Ann and Nancy continued writing good songs to this day while he's stuck recycling riffs in aimless songs and copying Jimmy Page. Regardless of commercial success.

About thirty years ago, I was a volunteer for the city of Woodinville for their 4th of July and Christmas celebrations. At the end of the year, the Parks and Recreation Department held a party for all of the volunteers. The head of the Parks and Recreation Department went to high school with Roger Fisher, the guitarist for Heart, and he invited him to come perform at our party. He showed up and played an acoustic set of Heart songs and old rock and roll. Afterwards, he went around to every table and took the time to talk to us. He seemed genuinely interested in what events we had worked on. A down to earth person.

The one and only Ann Wilson. I always forget how absolutely beautiful she was. Model beautiful.
Still is
Heart was original and they were a great band. They held their own in an era dominated by all-male super groups. Their music holds up today and will forever.
I know we can't stay 20 forever but how gorgeous both they were, especially Ann at that period.
Gather ‘round young whippersnappers…this is how we used to break bands nationally in the U.S. back in 1977. We didn’t have no Google machines or BookChat or InstaFace or any of that…if you wanted your band to have a national profile you got on Midnight Special. Heart is absolutely going for it here, recognizing the significance of the moment and just burning down the stage.
And here in 2024, after nearly 50 years, this is still the level you get from them. Like all great bands Heart knows it’s about the music and the fans and bringing a workwoman approach each and every night because this might be a fan’s only time seeing them and they don’t want anyone leaving disappointed. Thank you, Heart and we will always love you!

@@1969EType I don't think so. Go look at the artists that were on each show. There were artists/bands that were on DKRC that were never on TMS that were huge. Just from a quick glimpse. Pat Benatar, Bad Company, Bachman-Turner Overdrive, Black Sabbath, Blue Öyster Cult, Emerson, Lake & Palmer, Rush...the list goes on and on.

1977 was just 13 , can remember midnights on Saturdays was fun and exciting waiting for the Midnight Special to see who was performing and my first live view of these talented ladies and had just gotten their first to cassettes that year and fell in Love with Heart was blessed to see them Live at Mud Island Music Festival in Memphis in 1988, Get Well soon Ann all our thoughts and prayers are with you and your recovery

Real deal live performance on national TV, and the band is f-ing TIGHT. Unbelievable. I remember so well, driving in my car in graduate school and I heard Magic Man for the first time. I stopped the car in the parking lot and just drank it in, wondering WHO THE HELL is this band??
Wow!... Anne. Wow! Teenage me was a huge heart Fan in the late 70s and early 80s, but they never came anywhere near my small town, and I never saw any of these videos on TV. Seeing it now I'm even more blown away. This is so real and amazing, and she is just so naturally beautiful. Such a distance from the overproduced plastic product we get now.

I saw Heart back around this time. Great band. I've seen them a few times since in Seattle. That first time was special.
Saw them twice at the Commack Arena. STYX J.Giles and B.O.C. Awesome memories. Also saw them at the Nassau Colessium opening for Leslie West and KISS New Years eve 1977.
Just WOW! Ann's voice and stage performance is one of a kind, but in this song the guitar solo at the end is just mesmerizing. Despite the poor video and horrible lightning, Great stuff!!

I remember watching this, I was 15 and never missed The Midnight Special, great memories.
I saw them live in Frankfurt Germany about the same time. Heart was the warmup for Nazaret but it wasn't publicly advertised. The audience didn't want to let Heart off of the stage and Nazareth was a bit of a let down. True story.

I was only seven years old when this came out but Barracuda has always been one of my favorite songs and Ann Wilson has always been one of my favorite female vocalists.
I love the Midnight Special, cause they put on so many amazing groups. I couldn't wait to watch and see who they were going to have on. Midnight Special was just simply the best.

I’ve seen Heart three times starting in ‘78 and again in 2013, their encore consisted of several greats from Led Zep! These gorgeous ladies kick some rock n roll butt! I still have my “Dog and Butterfly” album~ bought my freshman year of college. They’ve got some mighty hunky looking and talented men to back them! Kick it Out Ladies!!! 💜🩵💖💛💚
One of the greatest things about heart was they would perform at very small venues and fairs. I saw them at The Kegger outside of Missoula, Montana in 1976. It was insanely good, Heart was far and away the best performance.

I was 14 and just got into skateboarding and KISS was my favorite band. Judas Priest, Thin Lizzy then Van Halen a year or 2 later. Heart was definitely on the 8 track cruising around town with my buddies too.
Iconic rhythm lick! Totally bad ass! The drumming on those first few albums, inspired my playing! Heart used to cover a lot of Zepplin, and you can hear it in their songs and their performances! Mushroom records, forever!🎊

Wow! Heart was my first real concert when I was 15. We were by the stage when Howard Leese handed me a red guitar pick which i still have. So cool! -- Last year, I saw the band Heart by Heart and met Steve Fossen and Michael Derosier. Great memories and super sweet guys. -- If I could sing like anyone in the world, it would be like Ann. She's the BEST woman singer EVER in my book!
