Young dudes....Heart is one of the most iconic rock bands that started in my hometown of Bothell, Washington. Such incredible energy, talent and drive. Ann Wilson, one of the greatest rock vocalist of all time. Nancy, her sister an amazing guitarist. And every band member, talented enough to have their own band! This band blows away ANY band today. This is true talent.

Their story is so interesting. From Heart’s Wikipedia article:
“Mike Fisher, Roger's brother, was set to be drafted into the army. Nancy Wilson has stated that when he did not report for duty, his home was raided, he slipped out a rear window, escaped to Canada, and became a Vietnam War "draft dodger". One day in 1972 (or 1971), Mike crossed the border to visit family, and by chance met Ann at a Hocus Pocus (or White Heart) show. According to Nancy, that meeting was "when she and Michael fell in love" and Ann decided to follow Mike back to Canada. Steve Fossen finished his college education before he also decided to move to Canada in late 1972, and Roger followed in late 1972 or early 1973. Along with Ann, Brian Johnstone (drums), and John Hannah (keyboards), the band Heart was officially formed. Ann's sister Nancy Wilson joined in 1974, and soon after became romantically involved with Roger. The group played numerous shows around their new home in Vancouver, and they recorded a demo tape with the assistance of producer Mike Flicker and session-guitarist and keyboard player, Howard Leese. Hannah and Johnstone had left by this time, and soon after Leese became a full-time member. Flicker produced the band's first five albums. This team recorded the debut album, Dreamboat Annie, at Can-Base Studios in Vancouver (later known as Mushroom Studios)”

Gentlemen, the Ann, and Nancy Wilson sisters have been rocking the stage since the early 70s. Ann with her power house voice, and Nancy with her amazing guitar playing, and beautiful melodic sounding voice that completely enhances many of Hearts songs. They began when disco was mainstream and female rockers were just unheard of. They paved the way for many other female artists , and this is just one of the many reasons why they were inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame.

Neighbors and friends were invited to a campfire sing-a-long with Ann and Nancy and Howard (guitarist) in her backyard on the lake. Just sang Beatle songs and Carpenters and Motown and oldies and such. Sat next to her (lucky me, Howard asked if I knew basic guitar... duh), and her freakin' voice MOVED MY HAIR !!! (A possible cause of my now baldness.) Have since met them many times, and have recorded many of their shows. (They let me WAY up front, or for perfect zooms). @TC NY The Fisher brothers, Mike and Roger started the band in Canada in the 60’s along with Steve Fossen. When Anne came around she became the lead singer and Mike went offstage to manage the band and was Anne’s boyfriend . Most of her love songs were about him. Roger was the “underrated “lead guitar player. Nancy joined the band in 74 and the two sisters came to define the look of the band. Roger fell in love with Nancy and these two couples were the bands center as they rose in success. When Roger and Nancy began to break up, he kind of “went crazy on her” with jealousy but it was his frequent dips into the population that were the cause of the breakup. Add in all the extracurricular stuff that went on with successful rock bands in the late 70’s and Roger ended up kicked out and mostly replaced with 2nd guitar player Howard Leese, another underrated player.

    My favorite classic Heart tunes:
    Magic Man
    Barracuda
    Love Alive
Dog and Butterfly (not a banger, but still a great song)
Anne Wilson is the singer. Her sister Nancy played the acoustic guitar; she also plays rhythm electric. Heart's lead player back then was a guy named Roger Fisher. You should know that there was a huge change in the band's sound in the 1980s. They were losing audience, and switched to a much, much more radio pop sound (with outside songwriters). Some people like tunes from that era, but for Heart bangers, the 70s are the shit. If you're looking for other killer women performers from that era, Pat Benatar is at the top of my list.

Ok, now you've watch and enjoyed this, you REALLY need to to react to "Heart - Stairway to heaven at the Kennedy Honors"
They are honoring Led Zeppelin who are being inducted to the Kennedy honor hall of fame.
(the following are not my words, but when worded so perfectly, you have to share)
In that clip, you see Rock legends, playing for rock gods, to honor their rock godliness.
And noone, could've pulled of, what Ann and Nancy Wilson gave us, that very, very special evening.
A few tips upfront (they will make sense, once you seen the video)
Bowler hats have a deep meaning, John Bonham used to wear them.
Jason Bonham, the son of, plays the drums.
Robert Plant, notoriously known to hate it when people sing their music, broke into tears and complimented Ann in person, after the show. (this is a HUGE deal, if you know Robert Plant a bit)
Ann Wilson was 62 when she sang this for them, and she showed all the other singers, who sang prior to her, how to actually do it.
These are the tips, and reasons to watch that amazing performance, no excuses, the Kennedy Honors are on your "to-do-list" now :P

Now check out Magic Man and Barracuda.
And yes, definitely quintessential '70s classic rock. Those three songs were everywhere on the radio.

Anne Wilson joined Heart in 72 and Nancy joined in 74. The band had just dodged the draft and moved from Seattle to Vancouver BC. Got to see them in concert at my high school. Dreamboat Annie was their debut album.

However, I do think it's understandable to consider Ann and Nancy to be Heart. They've always been the representative faces of the band, and are the longest remaining members. Of course, even though Ann and Nancy are such a prominent duo, the other members who have come and gone throughout the band's career also deserve recognition, and credit for their contributions. :)

These Dreams would not have sounded right if it was sung by Stevie Nicks. no knock against Stevie Nicks its just that when i think of the song These Dreams , Nancy Wilsons voice is perfect for and meant for that song

They have 2 Female fronting the band but not all female Vixen is an all female band you should hear "Love is a Killer" by Vixen other huge songs by Heart are Barracuda,Little Queen,Magic Man, and their cover of Led Zeppelin's Stairway to Heaven.

Heart isn't all female, more like female lead. Nancy aka the acoustic guitar player and Ann Wilson aka the singer are the only ladies in the band. They are both in their 60s and still sound that good. If you want more ladies in rock, check out Joan Jett, Pat Benatar,Janis Joplin or Lita Ford.
