I would love to be able to have this XTS 5000 model 3 program for my local sheriff's department.Just to listen also I would like to have the weather band I got this off of ebay and I wish I could listen to my local sheriff
You will need the Astro25 CPS to program your XTS5000. As long as they are conventional p25 or Analog and your XTS5000 is the correct frequency band, you will be able to listen. NOAA Weather Radio operates in the VHF band, so if your sheriff office and xts is VHF, you are all good.
@@kd9fal I just wish that I could get it programmed.I wish there was somebody that would program for my local sheriff's department.I just want to listen
They have software encryption, I believe it is adp. You still have to setup the encryption, so it is not automatic. 800mhz is useless unless you are public safety or a business that has an 800 mhz license. With a vhf radio, I have access to the 2m ham band.
@hellapellanyc6465 xtl5000 for ham radio will get the job done. I wouldn't pay ebay prices for one as they are a little outrageous, but if you can find one for a couple hundred go for it.
@@kd9fal Thanks do you know anything about the EF Johnson 5100 ES? I like the idea of using P25 as its not as common as gmrs so just looking for something like that and or with encryption. Maybe the xts2500 is a good choice? I am looking at xts5000 but I see they require a hard to find programming software from motorola as well as a cable and are quite expensive.
@hellapellanyc6465 I don't have any experience with the ef Johnson 5100. As far as P25, that is an operating mode where as gmrs is a license. I may have just read your comment wrong, but you need a license to use p25. I love the xts5000 and 2500. Both are great radios. I'm looking at adding some uhf xts5000 or 2500 to my collection soon. Software is readily available online.
@@hellapellanyc6465 my county frequency is 154 and this radio operates on a 403 frequency so I can't use it. The seller does not do returns so I'm stuck with a radio I can't use
@@RapidAlertOffical sorry to hear that man! Someone will buy it on ebay. I have bought many things that I couldn't return that I had to sell myself and it's not a problem just list it and wait.

Hello, do these talk encrypted automatically? Why do people prefer vhf over the 800mhz versions?
