For example, when that dragon guy comes to town, he tells you he'll give you an insane amount of money to do a job for him, once you complete this job, he gives you the money. When you look at the money and its actually fake money with his face on it LOL
Interestingly enough it's pretty close to what the original idea for Chrono Cross was. The head behind Chrono Cross said that he originally wanted you to be able to recruit almost every character in the game.

I was seriously waiting for you to mention Lost Odyssey. One of the absolute best RPGs I’ve ever played. Final Fantasy VI and Chrono Trigger are awesome, but in terms of story this absolutely killed it! I just picked this up digitally for my Series X and will likely play it again very soon.
Great list. It's funny how I actually setup my PS3 to play eternal sonata and Tales of grace F the other day and I was thinking where are the remaster for there. Absolutely love Radiata stories but really true I seemed like the only person that knew about that game in my whole school. People made fun of RS and called it the Rowdy asshole Stories. ETERNAL SONATA was awesome and the classical music references were inspiring to me since i had NEVER listened to them !!! also Lost Odyssey would be an insta buy from me even though on xbox 360 the game glitched and i lost my save when i was close to finishing the game !
Ahhhh, that’s the worst! A few years ago, I decided to wade into the trails of cold steel series and lost my save. What terrible games to lose saves for!
If you played Xenogears, that probably would have been top of you list. Since it is not on this list I only assume you haven't played it. XD I agree with a lot of these though!
I would not mind seeing a full triple A remake of The 7th Saga, Treasures of Rudra, Secret of Evermore, Final Fantasy Legends 2, Final Fantasy: Mystic Quest, Parasite Eve, Chrono Trigger, Terranigma, Valkyrie Profile, Forever Kingdom, Evergrace, Jade Cacoon, SaGa Frontier.
Cool list, some titles I wasn’t even aware existed. My top ones are: Xenogears, Chrono Trigger, Skies of Arcadia, Shining Force 3 (all 3 episodes), Phantasy Star (any of them or a new game in the series), and Parasite Eve. Xenogears especially. One of the best stories I can remember. Characters are great. Exploration, combat, and progression is so much fun. Shining Force 3 was one of the most painful things since it was released in 3 episodes and only the first released in the US.
Radiata Stories was freaking awesome. I miss the soundtrack, too. I really would love a remake right now. Getting lost in that world would Def bring me some positivity in my life.
Star Ocean 3 is my favorite RPG of all-time (if we don't include Brave Fencer Musashi, since the RPG elements are so light in that), and Tales of Graces f is only second to Tales of Phantasia to me. Great list. I've personally played most of these, with a heavy focus on Tri-Ace and Tales
Radiata stories was dangerously funny, if I lt I could experience it for the first time again. Legend of Dragoon is still firmly cemented in my top 5 RPGs of all time and I think if it could've existed in a gaming vacuum without ff7 being a thing, it could've been a bigger game, but those who knew of it and played, have a cult like adoration for it. One I'd actually be really curious to see a remake/sequel for is Romancing SaGa : The Minstrel Song. the sandboxy nonlinear story and DEEP combat and crafting systems felt so refreshing at the time, but even seasoned rpg lovers had either not heard of or hadn't played it, so every time I talk about it I end up having to "educate" people
Just found this channel and holy cow you go in depth on so many games. Radiata Stories is one of my favorite games ever! Lost Odyssey, Blue Dragon, and Infinite Undiscovery... 360 RPG love is awesome to see.
I played it last year on my Wii U for the first time and I fell in love! I wrote a review on the subreddit because I was in awe! Such a masterpiece of game!

@@syn3232 hahaha I bought it for almost 50€ but it was worth it! I have Pandora's Tower on Wii U as well through the eShop but I haven't played it much yet, too big of a backlog 🤧
Lost Odyssey was Sakaguchi’s love letter to Square fans. It was such a large game, with so much to do. I still play it once a year. This video was my introduction to your channel, and I’m not disappointed in the least.
@princessmagical that ff12 demo sold me enough to pre-order the steel book edition. Still not entirely sold on DQ8 but having finished DQ11 to a near complete capacity I might be willing to give it a shot again.
I love this video so much. Thank you so much for making it. There a few PS2 games that I could think of that could use a remaster or remake. Digital Devil Saga and Digital Devil Saga 2. Both games are amazing. I got to thank my friend for renting them and letting me play them.
I'm going to argue against Dirge of Cerberus being on this list. Not because it doesn't need an update, but because I see it more as a third person shooter with RPG elements.
What’s funny is that in an earlier cut of this video, I called that out. And I thought, “naw, the mechanics and leveling make it an rpg, should be good.” But you caught me! Haha thanks for watching :)
Another 1 I would like is Magna Carta 2 tears of blood (didn’t manage to play the first one). My other more popular choice for a remake are ff 9 and chrono cross.
Loved the video. Discovered a few I haven't heard of, so I'll definitely check them out! I like that you didn't do the "usual suspects" like ff9 or chrono trigger but allowed me to discover new RPGs
I would love to see all 3 of the Shadow Hearts games get a remake/remaster. Or heck, a collection of all 3 for the ps5 or switch. The story is both dark and silly, the judgement ring system made combat fun, some of my favorite rpgs
Infinite undiscovery was one hell of a ride as you also had to remember to remove deadlier than normal; berserk is a constant in this one making the game super difficult
Lost Odyssey will always be No1 on my request for remaster. I played it and Blue Dragon again not long ago. Also great to see you mention Infinite Undiscovery and Eternal Sonata is just so good. Good list.
Radiata Stories is one I'd love to play again, loved the challange of character recruiting, I still own Eternal sonata..though no longer a PS3, Absolutely LOVE suikoden V, rented it long ago, never got to buy it..fav of the series for the nostalgia, Path of Radiance was where I fell in love with FE.. I really would love to play those XBox ones too, one system I didn't have at the time
I just played (most of) Arc the Lad and I think it would really benefit from a glow up. It has a great artistic vision for its world and characters, great dialogue, and an interesting battle system with a strategic element. The balance is totally busted though, requiring a LOT of grinding to adequately make use of all the tools at your disposal. Or you can just power through the entire game with one character, wasting all those design elements. The story is there if you treat the collection as a single game. I think it's a great candidate
I only ever played twilight of spirits and got a majority of the way through it on ps2. Game is really fun I hope they just revive the franchise in general
In my opinion, The Last Story would be the best game brought by operation rainfall in terms of functionality. Xenoblade is iconic, but I was appalled by how gorgeous and charming TLS was. I wondered how my Wii could handle such beautiful graphics and not explode in the process. Just imagine how good it could be handled by a remaster.
Gosh, I've been wanting a Valkyrie Profile 2: Silmeria for YEARS! It's one of my favorite games, and the combat system is so iconic - juggling enemies with triple impact combo strikes watching the crystals rain down breaking the frame rate lol!
It also has one of the best soundtracks of any RPG with tracks like Disturb the Doubtful Sleep, Dancing Without Malice or Mercy, Start Up from Prolonged Darkness, A Thoughtful Strategy, Sank Memories, No Knowledge of Wisdom, In Order to Acquire the Light in That Hand, Unrestrained Struggle, Movement of Distorted Causality, Multiplexed Contradiction and Climax Coming From the Abyss.
@@cmudd9788 Yeah, the soundtrack is pretty good, but man, it's very different from the first game - I can imagine that bothering some people. VP2 kind of takes after the more somber moments of Star Ocean 3 than it does VP1.
I absolutely loved the setting and music in Eternal Sonata. As a musician myself, I loved appreciation to music as a creative medium. The battle system was really unique, and the game got really challenging towards the end. I would love to see a remake or remaster because it's truly a hidden gem of a game
Eternal Sonata composer was Motoi Sakuraba, same who composed music to great Star Ocean games and Tales of games.. if you didnt play them, I highly reccomend almost all of them... bu I must agree that Eternal Sonata had great OST
Man I've said it many times before, but I wish Eternal Sonata would have become a series. It could have focused on a bunch of different composers and teach you about each composers history. It was a missed opportunity
At least RPG wise lost odyssey and legends of dragoon. non RPGs - Rampage, I was an atomic mutant, vigilante 8, clay fighters, vectorman, metal warriors.
Valkyrie Profile 2 was so good, I probably played that game for over 500 hours back in the day lol. Also would love to see Golden Sun, and Lunar 1 & 2 (these ones with the same HD-2D treatment as Star Ocean 2!)
Commenting before he talks about radiata in this video; Radiata stories needs quality of life updates tho, and could definitely use character control/modification expansion features. I know it's jack's story, but it felt like ONLY jack is truly functional. Like am i supposed to play to solo run this?
Fr0st_Tea is right. As soon as i saw this video, i was about to leave you a comment. The Legend of Dragoon. :) That being said though, many of the games you named are all in need of remake as well. Valkyria Profile 2 is one of my favorite. And i have Lost Odyssey on my radar. Just procrastinating. lol Lastly, want to make it clear, to me Remaster means like an HD port or something. Remake is want i'm looking for. Something like RE2 or FFVIIR. Especially for The Legend of Dragoon or any other PS1 and PS2 JRPGs. For PS3 JRPGs instead, maybe a Remaster (albeit a really good one) could be enough. Edit: Also, you forgot Shadow Hearts series. :)
Eternal Sonata is my fav game of all time, but if you were to ask which version I prefer, definitely the XBox version because I enjoyed the gameplay more. I think the PS3 version made a few mistakes- 1. The difficulty spikes were worse, which resulted in MORE grinding. With Xbox's version, it only took me 60 hours to get 100% (which you can only get by doing Encore mode), in PS3- more than 100 hours (the clock stop taking time past the 99 hour mark so I don't know how long it took me to get 100%). So yeah, my love for the game was dampened. 2 issue- One of the playable new chars was NOT fun to play. He moved slower than Jazz! At least Jazz had a long reaching weapon to make up for his slow movement (and we know how critical movement speed is in this game). Crescendo is just a mele char. Serenade was an amazing addition though, I took her with me into the final battle. If Eternal Sonata ever gets remastered, here's my suggestions- 1. Keep the gameplay mechanics of XBox360 and get rid of the difficulty spikes! I want I nice difficulty progression. Unless it's a secret dungeon or extra side quest, the hardest boss shouldn't come in the middle of the game. Yes I am looking at Dulce. Also, keep the battle positions on the field the same. I hated PS3's version of pretty much putting your party and foes in random locations, it made battles longer and harder, especially since light and shadow mechanics are important in battle. 2. Keep PS3's story for I think it'll be easier on the newer players for it does a better job at foreshadowing things due to a few extra things. 3. Improve Crescendo's Gameplay, make him faster. He may be a tank, but it doesn't mean he has to be slow. That's about it. But yes amazing game. Astra of the Heart is one of my fav songs from a video game, I have it on my playlist lol. Another game I want to see remastered is Skies of Arcadia. Like Grandia 2, it was on the Dreamcast. It did get a Gamecube port, but that's it. With more JRPGs getting remastered and especially since Sega said they were remastered a bunch of their classic games, I keep praying this is a sign that SoA will eventually get remastered. There's a reason why it's become a cult classic in the JRPG community. Other than updating the graphics, really the only thing I'd change is the ability to skip scenes and make it an option to not have has as many random encounters. Also, I have a warning system of when a battle was going to start soon too so you don't run into a wall and have the possibility of an enemy have the upper hand. DC did have something like this, you hear a noise coming from the controller and if I was coming up to a turn in narrow section, I'd stop lol.
I remember playing Infinite Undiscovery, had a lot of fun and loved that game. Until the red ring of death happened on my 360 and i never saw or played that game again since then.
Would love to play Lost Odyssey one day but seeing that Sakaguchi doesn't remake games he makes previously, im gonna have to watch a gameplay on TH-cam of this. wow! I wanna play Blue Dragon though. :(
I'm all for it. Many games slipped through the cracks, got ignored, or were a bit ahead of their time and could use a remaster. This is really only one I truly truly care about though. You know what it is. Starts with an X and it's probably the one JRPG that everyone is absolutely sure will never be touched.
I played and completed Dirge of Cerberus once. Did actually quite enjoy it, though it was on rails pretty much all through. Chrono Trigger is the one I think - and hope! - will get the full treatment a la Star Ocean: The Second Story. Bring on 2.5D Chrono Trigger!
Remaster or Remake, there's often a thin line between these 2 ideas so... For the list, you MUST add FFT (you already know it), Shining Force III, Secret of Mana (in the same way Trials of Mana had, and NO, the 2018 remaster DOESN'T exist, period), Summon Night Swordcraft Story and EVERY BREATH OF FIRE GAMES !!! And maybe the two first Fallout games need a HD-2D remake or something like that, it could be nice. 😇
I too loved radiata stories!! I put soooooo many hours into that one. I'd love to see it return! Dirge of Cerberus would be amazing if it got the final fantasy vii remake treatment!
Already been a long time rpg fan. But you're right, the marketing on Lost Odyssey killed it. One commercial had White Rabbit as the song and that clinched it for me. But I was still playing on a 23" CRT TV that I had when I got out of tech school, and the ring qte for each attack was IMPOSSIBLE to time because the rings were all just blurry blobs. Went out and got a flat screen plazma to play this game. So, this game was around $300 when it came out, for me at least. For games in DESPERATE need of a remaster (update graphics, change nearly nothing else) Chrono Trigger, FF6, E.V.O. Search for Eden, Actraiser
I wish Sony would remaster Wild Arms 1 & 2. They keep re-releasing those two games for each of their consoles as a DL (sometimes the lackluster WA3 gets included) but I just wish they'd pull the trigger (heh heh) and do a HD remaster of those games. (btw, Alter code:F was TERRIBLE.) Still, I doubt there's any money in it, and I'd wish they'd do away with the damn exclusivity at this point - the franchise is not a system seller.
I have 2 lists and I'll include my top picks of each RPGs that need a fresh coat of paint because they're already amazing: Chrono Trigger (Gimme a beautiful remaster!), Pokemon Gold/Silver/Crystal RPGs that deserve a full remake to expand their glory and make them as grand as they should be: Skies of Arcadia (Imagine this game but twice the size and content. It deserves to feel so much fuller!), Quest 64 (Drop the 64 and give it a full name, give it a proper tutorial, and I feel like people would LOVE this game. Some mechanics of it were WAY ahead of their time, like spells that had you had to manually aim by positioning your character and knowing how far their reach was!)
You’ll have to forgive my hasty self for saying Chopin died at 19! It was definitely 39.

XD
I agree with a lot of these though!
Haha you have guessed correctly! It’s on my list of games to check out!
@@retrobrandon I hope you enjoy it! I think it has the best story of pretty much any JRPG EVER created.
There is a shareholder requesting Square to remake Xenogears so there’s hope?
I would not mind seeing a full triple A remake of The 7th Saga, Treasures of Rudra, Secret of Evermore, Final Fantasy Legends 2, Final Fantasy: Mystic Quest, Parasite Eve, Chrono Trigger, Terranigma, Valkyrie Profile, Forever Kingdom, Evergrace, Jade Cacoon, SaGa Frontier.
You’re hired!
Yeah, they need to remake all those.
Radiata Stories and Eternal Sonata are two of my all time favorites. I just told my coworkers about them this week.
For me, Legend of Dragoon and Xenogears come to mind.
I miss Rogue Galaxy.
Blue dragon and Radiata stories are actually my favourite JRPG in xbox 360 and ps2. Radiata stories will always have a place in my heart
I loved. Radiata Stories. I watched my dad playing it growing up and then I eventually bought it for myself and spent huuuundreds of hours playing it.
Do someone wanna feel old as F ? This comment right there could be you just yesterday, but today ...you are a dad or could be a dad ...😅😂😂
I feel this keenly. What my nieces call "retro" boggles my mind. 😂
One I'd actually be really curious to see a remake/sequel for is Romancing SaGa : The Minstrel Song. the sandboxy nonlinear story and DEEP combat and crafting systems felt so refreshing at the time, but even seasoned rpg lovers had either not heard of or hadn't played it, so every time I talk about it I end up having to "educate" people
Id love to see Legend od Legaia remastered both 1 & 2 in one package❤️💪🏽🔥
Radiata is soo good, so many good feelings from when i played it
Just found this channel and holy cow you go in depth on so many games. Radiata Stories is one of my favorite games ever! Lost Odyssey, Blue Dragon, and Infinite Undiscovery... 360 RPG love is awesome to see.
Welcome and thanks for watching!
Sucks they never ported Last Story to the switch. It was another Wii or WiiU title that I wanted as well. Neither title ever got ported
I played it last year on my Wii U for the first time and I fell in love! I wrote a review on the subreddit because I was in awe! Such a masterpiece of game!
@@dimitripatronas2409 Pandora’s Tower! That was it! Bruh I even wish I could buy a wii and both of them. And now you just vouched for it… smh I’m bout to spend some dough lol
True.. I say it was exclusive FF on Xbox 360 with other name, which is almost true :)
Skies of Arcadia and Xenosaga trilogy
Dude I bought Radiata Stories for the FFXII demo but it stole my heart with hundreds of characters to recruit
Radiata stories is marvellous. Check out suikoden 1 and 2 remake when it comes out next year
Dragon Quest VIII was awesome because not only did I get that game but it came with the FFXII demo.
@princessmagical that ff12 demo sold me enough to pre-order the steel book edition. Still not entirely sold on DQ8 but having finished DQ11 to a near complete capacity I might be willing to give it a shot again.
I bought DQ8 just for the FFXII demo. Still glad I did to this day. That was a fantastic game.
I love this video so much. Thank you so much for making it. There a few PS2 games that I could think of that could use a remaster or remake. Digital Devil Saga and Digital Devil Saga 2. Both games are amazing. I got to thank my friend for renting them and letting me play them.
As another collector, seeing videos like this makes my heart soar, thank you
As a creator, seeing comments like this makes MY heart soar! Thanks for watching!
Haha thanks for watching :)
i played radiata stories back in my PS2 days and loved it i would love it for it to be remade or remastered
Drakengard 1, 2 and 3
Chrono Trigger and Cross. Hopefully a new sequel
Arc the Lad 1 through 4
The only games I totally missed on that list, are every game of the Shadow Hearts Series!
It’s now on the list! I missed these back in the day :)
I really would love to play those XBox ones too, one system I didn't have at the time
Lost oddysey on xbox360 , last story on wii , Shadow hearts 2 covenant on ps2,śmieszne of arkadia on dreamcast😊
I would buy PS5 at this moment if sony announce they gonna bring this series back to life, specially if they gonna remake ATL 1 -3 >
I only ever played twilight of spirits and got a majority of the way through it on ps2. Game is really fun I hope they just revive the franchise in general
valkyrie elysium was too different from silmeria, played silmeria and really liked it, but elysium is just a completely different game
Pandora's Tower the other of the Project Rainfall games also would benefit from a remaster.
Probably a remake, now until they happen I can always play on emulation
I was lucky enough to experience radiata stories. Would love to play it again
Phantasy Star 4 needs a Star Ocean Second Star R type remake... Wild ARMS 1 too
I loved Lost Odssey, Blue Dragon and Infinite Undiscovery, to this day i still wish they have been remastered
A remaster of Shadow Hearts: Covenant is needed. Everything else can wait.
My own list will always included Final Fantasy Tactics and the first Valkyrie Profile !
I absolutely loved the setting and music in Eternal Sonata. As a musician myself, I loved appreciation to music as a creative medium. The battle system was really unique, and the game got really challenging towards the end. I would love to see a remake or remaster because it's truly a hidden gem of a game
Eternal Sonata composer was Motoi Sakuraba, same who composed music to great Star Ocean games and Tales of games.. if you didnt play them, I highly reccomend almost all of them... bu I must agree that Eternal Sonata had great OST
shadowhearts is a cult classic that not many people played due to finalfantasy taking the lead
Man I've said it many times before, but I wish Eternal Sonata would have become a series. It could have focused on a bunch of different composers and teach you about each composers history.
It was a missed opportunity
I feel you. I'd be all over that!
So glad to see love for infinite Undiscovery. This is one of my favorite games
Dirge of Cerberus is not a RPG, it´s a shooter.
It's a hybrid rpg shooter.
Yall are both wrong. It's a master piece
@@BillyBob-hn7bt I like saying random things too
@ragingreject Look dude. It's just my opinion. If you disagree it's just because you're wrong
@BillyBob-hn7bt I wouldn't call it a complete masterpiece, but it's still a load of fun and one of the coolest games I played on my ps2 this year
the game I need remastered is Shadow Hearts and Kodelka
At least RPG wise lost odyssey and legends of dragoon.
non RPGs - Rampage, I was an atomic mutant, vigilante 8, clay fighters, vectorman, metal warriors.
Ah man, I LOVED Rampage back in the day. Love it!
Hi
I played final Fantasy 7 dirge of Cerberus.
I played it but I didn't understand the story.
Because I haven't played final Fantasy 7
Well, what are you waiting for?? Haha for real, though... you still may not understand the story 😅
I would like to see Lunar: Silver Star Story Complete
Valkyrie Profile 2 was so good, I probably played that game for over 500 hours back in the day lol. Also would love to see Golden Sun, and Lunar 1 & 2 (these ones with the same HD-2D treatment as Star Ocean 2!)
I'd like to see Xenosaga or the Lunar Silver Star series
Commenting before he talks about radiata in this video; Radiata stories needs quality of life updates tho, and could definitely use character control/modification expansion features. I know it's jack's story, but it felt like ONLY jack is truly functional. Like am i supposed to play to solo run this?
AZURE DREAMS REMASTER!!! PLEASE KONAMI!!
Fr0st_Tea is right. As soon as i saw this video, i was about to leave you a comment. The Legend of Dragoon. :)
That being said though, many of the games you named are all in need of remake as well. Valkyria Profile 2 is one of my favorite. And i have Lost Odyssey on my radar. Just procrastinating. lol
Lastly, want to make it clear, to me Remaster means like an HD port or something.
Number 1) Chrono Trigger
Number 2) Chrono Trigger
Number 3) Chrono Trigger
Number 4) Suikoden 1 and 2
Number 5) Tales of Destiny
Amazing list! Those top 3 are hard to beat! 😂
@@retrobrandon 😂
Literally TIL that Redemption was from Dirge of Cerberus. I used to listen to the hell out of that song in my freshman year jrock/v-kei phase.
If Eternal Sonata ever gets remastered, here's my suggestions-
Ugh, that was the worst! Happened to me once too. Fortunately, I’d beaten Infinite Undiscovery before then
I'm huge FF fanboy but even I can admit FF7 Dirge of cerebus was garbage! 🙄
Haha like I said, dozens of us loved it 😂
Would love to play Lost Odyssey one day but seeing that Sakaguchi doesn't remake games he makes previously, im gonna have to watch a gameplay on TH-cam of this. wow! I wanna play Blue Dragon though. :(
How is dragon quest 8 not on this list? One of the best selling ps2 games and is still fun to play…
DQ8 is something I will definitely talk about at some point. It did get a remaster for 3DS, but you’re right, it should definitely come back again!
I'm all for it. Many games slipped through the cracks, got ignored, or were a bit ahead of their time and could use a remaster.
This is really only one I truly truly care about though. You know what it is. Starts with an X and it's probably the one JRPG that everyone is absolutely sure will never be touched.
games i'd really hope for a remake or sequel would be Final Fantasy 8 and Star Ocean Ex 2nd Story.
I wish they're making Rogue Galaxy sequel
I would LOVE that!
glad to see tri ace's gems in 1 video would love see them in ps4/ps5 consoles
You earned my sub when you said tales of Grace's F was your favorite tails game. Dude. We're bros
I have 2 lists and I'll include my top picks of each
RPGs that need a fresh coat of paint because they're already amazing: Chrono Trigger (Gimme a beautiful remaster!), Pokemon Gold/Silver/Crystal
RPGs that deserve a full remake to expand their glory and make them as grand as they should be: Skies of Arcadia (Imagine this game but twice the size and content.
