As I said at 38:00, Level 5's management and marketing suck.
They're not helping with DecaPolice, and they certainly didn't help with this awesome mecha ARPG Megaton Musashi W: Wired.

One more game of note that was announced in the Nintendo Direct as well after I had rendered the video - the Fairy Tail RPG is getting a sequel covering the final arc.

Romancing Saga games were 'very' popular in Japan in the 90s. So much so that the remake of RS II is one of the most pre-ordered games in Japan now, next to DQ III HD-2D. The new saga game almost certainly didn't have nearly the same budget by comparison. I know it may seem odd, but that's more or less how it is most likely.

It's the "worst kept secret" because Enix had a livestream a few years ago, where Yuji Horii literally sat down and announced it, along with DQ12. What wasn't announced at that time was the remakes of DQ1+2. Super stoked for them.

That explains it then, if it was a few years a go then I likely missed it as I was still a Trails exclusive channel and didn't really look outside of it with the exception of games like Ryza. It was in late 2021 that I shifted over to general JRPG content.

Romancing SaGa games are brutally hard, but they were some of the most popular RPGs in Japan in the 90s (of course, they weren't released in the West then). I wonder what they do with this game. If you think SMT is hard, you've not played SaGa, let me tell you that. But darn it, this is a surprisingly long list overall! Definitely some good stuff on here, too. Say what you want about Furyu, but they are one of the very few publishing companies who are willing to take risks and publish games that are very experimental/unconventional.
I've played several of their more notable games and while I think all of them were very flawed games, they were certainly memorable at the very least, which can't be said about the vast majority of new JRPGs coming out. I'd much rather have a new experimental Furyu game over a comfy new Atelier/Neptunia or an epic new Tails of/FF game.
They also all had great OSTs, my personal favorite being Monark's, which I think is on par with some of the big hitters.

I am really curious how Romancing SaGa 2 will be received. This game is bound to get more attention if just by being the first game since probably Minstrel Song nineteen years ago to not look like a budget or mobile title. But the issue for SaGa will be what it's always been, that the games are almost JRPGs in name only.
These are games that prioritize complex mechanics, a high level of difficulty, and a minimalist narrative focused more on encouraging player freedom and unpredictability than a tight, cinematic plot. They are games that you beat, not complete. If traditional JRPGs were an attempt by Japanese developers to reimagine '80s CRPGs as something you could sell to manga loving kids, SaGa is kind of the series that attempts to take that interpretation and then feed it back into the machine to reimagine the JRPG as something more akin to its original point of inspiration. What Etrian Odyssey is to Wizardry, SaGa is -- kinda sorta -- to Ultima, especially the Romancing line.
All that is to say, I worry that it'll just be the same thing as it was for Frontier back in the '90s, and Minstrel Song in the '00s, where people pick it up expecting one thing and then get upset when they get another. Square has been trying unusually hard to build up the SaGa brand the last several years, even putting out several videos to explain the combat in Emerald Beyond up to its release. It miiiiiiight be worthwhile for them to get ahead of the curve and try to build an audience by hyping up what's so cool and unique about the game, rather than just throwing it out there to be misunderstood.
Romancing SaGa 2 is a unique game; 31 years later there's still nothing remotely like it. I hope it can find a receptive audience.

Farmagia is one I actually got more interested in seeing the gameplay. I wasn’t too sold on it to begin with, but the farming + Pikmin + fantasy setting is appealing to me. I’m also not one to care about the graphics, but I can see how that could be a turn-off for many people.

Seems like a great year for JRPGs (and gaming in general, I know October will be packed). I really hope Konami will not pull a Konami with Suikoden 1 & 2 Remaster, I really loved the first two games (as well as the other games in the Suikoden series)

I hope Tokyo Xanadu sequel will be published by the same publisher as first game even if it's unlikely, i genuinely want to buy and support it, but there's no way in hell i'll give Nishit a single cent. Yasha looks very interesting, it really reminds me of Oninaki really hard because of the artstyle and how the gameplay looks so far. Recognized Farmagia's art style instantly, probably will emulate it unless it'll get a pc port, sure, it's nothing special but i like that kind of wacky, unusual, weird games. All in all, seems my backlog'll still grow, exciting. Oh and already finished Ys X a few months ago, i'd say it has one of if not the best story in the series, it's one of Adol's most well-written adventures, people seem to have mostly disliked the ost, but it still had some bangers, especially final boss phase 1 theme.

I would like to point out that REYNATIS isn't "developed by" FuRyu, it is developed by Natsume Atari. The game shows Natsume Atari action RPG game design paradigms (based on the demo).
CRYMACHINA is a game by AQURIA (it even says so as such, when you boot the game up and look past the FuRyu logo).
Trinity Trigger is a game by Three Rings.
"FuRyu games" are so different because they are developed by different developers using their own game design philosophies, artists, UI designers, etc...
They do not develop games you are familiar with. They do however assist a bit with development and usually appoint a director to oversee things to a slight extend. But you will see the main developer's ideas in the works published/produced by them.
Check Gematsu, they do have an accurate info regarding the actual developers.

You didn't listen to the commentary, man.
Quote 'I know Furyu don't get involved with the development of many of their games' - all I said was 'they get their hands stuck in to games that look very cool but they don't deliver after that'.
Furyu are co-developing Reynatis with NatsumeAtari. Literally look at any article surrounding it and you'll see.

@@TheKisekiNut My apologies. I missed that part. I guess I am so used to this misattribution that I automatically wrote that comment. Because there is still the notion that I described in my comment, for whatever reason and it leads to this situation where FuRyu is marked off as the sole developer, when in fact their contribution is more or less "minimal" and the games are products of the other developer invooved.
Keep up the good work, and I am glad you are doing a good job reporting

Regarding Trails through Daybreak, I’m a huge fan of the earlier games (started with Cold Steel I then picked up all the first ones) but found myself VERY disappointed with how repetitive the combat in the demo was - so little variety. Good characters though and a nice start to the plot line.

Square enix and their pricing for collectors editions is absurd, i would've gotten it at maybe 130 - 150 range, but 200 is not worth it imo.
Of course, Ys X Nordics and Daybreak are Definite day 1 games for me, Fantasion and Sword of the Necromancer Resurrection look up my alley as well.

The combat was decent in Crymachina too, and that game was mediocre at best. They just don't seem to have much 'depth' to them, so I'm hoping Reynatis can do a little more.

I was so exited for Fantasy life. I don't really get why they push this game back over and over again. If it's a switch 2 release title it would make sense, but it looks like it will suffer the fate of the first game (great game but nobody played it).

Played the demo for Bloomtown during Steam Next Fest. I'm shocked at how good it is, given all the different gameplay elements they're trying to juggle. Life sim, farming sim, turn-based RPG. There's an open world to explore, a clock with events and NPCs tied to it like Persona, you can get a job or explore town or do a bunch of side quests. It seems like a hugely ambitious game, and they're somehow managing to pull it off. Really looking forward to giving the final game a try.

I really wanted to enjoy WitchSpring R, but the localization was so bad that I refunded it.
Maybe it got better if I played more, but at the time I first played it, all the dialogue looked as if it was just thrown in Google Translate. Some of it I could decipher, but a lot of it was just nonsensical or broken.
Hopefully releasing to new platforms gave them a reason to go in & fix that.

And flipping Ys X! Where is the Limited Edition?! I want to make bad financial decisions! Why is it still not up for preorder? Also very happy about the Announcement at the Nintendo Direct for the Miles Edgeworth games. I am so excited to play those. But damn it, where is my Ys X limited edition?! I hope you have fun in Japan and bring more cool stuff over. I need to see it when you get back. You always have so much cool stuff. But yeah, falcom games are always great. I hope I can play some Azure before bed. Azure is pretty cool so far again. I remember how much I enjoyed it.
