@@retrobrandon I prefer Parasite Eve 2. That being said, you missed a huge chunk of the story. The mitochondria mutated into two sentient forms; one that wanted to operate independently from larger organisms (the "bad" mitochondria) and one that wanted to work and live symbiotically with humans (the "good" mitochondria.) The latter form is what gave Aya her powers. That's probably why you didn't figure out about her powers, as you missed some story elements talking about the good mitochondria giving her her powers to fight the bad form.

Best turn based combat ever IMO. You're never just waiting for your turn. When it's not your turn, you're positioning to evade, while still trying to get close enough to attack. Combat is NEVER dull. And I love love love the weapon and mod system. I miss it so much.
The day Enix joined forces with them, was the day Square, and it's quality, tone, died. This Era of Square, is perfection. That 3d map of NYC was amazing at the time. As the kids say today "it's a vibe".
Thank you for playing. Square Enix infuriates me by not bringing this series back via a remake. More people need to know. It's my #1 fav game of all time. The amount of creativity injected into this game is insane. Like what filmmaker or developer today would make something that is a SEQUEL to an obscure book.
And I discovered the movie while editing as well! I was so mesmerized that I lost an entire evening of editing and have since gone down the rabbit hole 😂 this game is VERY unique in concept and execution. And hopefully we’ll get that remake at some point! Thanks for watching!
I played so many games during the PS1 era especially RPG/ JRPG games …. But let me tell you PARASITE EVE still holds a special place in my heart for so many reasons. It’s eerie, it’s disturbing. It’s edgy, the story is complex but wild and all while it explains about the genetic code of “Mitochondria” THAT COULD HOLD SOME TRUTH and it’s not far fetched from being a wild crazy theory. (Which makes it even more scary.) I’m a New Yorker, born and a raised in Queens Woodhaven and let me tell you… Playing this game in New York during Christmas… LEGIT GOOSEBUMPS! This game has potential and deserves a Remake!
@@retrobrandon you can burn 3rd birthday... don't even bother with it... they completely hadn't a clue who Aya is. Play Valkyrie Profile instead.... (and break her seal...) It's even been remastered for the PS4.
Its such a unique concept blending survival horror with an rpg. Loved Koudelka too and only just getting to Shadow Hearts. Sadly I don't know of many other rpg horrors.
Ohhhhh Koudelka! I REALLY want to get to that one before taking on the Shadow Hearts series, but I also love getting the physical copies. And that bad boy is EXPENSIVE. One of these days, though!
Very good breakdown of the game. I didn't see any comments answering the question you had about Eve's powers. There's actually a really simple answer as to why the guns and everything still work when fighting Eve and her creations. Spoilers for anyone planning to play the game for the first time. Her powers are really quite limited, she can only affect the cells of living animals, because she only has power over mitochondria. She can't manipulate anything else, so any weapons near her will always remain functional. She didn't destroy the planes or helicopters. They just crashed after she melted the pilots, leaving no one at the controls. As far as the monsters she created, while they are larger and stronger than the original animal, they are still biological creatures, and would go down after taking too much damage. For the explosions on the battleships at the end of the game, the ultimate being is much more powerful than Eve, and caused all the stored energy of the cells to be released instantly, effectively turning people into living bombs (while I doubt there's enough energy in the human body to do that, at least there was an explanation). Finally, the forcefield in the middle of the street thing with the missiles...was odd...and kind of came out of nowhere...with no explanation. I don't know what's up with that last one.
Haha right! It was really that last bit that threw me off. To be fair, most of it was believable enough to see it and move on, but it didn’t always seem consistent. Still good stuff, though, thanks for watching!
I grew up during the psx/n64 era, and I never played PE until about 3 years ago. I loved it. The save before the final boss and all of the cutscenes/dialog you had to sit through were brutal. If you died, you have to sit through it all again.
What I love about this game is that you can keep upgrading some of your weapons on and on and on...I still remember after 3 run throughs, I have an uzi type weapon that can hit like a cannon.
saying the game was praised amongst the competition at the time while missing the fact that that's how good gaming was back then, bangers EVERYWHERE, unlike todays gaming
Haha oh it’s not lost on me at all. It was a totally different time and I’m glad I have a channel that’ll give me an excuse to go back! Forget these 10 year dev cycles just to get another live service game. Back to the good stuff! 😂
I was 14 when I got this game. It stands as absolutely one of my fondest gaming experiences ever. Incredible game and yes, the original score is excellent.
It manages to be a fun RPG with ONE party member. Very little grinding is needed to progress the story its light puzzle solving. The game story is a lot better the first time when you're unraveling the plot. It made me really interested in human biology, "Mitochondria originated by permanent enslavement of purple non-sulphur bacteria." Woah.
The one party member thing is also perfect for the atmosphere. As soon as I got to the museum of natural history and saw the t-Rex skeletons, I was like… F 😂

One of the things I find interesting about Parasite Eve is how it stands as a kind of graphical missing link between Final Fantasy VII and Final Fantasy VIII. It uses fully-proportioned field models for things, but the camera angles in the pre-rendered backgrounds and the textures and modeling and even the art style are far more reminicent of VII than VIII. The music also sounds more like VII's synthesized soundtrack, rather than VIII's more CD-audio-focused approach. Yet you can see them leaning into more cinematic style in the framing of shots than they ever did with VII outside of its FMVs. It's an interesting step in the evolution of Square's game design style, for sure.
I LOVE parasite Eve and have watched alot of videos on the game, I’ve never seen anyone make the cloud to aya and Daniel to Barret comparisons so kudos for that, I never thought about it before but can definitely see it now 👍🏾
13:36 my interpretation of the mitochondria plot was they were the key to evolution. as the saying goes, they are the powerhouse of the cell. so it can be inferred mitochondria exist in all cells, not just humans. hence the animals also evolving/mutating. i believe they can also be found in plant cells, but that's a whole other biology lesson. the plotline in the original book asks the question "what if mitochondria had an ulterior motive in allowing us to evolve to this point?" and so Eve's goal was to give birth to the next step in evolution. which would one day wipe out humanity as we know it and take over the world. much like how homo sapiens wiped out neanderthals and whatnot, as our old science textbooks will tell you thing is, Eve has a bit of a bias, and will only mate/get a sample from someone who understands this concept.
Ah got it, that's good context, especially from the book! I think I was confused by the delivery because Eve goes on the sort of typical JRPG spiel of humanity, wars, etc, as if to say to Aya that she's on the wrong side, but then goes on to essentially say that the mitochondria guided some of this and then want to take over. So it just rips the meaning out of the argument. Maybe I misunderstood, but I found that confusing
@@retrobrandon Long story short, the novel and game riff off the endosymbiotic origin of mitochondria: prokaryotes absorbed by others to form eukaryotes, with which a symbiotic relationship developed. Mitochondria produce ATP in exchange for protection within the larger eukaryote. In the novel/game/film, over the next two billion years mitochondria evolved to form a latent hive mind. Eve is the "queen", and jumps between female hosts as necessary by awakening the latent hive mind in each body to possess them. Which there's another parallel between the late-'90s Square RPGS: Eve and Myyah in Xenogears. It's not terribly well explained in the first game, but the transplants harvested from Maya created a second Eve: Aya. Except, Aya's "Eve" can coexist peacefully and has a truly symbiotic relationship to eukaryotic life. She just doesn't have full control over the mitochondrial hive mind the way the original Eve does, but she can disrupt it and turn it against itself. (That's why Aya's the only one who can harm and kill mitochondrial creatures, by the way.) So, when Melissa Pierce and Aya come into close proximity with each other (the opera), the two Eves awaken and initiate a conflict over which will go on to control the mitochondrial hive mind. The game's false ending is a straightforward take on that but it's ambiguous to what end. The true ending is the one in which the original Eve is completely destroyed, leaving Aya the mitochondrial hive mind's "queen" (but not in full control of her powers). The second game is about the mitochondrial hive mind going feral due to lack of a "queen" (and an effort to create a synthetic one to control it). The third is -- more or less -- about Aya being an imperfect Eve, and the creation of a perfect Eve from Aya's mitochondrial lineage.
Parasite Eve is forever my favorite series. Ever since I was a kid in 1998 this game has never left my mind. I am not afraid to say I enjoyed Third Birthday lmaoo
Parasite Eve is still my favorite game of all time, right in front of classics like Dark Souls and Metal Gear Solid. It was the game I got alongside my PlayStation for Christmas in 1998, and it opened my eyes to what games could be. I try to play through every year.
I had a choice between Parasite Eve and megaman legends. I rented both but my mom said I could only choose one for Christmas. I chose parasite eve. I absolutely love this game. I ran the crysler tower 50 times. Now as an adult, I don't know if I could do it again, lol. Many years later, I came across the game at a gaming store and picked it up for 35 dollars in almost mint condition. Now that I see the prices online, I'm glad I bought it again to put back into my collection. Side note: the highest level I ever got in this game was lvl 66 if I recall. Hot spots will start to become less active which kinda keeps you from over leveling.
Oh, I didn’t know that! Good to know for any future runs. Haha and yeah, I wish I had the means and knowledge to pick some of these gems up before the market exploded. But I’m committed to having a physical copy of any game I play for the channel. Really it’s just my excuse to build the collection 😉 Anyway, thanks for watching!
I'm SO sorry that you had to make such a difficult choice as a child. That would be like choosing which of my children is my favorite. Those are my two ALL TIME FAVORITE games.
Parasite Eve looks amazing! I already knew about it but your indepth look made me want to play it. Also, absolutely brilliant editing, Brandon! Chefs kiss.
Fun little tidbit with your PE points: they regenerate in battle, but it slows down after multiple PE power usage. You can circumvent this by equipping a second armor to restart the regeneration speed.
@@retrobrandon If you are going to do that, make sure the second armor is also decent with good effects and stats. You don't want to swap to something weak in a tough fight.
Got this game when it first came out. Loved the story, the body horror, and overall uniqueness of it. Got it and PE2 on my PSP and play it very year as my go to Christmas game
As a person who did back to back runs and took on the Chrysler Building a couple weeks ago: Yes. It is that good. I’m honesty over remakes, but hear me out….PARASITE EVE And 1998. What a year between this and Resident Evil 2 ❤️❤️❤️
Word! Haha yeah, it’s definitely not one that NEEDS a remake, but I’d buy one! Assuming it was true to the original. Really, I’d just love to see a more streamlined experience for using powers, the menu, etc. But definitely still worth playing as is! Haha 1998 was incredible!
A friend and I are doing Let's Plays of PE 1 and 2 (There is no Third Game) this year, and our general agreement has been that it was just so revolutionary and different from its peers that it really has stood the test of time.
Oh mumma, the editing in this is so good! Love the skits sprinkled throughout as well, and I felt invested in the story just from you talking about the premise alone. Great job, brother! ❤
12:40 when eve gets close to normal humans (non-eve cells) they combust/transform/etc, so just her presence or aura is enough to "lower their defenses" (and then some) so to speak, so it makes sense that eve and eve-monsters being in the presence of aya (eve cells... maya cells?) would have a similar effect, like neutralizing their "aura" or "field" enough to the point that they're now susceptible to conventional weapons
I was OBSESSED with this game when it came out. I was 10 years old and was too scared to play the game past the sewer, so I never actually finished it. I played that first hour over and over again until my boyfriend played through the entire game for me years later.
OMFG, you mean to tell me, I struggled to beat the game when I was younger, because you can essentially get soft locked into your current status for the final boss. Finally beat it years later(2011~ish), only to find out just now....about the Chrysler building???? wtf?????? OMGGG I need to beat it again, I had 0 idea about it. Also, great video btw, thanks. This definitely holds up when I re-beat it years later. Great game
To put some slight perspective, been playong games since commodore. Played through PE gain (true ending,) as well as 2 ( first time) a few years back. 1 definitely held up well. I still enjoy the battle system, the zany story and the cutscenes still hold up through charm. 2 isn't nearly as good but was still fun enough. I believe a lot of these , considered now, older games hold up even better since the gaming field has kind of gone into such a different direction. At least in what is expected or what is considered the "norm". That way even new players can experience not just a snapshot or virtual time capsule of the era but also old new experiences they might not be exposed to with modern games. Great vid BTW, keep up the great work!
@@retrobrandon I loved watching you play and give an honest account to it... I agreed with everything you said... and a few things I didn't know... bravo... I really enjoyed it... 👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽
Alternative title: FF8 chad fan reviews PE1. Great job! The only thing I think you missed was thw Chrysler building maze. Its ridiculous and honestly the biggest reason to remake this game. Aside from that, spot on with everything else. This is a blast from the past!
I just finished replaying Parasite Eve and loved it even more than in the past when I was a teenager. I finally finished all the floors in the Chrysler building for the first time in my life so it felt so good finally getting there. I had to played it at 2x speed using duckstation because I cannot stand anymore how slow it is. I also played it using Reshade so the graphics look way sharper than the original. Now I will replay PE2 trying to finally finish scavenger and nightmare modes. I just hope some day they do a remake of both PE and PE2
Damn good game of its time. The action , rpg element, cut scenes and story is very satisfying. May not be for everyone, was one of my favorites among titles like Resident Evil and Silent Hill. I still have my original PE and PE2 complete games. I really wish they ported to ps4 and ps5. They did for ps3. Hopefully we will get a collection of all 3 games. Remaster will most welcomed.
Fantastic content, and great production values. Hope to see your channel blow up soon! And yes, it was thar good. The music for this game is forever ingrained into my being.
Great video! This definitely makes me want to check it out! I feel like I would probably do better with a remake but if that never happens, I'll just play the PS1 version!
This game needs a remake/remaster! I remember not using any of the upgrade tools until the end and made a god killer from the original pistol. Would love to play again!
i just started replaying it a couple days ago. lol the odds of this getting suggested are weird but i am here for it. Also if you liked parasite eve you may want to keep up with a game card 45 parabellum bloodhound its an indie and the devs mention parasite eve was one of their inspirations.
Oooooooh, I’ll have to look into it! I’ve never been into horror games, but now I’m over here looking at Koudelka and Folklore as well as, you know, PE2. So I’m down to check some other stuff out too! Thanks for watching and enjoy!
The fact that this game has no release on modern consoles (remaster not necessary) is a tragedy. Some good achievements could make this game so much more fun than it already is (and I consider it a 10 out of 10 already). Was a fan of this since day 1 when my friends and I thought Aya looked absolutely awesome in the promo material.
I played the game for the first 30 minutes one day after work around 1999 and was blown away by the game. Never did spend any more time on the game after that. In the very near future will pick the game up and play it to the end. It is a very under rated game.
I’m actually playing this right now. This is really good. I thought this was the Squares versus against Calvin’s Resident Evil. I need Square Enix to redo this like they did FF7… this game has soo many possibilities now. Even for a part 3-4 or whoever. Resident Evil been going on forever like old school horror movies. Nightmare on Elm, Friday, Halloween and so on.
I have very fond memories of PE but i cant imagine the gameplay holds up in 2024. I havent loaded it up on my old consoles out of fear ill break my rose colored glasses
I play through this game every couple of Christmases lol. Its one of my favorites. You can get the game down to less than 10hrs when you know what you doing. This is a top ten game for me. I have mixed feelings about PE2 since im not really a huge Resident Evil player and the third game...well...we dont talk about that one
Hahaha yes, I’ve heard to whispers of the 3rd one. Still keen to try it myself after 2, but I’m sure it’ll be just as bad as people say 😂 Thanks for watching!
Part of truly regrets selling the one copy I had of this game before I ever played it. Awesome video this really makes me want to poke up the game again only if it wasn't so expensive
I remember playing this game as a 14 year old and loving it thoroughly. Should note, while it looks pretty good in the clips here, I played it on a 32 inch tube TV and it was very grainy by todays standards ha ha. I Seem to remember going into Eve fight with very little ammo but having my file saved at the helicopter ride into the Eve battle and never being able to down her. Great game though, should do Soul Reaver next!
Parasite Eve is an awesome game! I absolutely loved the story; it kept me fully invested from start to finish. Also, one of the best video game soundtracks EVER! This game deserves a remake/ remaster!
I've played over 100 hours, maybe even 200 between NG and NG+ runs. Quite possibly a contender for my favorite game of all time. But not flawless though, I definitely understand how most people it could very well be a one and done, if even that. Also, it possibly has one of the worst potential screw you over issues, as it became clear to me that putting all my stat mods onto one gun and one armor, and then only switching my main gear to a good one with better base stats was the way to go, while also being very careful about putting base stats onto anything with a unique mod. If you destroy gear for the wrong reason, like dumping base stats on it, then removing one of its mods later, you lose the base stats bonuses. I think there's like 2 super tools in the entire NG play through to compensate. I think the community agrees that a handgun or SMG are best due to AT and fire rate (not the official stat fire rate, but the time between each individual shot), I'd say maybe a rifle as well if you want the boosted range. Especially by the end of a NG+ run, I'm using an SMG with 3x command, shotgun shell mod, and I remove the rate of fire down to 1 bullet per command (due to damage per bullet consumption calculations). I can't recall half the other positive mods to use, but that's the core gun build I make. You get turns fast, SMGs unload fast, hit everything you a cone, and by NG+ you'll get so many range bonuses it won't matter, especially after getting the took kit and super tool kit, allowing you to break down everything you get your hands on to power up your main gear.
Yeah, as I was playing and even editing, I was discovering more and more depth to the customization mechanics. I could easily go through multiple play-throughs to figure some of this stuff out and who knows? Maybe I will. It's a good, tight, creepy game, perfect for October. But I want to hit up Parasite Eve 2 first. Got any hot tips for that one?
My go-to was always to just have two weapons, a shotgun for the trash and a pistol for bosses. The shotgun got the heat/cold duo and acid/tranq/cyanide trio, the pistol was just all damage and critical damage. I can't remember how it worked, but there was some synergy between low AT/fire rate, damage-over-time, and the chance of random effects proccing that made the slow weapons better for handling hall trash.
Honestly the gameplay wasn’t too bad and I feel a few tweaks would go a long way. I know Square had a bunch of remaster/remake plans, so maybe we’ll see this one show up again!
Parasite has been one of my favourite games since it came out. Need a Remake that uses the same battle system. It's a shame we only got 2 games in the series but I also like the 2nd game.
Yeah, I’d love to have seen them take another crack at this battle system with some tune ups. But hopefully we’ll see a remaster or remake one day! Just… you know, hopefully a remake that’s got the same battle system 😂 Thanks for watching!
But you keep replaying it 😉 I get it, though. I like the concept of the battle system, but I do wish they iterated on it to improve it. It would have been unique enough to find how to improve what’s here instead of going full action. But thanks for watching!
Nice review, and I just finished playing through this again a month ago. Good luck building up on TH-cam. Its a great game. The second loses the great combat of the first, and please don't play the third total character assassination (sorta).
Haha I’ve heard about the third, but I’m tempted to try it at some point. Call it morbid curiosity 😂 The 2nd will be first, though! Thanks for watching!
@@retrobrandon it's truly horrible. First, her personality is completely changed from the first two games (like other m) then she's turned into a wifu the rest of the game, till the end tries to explain it all, and it's depressing. Play at your own peril it you like 1 and 2. =)
Parasite Eve is definitely one of my favorites of all time. The game was amazing for it's release time. In today's world, yea, it leaves a lot to be desired as far as gameplay controls, which is why I WISH they would make a modern day remake and bring it up to the times. I would buy that on day 1.
i love parasite eve, i remember when it came out, i was looking for a new game to sink my teeth into, and i had countless hours of fun with it. i think this game would be great for a remake, fully 3 dimensional, with actual analogue support.
One of my favorite games of all time. This game deserves a remake. I feel like they can use the FF7 remake trilogy battle system as the blue print. The action/ATB works perfectly.
a resident evil like game with RPG element. the story was engaging enough. what kept me going was the battle gameplay and finding stuff to modify the weapons I find.
What are talking brother 😯 !? This is among the one of best games existed. In my state it didn't even had a proper working disc for it until i had to wait years to get the iso from web.
I played the shit out of this game in 98, still have my original copy. I was playing a lot of Square anything and the Resident Evil & Dino Crisis games back then, so it's no surprise. One thing I enjoyed was the weapon system and customizing your loadout. This is especially true once you hit that Chrysler Building marathon dungeon and NG+ runs. I remember there being a few tough fights during that journey, and speaking of fights the combat system is great and I had a lot of fun with it. I just found this video via algorithm so I don't know if it's been covered on the channel yet, but I would definitely do an episode on Vagrant Story. Another banger Square game, more of a dungeon crawler/platformer RPG that seems to borrow the PE combat system, or a modified version of it. It too has a complex weapon and armor system with some pretty deep crafting. The story is fantastic, and the graphics were awesome at the time, some of the best that late PS1 releases could offer.
Haha it’s funny that you mention Vagrant story. I’m currently getting my butt handed to me with that game, so I’ll definitely be covering it in the future! 😂 Thanks for watching!
@@retrobrandon Yeah, it's a tough one. Just wait until you get to the point where you're grinding the challenge dungeon for Damascus equipment... ugh. And then there's that um resistance mechanic or whatever on your equipment. It takes forever to build out top shelf gear. That game's got a special place in my nostalgia. I got it when it came out, right before I moved to a new town that summer in preparation for high school. The story is absolutely killer and I love that it ties into the world of one of my favorite games, FFT.
It's good until near the ending at least. They go full Satan and include an easy but incredibly long boss fight and then drop you into a one-hit-kill trial and error maze to be chased through where any wrong turn is fatal. And if you die there are no save points after that long af boss. So you can fight it again! Yayyyyy!
I believe the story makes more sense if you know that one Japanese movie. I forgot it's name. I personally love retro games and must do at least 10 more runs of Blazing Sword to get all the supports. Especially from characters I never use. Sain sucks and I never even get Harken to appear, because I always overtrain. And also Wallace. Which means I need to start undertraining my lords. Or just start without Lyn mode so her level is low enough to get Wallace. Anyway, I recently bought Falcoms Zwei games and feel the urge to buy Chrono Trigger. Kommi is playing it. It is so good. I love it. I hope you enjoy Koudelka and Shadow Hearts when you get there one day. SH is amazing. I love it so much.
Funny that you mention Blazing Sword because that’s up next! I really want to get to Koudelka and Shadow Hearts, but Koudelka is so expensive and I like buying the physical before making a video on it. But I will find a way! Thanks for watching! Always love seeing your comments 😃
Did you ever make Aya transform during battles? As the game progresses and Aya gets stronger she gets powers eventually getting a power where she can transform into her ultimate form during battles. The transformation doesn't last long but it's pretty cool.

@@Sir4everKcRoyal i think alot of what made third birthday so bad to most is the controls were awful. Grind got ridiculous too after a bit.
Try out Vagrant Story when you can. It's medieval horror pseudo-action rpg.
@@spearsage I've played some of Vagrant Story but now that you mention it it does have some dark gothic themes
Shadow hearts is 10/10 wish it was playable on modern consoles, still have the original physical copies
I've been dying for a remake of this series
Now I’m in the same boat!
I grew up during the psx/n64 era, and I never played PE until about 3 years ago. I loved it.
The save before the final boss and all of the cutscenes/dialog you had to sit through were brutal. If you died, you have to sit through it all again.
Yeah, that’s kind of classic old rpg that could be rough. Still great! But save states with emulation are a must 😂
What I love about this game is that you can keep upgrading some of your weapons on and on and on...I still remember after 3 run throughs, I have an uzi type weapon that can hit like a cannon.
saying the game was praised amongst the competition at the time while missing the fact that that's how good gaming was back then, bangers EVERYWHERE, unlike todays gaming
Until you do the optional Chrysler building path. Then it's a lot of grinding 😅
I LOVED PEII more than 1 personally. But they are underrated. Aya Brea is awesome too
Yep, up to that one down the road!
Probably Square's 5th best PS1 game behind FF7, Xenogears, FF9, and FFT.
Highly recommended.
Those other ones are fantastic! Never got to Xenogears, so that one is on the list for one of these types of videos

I LOVE parasite Eve and have watched alot of videos on the game, I’ve never seen anyone make the cloud to aya and Daniel to Barret comparisons so kudos for that, I never thought about it before but can definitely see it now 👍🏾
Awesome, glad you liked it! Thanks for watching 😄
13:36 my interpretation of the mitochondria plot was they were the key to evolution. as the saying goes, they are the powerhouse of the cell. so it can be inferred mitochondria exist in all cells, not just humans. hence the animals also evolving/mutating. i believe they can also be found in plant cells, but that's a whole other biology lesson. the plotline in the original book asks the question "what if mitochondria had an ulterior motive in allowing us to evolve to this point?" and so Eve's goal was to give birth to the next step in evolution. which would one day wipe out humanity as we know it and take over the world. much like how homo sapiens wiped out neanderthals and whatnot, as our old science textbooks will tell you
thing is, Eve has a bit of a bias, and will only mate/get a sample from someone who understands this concept.
(That's why Aya's the only one who can harm and kill mitochondrial creatures, by the way.)
So, when Melissa Pierce and Aya come into close proximity with each other (the opera), the two Eves awaken and initiate a conflict over which will go on to control the mitochondrial hive mind.
@@eacaraxe this is BY FAR the best explanation of the game's story that I have ever seen ANYWHERE. 👏🏿
Really it’s just my excuse to build the collection 😉
Anyway, thanks for watching!
Both are amazing games! I honestly would choose PE as well, but it'd be hard.
I'm SO sorry that you had to make such a difficult choice as a child. That would be like choosing which of my children is my favorite. Those are my two ALL TIME FAVORITE games.
May be the most atmospheric game on the PS...something about an urban environment in Winter that they nailed...
Yeah, and the Christmas context is super interesting too. Even by today’s standard, this game feels so unique!
Thanks for watching 🙂
Parasite Eve looks amazing! I already knew about it but your indepth look made me want to play it.
Also, absolutely brilliant editing, Brandon! Chefs kiss.
I saw I got a comment from you and I rushed over here to look! Haha thanks for watching, brother!
The hypothetical detective Joe looks pretty awesome
He really does. I think he would have been a fantastic main character, personally. 😉
Fun little tidbit with your PE points: they regenerate in battle, but it slows down after multiple PE power usage. You can circumvent this by equipping a second armor to restart the regeneration speed.
Ooooooooh, didn’t know this!
@@retrobrandon If you are going to do that, make sure the second armor is also decent with good effects and stats. You don't want to swap to something weak in a tough fight.

As a person who did back to back runs and took on the Chrysler Building a couple weeks ago:
Yes. It is that good. I’m honesty over remakes, but hear me out….PARASITE EVE
And 1998.
One of my favorites.
The Chrysler tower challenge was endless hours of fun finding that ideal weapon mod.
2 was good too.
Played this game myself, about 2 weeks ago.
Emulated for improved graphics.
The answer is yes.
This game is freaking awesome.
Even today.
Nice! Yeah, emulation is great for these older titles!
Oh mumma, the editing in this is so good! Love the skits sprinkled throughout as well, and I felt invested in the story just from you talking about the premise alone. Great job, brother! ❤
Thanks, dude! Thanks for watching! I had a lot of fun with the editing in this one, especially figuring out a way to bring Knight in 😂
12:40 when eve gets close to normal humans (non-eve cells) they combust/transform/etc, so just her presence or aura is enough to "lower their defenses" (and then some) so to speak, so it makes sense that eve and eve-monsters being in the presence of aya (eve cells... maya cells?) would have a similar effect, like neutralizing their "aura" or "field" enough to the point that they're now susceptible to conventional weapons
I was OBSESSED with this game when it came out. I was 10 years old and was too scared to play the game past the sewer, so I never actually finished it. I played that first hour over and over again until my boyfriend played through the entire game for me years later.
I played it recently this year on my phone. Still amazing, and still very much so deserves/needs a remake
One golden nugget this game is. The boss music is fantastic. I think its called U.B in the OST. Intense beautiful song!
Great game
I love this game and still play it through every couple years. I still have the same copy I bought the week it released in 1998
That’s amazing! I definitely missed it back in the day, so grateful to have a chance to play and a channel to chat about it!

That’s awesome, congrats! Thanks for watching!
Agreed! I would love to see some modern output of some sort. But until then, I’ll keep hunting these old games down. Thanks for watching!

i can remember when it came out i was 12 and it was xmas... i would love to see a remake of this one!
I own the novel that the game branched from. It freaked me out, and had me on edge for weeks after I finished it
i just started replaying it a couple days ago. lol the odds of this getting suggested are weird but i am here for it.
I remember my friend's dad playing this game when we were kids. We loved watching him, we used to sit there and pretend we weren't shitting ourselves.
Hahah that’s amazing!
I have very fond memories of PE but i cant imagine the gameplay holds up in 2024. I havent loaded it up on my old consoles out of fear ill break my rose colored glasses
It’s definitely a bit clunky, but honestly, it didn’t bother me much at all. And I had no rose colored glasses to break! Haha

Still keen to try it myself after 2, but I’m sure it’ll be just as bad as people say 😂

Seeing that radiata stories case takes me back
I've played over 100 hours, maybe even 200 between NG and NG+ runs.
I really dig the presentation of old PS One games, if only they could be touched up a tiny bit...the archaic gameplay, not so much.
Honestly the gameplay wasn’t too bad and I feel a few tweaks would go a long way. I know Square had a bunch of remaster/remake plans, so maybe we’ll see this one show up again!
I beat this game yearly around Christmas. It's that good.
I keep replaying it. It's fine. I was never a fan of the combat which felt like... take a couple shots and run away until it's time to shoot again.
But you keep replaying it 😉
I get it, though.

One of my favorite games of all time. This game deserves a remake. I feel like they can use the FF7 remake trilogy battle system as the blue print. The action/ATB works perfectly.
Loved both the 1st & 2nd game. They really deserve the remake treatment.
Absolutely love this game. Story is still awesome and combat still fun. 100 floor tower gets unlocked after u beat game as well.
a resident evil like game with RPG element. the story was engaging enough. what kept me going was the battle gameplay and finding stuff to modify the weapons I find.
Yayyyyy!
And this is why I love save states 😂

The music in this game is something else
