You singlehandedly convinced me to watch Nativity 2: Danger in the Manger this year. Thank you.

Excellent post as always. So much to discuss that you've nailed brilliantly here. David as the dad standing up unadbashedly for what is obviously right with no hesitation, Nativity 2, Danger in the Manger is so complex with so many life dramas that is delivered in a brillant light hearted story that you want to watch it over and over again, and Good - oh my a dissertation could be written about his peformance there. I saw it in the theater a couple of years ago and even though I knew what was coming, when he put on the uniform I still gasped "nooooooooo" and when at the end she asks "We're still good aren't we?" Chilling....partly because it is so relevant now. I could go on and on, but allow me to say enjoy your vacation and congratulations on getting to meet the man who means so much to you.

Ok I still ha e to finish the video and I'm crying about what are you saying about the 14th Doctor and David!😭😭😭For me, seeing both his Doctor and Donna happy and together really really healed something in me! I started watching Doctor Who when I was like 17 years old, starting from the Classical series. Then I went on with Modern Who and fell in love more with the show thanks to the 10th Doctor and David. I used the show to learn English (now I speak with a British accent when I speak English😅). So for me this show is really important and I releated with Donna everytime she felt useless or not appreciated.💙 ok time to finish the video, sorry for the long comment!

i LOVE the section on good, you really nailed what really worked about that play for me and why it was so harrowing to watch. halder was never really a particularly "good" person to begin with, you could see how self-absorbed and how lacking in self-awareness he was from the start. every scene between halder and maurice was played to perfection but god it was so sickening to see it all unfold. i think maybe a common thing that david brings to his roles is humanity (it's why rtd cast him as casanova and later the doctor). but it works in the opposite direction with halder - he is a terrible person, but he's not cartoonishly evil, all his terrible qualities are so ordinary and banal and capable of being found in our everyday lives.
also 10/10 on the nativity 2 review lmfao. cinematic masterpiece of all time

I absolutely loved this! I share a lot of the thoughts on the projects I’ve seen, and I’m sure I’ll share the thoughts when I get to the DW specials (I’ve gotten pretty much all the spoilers mentioning on tumblr so 14’s part of the video wasn’t anything surprise ruining).
I just wanted to say thank you for making the initial essay and this extension. The videos have introduced me to a brilliant actor I have come to adore and many TV shows I may not have discovered otherwise, like ATWI80D and Hamlet (I am definitely going to be more invested in the Shakespeare unit in high school). Now I have even more projects to check out (Except Maurice, if the David Tennant expert is calling it their least favorite performance of his then it’s definitely not worth my time) and a massive amount of animatics turning about in my brain (if someone made an animatic of Ends of the Earth by Lord Huron with Phileas Fogg, what would you think?)!

Ohhh that could be beautiful!!! I personally have so many Phileas songs I would do edits with if there were more scenes on TH-cam (check out my playlist of his)

Expectations met AND exceeded. I've only experienced about half of the shows you mentioned and it's still so damn entertaining to watch you talk about things.
2:20 How is this so iconic. Like I already knew what you were going to say and still. It's giving "That wise person was me. I just made that up!"
2:59 They should use this for the next season I think. What if you were the real time vortex all along?
4:08 Yeah the explanation for DoctorDonna being manageable was a little hand-wavey.
4:10 I actually have a theory that the 'mavity' gag, which they have continued with, is an indicator of the specific timeline they're in, since it's a direct result of the TARDIS malfunctioning (although it wasn't addressed in the finale so who knows).
4:51 I mean, yeah, he literally splits in two, of course it's divisive.
6:39 I've probably said this before, but if you had told me a year ago which season, of Good Omens 2 and Doctor Who 60, would have a devastating and earth shattering plot twist that traumatized the fandom and left everyone depressed and which would have a sweet, domestic ending that made me feel warm inside, I wouldn't have believed you.
7:20 'TARDIS zoomies' is the perfect way to describe that, amazing.
11:24 "May we all grow to have the compassion for our former selves that 15 shows for 14 in this scene, and may we all embrace the beauty that comes with having lived rather than shying away from it." And that's why I'm subscribed. Anyone could talk about how amazing his performance was, but you synthesize the impact of these moments so well.
12:18 You say this and yet at 19:04 you just say "Nativity 2!" WHAT IS THE TRUTH.
13:15 DAVINA MY BELOVED I COULD WATCH CLIPS OF HER FOR HOURS SHE'S SO LOVELY. Also insane of you to have I/Me/Myself music in the background.
14:02 Why is this the funniest thing I've seen in my life.
15:06 I feel like the accent comes out so self-assured and slimy that it's harder to forgive him for his manipulation. Casanova and Peter Carlisle are so sweet and vulnerable and down bad that it's easier to like them despite the immoral things they do. Rex has hurtful things happen to him, but you never feel like he's letting himself be vulnerable. It's like every conversation he has is a logical trap to convince people to agree with him, and it's almost easier to see why the people in his life are frustrated with him. I think the idea of a lawyer figuring out how to be genuine with people instead of manipulating them logically is a fascinating concept, but they were trying to sell the coolness of him in a way that just didn't work. He doesn't feel like the underdog, he seems like a jerk who people are rightfully trying to avoid. If we're supposed to root for him to get the girl back, we shouldn't agree with why she left him.
16:10 Ahhh yes the inevitable Phileas Fogg in episode 4 mention. It's honestly kind of hilarious that you mentioned Phileas as many times as you did in this video, given that you're not technically reviewing AtWi80D.
16:27 YES OUR GROWING BRANCH GETS A MENTION! DT IN A MUSICAL PEEPS REPRESENT!!!
18:03 I do feel like this character is maybe the closest representation of the contrast between how fascinating and alluring people find David and how he sees himself. There's a moment at the end when (I think) Dora is telling him how good he is and how decent of a person he is that just rang so true. You might get hooked on David for the charm but I feel like it's the loveliness of him as a person that keeps you invested.
19:39 How is this so attractive to me. Like it's just his back but it's so...graceful?
20:50 Bruh where's the Schoenberg content warning?
    21:25 LET LAUREN SWEAR ON TH-cam 2024!!
22:46 YEAHHH PETER AND THE WOLF AND JAZZ!!! Honestly I love the music so much that his narration isn't even the most exciting part for me.
23:18 Why is his face so damn captivating when it's not even in the final product.
23:33 THE BOY LET'S GOOOOO!! WELL DONE, TEAM!
25:37 Not the 14 Losing It Scene in the middle of my Lauren Rogers Losing It Scene bemoaning the lack of David Tennant Losing It Scene!
    26:47 Yeah that's. Yeah. Damn.
27:33 Murdering children beard? Oh my GOD.
27:50 I don't know that we can assume he suffers mentally from playing bad people. I'm sure he has some level of separation. And it's not like his nicer characters don't go through insanely traumatizing things (all the Losing It Scenes, of course). It's not that I think he had a bunch of fun playing these psychopaths, but it's no less of an opportunity to inhabit a character to tell a story, which is what David likes about acting, no?
31:12 I didn't watch Good because I assumed it would terrify me, and I'm honestly glad I didn't. But kudos to the writing, directing, and David, of course, for bringing out these incredibly important themes.
31:32 I feel like this speaks to a point you brought up in the original Weird and Wonderful, that David is a leading man with the soul of a character actor. The reason his heroes/sympathetic main characters are so compelling is because he plays them with the fascinating choices that actors might make more with villains. Even the super normal, average protagonists he plays have a kind of complexity or strangeness that is magnetic.
31:52 I wonder where Brendan Block would fit on this scale. He's super charming, right?
32:52 I'm still annoyed at you for getting me into Will Wood. Like it's not like I needed more special interests to be rambling about! But jam that square peg in the round hole in my heart, I guess.
33:02 You HAVE to let me know how Romeo & Juliet is.
33:13 I have not had nearly enough time to get over this. Also RIP headphone users.

I was so glad when I saw this update!! I think he is great in Criminal UK, he plays it enough of a human and enough of a monster. Also, your words about 14 almost moved me to tears, that hug was so real. The clip from Kafka the musical moved me in a way only theatre does and it was just a snippet! This man is an incredible actor.
I recently asked you if he'd be a good Baker in Into the Woods and because I love overanalysis could you explain why? You have studied musical theatre after all
Ps: Can we also mention how brilliant he is in changing his posture? And his voice?? The way he carries words I mean. Just look at Crowley and John Halder. This is not the same person!

Baker is right in David’s vocal sweet spot (a light baritenor). He requires an actor with a down to earth presence who can be both funny and devastating. His vocal range isn’t super demanding, many of his songs can be speak-sung. I would personally love to see David and Catherine do It Takes Two, it’s quite a Beatrice and Benedick song in my opinion! I think David could pull of just about any Sondheim leading man honestly, jsut like Shakespeare it’s all about the way you choose to flavor the words.

this has nothing to do with David tennant, but if you do make a Christmas special along with Navity 2: Danger in the manger, would you be open to watching Tokyo godfathers? It’s free on Amazon and while David isn’t in it, I feel like it’s a beautiful very underrated, animated tragicomedy made by the late great satoshi kon. I need more people to watch this movie. Great video and looking forward to more David tennant or even full metal alchemist: brotherhood the musical.
