I sometimes still giggle about the fact that Russel.T.Davies wrote a whole episode just for David Tennant to say the line "Judoon platoon upon the moon" because Davies knew David would have a hard time saying the "-oon" without reverting back to his Scottish accent 😂 what a gem
His Richard II and Benedick are top knotch as well. Tennant has produced a plethora of Oscar worthy roles. But what makes him even more appealing is that he takes on roles he loves and wants to embody. Awards are not his focus. His reward, I've heard him oft remark is consistent employment. I just love that about him. In fact, he has never even won a BAFTA, the British Oscar. He will host the BAFTAs in two weeks, yet, and hold your hat, he has NEVER even been nominated for one.
And Macbeth. DO NOT GET ME STARTED! That man does everything superbly - from the broadest comedy to the subtlest drama to heart-rending tragedy. He deserves ALL the awards.
PS: What is even more praiseworthy is that Tennant turns down projects that interfere with his personal life. He prioritizes quality time with his children vs. taking roles that might bring more award visibility.
@Sasha05 Agreed 💯 There are many more like DES (I learned that he had lived doors diwn from where those murders were committed at the time they were being committed), Bad Samaritan, 80 Days Around The World, The Russian Poisoned (Litchenko - spelling) Jessica Jones even, What We Did On Our Holiday. The fact that he prioritizes his family, and stands to his moral compass, such as declining an OBE offered to be conferred by the Royal Family add to his aura, allure but also to his humility and lack of even a BAFTA nomination. YET, next week he will host the BAFTA, which demonstrates his sense of humor and magnanimous nature.
@@yubantwo2086 I agree totally on DT's prioritizing roles that raise questions about the human condition and his unwavering loyalty to family and his own sense of morality and just trying to be the best person he can, very rare these days. I was lucky enough to spot an advertisement for a Doctor Who event taking place in NYC a few years ago. It was David, Matt Smith and Alex Kingston discussing Doctor Who. We laughed for almost 3 hours listening to them tell stories about Doctor Who. David is very humble. It just so happened to be the weekend of New York Comic Con. As a result I was able to meet and get autographs with David, Matt and Alex. I got to chat with Alex for about 10 minutes. I also got to enjoy the Good Omens panels which were a lot of fun. Near the end of the weekend, I found out that the reason for event and the appearance of David, Matt and Alex at NYCC. That Sunday was the first episode of Jodi Whitaker as Doctor Who. They showed it on a screen in one of the largest theater venues they had available where I watched it with hundreds of other Doctor Who fans. It was one of the most enjoyable weekends I have ever had.

It’s a pretty good overview of one of the finest actors of his generation. But for the sake of grammar, Sir Terry Pratchett’s name isn’t “pruhTCETTE”, it’s PRAT-chet”. And Crowley is pronounced like the bird “crow” in front.
cassanova was when i first saw david, i was in love so much so when eccleston regenerated i stood and screamed 'cassanova!' infront of everyone in the room..
17:15 if that girl looks familiar to anyone who has seen Good Omens, that's because she's Nina Sosanya who who played Sister Mary Loquacious. She also was the mom in the Doctor who episode Fear Her.
It is the Bentely in Good Omens that likes Queen. The Bentely will turn any cassette left in the car more than two weeks into a Queen's Best Of album. Crowley likes a wide variety of music, most especially "The Velvet Underground" with songs like "Pale Blue Eyes" "I'll Be Your Mirror" and " The Black Angel's Death Song."

I liked Broadchurch but certainly loved him in Much Ado about nothing along with many of the other roles you mentioned. @krab1791 I didn't forget Good Omens. Crowley is one of my all time favorite roles of his (or anyone else's. I am absolutely obsessed with that character). Your favorite Alex Hardy, I love as I love his Peter Vincent, the Vicar in Inside Man (not the movie but DT's role as the Vicar) and many more portrayals. I was naming what are the best of the best roles as far as range and emotional depth go (not to forget Campbell Bain in 'Taking Over The Asylum' and Casanova. Oddly enough (& 'don't know what this means), but as much as I admire his Kilgrave, I didn't find the character scary. I think that has to do with the fact that Tennant always manages to find and portray the humanity and authentic motivations in all of the characters he takes on. Episode 9 of Jessica Jones is Tennant's favorite from the series I heard him say in an interview. It's pretty intense, but it's worth going back and viewing to the end. I know of no other actor alive or dead whose body of work encompasses the silly and suave, goofy and gorgeous villan and victor while effortlessly oozing sex appeal and empathy, to be found in one actor. That he's a humble family man void of airs with a great sense of humor expressing sincere interest in humanity, makes him all the more appealing and addictive.
It should also be pointed out that Crowley "doesn't love Queen songs" .. its just that any cassette tape left in a car for a long enough period of time .. will magically convert into a Queen album .. I imagine that Gaiman had issues with the footnotes .. which contain some of the funniest stuff
While that is totally true of the book, it felt to me in the screen adaptation/series that Crowley's character as played masterfully by Tennant has become inextricably linked with Queen's music to the enhancement of both. Interestingly Brian May turned down Neil Gaiman's request to use their music for the radio play of GO, but changed his mind for the screen version. Since in the book Queen's music is portrayed as a comical nuisance, it also would have been churlish, to use one of David Tennant's oft used words, to not properly honour it on film. Totally agree re: footnotes.
@@aidanmargarson8910 I know! Neil Gaiman said a) budget and b) some of the episodes would have been disproportionately long. Sort of glad it wasn't a slavish reproduction but perfectly suited to the medium. But seriously I'm on my 5th copy of the book, keep giving them to friends😊

I love David so loved this video thanks so much. ( your pronunciation of Glasgow ( glaz go) and Edinburgh ( edin bra) rankle just a wee bit here in Scotland lol. Again thanks you covered so much 👏👏👏
56:00 David auditioned for Hannibal the series !!! WHAT! That’s one of my favorite series ever made. 😆I would have also killed and eat somebody to see him play a character against Mads Mikkelsen’s Hannibal 🤣
They say that the actor who played the 9th Doctor looked like a young Peter Capaldi, but I believe that the mannerisms of the 12th Doctor are much more similar to the mannerisms of the 10th Doctor, which is why I have both the 10th and 12th Doctors down as my favorite regenerations of Doctor Who.
I like David Tennant, he’s my second favorite Dr after Matt Smith (the all time best imho) but I like him quite a bit in some of his other roles, although it’s tough getting your brain to adjust that you aren’t watching the 10th Dr pretending to be a demon in Good Omens, hahaha. I mean, Dr Who is where most of us first met Tennant, so it always takes me 10-15 min for my brain not to think “oh hey, there’s the Doctor” in something that isn’t Dr Who.
I'm torn between DT's Hamlet and Kenneth Branagh's, not fair comparison tho, since Branaugh's was huge budget made for big screen. DT's was more intimate, less spectacle, so rate them both.😊😊
How could "Cedric" be voted better dressed than David? Hugh Jackman is the only man who might look better. Or classic Sean Conery, or Johnathan Taylor Thomas. IMO........ 😅 Definitely needed to watch more of David's work.
I admire David - he gets a Script - and becomes it! He is great - he is Special like Robin Williams and others - not Many People have that ability to have it - a person who has it inside you! So whatever he plays a script he will be good in it - he would try to be it 💯 Percent as Best he could!
I adored him as the doctor ❤and I love his Hamlet. Yea, love shakespear also😅 but he is easy to love. David that is don't know if shakespear is real😅 love his writing lol
Very well done. Just one area needing focus-the pronunciation of quite a few words. Perhaps the VO could run over the text with someone knowledgeable prior to recording. Otherwise, well organized and informative.
Very interesting and seems well researched, but the narrator needs to invest a bit of time into learning the proper pronounciation of names. Sorry to be such a stickler, but it's Davison, not Davidson, and it's certainly not PratchEtt, just as examples. Also, in the introduction there's a clear mix up of Hamlet and Romeo.
I can honestly say that he is one actor that i genuinely like absolutely everything i have ever seen him in. I've read tons of Gaiman and I don't think there is anyone else on Earth who could have fit better than David in the role of Crowley in Good Omens. He is just so clever and funny and talented. A joy to watch.(And a pretty good dancer, i should know I've taught dance classes). If i ever get a dying wish, I'd like to have a dance with him.😏✨🩵✨
I wonder why the narrator read all the remarks by DT and others interviewed. It woujd have been much more enjoyable to hear them speak in their own voices!
Maybe it's just a bad case of heartburn from that Third Dagwood Sammich I ate today, but.... Does anyone else see David Tennant, and think to themselves, "You know....He could be cast as a Younger Brother to Hugh Jackman's Character, in whatever movie you'd like.... and... everyone in the Industry would look at that, and the poor bastard would be typecast from that point forward as Wolverine's kid brother, Doctor Who!" Only problem is Daniel Radcliffe. Harry Potter Himself. Now.... if Hugh, David, and Radcliffe got into a flick together... Here's a thought: a 80's Newhart Sendup: Hugh, David, and Daniel Radcliffe walk into that Vermont B&B, and Hugh goes..... "Hi I'm Larry... this my brother Daryl... this is my other brother, Darrell.:
I wish I could like Tennant's Doctor, but for some reason, I never have. To me, his fanboy-ism over the character has always shined through way too much in that role. But anyway, I love Tennant in other roles. He's a good actor, I just dislike this particular role of his. The fact that it is so popular actually baffled me for a long time - I just cannot see what they are seeing in the 10th Doctor. I like the written version of the 10th Doctor fine and some writers write him quite well, but Tennant? Nope, do not like his version. It's so weird, when I do like the actor, but really do not like his most popular role. By the way, completely love Broadchurch - also Olivia Coleman was also excellent in that series. Well made biography.
Heh. Being an anxious person but yet being perceived as a confident one? I thought before that I'm pretty sure I would like him as a person if we ever met in real life, but this confirmed it. I am the same way - I must be great at bluffing considering how most people can't see how uncertain I am.
😮 Chiswick is _not_ pronounced "Chiswick" .. it's 'Chis-ick' the 'w' is silent. (Just as the "w' is also silent in 'Southwark' in South London - is correctly pronounced 'Suth-ark') ...sigh!

My skin crawls and she's launching something for the BAFTA awards let her keep to her channel and get help.
I think once again your experience was wonderful. Sometimes it's great to meet one's heroes. Forgive an old lady with some scary memories. Cheers tx for your lovely vr real story. Cherish it!
At the 1:15:53 point, when David is quoted as saying that you (I assume he means a former Dr. Who actor) spend your years away from Dr. Who, thinking of ideas, thinking how he would expand it, thinking of stories...that reminds me that Tom Baker said something similar.
...and did. Tom Baker wrote Scratchman, which is worth a read.
@@VeracityLH Yes, thanks, I've heard about it. I wonder if I'll be able to get a copy on this side of the pond.
this is a very nice video, well researched, thank you
i learned some new stuff through it which is always amazing if you thought you already knew the majority of information ^^
I fucking LOVE this guy!!!! From Harry Potter to Doctor who as the TENTH Doctor, he's FUCKING hilarious and a GENIUS in the series!!! Much Love to my brother!!! he's a FANTASTIC ACTOR, good guy or villain; he's SO universal and hilarious IRL!!!
First production I saw him in was Casanova. Thought, he's fab!
A wa-hoo to david tennant, I appreciate him in any role, my favorite ever 🤙
Great video. I am going to add it to my good omens playlist.
tenth doctor and fourteen doctor is my favourite doctors from doctor who and l haven't watch good omens and david tennant is one of my favourite actors
i greatly enjoyed the video and the effort put into something this long must've been enormous! the one weird thing is i quite often tripped over odd prounciations like for example pratchET instead of PRATchet and crowley with an a instead of an o. i think david is a guy you can only describe with "everyone loves him" and for good reason too!
I love David so loved this video thanks so much. ( your pronunciation of Glasgow ( glaz go) and Edinburgh ( edin bra) rankle just a wee bit here in Scotland lol. Again thanks you covered so much 👏👏👏
Awesome biography!!! 💜
I don't know why the makers decided to read David's words instead of letting us see and her the original footage.
Thank you for this!!!
I wish you'd mentioned "United". You show scenes, but never mention the movie. It's one of my favorites.
His son in House of the Dragon is just like him!
My favorite doctor
Great summary. Watched it with delight 😊👍.
His Kilgrave on Jessica Jones is the most frightening villain I’ve ever seen.
56:00 David auditioned for Hannibal the series !!! WHAT! That’s one of my favorite series ever made. 😆I would have also killed and eat somebody to see him play a character against Mads Mikkelsen’s Hannibal 🤣
Actually Coleman was told who the killer on Broadchurch was beforehand. She mentioned this on The Graham Norton Show.
18:32 Yes. Yes he does.
Please do a video on Spielberg 🙏
They say that the actor who played the 9th Doctor looked like a young Peter Capaldi, but I believe that the mannerisms of the 12th Doctor are much more similar to the mannerisms of the 10th Doctor, which is why I have both the 10th and 12th Doctors down as my favorite regenerations of Doctor Who.
We need this with Peter Capaldi!
I second, third, and fourth this motion! 🙋🙋🙋
Bojangles Macduff. 🤣😂🤣🤣
Wait, did the intro just say a "touching Romeo" with the Yorick scene from Hamlet playing in the background?! /facepalm
Love the fact that my first time hearing Tennants voice as a kid was from Scrooge McDuck
David’s oldest daughter’s name is Olive. Not Olivia.
Ther is müllers büro, which is a crime story musical with a detective movie.
Baker was my first Doctor Who too
My favorite Hamlet.
I'm torn between DT's Hamlet and Kenneth Branagh's, not fair comparison tho, since Branaugh's was huge budget made for big screen. DT's was more intimate, less spectacle, so rate them both.😊😊
HIS CHARACTER, CRAWLY, IN "GOOD OMENS" HAD EUCH A SEXY SWAGGER!!!❤💋💋❤💋💋
i will never understand how aziraphale could leave that!
David Tennent suffering from imposter sydrome makes me feel a lot better about my own.
nice one. A+ documentary.
Ty for video🥰
How could "Cedric" be voted better dressed than David? Hugh Jackman is the only man who might look better. Or classic Sean Conery, or Johnathan Taylor Thomas. IMO........ 😅
Definitely needed to watch more of David's work.
BroadChurch!!!
David and Doctor who ❤
David Tennant, undisputed world champion of dramatic hairlines.
Very well done. Just one area needing focus-the pronunciation of quite a few words. Perhaps the VO could run over the text with someone knowledgeable prior to recording. Otherwise, well organized and informative.
Oh, heck, I can just see it now. The Tenth Doctor played by Bojangles MacDuff.
Sadly the american voice over and the missing original voice of David disrupt the documentary.
Que si me vi un video de 1 hora 20 mins de la vida de David Tennant?
Yo: Siiiii
You might want to do a little editing...that's his Hamlet we're seeing in your intro, not Romeo.
I caught that too.
please do a biography of his boyfriend Michael Sheen 🙏 this is amazingly detailed
Please make a video on SYLVESTER STALLONE
Blackpool was hilarious😂
I can honestly say that he is one actor that i genuinely like absolutely everything i have ever seen him in. I've read tons of Gaiman and I don't think there is anyone else on Earth who could have fit better than David in the role of Crowley in Good Omens. He is just so clever and funny and talented. A joy to watch.(And a pretty good dancer, i should know I've taught dance classes). If i ever get a dying wish, I'd like to have a dance with him.😏✨🩵✨
I DID IT FIRST
THANK YOU SO MUCH ❤
He's the smart girls leading man😂. I think
I wonder why the narrator read all the remarks by DT and others interviewed. It woujd have been much more enjoyable to hear them speak in their own voices!
I am guessing to avoid copyright issues from the original publications, or maybe they were statements made in an written article and not spoken
@AndrewJamison79 it looked like the narration was voicing words the performer (David) was saying.
You are NOT pronouncing Terry's name right! Its prachet...no emphasis on the last part just one word!
In the Who Universe .. the doctor's daughter is still out there .. doing things .. it's a wonder they haven't bought the character back?
"Hi I'm Larry... this my brother Daryl... this is my other brother, Darrell.:
please do jack nicholson
Narrator really needs to learn how to pronounce Davison. There's only one D in that name.
I agree
Jesus I only heard his dad talking about I thought it was just David talking with a slightly higher voice
😮 Chiswick is _not_ pronounced "Chiswick" .. it's 'Chis-ick' the 'w' is silent. (Just as the "w' is also silent in 'Southwark' in South London - is correctly pronounced 'Suth-ark') ...sigh!
People didn't like Bad Samaritan? I had no idea
my youngest is fond of this career and i pray it works out for them. we are on non speaking terms now.
Chamou Hamlet de Romeo logo no inicio eu ri
David could be a good James Dean
Why the negative thumbnail?
1:13:47
Why couldn't the film makers have used clips of David Tenant and the other people themselves talking, rather than a constant voiceover?
Prat-Shette? No! The last 't' isn't pronounced and there's no 'e' at the end, and it's one word. The 'e' in the middle is pronounced as an 'i'.
I wish this had subtitles. 😢
