of course I don't disagree with you glad David Tennant awarded accolades but he deserves his privacy as well. Celebrate his astonishing accomplishments but don't get over personal. In French fan becomes fana meaning fanatiic. I know the feelings are real but .... I was at a concert when I was young and Tom Petty was almost mauled to death by the audience barely escaped with his life who are you people get real watch the brilliant films and LEAVE THE MAN ALONE.
if you have it all in a playlist you should drop the link cause at points the soundtrack was too good for me to focus on the video ;) no offense, it was great and i really enjoyed it of course
@@EvelynBaronwhat?!! This whole video was about his work as an artist/ and voice artist. Is talking about his looks and appearance and how they make people feel too personal? It’s just complements, no one is thinking of attacking in real life.
OH my god, "david will have a legacy of keeping queer kids alive" (1:36:13) made me cry I'm serious. that hit me right in the heart. *because its true.* i hope he knows that. i really do.
If I had a nickel for every time a Scottish child who was a massive fan of doctor who grew up to eventually play the doctor I'd have two nickels. Which isn't a lot but its weird that it happened twice.
Along with David Tennant and Peter Capaldi, Sylvester McCoy, who played the 7th Doctor, is also Scots, of course. I've no idea if he was a huge fan of the series when younger, though. He could have been.
@@frglee Sylvester is wonderful but he usually says in interviews that he remembered seeing Patrick Troughton a bit but never really saw it afterwards as he was off doing weird experimental theatre!
3! Ncuti Gatwa, Peter Capaldi and David Tennant all grew up watching Doctor Who and became The Doctor. Ncuti also said David was his favorite and watching him play the doctor inspired him as an actor ❤
My friend works in the entertainment industry and has met a lot of celebrities. Ask her who is the nicest and she will IMMEDIATELY say David Tennant. There’s a lot of people who are fake-nice, who brag about their good deeds on social media for clout. David is just genuinely a kind person who treats everyone well, no matter their status. She’d mentioned to him that her son ADORES him as The Doctor, and David immediately asked “is he here?” because he wanted to meet the kid. He wasn’t, so David ASKED TO RECORD A PHONE MESSAGE FOR HIM. He asked to do it, not the other way round. Says a lot about his character.
One of David's loveliest roles was playing 'Davina', the trans barmaid in one episode of the Scottish sitcom 'Rab C. Nesbitt', which was beautifully done - very funny, without being disrespectful. As I recall, Rab (a pretty rough Glaswegian character) was quite taken by how charming and sweet she was.
I became a whovian.today. after the third series Announcement of my preferable Source of dave tennant ,I could not hold my curiosity any longer, And I started searching his earlier work .so I went straight to the doctor. The first reason I saw was with the last living human you know" moisturise me" Otherwise known as cassandra. And whilst they were fleeing in a stairwell full infected people raised by cats to be testrats (flesh)For other species you with me ?ok. switching minds between the doctor ,rose For a short while an affected lab rat person and later a 1/2 life person . As with doctor who dares always more to it. But this is the bit I need to explain what I want to talk about. here goes : The 2 girls had a discussion Whilst cassandra was in the body off the docter.the fist thing i see david do is play a part we know of him and i love it,davina, wich switches with his theather work Also a broad range with allowance for some female aspects. And then we have good. I know why I am in love with this idiot .I mean completely unrealistic for sure, and never gonna happen. And I will have to cut my way through a suede of young and attractive people. But I mean he is cute, isn't he? So I am now basically learning about a century worth of lore Because of one cute guy. Or possibly, (but he has not identified as to my knowledge, being A person with more gender fluid takes .but he that's his/their business.
@@elytra404 AWESOME!!! Good omens has been such an impactful and creatively inspiring show for me, and you’re in for SUCH a treat with David and Michael’s performances. You’re gonna love it!
I was honestly considering quitting theatre because I wasn't sure if it was what I wanted to do with my life anymore, but David Tennant has inspired me to keep going. He's such a wonderful actor, and a huge inspiration for me growing up and now. I hope I can be as good of an actor as he is someday.
You simply must google David Tennant's speech at his honorary doctorate ceremony (watch the entire clip). You will see his incredible humility (especially for a person of his talent and fame), love for his family (and not just the usual factoring them in because it must be done), love for his profession & craft and love for humanity. He reluctantly shares advice, and his nerves make him all the more loveable. Also, check out the episodes on him finding his roots and his trip to Ireland (I think the show is called 'Who Do You Think You Are' ). All are on TH-cam. Check out every interview of his that you can. You will learn a great deal. The fact that his talent has inspired you to perservere is worth more than the most prestigious award or accolade. I'm sure David Tennant would agree. Much good luck to you
No Olivier, no BAFTA. Hard to believe, because his talent and work is unparalleled. But thank you, Lauren, for the work you've done here. At first I thought, no I'm clearly not going to watch this entire thing, but you created something so compelling I couldn't stop watching. We love him, too, and David, I think, would be proud that you were inspired. May we all carry on to be inspired by his acting work and most importantly, his kindness. You done good, kid.
Same! Fully started it thinking 'nahhh, 2 hours is too long for me to spend on a video no matter how much I love David Tennant.' Here I am, 2 hours later!
I thought this year was the beginning of my David Tennant era and then I realized that he's been in basically every piece of media I've ever loved and I just didn't realize the man is INCREDIBLE
you made me realize why I love the way David does gender, with being vulnerable and authentic and breaking gender norms, and it makes so much sense why he finally gave me the courage to accept my own gender so much more than before
Seeing Tennant in Macbeth later in this month, very much looking forward to it. My favourite 'crazy Tennant' is in the first episode of Randall and Hopkirk (Deceased) - once you've seen him dancing in a wedding dress, you'll never forget it.
2 HOUR LONG DAVID TENNANT VIDEO ESSAY!!! i cannot wait to absolutely devour this, he's such an incredible and kind and gentle man i adore him so much omgomgomg
I loved this sm!! Also special mention to David’s role in “there she goes” where he plays the role of a father who has a daughter with severe learning disorder. It’s not an easy watch and was pretty painful for me bc I have a cousin who has a similar condition, and yet his portrayal was so good and so heartbreaking.
Yeah the further I got in my list the more I regretted not including this show! Honestly I would have watched it too had it not been really important to me to get this video out by the end of November (wanted to get it out around the same time as the 60th specials)
I hung on your lips for every second until I realised that almost two hours had passed and I could still continue listening to you talk about David Tennant. You managed to explain why I love him so much, why his roles mean so much to me and you said that in words that express all the magic that encompasses him. Thank you for this video!!!
David in his theater productions, his sheer talent! David in his television and movie roles~complete talent as well! David in his kindness, manners, advocacy and he a high quality human being. David’s devotion to his wife and children~ impeccable. I am thrilled for him to have this success in life. Thank you David!
I’m sooooo glad that there are people out there who love and admire DT as much as I do and appreciate his fantastic acting and personality and charm! He’s unbelievably perfect! And Doctor Who and the infinite possibilities philosophy stuff and hilarious things the DW contains! It’s like nobody around me knows these wonderful stuff and I'm just dying for not being Georgia 😢
I just sat through this entire video essay without getting bored once. This is actually so good and made me struggle not to cry more than once. I didn't even zone out while watching this. It just might be one of my favorite videos on this entire website!!
This video is all I ever needed to make me feel valid in this fixation. I loved hearing about some works I didn't even know he was in. I just watched more of the Ten era of Doctor who and it sparked something, and this video scratched that itch David is such a wonderful human and you have such a beautiful way of telling the world about him. Thank you!
My first exposure to David Tenant was in Goblet of Fire. I was immediately fascinated with him and his skill as an actor. Not his best role, but I was sold. Then I discovered him again as the 10th Doctor. I was already a fan of Doctor Who from the classic era and Tenant brought so much joy to the character. And darkness. Then I proceeded to consume every single thing I could find with Tenant in the cast. He is one of the finest actors of any generation. So fun seeing him play the Doctor again! Honestly - great video. You did an exceptional job analyzing why David Tenant is such a phenomenal human being. He’s everyone’s best friend we are always happy to spend time with.
Please do a video on Takin' Over the Asylum its soo good! I watched it recently and am simply blown away by how accurate and grounded its representation of people living with mental health issues is. The characters very clearly struggle and even admit it but will also brush it off a moment later, just amazing writing and performances. I'm also scottish and can say the use of our slang is so well done and true to how we speak its a wonder the BBC even aried it. So poingant and wonderful, what an amazing show.
I knew more of Michael sheens work than Davids before Good Omens. When GO.1 came out it was during my Queen obsession so that was my main take away (other than loving the show itself) than Good Omens 2 came out and opened my eyes to Davids tallet and i dived into his massive catalog of work starting with Doctor Who (from 9th Doc). Now im a Whovian and Tennant obsessed as well.
4w5 family misfit and late-diagnosed neurospicy film geek here. I love actors, loved working with them, love what they do. I’m very late to this particular party, but I’m here now. I’ve already watched about a third of the works you mentioned, and I’m sad to have already finished listening to his podcast. So much kindness, wisdom, and non-linear thinking. Thanks for this deep dive.
I love this! I'm muuuuuuuch older than you, and discovered DT when I watched Staged. It was love at first sight. Since then, I've binged Doctor Who and then gone down a deep, dark rabbit hole and have seen almost everything he's ever done. Seriously. If it is still in existence, I've watched it (Voice over work excluded, except for Ashoka). I've never crushed on an actor as much as I have on this man. Movies/shows that blew me away for different reasons.... Taking Over The Asylum, Single Dad, Broadchurch, Hamlet (wow), Bad Samaritan, Jessica Jones, Secret Smile, Good Omens, Camping, Much Ado About Nothing, United, Around the World in 80 Days, Fright Night (the sexiest ever), and many more!
I’m older, too, and find David Tennant to be such an incredibly versatile actor that after I watched Good Omens first season immediately before Season 2 was released, found both seasons to be so extraordinary in every aspect, that I am compelled to watch everything I can find regarding David Tennant. I was first aware of him when he was the tenth doctor in 2005, then sporadically would see him playing other roles since 2010, but with the advent of social media the ability to get into every bit of his work has led me to so much outstanding content! The sheer talent and acting range of this man is astounding - I am enjoying every minute of this deep dive into all things David Tennant! The world needs more humans like him.
I love Casanova! Episode 1 = laughing so much you might break something Episode 2 = Chuckles as things get more serious. Episode 3 = If your not crying your heart out, something is very wrong with you.
Oh, I think it's sad, I just have trouble crying because I've been taking seizure medication that's also used as antidepression pills since I was a little kid.
I saw that you had finally uploaded this video while I was at a friends house, and I absolutely raced home to watch it. Listening to you talk about David Tennant is always such a pleasure. You're so passionate about him it makes me grin from ear to ear I cant wait to watch some of these shows and movies. The part about never fitting in really got to me, as someone who feels the same, and who really sees themselves in Crowley, it means a lot to know that other people relate to that so much. ALSO CONGRATS ON THE SHE/THEY PRONOUNS WELCOME TO THE CLUB!!!!!
I am a film enthusiast and have been on a steady binge of David Tennant and Michael Sheen's works. I've tackled most of their movies and a good portion of their tv shows, and next up will be their theatre and voice acting works. I can say with confidence that I've never poured this much attention and emotional investment in an actor and David and Michael have genuinely blown me away. They're truly masters of their craft
i could write an essay about how much i agree with every single word in this video but im just gonna cut it short and say this: i absolutely adore david tennant.
thank you thank you thank you im so glad i'm not alone with the david tennant obsession, not me having a list of every single thing he's in and casually trying to watch it all. i found him through good omens, bringing me into a spiral with doctor who. every show he stars in, you know it's going to be good and i love it. this video was honestly perfect, skipped a few sections to avoid spoilers but THANK YOU FOR MAKING THIS! I know it must've taken ages!! also yes, gender envy is real. didn't understand why i admired him so much for the longest time and you completely explain it so well.
David's neck is doing that weird-looking thing on the Macbeth poster because scalenes muscles! I looked in a mirror and was able to reproduce it exactly on the very first try, and then overthunk it and couldn't find it again for the life of me, and collapsed in a fit of giggles. Yeah, that FACE and what he can do with it is what makes David such an amazing actor.
He may not have received the recognition for his work from the likes of the Oliviers or the BAFTA's which, in my opinion, at this point in his extensive career is quite frankly mindboggling, however I was recently privileged to see him perform as Macbeth in London. The show sold out within moments of the tickets going live and I only managed to get a ticket by the skin of my teeth by queuing for seven hours outside the theatre in the returns line in the hope that someone may have returned their ticket. Normally, you'd be lucky to get 1 or 2 return tickets per performance. Typically you may get a hopeful few mad people like myself who will queue for hours in the hope of getting a ticket. Well, the line I was in ran around the street. He is without a doubt one of the best actors of our generation and is well loved and respected in the UK and has become a household name. I consider myself so lucky that I got to see him perform live on stage. I can't find words to explain it, but there's something so captivating in his performance that you can't take your eyes off him. He so utterly consumes every character he plays and it's fascinating to watch.
Lauren this is fantastic. I love David Tennant too. It must have taken ages but a joy to watch different characters flawlessly played by David. 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻 🥇🔥❤️🏴 Take care 😘🏴
This video should come with a warning: if you don't have 2 hours to spare, don't start watching it. I made that mistake, thought I could watch it in bits and pieces ... I did but the time between the moments I could watch this video, felt like waiting for season 3 of Good Omens, 'when will I have the next moment to watch this essay?' It turns out to be, it took me 10 hours between starting and ending this amazing ride of Tennants tenure but it was worth the other moments I couldn't watch, getting excited for clicking the play button on this video but I would have rather watched it in one whole cause dang you brought the recipes. Thank you, you aced this project.
this is my late-gen-z-raised-on-the-internet-by-millenials awakening to appreciation for david tennant and let me say, i am loving it i've always known him as the resident over-the-top witty and very gesture-r actor but i've never got to give the time to get to know his work. i used to think it was something for those fixated with doctor who and that it ended there. i used to be quick to judge good omens by its look too, all too concerned with the aesthetics of it - but i realized maybe i was missing on something funny and made from the heart because i take things too seriously. and oh boy, did it change things for me in the couple last weeks. i 'watched' the first season once while doing a house cleaning and did not pay much attention to it, months ago and that was it. it was funny, it disarmed me, but didn't really catch me. then for some reason i started to think about it again a few weeks ago. there was a second season that i didn't watch??? ok, so i started watching. and i don't know how to say this, but i started without any hint of what was about to come, for once i think i truly felt the joy of missing out on internet fandom culture, because when that kiss happened it was 2 am in the morning and i gasped for air so loudly i was afraid i'd wake up my parents. the thing is, i think growing up with constant the sweeping under the rug of queer characters and queerbaiting in mainstream media i got so used to being denied things that when it was honestly earned it felt like a shock. like, it was all text all the time and it happened. for a few seconds, i felt like everything i exeperienced with this type of pop media led me to this moment of catharsis with, wait, this is real, this is happening. don't get me wrong, on one hand i'm happy that queer teenagers have more representation despite all flaws these days, but good omens felt different than any recent lgbtqia+ ventures in media for a reason. i'm speaking for myself, but felt like recognition, like reconciliation. i started expecting a silly little show to watch late at night and i got, well, a full journey of my own. i know this video isn't about good omens, but the thing is, i am so enamoured by david's charm. i too feel gender envy while i see him performing - he's charismatic, energetic, witty. but so much more, i see now. seeing a person talk about something or someone they love with such pure joy and genuine feeling is moving. i am thankful for those who do not hide behind a cool and controlled facade and are ready to show their emotions. i mean this to both of you. also, this is how i discovered that david played a priest??? BRB (when you said it was written by steven moffat though i... i swear. if felt like a fucking JOKE the universe throwed at me to say the least. i'll watch anyways)
Yes I had that EXACT experience with good omens too! I literally screamed out loud four times during the final episode, and I was dry sobbing the entire final fifteen. Not even just with queer characters, but my favorite ship of all time is Roy and Riza from fullmetal alchemist, who are basically what would happen if queerbaiting were a thing for straight people. I’m so used to having to treasure hunt for hints that my ship is canon that explicit confirmation feels like a total punch to the gut.
@@laurenrogers GODDD there are no individual experiences really just using the oppotunity to say thanks again for your work and effort here, i truly wish that somehow, david gets to hear about this.
Your analysis of Kilgrave is spot on. He is supposed to be so charming, alluring, and ultimately the worst kind of villain. The one you almost want to win, because DV victims aren't stupid they didn't get the full script. They got that charming smiling loving guy that the world sees. They also got the villain that only they get to know the horror of.
Honestly I don't think I have in me the words necessary to express how much this long-ass video means to me now :))) I too have been obsessed with David Tennant (and Doctor Who as a whole) since I was 12 and listening to your journey and analysis made me realize so many ways in which this obsession shaped my life. Growing up I was very outspoken about my love for Doctor Who in a country in which it wasn't even that popular, we had it on an obscure sci-fi channel that was only running the RTD era on repeat for years, before running the Matt Smith era on repeat for a few years. And I felt like that made me sort of an outsider, but now I realize it was much more than that. The show made me fall in love with two artists in particular, David Tennant and Neil Gaiman. And this gets me to your point about gender. While I still identify as a straight guy and never felt like rejecting the label, I never quite liked behaving in "manly" ways, never cared for machismo and was very uncomfortable when it was pushed on me. I always wanted to be graceful, to be light on my legs, to jump around and spin. To never be cruel, never be cowardly, and never ever eat pears. And I can't believe I only now see the fact that I was shaped into this by growing up watching the Doctor (particularly David's). And then there's my artistic journey as an aspiring writer that is very much a political person. I also got quite obsessed (and still am) with the works of Neil motherfucking Gaiman (whom I also discovered throw Doctor Who). He is a powerhouse of progressive storytelling, since that first issue of The Sandman, providing a fictional safe space for outcasts of every kind. And that obviously culminates with Good Omens, in which these three god damn white presumably straight cisgender men join their artistic forces to do the best they can to be make this very queer story. I know that queer and marginalized voices should be heard and they should be the ones getting the chance to tell their story, to express their own first hand reality. But as a straight guy who fancies himself an artist, I aspire to be like David or Neil. It's the best we can do.
As long as you’re on this journey, I can’t recommend Terry Pratchett enough. You probly already know he co-wrote Good Omens, and his wit, his anger, his wisdom, and above all his humanity are all over that book. His Discworld series elevates that even further. Seriously, his books should be part of every high school curriculum ever. Also, if you’re looking for queer stories by queer artists that capture the twirly, kindhearted, gender-fuckering energy of David Tennant, I recommend you check out Steven Universe. It’s a beautiful show that explodes with love and freedom. It’s sort of a love letter to queer children, imo, but anyone and everyone should watch it!! 💞
I love you. This is absolutely astonishing. David Tennant is my favourite actor on the planet and that will never change. You just made my day, talking for nearly two hours about this amazing man who I thought was underappreaciated. Thank you so much
As a fan of David Tennant for more than a decade (the longest I've been a fan of someone, and he's also shaped my identity in some big ways, especially in terms of gender), I saw myself and my passion and admiration for him perfectly reflected on you and your words. So many times watching this video I found myself exclaiming “YES! EXACTLY!”. Brilliant video from beginning to end, you beautifully encapsulated everything that makes David Tennant so special and unique and worth celebrating, both in his work and as a person. This video truly felt like a love letter to David Tennant and I thank you for that
Rewatching yet again to celebrate Lauren getting recognized! Just as good as the first time. I even made it through the Kilgrave section (facing away because I can’t watch but still)! God, I hope David sees it, or at least parts of it someday. If he thought her analysis of his BAFTA photo shoot suit was detailed…
David, to me, seems to be this guy who just remains himself and doesn't let celebrity go to his head. I believe that when you see him a con or in an interview, that that is what you very much have in private as well.
Clicked on this video because of David Tennant. Stayed because you blew my expectations out of the park. I heavily enjoyed watching you discuss David Tennants roles with such enthusiasm and love that I do. Whether it's the need to make sure not to fall in love with Kilgrave, the fun the 10th Doctor has or outlining how much Alec needs a hug, I enjoyed seeing you discuss this in a fun and engaging manner that made me stay the 2 hours. I don't usually watch video essays as they seem too boring for me but I stayed for this one for the energy and important discussion of who David Tennant plays and the actor himselfs quality and delightfulness in real life and on screen. I've always wanted to write a video essay or discussion on David Tennant since I started watching him and this video has taught me so much on what writing works or doesn't and how I can ultilse my humor and energy into talking about a brilliant actor like him. Thank you again for an outstanding video :)
As a point of counter argument (not really serious) about david's character having sad depressing live at the end, you should remember we have his voiced acted characters that is basically just all comedic....
This is great! He is just such an amazing actor and I will forever be captivated by him. I would also love to watch a similar video about Daniel Radcliffe, simply because the roles he took to not being only remembered for Harry Potter is just so fascinating. He’s taken some of the weirdest roles and I love him for it.
Been on the same David Tennant mission lol. Thank you for making this-it's everything I've been thinking through watching these roles. Thank you especially for including Takin' over the asylum it. is. brilliant.
Thank you so much for sharing this video essay. I was fangirling with you about DT all the way through. I've also made it a duty to deep dive in his filmography because of how much his charisma in GO drew me to him, and now he's become my favourite actor. I would just like to add to the list his incredible portrayal of the struggling father of a learning disabled child in the series "There She Goes" alongside the Bafta winning Jessica Hynes, and also his magnificent role in "The Politician's Husband", where he shines in a complex power play against his wife played by Emily Watson. And oh boy don't get me started in how different his 14th Doctor is from his 10th incarnation; is not only palpable how close he's followed and integrated the nuances of Matt Smith, Peter Capaldi and Jodie Whittaker into his character but also you can see how much of a seasoned actor he's become, and his chemistry with Catherine Tate is magnetic. I couldn't agree more with the way you described David; he's a talented, charming, hard-working, sympathetic human being and he deserves much more recognition for his performances than he has. Let's just hope more awards come his way soon! After all, 2023 has been quite a year for David.
I'm halfway through, and this is such an education! Not to mention an exceptionally wonderful treat for Tennant fans. I admire your perception and ability to express what you've discovered. And yes, the music fits perfectly so far!
A worthy tribute to one of the greatest actors of all time! His time on Doctor Who is some of my favorite media ever created. And he's one of the rare UK actors that hasn't utterly disappointed me in the wake of Rowling... A lot of the same points made here apply to Robbie Daymond for me. I definitely was not parasocially obsessed with him after playing Persona 5 Royal...
I was at the Fan Expo in Dallas today, and I saw heard you at the QnA with David Tennant, and I accidentally found your channel, and went looking for this video. Hi!
I just sat down and watched this like a movie and I can't tell you enough how amazing it was. You went so in-depth and I'm in awe. Thank you for fueling my own David Tennant hyperfixation
Ok so im like 2 minutes in but as someone who has recently been obsessing with David Tennant I saw this video and knew I needed to watch it. He has infected everything I hold dear(internet wise) and legit the other day my friend sent me something completely unrelated to any of David’s roles, yet there was a photo of him. I can’t escape.
I watched this from beginning to end. It was fun stumbling across a passion project like this from someone who has such a great love and appreciation of David's work. I discovered him in college in 2017 through Doctor Who, and I loved him so much that I soaked up a bunch of his other performances in a very short amount of time. I haven't seen all of these, but I've seen many of them like Black Pool, Broadchurch, Single Father, Jessica Jones, The Escape Artist, Casanova, some of his Shakespeare performances, etc. And of course, I love Good Omens. He's phenomenal, and I love how you took the time to delve into the performances and what he brought to each of them. I have to say, while I do sometimes develop crushes on characters, I'm not known for developing crushes on actual actors. David Tennant is the exception though. I could watch him in almost anything --- and probably be more than happy listening to him reading the phonebook lol. Not sure if you've gotten to see him in the recent DW episode Wild Blue Yonder yet, but WOW. He got to show off some RANGE in that.
I cannot believe you actually ended the video with that line!!! But also, the shock broke me out of how I was crying from the last two sections of the video (I can’t even explain why I was crying, but I was)
I’m falling back into the rabbit hole that is David Tennant. He’s also part of the reason I wanted to be an actor. I’ve been losing some of my passion over the years because I keep not meeting my own expectations of where my skills should be. This is helping me a bit to actually want to try, instead of giving up.
i just can't thank you enough for this video and the work you've done - that was brrrrilliant two hours when i was sitting and shouting at the screen YES ABSOLUTELY TRUE I AGREE WITH EVERY WORD because david is an absolutely incredible passionate and talented human being and he deserves all the love in the world for the joy he brings us with his every appearance on the screen. thank you for such detailed and full of love essay - i enjoyed every second of it! 💜 we love this man and we are proud
I cannot thank my fyp and the algorithm enaugh omg this is gonna be such an enjoyable watch to me as a die hard david tennant supporter. He is really an amazing person and an extraordinary actor i can't even describe how much he means to me. Thank you for this video (that i haven't watched yet but will do in a minute when breakfast is ready lol)
THIS WAS EVERYTHING! This video is almost 2 hours long and I knew what was coming and it still felt too short. The most wonderful analysis of everyone‘s favorite (Scottish) actor one could have hoped for. And thanks for the shout-out! I must thank YOU for setting me on the David Tennant path in the first place.
This is one of the best videos I’ve ever seen, you sum up Tennant as an actor/human so well with such authenticity and joy that I couldn’t look away!! Congratulations, thank you, and I can’t wait to watch this more in my life 😁
This was an absolute delight. Thank you for doing god's work. David Tennant is truly an icon and I've loved him since discovering Doctor Who 15+ years ago but I haven't watched nearly enough of his work.
This is one of the best video essays ive ever seen. I resonate so much with everything you said. Had to share it because more people need to see this masterpiece!!!!
My god, this video. How wonderful a gift to spend almost two hours just smiling from ear to ear in celebrating the raw talent that is David. And honestly, you as well for the palpable love and care that is so obvious in making this. The way you explain everything so simply and to the point, yet you emphasise all of it in a way I struggle to. The part about gender identity struck such a chord since I've embarked on a bit of a journey in realising I too fall under the nonbinary umbrella even though I haven't completely figured it out yet. I hope you are beyond proud of this video, it is nothing short of brilliant ♡
Oh my God this is incredible, this is absolutely brilliant... I just sat through a 2 hour long video essay analyzing david tennant and his acting carreer and I've never felt more happy in my life. This past months I've been obsessed with this guy (good omens) (I had watched dw before but the obsession wasn't as strong as this???) and I need NEED TO TELL HIM THAT HE IS THE BEST like THE best actor of this age because yeah... honestly a breathtaking man
Wow, this was a stunning video, thank you so much for all your hard work and research. Not many others would dive into those Shakespearean roles he's done the way you have (and by the way, it was interesting that you said he brought a childlike quality to Richard II, because Richard was indeed a child when he came to the throne.) You touched on everything I could possibly think of, even the lesser known roles, and it was awesome. The last thing I saw him in was "Litvinenko" and even though he was only in the first part you couldn't forget him. Thanks again, you've made my evening!
Absolutely beautiful video. I am in awe of how wonderfully you have articulated all the amazing things about David that we just flail and go ngk about. I highly recommend you watch There She Goes. It is in my humble opinion the pinnacle of his on screen career. Again just a smashing job on the video!!!
Yeah I really regret not watching that one! Had a feeling I was gonna have a bunch of people recommending it. By the time I realized I wanted to see it I didn’t have any more time in my schedule to add it 😭
Man this video hit so hard. I'm the same age as you and you perfectly summed up everything I feel not only about David Tennant but just about life in some ways which is crazy. Best TH-cam video essay I have ever watched you literally seem like the coolest person ever. Hope you are doing good and have a great year :)
david tennant really is the nicest person ever i just love them. they really are THE actor. they’re kind, loving, supportive, funny and just so much more. it’s impossible to describe them in words, ineffable you might say, but you put it together so perfectly! thank you for this
I utterly loved this video! It was compelling & so intelligent from beginning to end. Thank you! Some fun facts: In his Crowley character, I think he is paying wonderful homage to Bill Nighy in "Still Crazy". Back in the early 2000s, David Tennant made a couple of very funny cameo appearances on "Posh Nosh" with Annabella Weir (who was also in "Takin' Over the Asylum" and Richard E. Grant. "Posh Nosh" is also a marvelous show - you can catch it on TH-cam. P.S. I also loved the humor in your video assay, and how you are so true to your own self. You definitely are a worthy co-star to DT in this video. 🙂
Finally, a fellow she/they actor completing the mission I began in 2012 and couldn't finish because of the lack of resources on the internet at the time. God bless
I've watched this through, this video essay is absolutely *incredible!* - a someone else has said, you perfectly articulate everything that's so hard to articulate about DT and his impact on the world - the final section about authenticity in particular was amazing, but of course it couldn't have stood as strongly as it did without everything else before it. Overall, this was was WELL worth the two hours it took to watch, and thank you so much for spending countless hours putting this all together! You've definitely earned a new subscriber (and you share a lot of the same hyperfixations as I do as well), *well done*.

of course I don't disagree with you glad David Tennant awarded accolades but he deserves his privacy as well.
@@EvelynBaron what exactly did I do that was too personal?
if you have it all in a playlist you should drop the link cause at points the soundtrack was too good for me to focus on the video ;) no offense, it was great and i really enjoyed it of course
@@EvelynBaronwhat?!! This whole video was about his work as an artist/ and voice artist. Is talking about his looks and appearance and how they make people feel too personal? It’s just complements, no one is thinking of attacking in real life.
truly the david tennant “phase” isn’t actually a phase. it’s just dormant waiting for the next opportunity
OH my god, "david will have a legacy of keeping queer kids alive" (1:36:13) made me cry I'm serious. that hit me right in the heart. *because its true.* i hope he knows that. i really do.
"hes a sweet down to earth family man with a resume full of sluts and seriel killers" SO ACCURATE (and my goal as an actor tbh)
The nice and accurate description of david tennant
If I had a nickel for every time a Scottish child who was a massive fan of doctor who grew up to eventually play the doctor I'd have two nickels. Which isn't a lot but its weird that it happened twice.
Is the other Scottish child Peter Capaldi? Because he’s also amazing.
Yup that’s him 🥺
omg thats so sweet!!!
the Tennaissance is the best thing to happen in years and I hope it stays here
One of David's loveliest roles was playing 'Davina', the trans barmaid in one episode of the Scottish sitcom 'Rab C. Nesbitt', which was beautifully done - very funny, without being disrespectful. As I recall, Rab (a pretty rough Glaswegian character) was quite taken by how charming and sweet she was.
DAVINA IS SO LOVELY I totally regret not mentioning her, watched that scene today and got major bi panic
But this is the bit I need to explain what I want to talk about.
here goes :
The 2 girls had a discussion Whilst cassandra was in the body off the docter.the fist thing i see david do is play a part we know of him and i love it,davina, wich switches with his theather work Also a broad range with allowance for some female aspects.
Or possibly, (but he has not identified as to my knowledge, being A person with more gender fluid takes .but he that's his/their business.
where might one find that? 👀
@@shedefinitelylikes the segment is on TH-cam!
I love Davina ❤
the end credits have the most 'i did the group project all by myself' energy ive ever seen and i love it so much, this video is wonderful
This is my new favorite comment
@@laurenrogers oh my god you responded- hi! thank you so much for making this, i finally started watching good omens cause of this lol
@@elytra404 AWESOME!!! Good omens has been such an impactful and creatively inspiring show for me, and you’re in for SUCH a treat with David and Michael’s performances. You’re gonna love it!
@@laurenrogers just finished it and come onto yt and saw this comment, the looks and the kiss and AHH how could they do this to us??
did i just watch two hours of someone talking about david tennant?
did i love every minute of it? also yes
Much good luck to you
David is a renaissance human not needing to be defined by his sexuality but simply defined as human. ❤
Same! Fully started it thinking 'nahhh, 2 hours is too long for me to spend on a video no matter how much I love David Tennant.'
Here I am, 2 hours later!
I thought this year was the beginning of my David Tennant era
and then I realized that he's been in basically every piece of media I've ever loved and I just didn't realize
the man is INCREDIBLE
Me too! He's a major part of my life and I didn't even know!
lmao i'm kinda on the same boat now
you made me realize why I love the way David does gender, with being vulnerable and authentic and breaking gender norms, and it makes so much sense why he finally gave me the courage to accept my own gender so much more than before
Seeing Tennant in Macbeth later in this month, very much looking forward to it.
Honestly I would have watched it too had it not been really important to me to get this video out by the end of November (wanted to get it out around the same time as the 60th specials)
my reaction to inside man was something like "he looks way too good to be making such bad decisions"
I’ve never seen something more accurate in my life
I hung on your lips for every second until I realised that almost two hours had passed and I could still continue listening to you talk about David Tennant.
I didn't think it would take a David Tennant video essay for me to find out DJ stands for "Disc Jockey" but here i am
That was my first exposure to David Tennant too. My first thought was "Damn that guy makes a good psychopath"😂
I think we came out of the same mould. That's the order I saw him too.
IKR I love the show so much 😭
I knew more of Michael sheens work than Davids before Good Omens.
TYPE FOUR GANGGG
Super sweet “Return of the King” ending. I didn’t want it to end either. Great choice.
I legit love this and need to see a David tennant tier list
I desperately want to do a video of my ranking DT characters on attractiveness tier list but I don’t think my parents would approve 💀
Episode 1 = laughing so much you might break something
Episode 2 = Chuckles as things get more serious.
ALSO CONGRATS ON THE SHE/THEY PRONOUNS WELCOME TO THE CLUB!!!!!
i've never heard someone being congratulated on their pronouns before
Then get this - congratulations from me too Lauren!!!! And welcome to the alphabet mafiaaaaaaaaaaa 💞❤️✨🥳
They're truly masters of their craft
i could write an essay about how much i agree with every single word in this video but im just gonna cut it short and say this: i absolutely adore david tennant.
thank you thank you thank you
im so glad i'm not alone with the david tennant obsession, not me having a list of every single thing he's in and casually trying to watch it all.
i found him through good omens, bringing me into a spiral with doctor who. every show he stars in, you know it's going to be good and i love it.
this video was honestly perfect, skipped a few sections to avoid spoilers but THANK YOU FOR MAKING THIS!
I’m starting this waaaay too late at night and I’m so happy. You’re awesome. David is a dream.
First saw David Tennent as Davina in a uk series called Rab C Nesbitt. Amazing actor, followed his career ever since. X
Oh, it is so lovely to watch someone as obsessed with this beautiful man as I am. ❤️
Thank you, you aced this project.
this is my late-gen-z-raised-on-the-internet-by-millenials awakening to appreciation for david tennant and let me say, i am loving it
i've always known him as the resident over-the-top witty and very gesture-r actor but i've never got to give the time to get to know his work. i used to think it was something for those fixated with doctor who and that it ended there.
i used to be quick to judge good omens by its look too, all too concerned with the aesthetics of it - but i realized maybe i was missing on something funny and made from the heart because i take things too seriously. and oh boy, did it change things for me in the couple last weeks. i 'watched' the first season once while doing a house cleaning and did not pay much attention to it, months ago and that was it. it was funny, it disarmed me, but didn't really catch me. then for some reason i started to think about it again a few weeks ago. there was a second season that i didn't watch??? ok, so i started watching. and i don't know how to say this, but i started without any hint of what was about to come, for once i think i truly felt the joy of missing out on internet fandom culture, because when that kiss happened it was 2 am in the morning and i gasped for air so loudly i was afraid i'd wake up my parents. the thing is, i think growing up with constant the sweeping under the rug of queer characters and queerbaiting in mainstream media i got so used to being denied things that when it was honestly earned it felt like a shock. like, it was all text all the time and it happened. for a few seconds, i felt like everything i exeperienced with this type of pop media led me to this moment of catharsis with, wait, this is real, this is happening.
don't get me wrong, on one hand i'm happy that queer teenagers have more representation despite all flaws these days, but good omens felt different than any recent lgbtqia+ ventures in media for a reason. i'm speaking for myself, but felt like recognition, like reconciliation. i started expecting a silly little show to watch late at night and i got, well, a full journey of my own.
i know this video isn't about good omens, but the thing is, i am so enamoured by david's charm. i too feel gender envy while i see him performing - he's charismatic, energetic, witty. but so much more, i see now. seeing a person talk about something or someone they love with such pure joy and genuine feeling is moving.
i am thankful for those who do not hide behind a cool and controlled facade and are ready to show their emotions. i mean this to both of you.
also, this is how i discovered that david played a priest??? BRB
(when you said it was written by steven moffat though i... i swear. if felt like a fucking JOKE the universe throwed at me to say the least. i'll watch anyways)
@@laurenrogers GODDD there are no individual experiences really
just using the oppotunity to say thanks again for your work and effort here, i truly wish that somehow, david gets to hear about this.
An almost 2 hours video dedicated to my favorite and the best actor ever!?? Hell yess!!
The chills it gave me to listen to Crowley's introduction
NOT EVEN 2 MINUTES IN AND THERES A S2EP6 LAST FIFTEEN JUMPSCARE 😭😭😭
As someone also suffering DT brainrot, this fed my brain. Thank you!
AGREE!
I'm older than you and adore David Tennant 🥰
"Best actor of his generation?" you ask.
What can we say but, Oooooooh yeeeees.
And now I'm diving right in to the The Weird And Wonderful Legacy.
God, I love this man. And this video, thank you for this.
Every day it's a gettin closer
Goin faster than a rollercoaster!
love like yours will surely come my way
A DAVID TENNANT VIDEO ESSAY THIS IS THE BEST DAY OF MY LIFE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Hi!
AYOOO!!! So glad my little pitch worked
I just sat down and watched this like a movie and I can't tell you enough how amazing it was. You went so in-depth and I'm in awe. Thank you for fueling my own David Tennant hyperfixation
This needs to be watched with my Ten plushie
Literally such a big fan of him. Like not just as an actor, but just like. As a human being
Who let King Lear into this Disney Channel show is my new favorite description of Scrooge McDuck in late season 1
Ducktales is AMAZING. The series finale is one of the best finales of any show EVER.
It's so good!
This is my new favorite video essay I’m glad we’re all so obsessed
Ok so im like 2 minutes in but as someone who has recently been obsessing with David Tennant I saw this video and knew I needed to watch it. He has infected everything I hold dear(internet wise) and legit the other day my friend sent me something completely unrelated to any of David’s roles, yet there was a photo of him. I can’t escape.
this is my new comfort video to watch thank you so so SO much
I watched this from beginning to end.
Oh my gosh YES WILD BLUE YONDER WAS INSANE GIVE HIM A BAFTA YOU COWARDS
@@laurenrogers AGREED!
Literally me!!!
i just can't thank you enough for this video and the work you've done - that was brrrrilliant two hours when i was sitting and shouting at the screen YES ABSOLUTELY TRUE I AGREE WITH EVERY WORD because david is an absolutely incredible passionate and talented human being and he deserves all the love in the world for the joy he brings us with his every appearance on the screen. thank you for such detailed and full of love essay - i enjoyed every second of it! 💜
we love this man and we are proud
I’m literally only ten minutes in but ik I’m gonna love this. You have the exact same energy about DT as I do
I echo this
I cannot thank my fyp and the algorithm enaugh omg this is gonna be such an enjoyable watch to me as a die hard david tennant supporter.
Donna being your favorite companion is the correct opinion. Loved this video my friend.
That was the best way I could have spent two hours oh my gosh it's freaking phenomenal I'm obsessed I have to watch all of these now
Oh my God this is incredible, this is absolutely brilliant... I just sat through a 2 hour long video essay analyzing david tennant and his acting carreer and I've never felt more happy in my life. This past months I've been obsessed with this guy (good omens) (I had watched dw before but the obsession wasn't as strong as this???) and I need NEED TO TELL HIM THAT HE IS THE BEST like THE best actor of this age because yeah... honestly a breathtaking man
also I will use this video as a list to watch his stuff so thanks for that also :)
It’s finally here!!
Hope you are doing good and have a great year :)
the end made me tear up :( thank you for this video!! i really hope david sees it somehow
david tennant really is the nicest person ever
i just love them. they really are THE actor.
they’re kind, loving, supportive, funny and just so much more. it’s impossible to describe them in words, ineffable you might say, but you put it together so perfectly! thank you for this
I utterly loved this video!
God bless
apparently we're sharing one mind or something... I've been experiencing same things since the end of
I've watched this through, this video essay is absolutely *incredible!* - a someone else has said, you perfectly articulate everything that's so hard to articulate about DT and his impact on the world - the final section about authenticity in particular was amazing, but of course it couldn't have stood as strongly as it did without everything else before it. Overall, this was was WELL worth the two hours it took to watch, and thank you so much for spending countless hours putting this all together!
You've definitely earned a new subscriber (and you share a lot of the same hyperfixations as I do as well), *well done*.
