MORE A-10 BUILDS!!!!!!!!! Hands down, the most BEAUTIFUL aircraft in the skies. Anyone who disagrees is just an ignorant heathen. My only issue is that it REALLY needs development of an efficient electric ducted fan system. Seeing an A-10 with props out front breaks my heart. The "gun" was spot on though. Even the sound was pretty freaking close to the real thing.
No way, I Just realized that my dad did a photoshoot with them a couple years ago! That's crazy. I wish that I was into planes back then, but still really cool.
You know the A-10 is also one of my all time fave planes. I remembered this so fondly: about 15 years ago my parents and I was at a "BIG" local art show and I saw within a booth that had a painting/sketch of the plane. at the time I saw it I begged and screamed at my mom to get it for me but my mom kept telling me no. But the Artist who did that painting/sketch actually told me "You know what I'll let you have it for free." since then it as been hanging up on my bedroom wall right next to my bed and I would always wake up to see it. But since I moved to a new house it's been in a box in the garage for the past 3 years. With all my Aviation and the A-10 love stems down to my Step-Grandfather who was an Aviation Mechanic for Lockheed Martin I think. But whenever I was staying at his house for the summer 20 years ago he had a bunch of Airplane models around the house along with a big woodworking room.
Just found you guys , I’m a DVET CRIPPLE I’m wheelchair bound and this is great , video I enjoyed the water proof drone too..I love flying but can’t afford it, on disability, plus just spent two yrs in the hospital and your channel is like a free gift for me! Thks...anything your not using I’d loved to fly for ya,thks
Damn I remember the early days before 100,000 subscribers... y’all have come an insanely long way. 1 million was crazy and now you’re close to 2 million. You guys are awesome.
Classic theory of aerodynamics - with enough power you can make anything fly! Remember the line from Apollo 13 "If they could make a washing machine fly my son Jimmy could fly it"? (scene with Jim Lovell's mom and her grandson) Maybe that will be the next challenge!
You probably already know this but the way the elevator is hinged puts the most possible load on the servo. Ideally it should be hinged from the middle so when it is deflected half the elevator area will be under the hinge while the other half is above it so that the forces on the two halves will create torque in opposite directions and counteract each other
I'm a mailman in Texas, and I thought that was awesome! When you rebuild it, put the flag on the correct side. Lol Been watching y'all from the beginning Josh. Y'all are great for the hobby, and the youngsters.
You guys should have a carrier based launch system where you launch a bunch of jets using a slingshot system, have fun with it and try to see how many you can launch in a time limit
In Germany we have a saying that translates to something like "since when does the tail wag the dog?". Dunno if that's a thing in the U.S., but that's what I was thinking when you tested the rear servos!
It's a "plank" airframe, see Strix Goblin. Or a wing, rectangular instead of delta, or flying tail. Search for wind-tunnel videos of various airframe designs, some use smoke to demonstrate how the airflow creates lift where it's hard to imagine as compared to a type of airframe we're more familiar with.
0:57 the Gee Bee Model R is actually from the 1930's, not the 1940's They only made two of them, the R1 & the R2, and A flying replica of the R-2 was built by Steve Wolf and Delmar Benjamin: I watched Delmar fly this plane at the Arlington Airshow in Washington State in the 90's and at Oshkosh in 01 the plane was retired in 2004.. My other favorite X-Class is Jim Bede's planes, specifically the Bede 5J
I would love to see it fly again, sure some things needed fixing but as comes with all things, thank you for the content you make and i look forward to the next video whatever it may be.
What you could do to help with the elevator problem is to have the hinge line farther back in relation to the CG of the elevator so the servo doesn't have to constantly be holding the elevator up.
Josh Bixler and Flite Test. You guys wiped me out on the floor howling laughter with that flying mail box. Alex "How's the glide slope?" Has become a punchline when anything falls off the table or somebody fumbles and drops something. I am in humor nervana right now. You guys rockin it.
Idea! Why don’t you make a launch system on top of the golf cart so you don’t need to throw it by hand! Kinda like a aircraft carrier how they slingshot the planes off. Attempt 1
You could have theorectically made the stabiliator free spinning and used small tabs like trim tabs for the pitch control(servo moves tab down, moving stabiliator up, slamming tail down and nose up)
I think moving the hinge line of the stabiliser aft into it's structure in order to aerodynamically balance the surface would help with the servo load. It would also reduce flutter once the speed increases.
After all those crazy large scale projects how about something more refined like building a 2000mm glider out of foam board that can challenge EPO models like the Phoenix?
Awesome project. Though I was a bit surprised that you put the hinge point for the tail at the leading edge. If you put the hinge point at say 1/4-1/3 chord back, that would have made for much less work for the servos, and possibly prevented the crash.
Love u guys you have inspired me to get in this hobby I'm up to 5 planes now and not seeing an end yet. A cool plane to try I can't remember the name exactly but it was a truck plane made way back in the day seems right up you guys ally God bless
A couple things. A full flying elevator should never be hinged at the leading edge. It needs to be hinged roughly 20-25% MAC just like any jet tail plane. You want the rotating hinge line to be just forward of the center of pressure. This was not a servo failure, the servos never had a chance.
Thank you for that video. You inspired me to bild my first airplane. Your FT Mighty mini Pietenpool. After 3 weeks i had today the first flight. And what you said is exactly the description of my flight. It flys amazing until it didnt. One of the 4 joints between wing and cockpit seems broken in Air and i totaly lost control. The damage is repaired and now i am waiting for new props then i take of for second flight. Thank you and best regards from Stralsund Germany.
I'd love to see if you can create a trim system that uses a servo to move a weight forward or backward to adjust COG instead of using the control surfaces. That would be amazing!!
I have never owned a plane, probably won't, I do love the content you guys bring to the world of TH-cam. Always entertaining combined with everyone's passion keeps. Me subscribed, well done guys on another epic build 😎👍
Get some overpowered brush-less servos for the tail next time :D I've had good luck with the $50-70 china specials with up to 70kg-cm of torque in a standard servo case.
why didn´t you put the motors in the ducts at the "original" A10-position? the thrust at the top of the mailbox might counteract the drag of the mailbox...
Hey guys nice work! You do a lot of historic airplanes. But what about building futuristic ones? E.g. The big plane from Tron? I personally tried to build one, but it didn't go well sinceI have not even a year of flight experience
Hey, I saw you all droping ducks and watermelon, cool. Now how about dropping a rc plane from another flying rc plane which also fly. A video of this content will be cool. Hope this can inspire others too

At 4:14 I love how it creates the shape of a love heart on the board❤️

I love how they have their own airfield to fly at whenever they want to but they don't have some slightly bigger servos
Are we just gonna ignore how Josh HOVERED a tail tail heavy mailbox to a safe and smooth landing? I rewatched 10+ times. Bravo sir, bravo.
I read this and then watched it happen and the camera guy just looked at him with the look of “did you just do that”
Just found you guys , I’m a DVET CRIPPLE I’m wheelchair bound and this is great , video I enjoyed the water proof drone too..I love flying but can’t afford it, on disability, plus just spent two yrs in the hospital and your channel is like a free gift for me! Tail wagging the dog. And then to see him do the little boy potty dance, had me in stitches
Damn I remember the early days before 100,000 subscribers... y’all have come an insanely long way. 1 million was crazy and now you’re close to 2 million. You guys are awesome.
Love ya brother. You all made it possible!
Never seen an A10 flying mailbox... crash! Great work! It will fly, again!
If Josh's "Oh my gosh" dance doesn't go viral...it should.
He took Alex's "send the shake to the knees" to a whole new level. :)
So true
I mean, if your going postal this is one way to really deliver!
Classic theory of aerodynamics - with enough power you can make anything fly!
Remember the line from Apollo 13 "If they could make a washing machine fly my son Jimmy could fly it"? (scene with Jim Lovell's mom and her grandson) Maybe that will be the next challenge!
With all of these giant builds lately. It would be awesome to see a giant FT Nutball. That would be amazing!
Oh wow the new masters series Warthog is the sexiest rc plane I have ever seen. Nice work John Overstreet! 👍😆
The view of when it crashes at 13:09 is so cool looking and super realistic

You 100% right. Next time for sure.
Or just add a mass balance on a stick toward the front of the elevator, ahead of the hinge line. Also simple.
I'm a mailman in Texas, and I thought that was awesome!
When you rebuild it, put the flag on the correct side. Lol
Been watching y'all from the beginning Josh. Y'all are great for the hobby, and the youngsters.
For something that has the aerodynamics of a brick it flew quite well
You guys should have a carrier based launch system where you launch a bunch of jets using a slingshot system, have fun with it and try to see how many you can launch in a time limit

I love a good *rapid unscheduled disassembly*
This flying mail box could be a personality in the next Toy Story movie !! Cubby to the rescue !
How does that even fly? It has as much frontal area as it has wing area!
Brick-like! lol
Theres a joke in the aerospace academy, give me a strong enough engine I’ll fly you a door
It's a "plank" airframe, see Strix Goblin. Or a wing, rectangular instead of delta, or flying tail. Search for wind-tunnel videos of various airframe designs, some use smoke to demonstrate how the airflow creates lift where it's hard to imagine as compared to a type of airframe we're more familiar with.
kAN plane
to quote the us aeronautics division "if we put enough thrust on it we can make a brick fly"
"It goes down so easily I don't know why."
Newton: Don't ever use the word "smart" with me.
I wish I can come work for you all! you all are a definition of enjoying your job.
I would love to see it fly again, sure some things needed fixing but as comes with all things, thank you for the content you make and i look forward to the next video whatever it may be.
That sucks, man. It’s torn to bits.
Definitely worth a rebuild and a GOOD servo!
Now is the time to make Snoppys doghouse Fly
That thing is ridiculous. LOL! Needs more wing. A-10 is 53' long with 58' of wing. The chubby was obviously pushing limits.
More of this please. This is like when you guys first started.
It’s the same in the kite flying community: anything will fly if there’s enough wind and you bridle it right. 😂
What you could do to help with the elevator problem is to have the hinge line farther back in relation to the CG of the elevator so the servo doesn't have to constantly be holding the elevator up.
Josh Bixler and Flite Test.

Alex "How's the glide slope?"
Has become a punchline when anything falls off the table or somebody fumbles and drops something. I am in humor nervana right now. You guys rockin it.
with a big flat frontal area you could put a lip around the edge and create an AIR dam which will form its own leading edge.
My favorite quote from the entire video was "have you ever thrown a mailbox before?"
Idea! Why don’t you make a launch system on top of the golf cart so you don’t need to throw it by hand! Kinda like a aircraft carrier how they slingshot the planes off.
Attempt 1
You could have theorectically made the stabiliator free spinning and used small tabs like trim tabs for the pitch control(servo moves tab down, moving stabiliator up, slamming tail down and nose up)
i love the new design for the A-10 but please keep the original. i love both designs and I hope you have a great thanksgiving
the us postal service: ill take your entire stock!
Im pretty sure you're the first comment
No he is not
I think moving the hinge line of the stabiliser aft into it's structure in order to aerodynamically balance the surface would help with the servo load. It would also reduce flutter once the speed increases.
Josh you need to post that dance all over social media I garentee you will go viral

You guys continue to be awesome. This Old Man loves your videos. ✈😎💗
A couple things. A full flying elevator should never be hinged at the leading edge. It needs to be hinged roughly 20-25% MAC just like any jet tail plane. You want the rotating hinge line to be just forward of the center of pressure. This was not a servo failure, the servos never had a chance.
Are you guys gonna release that mini A 10 in the video
🤣🤣🤣 It looks like a creepy deranged sky fish. Hey Josh I think you're new nickname should be "Oh my gosh Josh". That was classic
Been about a year since i last watched flite test, and im glad I'm back :)
Josh your reactions to every maiden you do are priceless buddy.love it..
Build, fly, crash. Repeat. Excellent flight.
Before the flight Josh knew the stabilizer servos were too weak
So nice demolition flight
Just like our favorite Sweede would have done🤣
Ok so when it had the metal bar on the front it reminded me of jousting airplane jousting that would be so cool I so watch that
the excitement you guys have for some of your project builds brings me back again and again...great channel and content!
Now that is right up there with one of the best plane you've ever came up with. AWSOME! Too bad it had a mind of it's own.
Can you guys make Santa's sleigh fly? Maybe even put the Grinch or Jack Skellington in the drivers seat? That would be the best Christmas gift ever!
you should've had the propulsion where the jets were, that way it would fly a bit better
Sick crawler course! Can't wait to see the drive on channel reboot!
Looking at those giant nacelles makes me think that you guys should work on making the Razor Crest from the Mandalorian fly.
I want to see a custom aircraft building and flying video cause i love it!!!!
This was soooo awesome to watch!! Great build josh!
OMG it looked like it was humping that table 😁😂🤣 I almost spit my turkey out 🤦 Crazy cool plane for sure I mean mailbox 😁
Can't wait for John's A10! I've seen it fly and it is awesome!
Upgrade for the A10 postbox: the ice stick Josh held against the gun at 8:22 + mic + speaker to get the iconic sound of this iconic Gatling gun!!
A-10 is my favorite craft. Nice video Guys. Thanks
I love the worlds largest holster. This is a cool one
Hi, My brother loves you guys! Got here 6 minutes ago!✈️🛩
Give your brother a high five for us. :)
I'd love to see you guys make an asymmetrical aircraft that really flies, an example of what I'm thinking of is the Bv-141.
*THAT WAS BLOODY BRILLIANT*
Honestly one of the more impressive looking crashes y'all have had in my opinion, shame it only got to fly once before it though.
Ok, this had to be one of my top favorites.
I'd love to see if you can create a trim system that uses a servo to move a weight forward or backward to adjust COG instead of using the control surfaces. That would be amazing!!
As a rural carrier for the USPS this episode is amazing!
Mailbox goes brrr
Lmao
Just been thinking about an interesting next vid and I’ve had an idea.
Build a massive C-130 and drop coco from the back with a parachute 😂
1) Could you guys make a smaller a10 kit?
2) Video idea: Twin Mustang
I want thus thing to be HUGE so we're gonna make a *tiny little concept model*
You should make a model of a keg of beer fly and say it’s approved by the brewmaster general, as a nod to bugmanson from warhammer
I have never owned a plane, probably won't, I do love the content you guys bring to the world of TH-cam. Always entertaining combined with everyone's passion keeps. Me subscribed, well done guys on another epic build 😎👍
The whole madness is here in these guys 😂. I love 💓 them and like them.
I guess the "Wart Box" would be firing junk mail! :-D
Awesome! But I wonder if it's possible to add some sort of counterweight for the tail to relief some of the stress for the servos?
You should attach a 3D camera on the front and do a flight in VR
I have watched your channel senc the beginning and y’all never sece to amaze me
Flite Test Stipa-Caproni?!?!
Get some overpowered brush-less servos for the tail next time :D I've had good luck with the $50-70 china specials with up to 70kg-cm of torque in a standard servo case.
Happy Thanksgiving to All!
why didn´t you put the motors in the ducts at the "original" A10-position?
the thrust at the top of the mailbox might counteract the drag of the mailbox...
Center of gravity would of been too far back to overcome. :)
I hope you guys give it another go. I'd love to see that gun spinning in flight.
Idea for a video:
Very fast giant plane !
Hey guys nice work!
You do a lot of historic airplanes. But what about building futuristic ones? E.g. The big plane from Tron?
I personally tried to build one, but it didn't go well sinceI have not even a year of flight experience
Hey you should make a stealth bomber but it has to big huge.✈✈🛩🛩 LOVE YOUT VIDEOS
awesome, this should one of you regular planes, a "FATTY SERIES" is what we need here guys with like 800-1000mm wingspann maybe :D
You guys should make the razor crest from the mandalorian
You should get a bunch of warbirds and put airsoft guns on them and then have a huge battle
Hey, I saw you all droping ducks and watermelon, cool. Now how about dropping a rc plane from another flying rc plane which also fly. A video of this content will be cool.
Hope this can inspire others too
You guys inspired me to start flying thank you for the inspiration:)
Thank you brother! Happy flying!
