This is so important! And sometimes ‘Made in China’ or made in other countries that we usually associate with sweatshop labor does not equal unethical. I’m not saying China and Bangladesh for example, aren’t big culprits when it comes to exploitation, because they are, I’m just saying that sometimes it depends. Not everything made in a certain country is produced unethically. Obviously brands manufacture overseas because it’s cheaper for them, but it depends. I’m from Mexico and we are usually thought of as unethical/sweatshop labor, and while it definitely happens a lot, there are also many artisan ateliers and manufacturers that don’t exploit their workers. As consumers I think it all comes down to making our fair share of research.

Yes, absolutely! Location doesn't really tell us much when it comes to knowing whether something was ethically made. I know several ethical brands that manufacture in Asia.

In Belgium they sometimes put 'Designed in Belgium' very prominent on the label, and the country where it was manufactured somewhere less visible. I hate this even more, because than it makes it very clear they are aware that what they are doing is wrong.

My parents worked in garment factories in NYC throughout the 80s, 90s, and 2000s. I've never seen anyone or anything detailing even a little of what goes on in them. Thank you for making this video. I hope it gets more views.

YESS this is why "made in LA" is not always good! Just because something is local, doesn't mean it is ethical at all. That idea is called the "local trap" I think

Absolutely! It's quite sad how this is used to try to say a brand is ethical, given the awful conditions many workers in LA face!

This was a quick (given the topic) and very informative video, great job! I noticed the comment that said the bill was signed and would like to know if there has been any outcome thus far?

I liked groceries apparel too, until I found out the person running all of their socials is anti-mask. I asked about it on Twitter and Instagram (because they sell masks and promote wearing them) but get blocked every time. Won't be supporting them anymore.

There are also sweatshops, that which do employ American workers, except that those different workers are adults with disabilities, that like myself, that who, in my case are mandatorily ordered to work there! And that while working conditions are safe, as that those sweatshops, that which employ adults with disabilities such as myself are )CARF( accredited, adults with disabilities are still paid sub-minimum wages. And when someone is brought on as, what they call, an )ERS( a time study is performed after the first month after the start date of the employee ,that who is disabled and every 6 months there after! This is because of a legal, but out-dated and retarded loop hole in the )FLSA( known as Section14)C( that which excludes adults with disabilities from basic minimum wage protections! Furthermore, that while those adults with disabilities have survival income from the Social Security Administration, in the form of )SSA( )SSDI( or )SSI( that the sub-minimum wages are more for things just like going out for a meal and a movie on. A very cheap meal at that! And that company CEOs that who oversee those sweatshops, also known as sheltered workshops are making multi-figure salaries that which are way above and beyond industry norms! Important acronyms to remember. )CARF( is the acronym for Certified Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities, )CEO( Chief Executive Officer, )FLSA( stands for Fair Labor Standards Act, )SSA stands for Social Security Administration, )SSDI( stands for Social Security Disability Insurance and )SSI( stands for Supplemental Security Income. Glad I can bring this to your attention.
