Did you miss the part where he said he remote starts the vehicle for it to warm up before he gets in it and turns the key? With OEM controls the cab warms up as the vehicle's engine warms up. With this system, the fan and control;s are OFF until he turns the key and the radio boots 35 seconds later.
recent research has shown that it's just better to run vehicle cold at easy RPM range for a few minutes going to school or work and thus heat core kicks in quicker. I've tried this and do notice a difference, but it seems like forever when your cold or you kids are whining about being cold, then all to soon everyone is hot! lol
When you start the truck the heat is off, and it stays off until you physically walk out to the truck and turn it on. Your truck could idle for 8 hrs with no heat cuz the new screen automatically shuts off the heat or AC every time you start the truck
This thing is trash!! Got one after watching this video and as soon as it was installed none of the ac/ heat components worked. Dealt with customer service for weeks trying to go through settings but nothing. Finally they decide it was a bad ac card and in order for me to get another without waiting a couple more weeks I was told it was their policy that a deposit on another would have to be put down. On top of the ac/ heat issue the temperature guage only shows Celsius and no way to change it, the date/ time never stays how you set it and the unit is pretty slow and glitches quite a bit. I learned the hard way that it's trash and customer service is horrible. You've been warned
I think the moral of this story is; don't bother spending twenty minutes to pry off the driver's side radio dash panel without removing the gauge cluster to make it easier, when your just gonna pull the same gauge cluster off twenty minutes later to hook up the power harness to the back of it.
You need to go into your settings and change your city or time zone. It seems to think you are one time zone over. I appreciate the video and you made it a family affair. Nice. Thank you for sharing because I want something like this in my 1980 Jeep Cherokee SJ.
Why would you need that? You'll be in the car anyways and this thing is literally a huge phone. Plus your phone should be in your pocket when you drive.
@@esaedvik I was talking about after auto starting the truck in the mornings to get around the tablet defaulting to off for the heating and air controls. Not while driving.

First time on the channel. Thanks for the vid Red Beard. I have a 2018 F-150 and have seen these for the F-150 and think it looks great. Of course I had the same concerns that you spoke about so I'm glad I found this video to see your review on it. I'm about to check out your channel to see if you posted another video of it after you had for a few months like you spoke about at the end and if not then I just subscribed and will check it out once you post it. Again, thanks for the video and I'm glad I found your channel. God Bless Brother.

Hey Red Beard, how about an update video? I have a 2011 f-150 and I am looking to upgrade my radio. Are these Phoenix units worth it, or is there a better product out there?
Granted, it’s 3 years after your video. but, I bought the 13” for my ‘12 Raptor and I love it! Startup is about 15 seconds for it to fully boot. I'm pretty sure, you forgot to install the always hot wire. Most every android radio o have installed will have one hard boot, and after that, it just goes to sleep so that when you start the truck, or vehicle, it just takes a second too soft boot.
That's a pretty sweet upgrade! I have a 2013 and might have to try this... I know this video is a year old but, @ 28:12 when you hit the home button, I noticed the time was correct there and wrong above it in the notification bar (top). This is how screens should be and not those stuck on the dash pad like screens. Waiting for a screen like that on the passenger side as well for their personal entertainment and video watching. .

Way easier to install than the iPad I installed in my truck. The screen looks great, the HVAC issue kind of sucks but an update by the devs could fix that I would think, that is if they want to fix it. Unfortunately this company doesn't make one that will work in my truck but I'm fine with my iPad install, Great vid Brother.
@Ryan this is also just an android tablet with custom trim, it's no different. in fact the ipad probably has a lot better hardware on day 1 since the guy in the video said this one already struggles to run google maps
@@tech99070 Yup, these will be so dated and insecure when they don't get any major security updates. That said, if you can get the same harness and software for an iPad, which I doubt, I'd definitely go for that. This video is gold. These are the exact issues I was afraid of when i was looking at this unit. I hope they can fix it and would love to hear any feedback you get.
"Braxton is locking doors like he owns the place" Lmao, thanks for the video, hadn't heard of the company but they make a similar product for my explorer. I've been wanting to put one of these in for a while, but I hadn't found any good ones under $1000, so I had started building one, with the hard part being reverse engineering the canbus to replicate ac controls, steering wheel etc.... But this one is a good price and already has all the work done! basically a no brainer lol. Thank you!
While it doesn't yield you such a large screen I ended up putting a 2017 Ford Sync 3 unit into my 2013 F-150 Platinum. After programming the APIM the whole thing works with zero issues and I have factory ford Carplay/Android Auto in my '13.
Bit the bullet and bought one from them. Made sure I got the "high end" model (highest ram/rom and best cpu). With it being March 2024 hopefully all the bugs have been worked out.

That problem where it doesn't retain the last temps of the vehicle can be fixed with a software update, you'd just have to tell them so they can fix it, it's not cause of Android so to say, it's a software problem whoever programmed it
If you use a factory remote start system is automatically sets the heat while its running. It doesn't use the settings from the controls until you get in the truck. At least that's how my '11 F-150 works with factory aftermarket remote start (Ford system but uses a separate remote)
It overheated, the LCD suffered a chemical meltdown which launched it into outer space. It is currently traversing the Kuiper Belt. I'm happy to report all of the 7mm bolts however, held their own and survived the ordeal. They remained fastened in their original locations on the Ford's dash.
If you have a mono amp use a Y connector for your sub line and run your one radio connection to both amp channels. It actually sounds better than having 2 separate channels. My subs blew my mind, had them in my previous vehicle with a different head unit with separate channels and thought it sucked so I put my L7 kicker back in. This is the best advise I can give you for good sound from your sub or subs.
The factory screen that comes with the truck look really cheap and honestly their screen really looks small and kinda ridiculous. Much better looking and functional with the upgrade. Good job!

I'm shocked that is a full blown android os in there just like a tablet plus is integrated with the truck features. I always thought these types of things were neutered versions of android but not this one. And the install was fun to watch and informative. Honestly this was in my recommended videos and I don't even have a truck but it was cool to see anyway.
Holy Crap you are A GOD Redbeard! I have a 2015 Chevy Cruze that I drive UBER in when I have downtime or want some extra play cash. It looked like you had the daylight savings time on! Its not daylight standard time, that's why your time was 1 hour behind like you mentioned.
So after all this time are you still using this 12” system? If so what do you think about it?
Pretty sure it was huge FAIL if he hasn’t responded, China garbage , was expected
There are some people that after being around them( watching their video) and listening to them talk for 5 mins You immediately tell yourself, " I like this sum-bitch" . That is you kind sir.
Awesome video, keep up the informative content.
And keep being you,
Not that I need to tell you that.
At least it will give you something to play with while you wait for the tow truck to show up.
Holy Moly....you have to take the whole bloody dash apart to get that thing in there.
Is this display suitable for a Ford F150 2009?
I'm shocked that is a full blown android os in there just like a tablet plus is integrated with the truck features. I always thought these types of things were neutered versions of android but not this one. And the install was fun to watch and informative. Honestly this was in my recommended videos and I don't even have a truck but it was cool to see anyway.
Braxton is awesome
Holy Crap you are A GOD Redbeard! I have a 2015 Chevy Cruze that I drive UBER in when I have downtime or want some extra play cash. Having an Android Radio with Play Store Support and a HUGE screen will be a MILLION times better than having a stupid phone holder and trying to see that small screen-- I can just run the Uber Driver app from my radio! Contacting Phoenix TOMORROW to ensure the one they have on the website will fit my specific car. Had I never seen this video of yours or had I not been subscribed to you, I would have NEVER fixed/solved/figured this annoyance out. Thanks Bud!
