I can appreciate that you didn’t edit out your “lessons learned”. This gives people actual perspective of what installers encounter while doing installs. Turned out nice!
Yes definitely agree no edit so you can see what really goes on unlike these other Jokers editing stuff and make it look like an install came from Alice and Wonderland
I agree, it is nice to see that. At the same time, it would be nice to have a smooth install video as well so you could follow step by step. Just a thought.
Your attention to detail is amazing. The fact that you took things apart multiple time to make it right rather than just doing a sub par job is a true testament to your work ethic. Great job...love the Video. I am in San Diego...might have to drive up to you to get some things installed
*Powers on stereo* *All airbags deploy simultaneously, and front ball joints fail* Joking... this is an awesome and meticulous install. Very nice to see you using solder during the harness build. On a side note, it's always fun to solder then realize you forgot a piece of heat shrink.
I remember when I bought a pioneer head unit for my geo metro and had it installed in 15 minutes before I went out for the night. Oh how times have changed.
Hell of a install. Much more complicated on this ford than my 4runner. Just a piece of advice there is a firmware update for the XAV-AX5000. You need both the USB 1 and USB 2 to do the update. Good thing you still have access to them.
Man when they are going to release wireless powered HU. 8 years is alot for just wire protection. Sick install. Kinda tense install with all these modules and plugs. The end of the video is relief when everything worked.
I would do, too. Especially on my Mustang where Metra also has two kits for. At least on my Mustang the HVAC interface from Metra is not really good. Kinda like a digital control, i.e. constantly switching between ice cold and really hot to mix the air to reach the desired temperature. In addition the blowers make some strange noises which aren't there with the stock controls. I therefor ripped the Metra kit out again and put in a SYNC3 retrofit.
Great job! So many modules and cables in these now! I’m watching this and getting a sinking feeling and thinking “I’ve got a bad feeling about this...”
That's a nice upgrade, but the amount of wires needing to be stuffed in the dash is nuts! I still enjoy doing these installs from time to time even with that said. Lol.
Good job, I put a Pioneer 4400 Nex In my Chevy avalanche and the biggest Problem I had was putting it back in the dash with all the wiring. I was so frustrated i had walk away from it a finish the day.
That's the best looking after market install kit I have seen. Looks almost factory. Question : The truck had existing Sync which has a built-in mike. Why did the Sony not utilize the Sync mike instead of having to install a separate mike?
The Sony doesn't utilize it bc the radio itself doesn't retain sync. The module that was installed does. Because of this, SYNC operates almost completely independently of the radio.
I'm sure that when you started the video I had a haircut like that of rod stewart ... thanks, I liked the video, it was easy for me to understand your English (I do not speak it, and I read it a little bit more) lazy put the subtitles of the video ... thank you very much sir!
I can't get audio on front speakers after installation of this kit. My understanding is the Gray and White wires go on the 16pin harness and the remainder purple and green on the big 5834 harness. Would you have an idea on what to Check.
Quality install, nice work and thatnks for keeping the few OOPS moments. Anyone whos installed a car stereo has had theyre share and had to redo or rewire a OOPS. Looked great, except for the Metra touch screen climate controlls. Personally I would prefer the factory styke controlls.
Thanks Todd! Yea we wanted to change it up and put more of the minor mistakes and moments of trying to figure things out to make it more relatable. Glad you liked it!
@Qualitymobilevideo I see you have 3 red wires connected and 3 black wires connected together. Current installer is not getting the head unit to turn on. Thinking that's the issue. Thx
Would be great if you press that INFO button (bottom right of HVAC LCD) and show us what happens. According to Metra, this is supposedly the retained Sync world. But Metra's terrible doc does not go any further into it. After you press INFO, does the screen retain 100% of Ford's 4.2" screen? including phone pairing options and a USB mp3 player? (assuming your factory USB port is still plugged into the APIM, or Sync module)
Got a question for ya. 2013 f150 had the 4.2 screen i have the metra kit 99-5846b kit. I'm not getting inside and outside temp displaying on the metra display which my original system had, had outside temp not inside. and i'm not able to get the rear cam to my deck instead of my rear view mirror. everything else is working good and pretty happy overall except the price but i get it there's a lot into this kit.
After preforming this kit to my vehicle I am now hearing static going to that door speakers but it’s stop when the unit is muted or music is paused and ideas or help on this topic ?
the joke about the nickelback cd made me chuckle because we bought a 09 f-150 as kind of a beater and there was actually a nickelback cd in it when we got it home
Great video. I have a question, I have a 2007 Ford Mustang. Does your company have the same thing for the most part in the video for my car? As well as good quality back up camera and how to I stall properly.
So this is completely plug and play? No reprogramming of anything? I was told going from the little 4" screen to 8" screen with NAV is a nightmare. This seems a WHOLE lot more simple.
Does your phone have to mirror everything the radio screen sees? For example can you have texts open on your phone and waze navigating on the head unit at the same time?
I've got one a my 2018 LT no Bose and it's a Kenwood excelon and I have full function. Nav, outside temp, tire pressures, Bluetooth, wireless apple carplay and Android auto.

not a hard install for sure but id use the pac dash kit part RPK4-FD2201. much better kit and data bus than anything metra can put out. and in most cases its cheaper. i found them for my customers around $380-450.

@@alexcockerill Check out the website: crutchfield.com. Plus there's tons of YT videos that describe the what and how's about car audio.
