    Totally understand the JCW argument, I’ve got a Cooper S and although it’s running a lot more power than a FJCW thanks to Lohen, it still isn’t one. I refuse to put anything JCW on my mini (styling wise).

      When my wife had a Cooper S back in 09 we looked at the JCW styling pack for it as it does look good. On researching the insurance side it was going to cost around 200 quid more for having it on!!....didnt bother.

      @@davidoliver7977 madness isn’t it, especially because they came as a factory option for the aero kit. I’ve just left mine looking standard and messed with engine. Full mods declared though.

      @@tompritchard2135 From factory was the way to go and it was a close decision, but her indoors was content in the end with the upgraded exhaust tips in silver, which made a difference to the look. It was the auto too which she wanted and to be fair was not a bad drive and if I remember had a kind of overboost for a second or 3 under hard acceleration...happy days loved it. On my 50th she kindly used the part ex of it to buy me a 997 Carrera S which was a lovely surprise as she loved that mini. As I always say she's worth avin lol.

      @@davidoliver7977 certainly was the way to go. Honestly you can do so much with these minis, I’ve got a different exhaust system on mine now and it’s a much better tone than standard, but not massively loud. 0-60 I’ve timed at 5.3 with the modifications that I’ve done to the mini. That’s a nice surprise isn’t it! How did the Porsche feel compared? I know a few people who have had a Porsche and they love it, but they said the mini was a bit more fun!

      Had the same experience years ago with a Merc, and since then (although they repaired it) never had a car cleaned on a service. Its usually a quick power wash anyway and that is where the issue came as they took a chunk out of the bonnet. and it also looked as though they had dropped the shammy and the grit was evident in the scratches all over. I guess they have to be so quick washing them so no respect given to the product.

    I agree. JCW is and has always been a tuning/performance option. From the 60s till now, a paint job doesn't count as JCW in my mind. Anyway congrats on 1yr for Charlie. My Cooper SE (electric in the UK) has just hit the 6 month milestone. Nothing has gone wrong, and I still love it. To be honest I don't use the pill style display much, as the head up display has everything I need. I suppose I use it to check out the instantaneous power consumption, but that is about all. Firstly, Congratulations on 100,000 subscribers Ped! Very well deserved. I have been watching since your video on the F56 JCW at Snows Portsmouth, and in that time you have quickly become my most watched car TH-camr. I totally agree on the point about the JCW badging. I have an R56 Cooper S with the JCW Chilli pack and the only JCW badges I have are on the door sills. Even the centre caps just say MINI. I do think they went a little overboard with the badging on the F56 JCW packs, especially on LCI 2, which appears to have a massive JCW badge on the grill even on the One/Cooper. I am surprised that they told you they couldn’t wash Charlie because of Covid. My main dealer were more than happy to offer the service when I took mine in for its MOT last week!

    The one thing that tempts me to the digital dash is that the Tach is much easier to read for manual shifting. I find the old Tach a real pain, especially with such a low redline.
    Has nobody else noticed that the gap between second and third gears is far too wide? You would think, with 8 gears, they could make the spacing more convenient for lower speed winding roads.

    Completely agree on the point about the JCW styling and how MINI use it. It’s similar to how I disagree with BMW putting an exhaust pipe either side of the car on the new BMW...320d - it looks great don’t get me wrong, but such styling should be reserved for the higher spec cars in the 3 Series range in my humble opinion (I say this as a former 320d owner, current JCW Hatch owner!)

It's nice to see that they have added a few other parts to it. They will usually give you 5 services over 5yrs or 50K, something like that, with the Service Pack, the other equasion you need to think about is will the miles you do in the Clubman let you take advantage of all the services. The car varies the miles between services also depending on how you drive. I missed out on my last one because of this. From what you have said, you should even out after the 3rd service?

  • @andrewtrodd5478

    Hi Pete concerning the JCW argument, I understand where you're coming from I bought a Cooper S just before first lockdown it was my first Mini so not a connoisseur, I loved the styling kit not knowing it was JCW until I sat in it and saw the badge on the steering wheel. I was disappointed at first because I didn't want it to look like it's trying to be something it's not in the same way as teenagers used to make standard escorts look like an XR3i. When I realised it was more about styling options I accepted it, I love the JCW spoiler and that's the only extra on the exterior the interior is standard Cooper S but it has the JCW steering wheel which looks great but I would prefer if it didn't have JCW badge on it, at least there's no badging on the exterior. I did find your comments interesting especially knowing that you have put rally mud flaps on a car that as far as I am aware they do not rally😉

    I can see where you’re coming from with the JCW observations, seems fair enough to me. Our Abarth 124 is getting its second service at the end of the month..... it’s not even done 2k miles sine it’s first!! Blooming lockdown is to blame.. But on a positive note, should get a nice discount for being in the Abarth South East club..

    ...Your enthusiasm has been noted! After 3 months of gut-wrenching research to replace our Subaru Crosstreck Hybrid and perfect Honda S2000, the Clubman JCW has risen to the top of the automotive heap so to say. A husband and wife have their needs and that’s why compromise was invented. A big Saturday in the US of A for us; ordering a ‘22 Clubman JCW then rushing off for a COVID vaccine; what a day. Promises were made and fortunes may be lost but in the end, we hope to have made the best decision to travel once again! God speed, Petrol Ped, your subscribers and all forms of car enthusiasts. Great to see more Charlie Clubman action on the channel Pete. I’ve been thinking about a service plan, so I might well look into that following your insight. I tend to agree about the JCW branding - something I don’t have a dilemma about with my 3 pot Cooper Exclusive. Interestingly, sports mode makes a big difference on the 3 pot - not night and day, but throttle response is much better. Good to hear differing views on things, I personally love the digital dash and when I bought mine it was a chore to source one, it was that new on the LCI. Shame about the twig on the scuttle - even the dealer didn’t kindly remove it for you. 😉 All the best as always.

    I feel much the same about the whole JCW badging without the JCW reality. Anyone can slap whatever they want on their car, but it doesn't make it the thing they wish. It really does cheapen what they are doing by having a flagship car, by then one that just looks like it. I agree, they should just call it "The Works" package or something else.

It’s confusing. I also prefer the analog gauges over digital. The only thing I would like to add are Union Jack taillights but they are so expensive to get from Australia.

    Hi,
    Having had 5 MINIs including two JCWs (F56 and F54) I totally agree with your sentiments around devaluing the JCW brand.
    The other issue which I have to bite my tongue around when on the MINI forums is people who buy their MINI then attempt to make huge modifications to make them a Cooper S or JCW.
    Just take you time and buy the MINI with the options already on instead of I wish it had this or that option.
    Basically, buy the right MINI (or any car) in the first instance, there is enough choice out there and by following this route the end cost is usually cheaper.
    Just my two penny worth, thank you for the video update, appreciated

      I absolutely love my MINI Countryman Cooper S, coming from two Clubmans (Cooper S and JCW) they are different.
      I would have stayed with the Clubman but I found the barn doors a pain in the arse, a hatch would be better for this model.
      Try both models out for size before committing.

    Hey Ped, when I bought my f56 Cooper S I chose the classic trim, which doesn't have paddles, the sports trim has the paddles, JCW steering wheel, hub caps etc... then there was the top spec which I think was 'exclusive' or similar. I didn't want a faux JCW either and wasn't bothered about paddles. I'm someone who prefers a stealth car than a bog standard one made to look like it's more than it is.

  • @moovrr
    @moovrr 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I also hadn't really thought about the JCW brand being diluted until you 'got in a flap', and I can see some buyers not knowing our caring about the difference, but as a previous JCW owner I care. Your 'Works' suggestion was great and should get board approval right away...once they've sold the few million JCW parts 😉

  • @TomChappell1998
    @TomChappell1998 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    It's really interesting you bring this JCW issue up! On the new LCI MINI Hatches, you get a full-on PROPER JCW badge on the front grille even if it is just Sport trim (doesn't have to be Cooper S either). I agree that it devalues the JCW engined models, but then again, I like the JCW styling being available across the range. Perhaps a different JCW-lite sub-brand should be used.

    I have a 2018 F54 Clubman SD which I bought as an approved Mini .
    Very fortunately I lucked out and got one with the 3 year/36000 mile service pack which the original owner had taken out which transferred to me.
    I have taken the mileage from 8500 to 34500 miles in 17 months of ownership so the service pack has proven very worthwhile.

    Nailed it on the JCW pack stuff. Really annoyed me when they brought it out after I bought my JCW. Bits also like the red roof and mirrors were supposedly only for JCWs but then they started letting you option them on anything. It all takes away from the genuine JCWs. Hopefully they don't do the same with GP parts (apart from the diff!).

    Great vid, once again. I'm a bit late catching up this week. Just picked up my new Countryman JCW a couple of weeks ago & enjoying it as best I can given current Covid situation. Looking forward to some trips up into our nearby Highlands, once we get the all-clear. Someone really needs to sort the potholes & state of the roads though first. Diabolical state up here & I guess elsewhere also? Missus got a blow out in her Up GTi on the way down to pick up my JCW!
    I got service plan from new & only £650 btw up here. Paid monthly @ 0% over 3 years, so less than £18 a month. Not bad for main dealer prices. Interested in your comment re driving lamps. I too was eager to have them put on my new vehicle, but was told that they couldn't be fitted, by BMW/ Mini, due to new pedestrian related regulations :-( I guess I'll have to source them outwith the dealer & hope it doesn't affect warranty? Maybe you could look into, with your contacts? :-)
