They make up for it by making their games modable. I really hope they never stop doing that. Plus, be fair: their games carry, like, 10,000 variables that you don’t see in a lot of other games. How often do you see a world full of miscellaneous items just lying around, any of which you can add to your inventory, OR just throw them around because why not, OR shoot them, OR walk into them, causing them to move and make a sound? Admittedly my experience is limited, but I can’t think of any game which does this that is not also published and/or developed by Bethesda. And that’s just the items. Hell, that’s just the LOOSE items. That’s just one feature. These games are massive undertakings. Yes, Bethesda needs to play test more. They should definitely get more beta feedback before releasing the full title, and they should be prepared to delay launch in order to deal with that feedback accordingly. That’s not how any game company does it, unfortunately. I don’t think betas actually delay release for any problem short of “this game crashes on launch, sends random pornography to every address in your contacts list, wipes your hard drive, wipes your neighbor’s hard drive, and somehow sets your monitor on fire. In that order.” They also need to support the games they release for longer after they’ve been released. I first played Skyrim on the PS3, and some problems just...never got fixed. Quite a few, in fact. So yeah. It’d be nice if Bethesda released more patches. But even still, they make some great games. Some of the best, most ambitious projects on the market, in fact. At least, from a technological perspective. Fallout 4’s story was...underwhelming, and I really disliked the fact that the faction quests all lead into the main story, because that cuts deeply into the total amount of content in terms of playable hours. It was kinda clever, but I prefer it the other way. Or, ideally, some combination of the two: like, say I kill the emperor in Skyrim. It’d be cool if that had tertiary effects on, I dunno, the security in cities, or the economy, or dialogue...that’d be awesome. But I’d like to end on the point that these are good games.

Siddhant jain yup and Skyrim was so aweful, they released it again on the next gen system and sold game of the year numbers again. Bethesda should just close down... SMDH WHY
Siddhant jain bugs or notSkyrim is the Game I dreamt of 28 years ago playing Zelda 2 on my Nintendo . The pinnacle of the controller based console rpg.
Seriously lol. It doesn't even matter that the lockpicking mini game renders behind walls, you can just stick your hand in to whatever you're picking the lock on and use the interact button!
"Visual style and ATTENTION to DETAIL that BETHESDA put into their games" "attention to detail" and "Bethesda" in one sentence not working like creation engine in any game
Umbeble Hahaa I though someone might mention that when I was editing that bit, and I do agree ha, but what I mean is there are lots of subtle and well designed animations on the robots and environments, its something I never noticed before but in VR it is honestly really cool to notice
"gimmick", AKA I'm too poor to afford a good HMD therefor I want VR to crash and burn so I don't have to feel like I'm missing out on something good, being the 2D bum that I am.
The bowling bit at the end.. Genius. Bet I can explain it with a quick observation... the game engine... doesn't know how much a rendered object weighs. Thus.. everything weighs the same in the engine, and you get those results. (That's also why sometimes a bullet in VATS will send objects/bodies flying)
Actually it's another one of those Bethesda things. You're almost correct: Havok (a 3rd party tool used by Bethesda) handles the physics simulations in the engine (and animal behaviours and other things) and you can actually set different weights and type of materials to objects when you create them but developers are lazy so all the 3D assets in the game are added with default values. And that's why they all weight the same. Pure bethetic laziness.
they're not "as lazy as can be" they're just like "well we've spent 5 years creating this beautiful and immersive world. Im sure players won't notice that we spent time doing that rather than making interesting characters, or making objects weigh different amounts".
There's a significant difference between building a world surrounding a theme and downright "Good enough... it's not like someone's actually going to use these bowling pins for their intended purpose" ... so they cut corners. I get that, I am a lazy bastard... but I'm not trying to get millions of people to give me money just to cut corners. PS: If I do something that is going to be seen by anyone, even if it's just building a fence, I'm not gonna half-ass it just because I've put down some really good foundation for it, only to make a junk-wall.
Bethesda has it's own uncanny valley curve. When they do something good, they do it so well that the problems that are left become incredibly glaring and throw everything off.
Hey, so actual question, why hasn't VR support been modded into the base game? I could think of a million ways to do the controls better, such as having the pip boy screen actually on your arm or holding rifles with two hands, and I'm sure removing the current lockpicking or menu mechanics and replacing them with new VR alternatives wouldn't be too hard for the more experienced mod makers.
Absolutely fucking basic question. Why not add VR support to the already existing game or you know make it like a dlc or an expansion for the game costing 25-40$ maximum. Companies like Bethesda, EA, Activision and motherfucking Nintendo are taking gamers for a ride these days and its infuriating to see just how gullible the average gamer is to buy into their greed!!!!
since it has a lot of the same bugs as regular ol' fallout 4, my guess is that's basically what they did, then packaged it as a different game so they could charge people $60 for it instead of just releasing a patch. Or, I guess, one could argue that they did this to reduce issues with mod support and VR not working well together.
It was a test and an experiment, nothing more. Better than all the small, tiny little experiences everyone else is creating, not really pushing the envelope.
@Zombiefinatic Fallout 4 was hardly a test of technology nor a test of Bethesda. Technology wise, Fallout 4 is mostly what we've been used to. It's another video-game and shares little of it's own unique, redeeming innovations. Bethesda wise, they chose to throw away what people liked about Fallout; despite doing this, they still made a profit and it proved that they, nor any other company, needs to care about the dedicated fans and instead the more lucrative mass-market of the gaming industry. A pity, but a fact nonetheless. Dedicated fandoms are much, much smaller and therefore less profitable in comparison to the entirety of the gaming community.
We're still figuring out VR. Bethesda is a pretty big company and a well known one at that. I don't think companies of their tier would release trash like that for VR. Either that or they really underestimated how long it would take to optimize it for VR and ran out of time.
I hate to say it but Bethesda is so lazy I’m pretty sure they can make a game that is just an empty broken vast land scape and expect the modders to fix it way to make another unfinished product good job Bethesda really does mean misery
It's Bethesda, the best-worst in gaming. Their games are generally extraordinarily fun in some ways and utterly infuriating in others. It's going to be spectacular if it's a Bethesda game. The question is wether the spectacularly good parts outweigh the inevitable spectacularly bad.
For something to be spectacularly good it needs to be innovative. If it isn't, it needs to make up for it by applying the old techniques better than anyone has done before. All FO4 did was dumb down the mechanics of their previous game and slap a fresh coat of paint on it. It was a struggle to beat the game once, where as it was hard to pull myself away from FO3.
Korrina Horn mechanics? Like what? If you mean the shooting or combat felt better, then why are you playing a ROLE PLAYING GAME to shoot shit. Go play an FPS if thats what you are looking for. They will without a doubt handle the mechanics better. Why do you think VATs is even in the fallout games? Fallout 4 gives you a super suit like 15 minutes into the game. You don't even have to work for that gear and it ruins most of the game because of how much power it gives you. The first Deathclaw encounter (also like 15 minutes in) is literally just 'hold left click to kill'. Those things are meant to be intimidating. And don't even get me started on leveling up. The perk tree is so boring. You don't even feel like you're progressing as a character. In FO3 the perks were like real decisions. Some were boring stat increases, but many of them only helped with specific things. Like more damage vs. robots, or 'extra dialogue options with children' or 'more damage to the opposite sex'. On the other hand, almost every single perk in FO4 is just +20% upgrades to shit. Fucking kill me now.
oh, that's good. i have no doubt they would try to spin it that way in the future. maybe say it's your character slowly losing his mind and you as the character gets to experience the characters psychosis first hand as visual hallucinations.
Don't have a Vive, but Fallout 4 VR seems like an interesting step in the right direction. It's kind of breaking immersion that you can't see the player characters arms though. Guns just floating in mid-air looks kind of wierd, even despite the bugs and glitches showcased in this video.
I normally wait a few years for new technologies to improve and come down in price before I buy it...why pay £600 when you can get it for £250 2nd hand and play the exact same game once the majority of the bugs have been fixed!
If you'd like to help me make more of these you can support me on patreon! The random debris in my carpet can only sustain me for so long...: www.patreon.com/user?u=2784847 I really enjoyed making this so I hope the video makes you laugh!! Ending remix: th-cam.com/video/Tc62laYv250/w-d-xo.html
You need to release the bowling ball sooner if you want it to carry more momentum to knock those pins down. Though to be fair that should've knocked down at least 2 pins.
I really don't get why molotov / grenade is on the grip button. You have to press the grip buttons to reload but it always just throws a molotov at your feet instead, and even if you do catch it before releasing the buttons there's no way to "deactivate" the molotov you're holding! I had to literally go into the custom settings file and change the delay just so that I could reload. Seriously Bethesda, how did the inability to reload weapons make it through testing?
If you don't have the pipboy on your wrist then you can cancel a maltov by bringing up the pipboy. You can also change a setting in the ini so you have to hold grip a little longer to trigger maltovs and such which really helps a lot.
King Amaree you wont have to wait quite as long for the next one :D took some Christmas time between this and the last. I am so thrilled you enjoy them!!
You do realize this is Bethesda you're talking about right? Famous for bugs, glitches, and constant crashes. Examples? Fallout 3, New Vegas AND 4. What's even more ironic is their website. It's just as bad at loading as their games.
+John P You know you could just use the default controls...like most people...because they work just fine. Having fully rebindable keys is a nice quality of life feature but it's not exactly mandatory for a game to be good.
" A port of one of the biggest games of the decade ( here is the part that scared me) , a flagship series that represents what they as a company are capable of" If that statement is close to truth, I don't actually want them to make Elders scroll 6. Just keep porting Skyrim over and over till I can play it on my refrigerator's screen. FO4 was a let down as an RPG. Maybe as some sort of apprentice level contractor simulator goes it totally rules.
Weapons floating in mid air, visible controlls for the character... Yes, very immersive when the game works. At least with the regular game, you can forget the outside world totally just by looking at your screen because you are operating the controlls by heart. While in VR, you seem to be constantly reminded about the fact that you are just inside an simulation. The controll sticks, with the menus look absolutely ridicilous against the gameworld backdrop. The weapons would have a ton more credibility, if there would be actual limbs holding them - like in the regular version. Sometimes you can only blame yourself when shit hits the fan after you have purchassed something. Avoiding any hypes actually pays off, or at least saves you a pretty penny.
I don't know if you've ever played VR before, but it is next level immersion. Even this broken buggy mess is most likely orders of magnitude more immersive than your regular ol computer screen.
Koven Maitreya I doubt that I could use VR goggles due to fact that I have bad near - and farsights and sensitive middle ear. My head would be probably spinning like crazy and I would be puking my guts out due to nausea. So yes, next step of immersion for the persons like I am.
I'm sorry to hear that. You're definitely missing out. If they ever get VR to some the same gameplay delivery quality of current computers and peripherals, then it would outdo any kind of gaming to date in terms of immersiveness.
Koven Maitreya I think that people often just misunderstand the whole concept of immersiveness. The word it self means the ability to sink into any game due to the fact of it's riveting nature. There is no need for VR to be able to achieve that. If the game is inherently full of crap, putting on VR goggles wouldn't change that. But maybe if the current issues which I mentioned can be remedied so that it wouldn't cause nausea and predispose even more to apoleptic fits, it would be something worth trying. The current technology just don't work for all.

I honestly want Fallout 4 to purposely fuck itself up more and more so I can watch videos similar to these. Please Todd, release a patch that purposely ducks everything up. You know that.. “it’d just work”.
I don't know why you want a game to fail. As much as I hate Bethesda, EA, and bungie I still want them to learn from their mistakes and get back to making good games. I'd have more enjoyment playing a fun game instead of watching a youtuber rip it a new asshole.
Omg thank you so much for explaining this. I was about to go out and buy a VR headset just to play this since I was an idiot and dropped $500 on a PSVR bundle thinking it was on there too, cause...why wouldn't it be since they released Skyrim in VR on the PSVR. But then I realized that it wasn't, so I found a reasonably priced VR Headset on eBay so I could play Fallout 4 in VR. But if this is what I have to look forward to, no thanks!! I remember back when I was a kid when video games didn't come out with all these crazy bugs and game-breaking problems. When video game companies actually gave a damn about making sure their product worked before ever releasing it rather than getting that money. But anyway enough of my rant. Thanks for letting me know about this.
Yeah with the menus rendering behind walls is easy to fix... Just take a step back, the menus are at a fixed distance and the walls don't move. I wish they put the menus on the top layer of reality. Also putting 30 hours on this game is amazing, try to make a basket with a basketball, it only took me like 30 minutes. Thanks for the review man 10/10 as normal!
you say decade like thats a short period of time. Also way to compare 2 different game series you fuck twit. should be comparing the time difference between NV and Fallout 4 release dates.
TheRageQuitter and for Bethesda releasing their two big IPs in the same decade is an accomplishment and btw Obsidian Entertainment made NV not Bethesda Game Studios
TheRageQuitter >two different series >bethesda still manages to confuse the two and practically merge their gameplay/mechanics with the main differences being one has guns
Joseph Willis buy an oculus, it’s essentially the same apart from the the fact that the oculus has some exclusives and more controller buttons. (Also you don’t have to use those terrible steam touch pads, it’s embarrassing that you have to spend 200 extra dollars for those, oof)

Then they can be like "Yeah it's fine." And be done with it. But noooooo, the video has to be taken down then they either get permission or don't include it.
(Apologies for the late reply, TH-cam didn't notify me for some reason) But if you still see this then sure feel free to! Thank you again for crediting me ^^

This makes 10x more sense, considering the evidence that Bethesda is as lazy as they can be.
they're not "as lazy as can be" they're just like "well we've spent 5 years creating this beautiful and immersive world.

Someone will probably reverse engineer Fallout4VR and make a mod for it that's better in every single fucking way.
since it has a lot of the same bugs as regular ol' fallout 4, my guess is that's basically what they did, then packaged it as a different game so they could charge people $60 for it instead of just releasing a patch. Or, I guess, one could argue that they did this to reduce issues with mod support and VR not working well together.
The pipboy is on your arm unless you actively chooses to have it projected.
Money
Fallout 4 VR more like we cant be fucked to make new games or more dlc so heres a re release but with worse controls
Private Thorn Careful now, the loyaltists might get ANGRY
It was a test and an experiment, nothing more. Better than all the small, tiny little experiences everyone else is creating, not really pushing the envelope.
Rhas 'Churol Fallout 4 was a test. It showed Bethesda failed with flying colors.
@Zombiefinatic
Fallout 4 was hardly a test of technology nor a test of Bethesda.
I don't even fucking WANT VR.
Are we still figuring out VR or is it just a major company too lazy to put in time for optimizing the game for VR port?
Probably it's the second one
We're still figuring out VR. Bethesda is a pretty big company and a well known one at that. I don't think companies of their tier would release trash like that for VR. Either that or they really underestimated how long it would take to optimize it for VR and ran out of time.
Bit a both
The latter definitely.
@@danimademe lol you still think that after fallout 76?

8:33 THAT CAUGHT ME SO OFF GUARD IM STILL LAUGHING
What weapon was that?
It's Bethesda, the best-worst in gaming. Their games are generally extraordinarily fun in some ways and utterly infuriating in others. It's going to be spectacular if it's a Bethesda game. The question is wether the spectacularly good parts outweigh the inevitable spectacularly bad.
Nothing about Fallout 4 is spectacular, that's likely the reason it got one GoT award from a shitty magazine that Bethesda likely paid off
For something to be spectacularly good it needs to be innovative. If it isn't, it needs to make up for it by applying the old techniques better than anyone has done before.
All FO4 did was dumb down the mechanics of their previous game and slap a fresh coat of paint on it. It was a struggle to beat the game once, where as it was hard to pull myself away from FO3.
+sirduggins the mechanics were much better for 4 than 3 you're high.
Korrina Horn
mechanics?

Testing? What testing?... Do you really think...
They dont test....the just leave shit for modders to fix ALL THE TIME

You do realize this is Bethesda you're talking about right? Famous for bugs, glitches, and constant crashes. Examples? Fallout 3, New Vegas AND 4. What's even more ironic is their website. It's just as bad at loading as their games.
wasnt obsidian the maker of new vegas?
+John P You know you could just use the default controls...like most people...because they work just fine. Having fully rebindable keys is a nice quality of life feature but it's not exactly mandatory for a game to be good.
umm what are you talking about? Fo:NV default key assigment pretty much follows the trends, WASD, E, F, Space, CTRL, and mouse.

" A port of one of the biggest games of the decade ( here is the part that scared me) , a flagship series that represents what they as a company are capable of"
If that statement is close to truth, I don't actually want them to make Elders scroll 6. Just keep porting Skyrim over and over till I can play it on my refrigerator's screen.
FO4 was a let down as an RPG. Maybe as some sort of apprentice level contractor simulator goes it totally rules.
What an absolute legend, says video is getting too long but doesn’t make it 2 ten minutes. Respect.
Atcually, it's already doing that, lol.

The part at around 3:00 with the imperial march has me laughing out loud.
Thanks for letting me know about this.

you say decade like thats a short period of time.
TheRageQuitter

>bethesda still manages to confuse the two and practically merge their gameplay/mechanics with the main differences being one has guns
