Fallout: New Vegas VR Is An Absolute Nightmare - This Is Why

- I recently learnt Fallout New Vegas could be turned into Fallout: New Vegas VR. Was it worth it? Well, no. Not really. As expected it's an absolute nightmare, and here's why.
Fallout: New Vegas is perhaps my all time favourite game, I assumed VR could only make it better, turning the Mojave into a huge 3D world to explore, and with working mods, what could be better? Be careful what you wish for.

Maybe with a few mods it's passable. These mods remove a lot of the incompatibility encountered when turning a non-VR game VR,
but with all the compromises and lack of hand support it is missing what makes VR so appealing to me. It's debatable whether or not this is as bad as Fallout 4 VR was on it's first day release
Until Fallout 76 comes out this'll be the last of the Fallout stuff for now, saying that if I get the beta it may be the next video!

Or do what me and my buddy did and just create absurd 1 second jump spells. Have fun jumping forward and hitting seven loading screens while staring at mostly fog until you land in a random area (maybe even a town if you're lucky) and having no idea where you are anymore.

The worst is when the OP or someone in the thread says "Oh, nevermind, I got it fixed / Oh, I found out what was wrong" and they don't say how they fixed it or what was wrong.
There needs to be rules where, if you pull that shit on a gaming forum, you get penalized, even banned. If you could tell people what you did, do it, and if you just jump in to tell people "Well it works for me", you damn well better post system specs so you're at least contributing something other than pissing off everyone else. Useless threads like those clutter the internet and waste everyone's fucking time. It's a detriment to all gamers, and a gaming forum should be against that.

Oh god, I'm gonna try again today now that I'm thinking about it, so satisfying just finding and applying mods. I have a 200 mod list for skyrim and it actually runs perfectly, took about 50 hours I'd guess, And I've only played like 4 lol
As a vegas local seeing my city in a game like this was awesome. It was the first time i played a game and recognized everything. It also really helped me get immersed haha.
I seem to recall that the enhanced camera mod had an option that allowed you to customize or otherwise completely remove zooming during npc dialogue. That may be quite handy when playing in VR

I own VorpX, Oculus and Alien Isolation. I can't believe it never occurred to me to put the three together. Now I am going to. Don't worry, I have spare underwear on standby.
alien isolation doesn't use Vorpx, it uses a mod that is amazing and really simple

That distortion from the initial settings reminds me of when I was playing around with FOV in my games and turned the setting up too high. Even without a screen strapped to my face, it still created a similar feeling of nausea.
I think that this problem could be alleviated somewhat by using a setting found in Bioshock 1: Horizontal FOV+ Lock.
What it did was keep your vertical vision somewhat restricted but allowed horizontal vision more freedom to see. Although it was still a bit restrictive in terms of vision. Better than regular 65° FOV but not much.

Big iron
What does the canteen even do? I keep it on me all the time and am always getting that message but it doesn't seem to make a difference to anything. Is there a drinking requirement in the game? I've never played it without the canteen lol

With the big IRON on your hip
If you're playing on hardcore mode there are food, water, and sleep requirements, among other changes. If you're not on hardcore the canteen is pretty much useless and not worth carrying around.
30-40 bucks for a program with a watermark? It's the early 2000's software in reverse. Wonder if the trail version doesn't have a watermark.

Just played TTW through VorpX. The Enhanced Camera mod where you can zoom out from dialogue is an absolute must. Absolutely amazing, though, and I hope F4NV will be ported to F4VR.

New Vegas in VR was one of the best gaming experiences I’ve had. For ambient music I used electronic pioneer Proem. Never experienced atmosphere like it.
I am not a fan of your machinima work, admittedly. Not that it is unimpressive, especially after watching your videos explaining the process and it's difficulties, but it's simply not interesting to me in particular. These recent review/expose videos of yours are absolutely perfect and I enjoy them immensely. I hope you are interested in continuing with these types of videos because I look forward to watching them.

I haven't watched any of the machinima, but I generally don't enjoy machinima very much, despite the process behind creating it being absolutely incredible and the content itself being quite interesting, but these review style videos are too perfect. To be fair, Fallout 4 VR was essentially just an official mod. Only things they added to make it run was an esp and a new executable.
Oh and a $60 price tag to make people buy the entire game again. Also they purposely left out the dlcs for some reason, added them in manually from my FO4 game and they ran fine.
Teirdalin after seeing how many issues this guy had to get the game properly running in VR and that he had to put up with so much jammed up stuff, how can you not appreciate that getting games to run well in VR is actually quite hard and would most likely not have been accomplished by modders, at least for quite some time. I’m not justifying 60 dollars, but it’s not just an official mod.
@@Billy-vb3qq Only thing that could not be added by modders is hand controls, and that is about a mods worth of effort in the exe with access to the source code. Literally the same exact files as the normal FO4 game, just with two new files being the executable and the esp if I recall from when I was messing with my files. They could have easily had this as a DLC. You can even add in the DLCs from normal FO4 and they work fine.
Also the resolution in the game is a bit of a blurry or overly sharp mess because they had the resolution tied to the testing screen resolution instead of the VR headset res, and they still never fixed this minor problem after it's been reported and claimed to be fixed forever now; leaving the game a bit of an ugly mess when played. I still enjoy it because- VR gunplay in Fallout, but it's a complete ripoff at full price for people who already own the base game; and a bit of an insult releasing it not as a DLC.
I may be happier with FO4 vr if they make it at least as good looking as VorpX with normal Fallout 4- or as clear looking as at least a unity game at the very, very least. Skyrim VR suffers from kinda blurry and oddly sharp visuals too but not as bad as FO4 VR.
But it'll always be sitting in my library for if they ever decide to fix things; which seems unlikely if FO76 is any indication of their current competence levels.
@@teirdalin What's funny is that most modded weapons work in fallout 4 VR, and most DLC weapons, sidequests, and missions work fine aswell, Had no problems at all with far harbor, and one of the weapons i used was from there, and it worked completely fine.

Elvin Glass not true, the game only got 94% when the goal was 95% so it was almost the score Bethesda wanted
It was 85 and they got 84. Also, they've made plenty of games since New Vegas. As for Fallout games, I don't see the need. Bethesda gave them the goal of a metacritic score of 85 because that would've been about 6 points below what Fallout 3 got (I'm averaging the score between available platforms.) Actually, if we go by metacritic averages, Fallout New Vegas with its average of 83.33, did wore than Fallout 3 or Fallout 4, which each got a average of 91.33 and 86.33 respectively.
Personally, I enjoyed all three games equally.
