    I get 26.5 combined on my 2001 Buick LeSabre with the 3.8L V6. The highest I've ever seen out of that car is 34 combined on a long highway trip. The fact that a full size SUV can get 31 mpg combined is absolutely mind-blowing! Really cool! That LZ0 is looking more and more attractive.

    Ordered a Duramax Suburban RST 4wd w/ tow package, luxury package, and sunroof back in Feb and it is being built in May. Hoping to pick it up sometime in early June. The larger 28 gallon fuel tank in the suburban combined with the efficient diesel should make a perfect road trip vehicle.

    Loved my 2020 3.0 Sierra, road tripping got 28 mpg combined from TN to CT. Unfortunately at 25k the fuel pump blew. it was replaced under warranty. Daily driving averaged 24mpg with a tank range of 560 or so. Road trips pushed 650 out of a tank.

    Great truck! My son got his 1 year ago and gets 35 plus on highway and 23 plus in town!! The issue is this screw job that GMC dealers are doing to customers! I have leased 4 previous trucks from a local dealer in Houston and have purchased 6 GMC trucks and 2 cars in my lifetime! Went to same dealer, was told 7000 over sticker , no discounts , I work for big company and we usually get 2500 off and repeat GMC buyer discount of 1850, take it or leave it. I called GMC and was told the dealer would honor GMC discount or else but nothing could be done with supplier discount! Finally found a GMC dealer in Conroe , Tx that would work with me and gave me both discounts and no market adjustment markup of 7000 dollars. Ford is doing it and so is many dealers and when it settles most long term buyers will no longer be loyal to them!

    I almost optioned the 3.0 diesel but with many short trips, I didn't want the HUGE expense of replacing the DPF at approximately 75,000 miles. (Several buddies had this expense with short distance driven diesels.) That expense, with added diesel and DEF fluid cost, made it a wash. The rubber oil pump belt maintenance cost that requires dropping the transmission further increased the maintenance cost. (Can you imagine paying $1,000 to replace a $15.00 rubber belt? Start saving now.) I just don't see the financial benefit of the diesel, at this time.
    My 2022 5.3 Tahoe Premier with DFM averages 26 mpg on the highway. I am truly impressed with this mileage, without the COSTLY maintenance the diesel WILL have. On a side note, GM just announced that the 2023 3.0 diesel has a few upgrades that hopefully fixes these costly maintenance problems.

    • @uptownautogarage6833
      @uptownautogarage6833  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      There are added expenses with a diesel yes. The big factor for us not only the mileage but towing. Bought the wife a 22 Suburban with the 5.3 and it was a dog. It replaced our 19 Yukon with the 5.3 and did worse than the Yukon. It would constantly downshift and search for gears no matter how you drove it and it was getting 6MPG hooked to the trailer. Got rid of that and got the Tahoe. Best thing we could have done. Pulls trailer like nothing Is back there. Averages 13-14. It’s a great power plant but it’s just not for everyone.

    • @specialestness
      @specialestness ปีที่แล้ว +1

      My 2021 Tahoe 5.3 RST gets 18 mpg going downhill with a tailwind. I don’t know how it’s even remotely close to possible for you to get 26 mpg out of one of them.

    • @testtesting2868
      @testtesting2868 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@specialestness I do 80% highway driving at 55-58 mph with cruise control on. I live on the eastern shore of Maryland and it is FLAT. I anticipate and coast to red lights and they often turn green before I actually stop. It takes a LOT of fuel to get your truck up to 30 mph. Coasting is your friend! Remember, every-time you touch your brake you are wasting the fuel that it took to get you to that speed. My best tank was 29 mpg, which I still have saved on my mpg screen! It takes patience and practice. If you have even the slightest heavy foot, you will never get there. I run 38 psi in my tires (cold) and coast up hills. It's a game for me! Good luck!

    • @specialestness
      @specialestness ปีที่แล้ว

      @@testtesting2868 I live in North Central Montana and we’re not flat and have much faster speed limits. We also get copious amounts of wind coming off the Rockies. The lifetime average at 45,000 miles is currently 15.7 mpg and the best 50 mile mpg is 27.3 from a recent road trip in Iowa where highway speed limits are 55mph. I find it shocking how much worse the fuel economy is compared to the previous bodystyle. Even just watching the instant mpg while putting around town it’s much worse than our previous 2017.

    • @testtesting2868
      @testtesting2868 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@specialestness Understood. There is a lot of wind resistance when driving these large boxes at faster speeds!
      When I drive our 2022 5.3 Tahoe to Florida, I-95 from Maryland at 70 -75 mph, I see 21-23 mpg. I-95 is fairly flat ground and I run with the cruise on. When I head West into the Appalachian Mountains into West Virginia at 70 mph, I see 19-21 mpg. Around town, I see 15-17 mpg. I tell my wife the Tahoe truly is a highway cruising vehicle and not a town vehicle, when it comes to efficiency.
      I previously had a 2015 Expedition Max with a HUGE fuel tank. I do miss that fuel tank! The Expedition had a 3.5 twin turbo V6. It was quicker than the Tahoe and about the same efficiency on the highway. Around town, the Expedition was more efficient by 2 mpg or so. We sold the Expedition as the aluminum hood and rear hatch had "white rust" that couldn't be stopped. Beautiful vehicle but the constant cancer rust was driving me nuts. The only way to properly stop the rust was to replace the hood and hatch at a cost of $7,000.00. At that point, I traded the vehicle in on the Tahoe!
      We try to stick with our 4 cylinder, 5-speed manual transmission little wagon, when scooting around town. In this, we see 30 mpg! As many as 38 mpg, at 55 mph with the cruise on, on the flat Eastern Shore of Maryland.
