@@curtdragon Personally I would never spend $77k on an M2. It will depreciate like a stone. The GTS 4.0 will hold its value and only depreciate with mileage or poor maintenance/condition. They really are different cars too. One is front engine sedan. Modern BMWs are German muscle cars. Have more in common with Mustang, Camaro, Challenger. The other thing is new GTS 4.0 are very difficult to come by. I had an allocation but bought a 981 CS in perfect spec before my allocation came up. Saved me $70k. There are tons or new M2. I would probably go for the previous generation anyway. My two cents. Cayman is a nimble sports car that should hold it’s value. The M2 is modern muscle car with back seats. At nearly 4000lbs, it’s going to drive radically different. Best thing to do is drive both.

@@curtdragon I own two Porsches. Cayman and Macan. MK7 GTI is my “daily” or “San Francisco” car. At least in my area, there’s an abundance of Porsche to test drive. No not new ones, but if you’re patient you’ll find plenty of cars to test drive. Regarding older Cayman’s, I have only driven a couple 987.1, I would say they are an incredible value at $25-$35k. You don’t need to work about bore scoring on the 2.7L. If you aren’t a manual driver, you might hate the transmission. A 2.7L with PDK 981 isn’t a bad choice either, but a big step up in price in the $40-$50k range. The 3.4L in good condition with lower miles are in the $50-$60k range. The GTS 4.0 drives very similar to my 981 CS. I think CPO Porsche are some of the best value cars you can purchase. You get a two year unlimited mileage warranty and an excellent condition car. I haven’t been impressed with 991.1 and 991.2 911. The manual isn’t as good and the car feels bigger less agile than the Cayman. Also don’t think they looks nearly as good as the Cayman.
Good review, BUT totally disagree. I have 23 M2, everytime I try my buddy's 21 caymen, it's effortless perfection. But yes, the M2 is the better hooligan, the power slides are amazing but when can you realistically do them without ending up on tic tic. Buyers remorse 😢.
You can’t drive either car near the limits and with the gearing the manual’s aren’t even a benefit. By the time you’re winding out 2nd gear, you’re above any posted limit. If you haven’t taken your M2 on the track, try it. You may be surprised. I think they are both great cars and it’s a stretch to compare them. Pricing is totally different, seating is totally different. They are both fun and fast, that’s where the similarity ends.
I totally disagree, owned an M2C for a couple of years and then moved to a 718. The M2 felt childish and unrefined in comparison. Will never go back to BMW, it's Spyder RS for me, next
As an owner of a 981 Cayman S, the design is old, but it's timeless. I still get compliments bout it today from people I drive by. Some even asking what year it's from because the 981 in particular is just rare. They only made them from 2014 through 2016.
Porsche make awesome cars and I love that they cater to the enthusiasts and still offer a manual on a lot of their cars but the price is just getting ridiculous at this point. Cayman's cost what the 911 is supposed to cost.
I am biased owning a 981 base, but I can see how the perfect rotation of the cayman can feel too perfect or the need to push much harder to get the rear moving. I also have a 16 BRZ which can be more playful at slower speeds, so I get why someone might like M2 more.
I have both cars except my Porsche is a 2020 718 Spyder. If I were ordering one today I'd go for the GTS ragtop as my 718 top is not the best. Cheerio mate.
Sometimes you hear that a car looks better in person than in its pictures. After seeing a few M2s in the wild, I can honestly say that's not the case with this car. At least you don't have to look at the M2 when you're driving it.

The nurburgring time for a GT4 is 2 seconds faster than an M2. I suspect at least around that track the M2 is faster than a GTS by a hair since the GT4 is the track focused more powerful version of a GTS. Worst case; they're virtually identical, and you'd never notice on a street.
It’s simple if you are over 45 buy a Porsche it fits your age. If you are young and wild and virile then a get a BMW M2 or 3 or 4. Otherwise get a Prius.

Actually M2 is faster then Cayman GTS on the track. Check comparison between these two on Acelerados Chanel where Rubens Barrichello took them on a track and M2 was faster.

Huge price difference. GTS 4.0 is basically 2x the price. Closest comparison to the GTS 4.0 would be the Emira. Closest to M2 would be Supra.

Actually M2 is faster then Cayman GTS on the track. Check comparison between these two on Acelerados Chanel where Rubens Barrichello took them on a track and M2 was faster.
