PLEASE READ DESCRIPTION for clarification on the loyalty crowns. I made a slight error in the video.

Pillers of the Earth, the book, is one of the greatest books I have ever read. There is a mini series of the book, which is quite good. World Without End is also a fabulous book and unsurprisingly, the plauge is a major plot point in the book, as is building the cathedral tower.

Thanks for the comment! That's awesome! I have always wanted to read the books, and I didn't even realize there was a mini-series. I will definitely look into that too. Cheers!

What an interesting game! For a reason or another I've always overlooked it, but your video raise my interest. BGG community seems to advise against playing with just 2 (which is my standard setting), but I've read that in your opinion the game is enjoyable alike. Great video as usual!

Thank you! This game is also in my Top 50 games of all time! While I prefer it at 4p, my wife and I play this at 2p quite often. It plays _much_ better at 2p than The Pillars of the Earth. The mechanism of "play 1/discard 1" is the coolest part of the game, and that shines no matter what player count you have. The only reason I like it better at 4p is because of the race to heal the sick, the limited building spaces, and the diamond cards (weighing who gets which benefit). But no matter what player count, this game is one of my all-time favorites. Highly recommend!

Today I had the occasion to play the game with my wife and both of us had a blast! What a good game! Now I'm curious about "A column of fire". Thanks again for having higlighted this game!

@@francescomeucci5278 I’m so glad you enjoyed it! It gets even better the more you play it. A Column of Fire is fun too, probably my least favorite of the 3 but definitely a fun game. It’s completely different.

This one also looks like a very good game. Not complicated, not so simple, enough to plan and think about. Thanks for the vid!

Spoiler Alert for my upcoming Episode 50: This game is in my top 50 :) I absolutely love it at 4p! The random events are really cool because you never know which ones are in a given game. It makes for a very different experience each time. I also love how tight the money, points, resources are. It's not a "point salad" game at all. Highly recommend if you can find a copy. Keep your eyes open! Thanks for watching!

I really enjoyed the pacing and the way you showcased this game. I own Pillars and am about to buy this one, so you just made this desition a lot easier. Your style gives me a vibe of the great Drakkenstrike reviews. Keep up the good work and greetings from Argentina!

Hello and thank you for the kind words! :) I hope you enjoy the game as much as we do. This one gets played quite often here in our house. I love those older TH-cam channels, and that is definitely the vibe I am going for here. Thank you for the comparison to Drakkenstrike. I appreciate that! Also, please read the video description for a small rules error I made in the video. When you spend loyalty crowns, you only avoid PENALTIES, but you STILL lose victory points for each of the duties you cannot pay. I failed to show that accurately in the video. Enjoy the game!! It's a good one!

Thank you for the kind words! I had not seen a really detailed review of this one, so I tried to provide that. Glad you enjoyed and I hope you like the game as much as I do! I'd say if you like Pillars, you'll like this one. One day I'd like to do a video comparing all 3, because I enjoy them all for different reasons!

Thanks for reviewing this game. I'm a little more familiar with Pillars of Earth, but haven't played either. I think World without End comes across as a little tighter and more strategic. Would agree? And, in your opinion, which do you prefer or find that you are getting to the table more often? And, lastly, which do you think plays better at lower player counts? Thanks again!!

    • @undiscovered_games
      @undiscovered_games  ปีที่แล้ว +3

Happy to answer that as best as I can! First, I feel like Pillars and World Without End each have their own unique identity. I like both games for different reasons. Personally, I like Pillars slightly more because I now have the expansion, and because I play most games at 4p. My wife prefers World Without End because she doesn't like the auction mechanism for turn order in Pillars. Regarding lower player counts, WWE is better than Pillars at lower player counts. We play WWE at 2p a lot, and it works better than Pillars. WWE feels a bit more tense (in a good way) because of those diamond cards, and because of the "play 1 discard 1" mechanism (which gets really tight later in the game). Finally, have you ever looked into Cuba? If you watch my video on CUBA (episode 20, toward the end), you might want to consider that game too. Cuba feels like a mix of Pillars of the Earth and World Without End, and it's by the same design team. Cuba is heavier, tighter, and less random. It's more "brain burning" and some consider it more of a "dry" euro. Cuba is definitely more of a "gamer's game," and WWE/Pillars are a bit more random and exciting/fun (less brain-burning). Cuba plays well at lower player counts too. Honestly, all 3 are excellent games! You can't go wrong with any. But if you are playing at lower player counts, I would look at WWE or Cuba. I hope that helps a little :)

@@undiscovered_games Thank you for the great info!! If I can get ahold of a copy I think I will go for WWE. Those two mechanisms, the diamond cards and the play one/discard one from your hand are what really drew me in. Not to mention that gorgeous game board and building project pieces that get spotted in! I also appreciate the entry levelness of the game. Being the friend that has the large game collection, I'm the one typically introducing and teaching to my friends and family. They typically aren't wanting to get into anything too heavy. These kinds of games are perfect for that next level up teach. I think Caylus might be my heaviest game currently....and we're working our way to it!😄
I will definitely check into Cuba though, I truly appreciate the recommendation and especially the effort you put forth.

That's awesome! Based on that information, I think WWE is definitely the right choice for you! We play it with my in-laws, who are not huge gamers, but they really like WWE. Make sure you read the description for the slight mistake I made in the video. At the end of the round, you can spend loyalty crowns to avoid PENALTIES, but you STILL lose the victory points if you can't pay your duties! It is not very well-worded in the rulebook. Thank you for the kind words. P.S. You have great taste in games. Caylus is in my top ten of all time. Cheers! :)

Thanks for the comment! This is certainly nothing revolutionary, but it sees our table quite a bit for whatever reason. It's smooth and tense. Scores are always tight. It's just a solid euro, one that I'm always in the mood to play if someone suggests it. Thanks for watching; I hope you get to try it sometime!!

Would love to hear your thoughts on the 2 player variant summary in the BGG files section. I tried link to it but I guess TH-cam police deleted it.

Interesting! I wasn't even aware of the 2p variant! I can do some digging and find it on BGG. I will definitely try it out next time I play this at 2p. I usually play most of my games at 4p, but I will make a little note and put it inside the box... so next time I open it up I'll remember! Thanks for the tip!

Do you prefer this one over Pillars of the Earth?

    • @undiscovered_games

In short, this is probably my favorite of the 3. However, I was worried someone would ask me this haha… because I honestly cannot say. It sort of depends on my mood. At 4 players, I like all 3 games for different reasons. However, I tend to say World Without End is my favorite because it scales better than the others at 2 and 3 players. World Without End still shines at 4 players, but we play with 2 all the time and love it. Therefore, World Without End gets played the most. But Pillars is such a classic worker placement game. And Column of Fire adds some dice and area control, and is also a great game (but not great at 2 players). One day I might do a comparison video of all 3. Hope that helps! 😎
