And got sued and eventually had to settle. Part of the problem was the studio portrayed her as doing everything alone and whilst that gave her notoriety it was also her undoing especially once it came out she had help and didn't want to pay the musicians who helped her.
As talented as Lauryn is I also feel she didn't feel she was able to make an album as good as that first one and blaming the industry is a half truth
If she really wanted to create music she could make an album and go indie

Lauren Hill deserves more respect
She is everything. In the Fugees she was a force and when she dropped the Miseducation… wow! That album is still a gem. I’ll never forget when it dropped, right before my freshman year at UCLA and this defined a whole era. When you create something so perfect… is there anything else? I’ve seen her perform live twice and I would always see her. She is a whole vibe. Her lyrics brought back the soul of Bob and that’s not easy to do. The truth is the truth, in this world we live in especially the entertainment industry it’s not a popular brand to sell.

Lauryn is the ONLY true artist in our modern day. Yes, she walked away from fame & fortune once she was aware of the literal demonic forces that run the entire entertainment industry. She chose Jesus Christ over the enemy, and took all of the media's hate and public bashing because of it and I respect her for that. Her Unplugged album was raw and heartfelt and was an incredible piece of work, but the media said it was terrible, unpolished and the album tanked.
I have come to realize that the music industry in general works like a mafia. You sacrifice to get in, and you sacrifice to get out. Her sacrifice was public hate, prison, and a lawsuit that almost left her bankrupt. I applaud this beautiful and talented artist moreso than any other in the industry. The Lord protects those who believe in Him. ❤
Thank you for giving Lauryn Hill her flowers and showing appreciation. She really deserves the praise. She expresses a lot of self-love. You can tell that she embraces who she is. I really love that about her. It's not just music and the voice, it's her persona that intrigues me. Lauryn is truly a gem!

I will never forget how much Lauryn’s MTV Unplugged 2001 performance blew my mind. It touched my soul. Every song, every lyric, her guitar playing and her stunningly beautiful voice. She’s a REAL ARTIST right up there next to Bob Marley. Don’t even get me started on her epic career with the Fugees. She’s just phenomenal.

I thank God for the Neo Soul movement and getting to see women like Lauryn, Zhane, Jill Scott etc and other folks like Aaliyah, TLC, Janet. Such natural beauties with their own style. I never felt pressured to dress a certain way or wear a ton of makeup if any. Also actress in the 90s era like Phylicia Rashad, Angela Bassett etc
I had gotten tickets to see Lauryn a few years back and sadly, it was for a show that never happened. 💔😭 She is still one of my top artists and a queen of her craft regardless. Great video! ❤✨
Ms. Lauryn was a powerful force in influencing my decision to go Natural back in 1999. I even had people tell me that I looked like her, which was a huge compliment. Her style still influences my style choices today, over 20 years later! Lauryn Hill is an icon and I will be a forever fan of her work and her influence. It would be an honor to meet her one day.

My mom played her when I was younger but I “rediscovered” her on my own when I was 16 trying to find myself. “The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill” means so much to me. My senior quote for our yearbook was of course a line from one of her songs. “Deep in my heart, the answer, it was in me. And I made up my mind, to define my own destiny.” 🫶🏽

Yes, she went through things through fame but I feel like her children deserved grace. I do love her very much for her legacy but I get tired of that aspect of parenting in our community.
