The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill was such an amazing body of work that any project she would of put out after, that didn’t have that same formula would of been less enjoyable from the fans. Sometimes I sit back and think maybe it’s a good thing she only gave us the two Fugees albums and her album to keep her divine talent and mystique that her fans love her for, cause sometimes a dope artist can oversaturate their fans by putting out music just to keep up with the rest of the industry. To this day, there’s no female rapper that has been able to have the affect that she had when it comes to PURE ARTISTRY, and that’s why her name will forever be respected in music.

Remy probably heard the same rumor we heard and took it like a lot of ppl did as literal. I believe Guru. He was there in the era with Lauryn. Just bcuz Robert Glasper made this vague statement and others ran with it, doesnt mean it's all fact. If Pras AND Guru said Lauryn wrote her own lyrics (which by now has been brought into question), I believe them. I'm sure Lauryn didn't engineer and arrange the album by herself, but she could have helped with the sound too. I do think the others should have gotten credit (whatever was due to them), but ppl really should stop tryna destroy her legacy and just enjoy. It sounds like a label decision anyway.

From the Wikipedia page of the album: "Though The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill was largely a collaborative work between Hill and a group of musicians known as New Ark (Vada Nobles, Rasheem Pugh, Tejumold Newton, and Johari Newton), there was "label pressure to do the Prince thing," wherein all tracks would be credited as "written and produced by" the artist with little outside help. While recording the album, Hill was against the idea of creating documentation defining each musician's role."
It seems like Sony was in Lauryn's ear to keep all the credit to herSelf. Perhaps to further separate herSelf from The Fugees to be better marketed as a solo artist or maybe she just wanted to hog all the shine considering that she was against noting who did what on every song. It's pretty obvious that Lauryn Hill doesn't make beats. She didn't even know how to play guitar back then. She's credited for producing "All That I Can Say" for Mary J. Blige & "A Rose Is Still A Rose" for Aretha Franklin. The songwriting is obviously her but y'all think she made the music on those tracks? Hell na. Props to New Ark for filing that lawsuit and getting the production credit they've always deserved.
As for Remy spreading hearsay, she's buggin' & I wish Young Guru would've said that. Lauryn came up during the early to mid-90's when lyricism was respected & mic skills were what the audience checked for. There's rumors of her writing some verses for Clef & Pras on "The Score" and it's kinda obvious that she did. Remy came up during the mixtape era of the early to mid-2000's when everybody was a Big L wannabe on the low due to the younger siblings of that previous era's audience placing punchlines over lyricism & mic skills. Remy's not an emcee. Lauryn is. Remy has absolutely no songs or featured verses that come close to what Lauryn did on "Final Hour" (one of the most slept on rap songs ever) & she needs to learn her place considering that she rides with Fat Joe, who has one of the most questionable pens in the history of the game. There's been talks of him never writing a single rhyme in his entire career & having a different ghostwriter for each of his albums.

Slow down, Remy is an emcee in every definition of the word as a writer, composer and performer. Her & Lauryn are different emcees. Ok let’s get this straight about Lauryn and her album. However, I get that some people will still believe what they want regardless if it’s true or not, just is what it is. It will be quite long.
1.) Lauryn never stated it was a solo job, that’s why there are credits 😂. However she was everything mentioned on that album. There were two groups. One group = production, the 2nd group = work for hire musicians (NewArk) trying to make their way into being producers. The latter group is the group she had to develop.
2.) Robert Glasper and others like him (like the dude sitting next to Guru) will suggest very authoritatively that Lauryn basically did nothing on her own album. Robert specifically stated she didn’t write her own music (that means lyrics, melody, rhythm/beat etc), all of that is untrue. You hire musicians to follow your direction as the artist, that is what they did, the issue is that Lauryn did not have any boundaries that established their roles and that created an imbalance of power and allowed more credit and status to flow to people who were actually “work for hire” musicians that she actually helped to develop. Robert Glasper was not there, Remy was not there and neither was anyone else in this video yapping. Lauryn Hill was. Lauryn’s creative process is not rigid, but she has an unorthodox way of translating what she wants to musicians. She will verbally tell you/describe to you the composition she hears in her head and how she wants it structured. THAT IS PRODUCTION, and THAT IS ARRANGEMENT.
So yes she hires people who can create the sounds she is hearing, not uncommon if you as an artist compose music this way and in addition to adding her lyrics, melody and whatever else to the pot. This would be considered production because it’s coming from her. Executive Producer and Producer are two interrelated positions. However, someone on a team can create an entire track on their own and the artist also functioning as the producer will get production credit because they determine the direction of the track, a lot involved, but the person who created the track would be a co-producer.
3.) she cultivated and assembled the NewArk team. They were included in the creative process, within a limited capacity, but the overall direction and say so, was her, meaning it came from her. Additionally, they are all included in the original writeup in credits, which she was nice enough to do, as they weren’t producers but cosplaying😂, that’s why you don’t hear from them. None of these guys have had any real success outside of MISED, with the exception of maybe that one hit by Vada Nobles.
4.) Lauryn was everything on that album, being greedy is never a good look. Some of the credits between Che and Vada were misapplied which she admitted.
5.) The members of NewArk will tell you they were “plug and play.”
