Genting SkyWorlds Review | Theme Park in Genting Highlands, Malaysia

  • Nestled within the lush, forested mountains of Malaysia, a location seemingly at odds with the concept of a world-class theme park lies Genting SkyWorlds. Just an hour's drive from the bustling cityscape of Kuala Lumpur, this park emerges as a modern marvel in themed entertainment, impressing with its ambitious design and attractions. Yet, despite its grandeur, it's not without some noticeable flaws.

I forgot that this park was even opening, much less actually opened. I remember being curious as to what it was when marketed as a Fox park, but it does truly look fantastic, at least visually. I see your point about lacking thrill rides, but it otherwise seems like a pretty well balanced experience.
I clicked on this because I'm always interested in learning about something new, but now knowing that it's essentially a licensed, unofficial Disney park, that makes it all the more interesting too.

This could be a very long comments.
Thanks for coming to malaysia, and fascinate to discover more on this underrated theme park. As a local malaysian here, i guess genting skyworlds is one and only the best, impressive, heavily immersive theme park other than legoland malaysia, here. We used to have that immersive high theme animation park studios in perak, sadly it shut down after 2 years operating, IPs dreamworks etc have to be remove. To be honest, lots of locals here dont appreciate this park. Why? Because demolished of the old outdoor theme park. Many locals here was very have that kind nostalgic feelings of those old rusty ride etc. The only downside of this park was no big thrill rides operating right now (big thrill coasters) malaysian love coasters. Dark rides is less popular/ nobody even care, here in malaysia. That's why mostly people go to other park like sunway lagooon. I am super disappointed on how dynamic attractions ( very well known company for disney rides & universal ) cant even deliver the sfx coaster and dual powered coaster ( both major big outdoor coaster). Sure is not genting faults but its dynamic problems. I wish they will quickly fix this issue asap. Skyworlds team did a very good job on the all rides details and easter eggs ; on some of the rides and IPs with local twist. PS/ : manny character in ice age show is not an animatronic but a puppet!!!!

As a Malaysian Theme Park Enthusiast, thank you for visiting our country!
In terms of affordability of a one day ticket for Malaysians, it's not really cheap (RM150 per ticket), but reasonable for a world class theme park. Probably a currency difference lol (Although I do admit is cheaper than a RM200 ticket in Legoland Malaysia)
Other than the major holidays, not many people in Malaysia tend to go on big vacations on a normal weekend. So you will typically find less people wandering around the park at this time.
Also, Genting is the only place in Malaysia where they could legally operate a casino, so it attracted a much more older audience, most even staying the night. That could be a factor on why the entire hotel is almost booked but hardly anyone visited the park.
Although I do love Genting Skyworlds, I still have huge nostalgia for the old park. It's my childhood~

Kinda wish Disney would take advantage of their Fox IPs and copy the rides from Genting and improving on them for their own parks. They can’t just rely on Avatar, you know.

      They should, but they won’t.
Disney was the one to kill Blue Sky for no f(&*king reason.
They should have either sold them if they felt they had too many animation studios, or specialized them like making Blue Sky the Disney Plus studio (instead of devaluing Pixar). But no. They shut down the studio.

To create land for the IPs for Disney parks called Disney’s 20th-century land for the Hollywood Studios replacement for the animation courtyard and Disney adventure world to where Galaxy's Edge was once planned in the original concept before it was canceled and reworked with a replica of Disneyland’s version of Runaway Railway and Tokyo Disney’s newest theme park Tokyo Disney Sky for the resort and China parks and California Adventure as 20th-century land on Disney avenue

The theme-ing and ride options are quite extensive; many looked very interesting in their set-up.. far beyond what I've personally seen in the states and the UK. Malaysian food was already a reason to go, but I now have an other park to add to my list of Asian theme parks!

Thanks for the review. As a malaysian, I havent been and havent thought to visit.
I am more aware of all the trouble with Fox and Disney than anything else. So always wondered if it would just be a 'half-complete' park.
(I remember the old park that this replaced fondly though. While a bit dated for the modern era, it was a pretty big part of the childhoods of many malaysians of my generation).

it is not fair to compare prices to Disneyland USA. even in american standards disney is considered to be quite expensive. We need to calculate how much average Malaysian costs are such as foods outside of the park...On the other hand I enjoyed the review and would definitely visit IF the coasters open. hopefully they can finish construction and start testing soon

I have just come across this video and feel like I should post about our day there which to be honest was the worst day we had ever had at a theme park.
Unfortunately we had to visit on a public holiday (xmas day) but after countless hours of research i felt in a good place. The fact that in the first 40 minutes we had already done both Ice Age attractions I was pretty happy with. After that it all went very wrong. We were in the park from 10 till 5 and managed 3 rides, as I mentioned two of which were in the first 40 minutes. For some reason the Epic ride, Night at the museum and the drop tower were all closed which on a busy day was pretty awful, but Independence Day didn't open till mid afternoon. We queued 30 minutes for Samba gliders for it to break down, we actually queued 3 times for Samba Gliders during the day and it broke down 3 times. We also had the park wide fire alarm and it closed down every indoor attraction for 2 hours in the afternoon, every outdoor attraction had a crazy queue and it was raining. We hung around and eventually got on Independence day after the rides had reopened and then walked over to Planet of the Apes but it had a two hour queue and quite frankly we had had enough as it was 4.45 and the park closed in 15 minutes.
The park seemed to have almost more staff than guests, they were walking round during the fire alarm hours with survey ipads asking people for their thoughts, I may have been a bit hard on them but the fact that it was 3.30 in the afternoon and I had been wondering around since 10.40 in the morning no able to do anything had wound me up. I also kept having to pay for lockers and then not be able to ride which was frustrating. None of the guests looked miserable though which made me wonder if this was normal or something. I think if you want to do this park you have to try and make sure its midweek and not on a public holiday, focus on getting the rides you want as early as possible. Hope this helps some people.

[correction. wrong name of hotel was used for comparision: First World Hotel (7351 rooms) is the largest] sadly the hotel is no where near the largest in the world. Genting Skyworlds Hotel has 456 rooms. Harras Cherokee Casino Resort has 1,800. Resorts World Las Vegas has 3,506. the Palms Casino Resort has 766 which all of them beat the size of that hotel.
