- In this video we take a look at Drakes BadAss 1987 Toyota 4Runner with a 1JZ Swap!!! We had a chance to take it out to play for a bit unfortunately the footage did not turn out to well so I apologize for the off-road footage being poor.

Deffinatly this dude with the American flag of Sharon who owns that Runner is a perfect example of what we need in the community he has a gorgeous truck that he is proud of but he is not a snob about it he likes to jump it and is enthusiastic about it he seems like a wicked cool dude would love to meet him out at the dunes and go wheeling in my third gen with him

I just wanted you to know, this is the truck that inspired me to buy and build my 4runner, I hope you enjoy your truck for many years.
How has the rear axle held up? I’m swapping an Ls into my 84 4runner. I have chromoly, locked axles front and back and have been considering the Ford 9” swap but don’t know if I need too. It’ll be driven in the dunes majority of its life

Nice build. I had an 84 Toyota truck. I didn't have that much power in it. It was lifted locked with 4.88 gears. I shredded several pinion gears.
I almost bought an older 4runner off a friend. I'm wishing I had after watching this.

my grandad had one of these from the mid 80s - even with its piddly 4 cylinder engine, it went absolutely anywhere without issues. One day i'll throw something fun under the hood and restore it to glory
I have had 5 first gens... all ‘87... one had the softopper... get the bully center console... now I have a Tacoma ... but I miss and will return to the first gen runner... beautiful ride sir!!!

Nice truck, I would recommend an intake thats isolated from the engine bay, it will make a huge difference and the engine will have more pep especially low end torque

So it’s a mkiii Supra. I was expecting a mkiv but still sick none the less
Your gonna love it my truck is almost the same set up. I’ve had my sas 86 4 years now pickup 1jz vvti 35” 5.29s & grizzly in the rear and a Toyota elocker up front. Tg 5” front leafs and Chevy rears front and rear tube bumpers and sliders 🤙🏾🤙🏾

@@4runrJay 5VZ variant of the R150F. If your 3rd gen came with a 5-speed and the 3.4 V6 then you have the same transmissionI used.
Drake Moore ahhhh ok no unfortunately it’s auto, I couldn’t find a 5speed in my price range in good condition
DoeBoy 407 the auto in the 3rd gen is the same behind 1uz ls400s and TT auto supras. AW 3040 is a brick house of a trans but very power hungry but that could be good for spool

I have an 86 turbo model. It has a regular 22r motor swap and a manual transmission from a 95 truck I bought from a Japanese import place. Sun roof, Power windows, and ac that sucks but I love the thing. I tow my 15' boat and it does just fine. I need one of those tops.

Badass man! I’ll say ive read the uniball system on the total chaos is expensive to replace and takes constant upkeep so the blazeland is the way to go!

Sir William Goes yeah that is for sure! I’ve debated doing total chaos but I haven’t been able to pull the trigger on either as it’s hard to justify if you still want to daily it... maybe one day I’ll decide to go blazeland but I got some more upgrades to do first

I have a 86 sr5 i need to get back on the road. Ive been places in that thing in 2wd most couldnt do in 4wd.

I was intrigued by the Supra turbo but was lost with the IFS and no recovery/sliders. I wheel in the West so must be completely different from wheeling in the East. Looking for an engine swap option for my fist gen pickup, have a 22R and with added armor it’s slow AF but it still runs. Trucks are most definitely personal preference, love the outside of this truck.
Yeah he's still building has to make skids and recovery. Wheeling def different but you still definitely need protection
I touched on most of the stuff you brought up in the video. I'm not done building the truck and it will be getting sliders, roll cage, rear tire carrier, hitch mountable winch, etc. Not planning on a solid axle swap unless I suddenly decide to make it a dedicated offroader. Who knows, I might change my mind!
He does not want a solid axle because he jumps it and drives fast lol
And plus the jz makes it’s power in the high end so the ifs and jz make sense together
Just keep the body clean it doesn’t need to be a off-roader

Only thing I didn't like about it was the difficulty with thinner steel. I had to be VERY careful when doing the body work.

Got the 85 pick up with the 22 ret always had problems with the motor gonna swap it thought about a supra swap but I guess a ls swap is cheaper .
Depends on what you want. The swap cost about 6k total.

Heavy mud wheeling would definitely present issues with the intercooler and, to a larger degree, radiator placement. Luckily I don't hit mud often.

A lot of dune buggies use them of course I had to re spline the one end to Toyota to make it fit, but was worth it ! Maybe West Coast Off-road might have leftovers they are Indestructible (neal sullivan so cal)
I’m pretty sure if you ask they can do to the older models dimensions they do a lot of custom stuff.

Worth the wait though I’m sure if volunteer for a test fit you’ll be the first in line !! Their t cases and gears work wonders !! Had one of the first ones in my 88 v6 and marlin took the time to make sure it worked perfect

I'm sorry but the 1jzgte VVT-I was NEVER IN THE SUPRA. the only supra to ever have a 1jz in it was a non vvti twin turbo in the mkiii

Sir William...Love your channel and content. I just bought 5th gen 4runner and was looking into overlanding with my kids. I dont want them to be stuck staring a screens the rest of their lives. Anyways being a single dad, and working ALOT, can you recommend a good source for trails (with difficulty ratings) and other info such as camping on or near the trails. I don't have a a lot of time for research and my time with them is limited, so I dont want to waste that time on "exploratory" trips that end up on a "double black diamond". I know their are overlanding clubs and groups, but I want it to be just my kids and I. I dont mind being around other people, I just dont want to hit the trial with 10 other rigs (i want to the experience to about them and not me meeting up with the guys to drink a bunch of beer, Which would be fun too!!) That being said, the 4runner is a TRD mostly stock with sliders and all the standard recovery essentials. Specifically looking for trails in east TN and Smokey mountains region. Any suggestions would be helpful.
Best advice I have is to download a mapping app like Gaia and download an area of national forests and explore the roads there. For the most part all forest service roads are pretty tame and if not then you could always turn around.

How has the axle held up? I’m putting an LS into my 84 4runner. I have chromoly front and rear axles already. But also have a Ford 9” I’m thinking of building to put in. Only running 35’s and 33’s in the sand
If I were you I would go ahead and build the 9" and swap that in. My ring and pinion let go last year. I ended up swapping a tundra axle under it.
Tell him to mount the intercooler in the hood like a rally truck. Cut the hood 💪💯
