That was a pretty insane group of college players. Webber, Hill, Hurley, Penny, Mashburn, Houston, Montross. Most of those guys had solid NBA careers. Some had HOF careers or would have if not for injury.
You should read what Jordan did with other college players to the best in the league back in 1984. The college squad beat the NBA top elites 8 games straight.
Jack McCallum, who wrote the Dream Team book, said in the book that he has copies of all of the scrimmages and behind-the-scenes footage. So at least a few people have it.
Great episode, it shows how good some coaches can be with understanding what it would take to bring these players together ahead of international competition! Basketball is a team sport, if you can't play as a team, you can't win no matter how good everyone are by themselves solo.
Grant Hill said he has the tape and is going to release it someday. He did say that coach did let Jordan play the whole game first time they played. And second time they played Grant said his team could not cross the half court.
@DA BOUL BLACKLUNGZ I see, thanks for answer. Now I know. Lol I really want to know what the score was between the college players vs dream team on their second game.
2 things: 1. Coaches are very important no matter what team it is. 2. Even without all the outside threats it was still super easy to get to the basket if you were quick enough, would love to see players like Bron and WB play in that era.
I remember watching this years ago. Daly knew how to toughen up the players and put a realty check on them. You can see how the dream team stated the game playing like they were playing the all star game. Daly probably started mj and then took him out as soon as the dt went down by a couple buckets, either that or didn't play him at all. Bird and magic at that time were old and no where near what they were in the 80s also. Im guessing magic was out there trying to guard hurley, which he can't do even when playing seriously. If daly wanted to win he would stick stockton on him or pippen. That's just one of the lineup tweaking he was doing to make it easier for the college kids to score. Everybody knows if you throw mj in while losing, things change automatically since his competitive nature would wake all those hofers up instantly.
Thank you! I've been trying to tell people MJ started off just Chuck took him out! Just because they heard them say ....they noticed Michael wasn't playing towards the end ...doesn't mean he didn't play it all!
With Jordan's contagious competitive nature, as soon as this guys made a play that somehow activate that, it's over. Daly is the master showman. MJ is the GOAT.
MJ was younger than Bird. Jordan was born in 63. Bird was born in 56 Jordan didn't win until Bird got out of his way. . . Bird and the Celtics had to compete against some very tough, physical teams and great players. The 6ers, the Hawks, Detroit, and LA. Jordan pretty much had the stage to himself. During the entire 80s either the Celtics or the Lakers, or both, were in the finals. Jordan beat the Lakers with all the LA stars hurt. Then he played nobody after that. The fact that the Bulls made 6 finals and won all of them tells you there was no real competition. Bird and the Celtics had to swap championship wins and losses with Magic and his Lakers. Anyway, it's all just one's opinion. They were all very good and made a pretty damn good living playing a game, while the rest of us had to work for a living. . . : ) Fun Fact: Larry Bird is the Only person in NBA History to be named Rookie of the Year, Most Valuable Player, NBA Finals MVP, All Star MVP, Coach of the Year, and Executive of the Year.
Chuck Daly knew what the hell he was doing. He knew about all these egos, he had it all planned out and set them up to fail so they can taste failure....by some college kids!! LOL great one!
Daly made sure they would loose by constantly rotating , leaving MJ out and so much more just to make sure , they would listen to him because a lot of people seem to forget , those guys have big egos and won’t take advice from anyone ! That scrimmage changed everything … they knew if we don’t go out and play we maybe can loose ! I watched every game and until today I can say ! Best team in sports ever !
I think Krzyzewski's claim that they threw the game is a bit silly. Making proper in-game adjustments and allocating minutes has a fairly minor effect. I don't doubt the coach was happy they lost, but you can't secretly throw a game with a team that stacked. And the college team had a bunch of awesome players (Grant Hill, Chris Webber, Penny Hardaway, Alan Houston) and were ultra-committed to winning. It's not that shocking they beat them. And Bobby Hurley was excellent. They make him sound like some scrub. He was the all-time assists leader in the NCAA and had his career shortened by a car accident.
This wasn't just any random college assorted squad, this squad had Penny, Web and Grant Hill. Absolute monsters.

He told the college kids, "Play all out like your life depends on it."
Lol. That was chuck!
Great point!
Ive watches this video at least 5 times and ive never realised the drea team played in my school gym UCSD
Rip Big daddy rich, Chuck Dailey, great coach, bad boy and dream team legend!!!😊
Absolutely love this basketball story. RIP Chuck Daily very shrewd move.
Underrated coaching especially with those HOF’s on the court
@5:21 Classic Jordan
Steals the ball. "Get outta here". Dunks. Yup Mike was Mike.
Lesson learnt never underestimate your Opponent!!!☮
Very Well Said
more like lesson learned dont bench mike
Right? Even with Chuck rigging the game for the college guys, the Dream Team came back on their asses. Then Chuck calls game. What kind of bullshit was that?
They didn't underestimate their opponents.. they just couldn't blend at that time.. so, when they could blend well, the college students couldn't even score anymore... hope you watch the documentary..
That was a pretty insane group of college players. Webber, Hill, Hurley, Penny, Mashburn, Houston, Montross. Most of those guys had solid NBA careers. Some had HOF careers or would have if not for injury.
RIP CHUCKY D! I'm indebted to you for my many bad boy era childhood memories...
You should read what Jordan did with other college players to the best in the league back in 1984. The college squad beat the NBA top elites 8 games straight.

I feel like somebody recorded all of those scrimmages and it's hidden somewhere. 🤔🤔
Isaiah Watson they had to record it. They needed to review the strengths and weaknesses to prepare against opponents
The last dance shi
ask the CIA or the FBI
Would love to see it...
Jack McCallum, who wrote the Dream Team book, said in the book that he has copies of all of the scrimmages and behind-the-scenes footage. So at least a few people have it.
Daly wouldn’t play Jordan which means he knows Jordan would refuse to lose.
Facts
fking right
Jordan Would've Took Offense To This And Thus He'd Take It Personal With Daly
This was his way to make them play under him. They were all the best on the planet and they would play without coach. Jordan said something at 4:24
Lebron wouldve just walked off the court…
Great episode, it shows how good some coaches can be with understanding what it would take to bring these players together ahead of international competition! Basketball is a team sport, if you can't play as a team, you can't win no matter how good everyone are by themselves solo.
CHUCK DALY is a GENIUS
I feel this era could wreck the players today
Easily..just looking at the film they wouldn't know what to do with the skill set of the players today, let alone the speed.
Will the nba finally release the full practice game the dream team played against each other?
Leland Joseph lol
Grant Hill said he has the tape and is going to release it someday. He did say that coach did let Jordan play the whole game first time they played. And second time they played Grant said his team could not cross the half court.
@DA BOUL BLACKLUNGZ But why did he say the college team didn't even get to cross the half court?
@DA BOUL BLACKLUNGZ I see, thanks for answer. Now I know. Lol
I really want to know what the score was between the college players vs dream team on their second game.
@DA BOUL BLACKLUNGZ magic always tells this stories about this game thatt Jordan did a 360 turn around dunk on Ewing.or is it David Robinson.
That's crazy, all these years never knew this story!
You got to love Chuck. Rest in peace coach o/
2 things:
1. Coaches are very important no matter what team it is.
2. Even without all the outside threats it was still super easy to get to the basket if you were quick enough, would love to see players like Bron and WB play in that era.
Hate to say it but I think they would have been eaten alive during that era!
This is the most interesting thing on the Dream Team Ive ever watched.
It is Chuck Daly who made a difference for this dream team
Chuck Daly was like the Bill Parcells of the NBA. That was a genius maneuver! I love it 👍
Earlier players was protected with no internet
The Dream Team is the best Team! 💯👌🏽🔥
THAT DUNK FROM CHRIS WEBBER WAS ICONIC👀👀👀👀
With Jordan's contagious competitive nature, as soon as this guys made a play that somehow activate that, it's over. Daly is the master showman. MJ is the GOAT.
MJ was younger than Bird. Jordan was born in 63. Bird was born in 56
Jordan didn't win until Bird got out of his way. . .
Bird and the Celtics had to compete against some very tough, physical teams and great players.
The 6ers, the Hawks, Detroit, and LA. Jordan pretty much had the stage to himself. During the entire 80s
either the Celtics or the Lakers, or both, were in the finals.
They were all very good and made a pretty damn good living playing a game, while the rest of us had to work for a living. . . : )
Fun Fact: Larry Bird is the Only person in NBA History to be named Rookie of the Year, Most Valuable Player, NBA Finals MVP,
All Star MVP, Coach of the Year, and Executive of the Year.
Keeping it reel . . . Wrong. Jordan was a better player
Fantastic story! Chuck Daly awesome coach!
Chuck Daly knew what the hell he was doing. He knew about all these egos, he had it all planned out and set them up to fail so they can taste failure....by some college kids!! LOL great one!
this was the turning point for the dream team to play as a team.
Air freakin jordan just unstoppable
Bobby Hurley's age really shows there. He looks like a HS freshman.
This was a fun little vignette! Great part of the Dream Team story!
why chuck daily is one of the greatest coaches of all time. Genius
Fine Wine Daily by the video they did throw the game lol.
It was an ego-check on what coach did to dream team. And it was a success
Love those dream team stories. Should do something on HBO max. Those guys has huge egos but they played as team. It was amazing..
that college team was stacked!, webber, grant hill, hurley, penny hardaway, mashburn, etc...
and most plagued with injuries.
Adding Michael Jordan onto the USA Team made it a Dream Team
He played for the Olympic team when he was in college
It's a shame Bobby and Webb were on rival teams 'cause they looked unstoppable together.
Electronic91 CWebb almost chose Duke over Michigan. Imagine that.
loving the extra long commercials, thanks.
this is the rawest form of jordans talent Daly is a mastermind no way he j flexed Jordan like that imagine being there like poetry in motion
4:12 always wondered how Chuck Daly got his hair to stay that way. Whenever he's engaged in something devious, is doing that to his hair LOL.
