      @MANCHESTER UNITED i know soccer is the biggest, but there are only 234 countries and dependencies combined, and to consider dozens of those countries are purely island chains or nations with an area of less than 1000 km^2, it will be safer to say that soccer is massive in roughly 3/4ths of the world

      The young guys today, while they keep getting told just how important Magic and Larry were to the resurgence of basketball in the '80's, really have no idea. When the Lakers and the Celtics were scheduled for a game, there were days and days and days of coverage before the game was even played, and once game time came around, but cities were essentially shut down for those few hours. It was something you just had to experience to even begin to believe.

      @sbandy1278 7 ปีที่แล้ว +181

      Nah man. Shaq was more talented for sure, but Laettner schooled him head to head. Grant Hill was only a sophomore in '92 and Laettner was better at that point. Laettner definitely deserved to be the college player selected. 4 final fours, player of the year, 2 national championships. In reality it should have been Isiah Thomas, but he was a dick that Jordan didn't want to play with or Dominique Wilkins who was out with I believe knee surgery. Maybe Joe Dumars, Mark Price, or Reggie Lewis? Olajuwon for sure, but he wasn't a citizen until '93.

      Cutey Nurse IMO, he wasn’t blessed with Bird and Magic- he helped make the league about Bird and Magic. He would have done the same thing for Dr J and Kareem had he taken over years earlier. He was an unbelievable marketer and made the league about personalities. The one thing he did get lucky with was that Bird and Magic landed on the 2 most recognizable teams.

      JohnnyDemarco I respect your opinion, but I just don’t agree. The anticipation of what Larry and Magic were going to do at the NEXT level was so high. Their feud stemmed from college and then transcended over to the BIG LEAGUES and they didn’t disappoint. Those 2 Icons TRANSFORMED and SAVED the NBA. No disrespect to the commish, but he was definitely BLESSED with those 2 guys coming into the league and continuing that rivalry and both having MAJOR success. MANY YEARS OF IT. For the record, before I saw Larry Bird play as a little girl and a true sports fan, Dr J was my FAVORITE basketball player... then emerged #33.. My FAVORITE player of ALL time.

      Yeah, people who played with CL say his stats didn't reflect his effect. Passes denied, picks set, box outs to make sure a teammate gets the rip, the pass to the pass to the score, loose ball dives, loose ball 'gets', etc. There are a ton of ways to have an effect that don't show up in the stats.

    00:50 Karl Malone: "Where is he...not here...not there...THERE IT IS! Faster faster, move aside Charles!, Hi buddy! I thought I lost you!"
    "Here I am!"
    Like school buddies...seeing this always puts a smile on my face

      He did forget and when he turned to look at Larry Bird he saw Laettner and realized he forgot about him lol that’s why he made a joke about Barkley elbowing him because he was quickly just trying to think of something while making it look like he didn’t forget about him. So he nervously made a joke. He was complimentary to everyone he talked about so the joke was out of place and didn’t fit the tone of the rest of Magic’s speech. Nice recovery though. It’s a good thing Bird was to his left because if he had been to his right he would of never saw Laettner lol
