I admit I’m a little biased, having grown up throughout the 80’s and 90’s and really been into basketball. But the 1992 Dream Team really was THE story that summer at the Olympics. I’ll never forget it. It was very accurate to say that it was like pitting a sheep against a lion with all of those other teams. As this report said, the other teams’ players were many times more interested with getting autographs from the Dream Team players than playing. But it was really no contest in the games themselves. In that regard I suppose it was boring. But on the other hand, it was really entertaining, because it was like watching a slam dunk contest, or the Harlem Globetrotters with the show of dominance put on. I feel like the rest of the world has caught up a lot as basketball goes today. And while we have huge NBA stars today, I just don’t feel like the personalities and the over the top fandom are there like they were in the 80’s and 90’s. Those decades, mainly spurred on by Magic, Bird, and Jordan, among others along the way, really sent NBA coverage on TV and fandom through the roof. It was just an incredibly exciting time to be a fan.

The Dream Team is very likely a HUGE reason there are so many players from around the world in today's NBA. And THAT is a legacy no other US Olympic basketball team can/will have.
Kukoc scored 17 and played a very good game in the final. Pippen and Jordan were impressed by his response. But still US media only ever reminisce about the 4 point game. Better suits the narrative , I gues?
they were focused on their first game against Kukoc. For the finals petty things like that arent MJ/Pipp's problems anymore they already showed what they needed to show the Bulls Mngt
Any team with Bill Russell and Wilt Chamberlain would be the greatest team ever. Their defense alone would shut down everyone. With Russell rebounding and Wilt scoring it would be game over for every other team.
I alwasy said 2-Time College Player of The Year and National Champion Christian Laetner got to ride shotgun on The Greatest Team ever assembled and I loved every minute of it.

Because he deserved to be on the team and was literally conspired against to keep him off. He was the ONLY other NBA champion and Finals MVP from that era and beat ALL the other guys on the team but somehow wasn't on it? It should be mentioned every time that team is discussed.

They keep saying the Dream Team lost to the Select Team but he actually cut the scrimmage short before it was over so there was no way they could make a comeback (although they were not playing great at that point). Also, one player that would have messed up Daly's plan is Jordan so he couldn't play him much at all. That was very smart on his part.

More than 3, actually! Jordan, Pippen, Malone, Bird, Barkley, and Magic did not want him on the team! But, for some odd reason, Jordan is the only one that get's a bad rap for it.

They won.

coaching lol they were playing the weakest international teams I have ever seen they just had to show up[ and collect the medals.
I can only imagine those scrimmage games at practice. Between the talent, basketball iq and competitiveness those games had to be incredible to see.
Also while everyone says it was Jordan that kept Isiah off the team, I have a feeling there were more voices against Isiah being on vs those for him being on.
The Greatest Team ever Assembled
also, Coach Daly is the biggest influencer in this team.
Imagine if they had let pros play before, during the era with Elgin Baylor, Wilt, Oscar Robertson, jerry west, john Havlecik, kareem, probably more names I'm forgetting.

It was just an incredibly exciting time to be a fan.
more content from the 90s please. Best Basketball-Era ever!
I will use part of Magic’s words to share my comment here: “NO QUESTION ABOUT IT” THAT THAT WAS THE BEST TEAM EVER ASSEMBLED!

That Panama was as legendary as the Angola line by the Chuckster 😂😅
Weak
Any team with Bill Russell and Wilt Chamberlain would be the greatest team ever. Their defense alone would shut down everyone. With Russell rebounding and Wilt scoring it would be game over for every other team.
I totally loved that team. ❤❤❤❤❤.
The only thing missing is the practice scrimmage of the Dream Team... the public wants it!
I alwasy said 2-Time College Player of The Year and National Champion Christian Laetner got to ride shotgun on The Greatest Team ever assembled and I loved every minute of it.
Why do they always being up the Tony Kukoc shutdown and not mention his second game vs the Dream Team? He got his second highest output of the games and that’s quite a feat considering the talent gap.
The point was proven on the first matchup. And the reason behind the point is why. It's good he did better the second time around. Didn't matter much
Because the dream team is over rated.

It is weird having the coach but not a single of his players...its like if Phil Jackson was the coach but not having Shaq, Kobe, MJ or scottie on the team. But Isaiah only had himself and Bill lambeer to blame
It was so cool growing up to have been a part of watching this exciting chapter in sports history. I remember waiting for months in advance in early 1992 for the first game to get underway.
My brother and I even had the poster in our room, and I’d love to know where it now is.
11 HOF players is just mind blowing. Starters and bench players were HOF except 1 college player. Some one on comment section on youtube said, 92 Dream Team were not allowed to play 100% just 50% - 60%.
The 1992 U.S. Olympic Dream Team is the best basketball 🏀 team ever assembled to play in the Olympics 🏀🥇🇺🇲👍❣️ My personal favorite player got to play in Barcelona, Spain, Ervin "Magic " Johnson 🏀🥇🇺🇲👍💛💜
Shaq should've been there instead of Laettner. But we know the deal
Yea if you look back now . but the assistant was coach K of course Laettners coach at Duke . Also Laettner was coming off arguably the best year of college player has ever had.
You don't need 3 centers. They already got Ewing and Robinson.
No other player was as impressive in 4 straight final fours. Most points, rebounds, in final four stats combined.
@Jay-sn5uz didnt realize she was a male player.
There are a handful of reasons why I wish Shaq made the team ahead of Laettner, but let's not forget how much more accomplished Laettner was than Shaq at that point.
Absolutely the greatest team ever assembled!!
Nope 2000
2008
Put some respect on Toni Kukoč’s name he got 16 points 9 assists in the finals…both Scottie and Jordan had positive things to say about him after that game smh
Bulls was my favorite team as a kid and i like kukoc more than pippen
Lets not forget how Phil Jackson called the last play for toni kukoc instead of pippen 😅
How come every time we talk about the dream team, we have to throw a pity party for Isaiah Thomas? The guy chose to be a part of the Piston's reputation, even reveled in it. Now 30 years later we have to mention him so he doesn't keep crying about it on TV.
Because he deserved to be on the team and was literally conspired against to keep him off. He was the ONLY other NBA champion and Finals MVP from that era and beat ALL the other guys on the team but somehow wasn't on it? It should be mentioned every time that team is discussed.
This Is the greatest team of all time in history of NBA the dream team
Dream Team ‘92 was the best NBA advertisement ever.
NBA owed that Dream Team for the global audience
Malika: The 92' Olympics team dominated the competition to win the gold medal, this came just a few months after Magic Johnson announced his retirement due to his career ending HIV diagnosis.
Simply the Greatest team ever assembled!
i remember the first game the dream team played, my mom sent to the store to get something. the streets were empty. EVERYONE was watching.
as a croatian , we were so so proud of being in the final ... no team like Dream team 1992 😄
I remember Spain and Croatia as the ones that put up a proper fight.
I can watch this over and over again
In australia, the dream team gained coverage on our tvs. Normally the aussie media shows aussies at the games and a few minutes of other countries not involving australia. That dream team made it to our tvs, they were showing most of the games. I hope u americans really have a grasp on the magnitude of what this team did globaly. No other US team will ever come close.
They were unstoppable
With all the undeniable greatness of the Dream Team, they still only managed the SECOND highest average margin of victories for an Olympics.
1956 - and the team led by Bill Russell - was even MORE dominant.
As a long time Detroit Pistons fan I couldnt care less about Zeek not being a part of The Dream Team. It is what it is and The Dream Team is who they are and that's facts🔥
It speaks to Isiah's own greatness that whenever they talk about the 92 Dream Team, he has to be mentioned as the glaring omission. A lot of people weren't selected for that team, so why single him out?
Surprised she didn’t start by telling us that the dream team are bad people and then bring up any issues in their past even if they didn’t actually get in trouble for said issues
Bird magic and his airnes is the best trio of all time if this 3 join together in one team maybe 12 ring they will get to each other
I love throwbacks 💯
To this day, even with all the scoring and evolution of players and athletes, this '92 team is still the best and most dominating EVER assembled. And who led it? None other than the G.O.A.T himself Mj! As great as lebron has been, he's not at this level of greatness. Lebron's greatest strength is his consistency and longevity.
Jordan led the 84 olympic team to a gold, LBJ failed to deliver the same during 2004 olympics and 2006 fiba thats why they had to get Kobe to show who really is the better player
@xdome25 MJ led '84 and '92 smfh 🤦♂️. Could care less about lebron, lol or kobe on this topic. Not lbj or kobe redeem team EVER came close to the dominance of this dream team.
Lebron is good with bunch of holes in his career, no where near the greats of past. 92 Dream Team I think was not lead by any player, led by their Coach Chuck Daly.
Love that even blowing teams out, Jordan still found a way to make it personal (Kukoc)
The Greatest team of all time !
Nope 2000 and 2004 were
The only time we were disappointed was when the Olympics ended and they went their separate ways! With the Gold Medal of course!
This is the Dream Team!!!
Magic pulled out the classic “They don’t love you like Kobe” 😂😂
They keep saying the Dream Team lost to the Select Team but he actually cut the scrimmage short before it was over so there was no way they could make a comeback (although they were not playing great at that point). Also, one player that would have messed up Daly's plan is Jordan so he couldn't play him much at all. That was very smart on his part.
Anyone desperate way to make the dream team not look bad. Face it, they lost. No excuses.
@@younglove3362 No excuses…only the truth.
@@jtremaine23
Whatever makes you feel good. Even the dream team ain't making that excuse. A well executed plan by C Daily to make Even Jordan fall in line. That's the fact.
@@younglove3362 It doesn't make me feel good or bad. It just is. The DT isn't making any excuses because they probably feel they shouldn't have been down in the 1st place which is understandable. But Daly didn't make MJ fall in line as he didn't need to. He sure didn't make him fall in line when MJ saw Kukoc lol.
@jtremaine23
That's the reason they kept it secret for multiple years and didn't tell it until later. Because of delusional irrational people like you searching for excuses to desperately try and make it seem like it's not as bad as it seems. 🙄
A couple years later, Toni was was dominate that year MJ retired, and a key player in those last 3 Bulls championships. Meanwhile, Isiah Thomas is still mad and better to this day.
I hope all those jerseys made it to a museum for people to enjoy in person.

Did stockton deserve to be there? Yes!

Истинная команда мечты. И огромный талант тренеров, чтобы уравновесить индивидуальность каждого.
Remember the toughest match prior to Barcelona Olympics, they played in Monaco in practice , against each other
You forgot their scrimmage against college players at their training camp before they went to Portland for the Olympic qualifier.
Woke up at dawn probably 2 am consistently to watch the game live on tv due to time differences.
Still blaming MJ for Thomas not being there. At least half the team despised him. Incredible.
Thomas was not a “glaring” omission, just an omission. Johnson said pretty much all the players didn’t want to have Isiah on the team. No matter what, he wasn’t missed
The Dream Team was literally the equivalent to watching The Avengers on a sports stage.

The 92 Dream Team is still the greatest team ever.

The interesting thing is that summer, there was some question as to whether John Stockton would be able to play due to injury. Had Stockton not been able to go, Chuck Daly was set to replace him with his own Detroit Pistons guard....
Joe Dumars. (Source: "Dream Team" by Jack McCallum, p 178-180)
Yeah because Michael had already made it clear he wouldn't play with Isiah. The last point guard on the depth chart on the worst team in the league was gonna make that team before Isiah.
Im with Coach Daly's on his lesson of showing them theyre not infallibe which in turn probably helped them to not underestimate their opponents...i think thats literally the worse thing u can do when competing..from a street fight to college basketball, Target Practice and so on ..Never Underestimate Your Opponent..me personally i hate blowouts.. especially during special events like Finals or Super Bowl.. I've been on teams like that in high school where we blowing them out so badly it really aint even fun anymore and for me if someone is paying money to see me play i always want to give them their money's worth..me being apart of a winning team is great and fun but slaughtering an opponent is usually pretty boring to me so i know the fans must hate it too
