    Always been afraid to take apart controllers and consoles.
    But replacing the thumbstick seems very easy. Might give it a go.

      It can definitely be daunting and newer controllers have more components but retro controllers aren't so bad 😊 A good tip is to use your phone and take pictures each time you remove a part so you can remember what it's supposed to look like when putting it back together. Best of luck!

    I rather replace it with the original version! And just get extras just in case they get worned out again !

      Fair enough! Extras are a good idea too

    Nice review! I thought about replacing my original sticks with one of these but a common complaint that I've read about joysticks of this type is that they feel a little too sensitive for games that require short precise movements. I went for replacing the worn-out plastic gear pieces in the original sticks. I got decent results out of it but I feel they would have turned out better if I replaced the actual joystick part of it too as those also wear out. Despite that little issue though I think these would work nicely with most other games. I would prefer using a joystick like this for something like Mario kart.

      @SvennyMcG  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Mario Kart would definitely play similar to 1080 Snowboarding here, I agree. Good feedback on the precision part, I haven't yet noticed any issues but something to consider for specific games. It's relatively cheap to buy a 3rd party N64 controller for those instances and use this stick replacement for a controller that was otherwise inoperable too 😊

      The kit shown here is a precision set I bought at a local Canadian Tire. It has Y-bits which I wanted for some retro cartridges 👍

    I'm very curious about this stick because it's pretty new I think and has the most accurate gate of any gamecube stick and I think you have the only review of it. I would get one to test but XYAB is a wholesale company and I would have to buy at least 20 and I can't find anyone selling it

    • @SvennyMcG

      Hi! I can definitely do a follow up video showcasing some gameplay with this stick 👍 It's true that XYAB is a wholesale business but if you approach your local retro store and provide them with my discount link in the description perhaps they'll place an order for you 😊👍

    OMG that intro LOL.
    I one time bought a really good shape red controller and I think it had replacement joystick I don't know if it was the installer or if whatever company made a mistake( not the one in the video) or explains why it was in really good shape maybe it was original.but I think it was wired slightly wrong. I always use Golden eye as my test game because of the menu screen when you pick your account.
    It was from what I remember up was down down was up or left was right right was left or both
    I got lucky (LOL back to first part of video) bought a box of parts controllers on eBay. didn't even realize there was a 64 controller or what was left of one in that box .
    the previous person I guess was trying to do modifications or fix something on their 64 controller it was a gray controller all the part in a ziplock freezer bag with all the screws.
    The joystick was virtually brand new with it so instead of messing with this gray controller it's in pieces and was missing a couple of little pieces here and there.
    I just took joystick and put it in the red controller .
    good as new I have the messed up red joystick I think with that gray controller someday I will go back to it and see if I can switch some of the pins around

      @SvennyMcG  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Haha glad you enjoyed it pal 🤣 What a bizarre story regarding that red controller! I wonder if the wires were plugged in backwards in that case (white cable to the right)? Maybe that would have caused the confusion 🤔

    Large dead zone and too much sensitivity with these gamecube style joystick replacements. Severe lack of precise movements. Aiming in Goldeneye is terrible, small turning adjustments in racers such as F-zero X are really bad. It's a decent casual gamers experience if they weren't ever used to being good or plan on getting good at any of these games.

    • @SvennyMcG
      @SvennyMcG  2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      I've heard that as well, especially in precision games like those you mentioned. 1080p Snowboarding shown is rather slow in contrast and worked well. For that reason I may not recommend tearing apart functional N64 controllers to install these Game Cube replacements but if your N64 stick is broken and not going to work for GoldenEye anyhow, this option is better than none. Thanks for watching 👍

    This joystick is way to sensitive on some games for some reason.

    • @SvennyMcG
      @SvennyMcG  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I've seen some say that this stick has more movement than the analog 8-points of the original stick. It's a good solution for a broken stick replacement but I wouldn't swap out a working stick for one

    EWWWW GameCube joysticks!
    ...while I'll admit they GCN sticks have a better longevity to them, they never felt right playing Smash Bros 2, which is the reason I was never really interested in any of the sequels.
    I hope you didn't throw away the OEM joystick assembly, since it could be valuable to those who would rather fix that style.

    • @SvennyMcG

      Nothing gets thrown away 😊
      Everyone certainly has their preferences, this video is namely to provide options to all and not declare a definitive solution 👍
      Love Smash Bros though 🙌
