  • EPISODE 32!!!
The last couple of months have proved to be a bit of a challenge.
After returning from an incredible three week holiday travelling around Thailand, coming home to find out my routine of editing had taken a hit.
Working tirelessly over the last four weeks to raise enough money to purchase the new laptop left me very little time to spend working and filming progress on the boat. So unfortunately this episode is slightly shorter than most.
But with the new up to date MacBook Pro, editing has become a dream. This episode took half the time to complete than usual, so hopefully that'll mean I will be able to start producing more content a bit more regularly!
Getting right into the first job, it's time to install the grated bronze skin fitting for the raw water intake. you know what that means?
Time to drill another hole through the hull!!!
Its also a very exciting time, as the bespoke stainless steel water tanks arrived from the fabricators and its time to get them up onto the boat and test fitted into the bilge.
If you enjoyed the video, please be sure to hit that subscribe button and give it a thumbs up, it's the best way to help the channel grow!

You can get top of the line Windows laptops with all the latest fastest spec for about €1600,- so I can't justify the additional 1000 or more for comparable hardware from Apple.

Clearly it doesn’t do the job anymore. Most likely the updated software uses an OS feature not available on the old OS. Similarly new OS’s can’t always run on old hardware for similar reasons.

Good to see youback at it, Finn. Most of us have been faced with the reality of having to upgrade computers that have become obsolete, usually because the industry has built in obsolescence to force you to keep buying new hardware to support the latest software. Been there.
The boat is looking great. Really nice to see the other oyster smack to have a vision where your going and the rig arrangement as well.

You are such a natural on film, a kindhearted, extremely capable, 100% likable, and intelligent articulate person, always a pleasure to watch, listen to, learn from, and gain inspiration from. The plastic valve is perfect. My boat is 23 years old and has 15 factory installed Forespar Marlon sea cocks and all still work perfectly. Two things though using a scoop thru hull may over pressure your seawater impeller and flood the engine while sailing. Also putting an elbow on your thru hull may cause problems in the future for maintenance. I have scoops for air conditioners and water maker, those both use centrifugal pumps. My engine uses just uses a 1 1/2” straight thru hull and never clogs up with anything.

Good to see you back! And sorry for your pain!!
For anyone else with these kinds of painful IT problems, I strongly suggest moving to Davinci Resolve. It's a bit of a learning curve after FC, but it is far more capable with the best colour grading of any editor. And it is free!! The free version is more than is needed for the vast majority of TH-cam vids. But if you do want to move to the studio version, for instance you are editing 8k footage, then it is a one off cost including future updates. No subscription. And it is available for Mac, Windows, and iPad Pro (M1 or M2). The iPad version is so close to the desktop version too.
    Good luck and nice vid.

    • @TheBeaker59
      @TheBeaker59 ปีที่แล้ว +3

Plastic Valves don't really fail, they can get worn over many many years but that just means they don't close properly by a couple of percent which just isn't an issue. Brass however can slowly lose strength due to electrolysis then suddenly totally fail granted that takes a very long time but it can happen. On my boat I have a mixture and its only the Brass ones I worry about. Not that I have had any of them fail.

I noticed that you were using Loctite 577.. I myself was tempted to use it for my engine water intake. But reading the technical sheet, the firm does not recommend its use on plastics. Like me, you use a non-metallic ball valve... Aren't you afraid that the glue will weaken the valve?
Is this glue also compatible with drinking water?
