    I would love to see how you set the timing! Something I will be doing once it gets a little warmer here in Michigan.

      As soon as I get that far I will go through setting the timing as thoroughly as I can. I had to modify the order in which I had planned to do things because the oil pan on the replacement engine won't work in the w124. I have to pull the old engine and swap pans before I can continue reassembling the engine.

    I just started my attempt to tear down while in the car.So far, the crankshaft pulley bolt won't budge. I have the cams pinned at 45 degrees. I'm finding small bits of metal in the oil pan which tells me I'm doing the right thing removing the timing cover instead of trying to thread another timing chain through the engine.

      They make a tool to lock the crankshaft. I'm pretty sure the transmission needs to be out to use it though. There are ways to hold the crankshaft in place. Just gotta get creative. It's never a bad idea to remove the timing cover. Sometimes it's necessary. I'm sure a lot of the metal in my oil was from the timing chain guide pins that were being chewed up by the timing chain after several guides broke.

    Hey, I have a 94 E320 Wagon and she is mint and I just purchased a Salvage Title SL500 1994 for $1000 and would love to swap the M119 into my wagon. I have done a couple of LS swaps but this time I would love to keep it all Mercedes. How complex do you think it will be to get all the electronics to work? Engine Harness to Body etc.

      I don't think it would be too difficult. I've never done it myself but back then a lot of parts are the same no matter which engine it used. Just get all control modules with the donor engine and you're golden. The tricky part is you're going r129 engine into w124 chassis. Not 6 cyl w124 to 8 cyl w124. Component locations will be different so harness lengths on certain sections will be different also. It's not impossible.

    Hi did you also changed the camshaft seal? If yes. What tool did you use for the install? I find it very hard mount these seals. Very glad for your reply 😊

      If you are referring to the seal in the timing cover for the exhaust camshaft, I used a socket that was close to the same size as the seal but slightly smaller to tap it in.

      @@FriendlyMBTech Hi I refer to the seals behind the caps, and rotor…what ever I do its goes a litle sideways and the litle tiny round metalspring in the seal flips out from the seal. It makes me crazy, Im about jump of a bridge 🤣…It must require a special tool I think…the engine also goes way to ”fat”..I can smell it even after cold start and warm , to much choke. I dont know where to troubleshoot…

      @callelindstrom4789 looking at the instructions, they state, to insert sleeve 119 589 00 14 00 to exhaust camshaft then to "press seal in with sleeve (shop made) 5mm. So the tool with the part number is to slide the sealing surface onto tue camshaft without damaging it but the shop made too is to actually press the seal in.

    How much this overhaul job cost?

      Not including labor and paying full price for parts, so far about $6k not including the price of the used engine which was $1,500.

    Unfortunately for me I need to go deeper in the tear down than you did. I found some deep cuts in cylinder #4 that I can catch a fingernail on. I’m not sure if honing is enough to fix it or I need a liner. I show the cuts in detail in the above video. Any suggestions you have for me going forward would be appreciated. Thanks again.
