yes i to watch woodshop junkies and your channel, your projects are great and have given me some great ideas for my small workshop here in Wales, many thanks
Recently subscribed! Recently Retired US Army Officer and greatly appreciate your organizational madness! I salute you! Great channel and enjoy your passion, my prediction you will be at 500k + by third quarter 2020!!!! Shop Nation I am a fan!
Woodshop Junkies is a GREAT channel. Love this version of "sanding organizer" , in fact love most of your ideas, please keep going....my shop needs ALL of this stuff!! ( it's in the basement ... someplace ... under all the usual "basement stuff") Thanks again !
It was nice that you gave props to Woodshop Junkies. I recognized some of his influence in this project. Also, I like how the belts rack sticks out more and is easy to get to. The paint is also great. This was a really nice project! Thanks for this! it gives me ideas for my next wall cabinet (all on French Cleats by the way...).
It's cool how TH-camrs watch other TH-camrs. And yes, Woodshop Junkies is one of the other channels I subscribe to. His folding shelves are very cool. Trying to figure out how to incorporate some of them in my future shop.
Wopdshop Junkies is a favourite of mine, hes a clever, clever man. I'm relatively new to Shop Nation but I've enjoyed every video. 👍🏻👍🏻 So jealous of your space 😂😂
Nice build. I just built a sandpaper station a little while ago, not as fancy as yours, but it gets the job done. I believe that anything that helps organize the shop is a plus. Your videos are an inspiration to those of us that are just starting our TH-cam channel, thank you.
So I know this is a two year old build, but I just finish mine. I love it. I made a few mistakes but nothing I couldn't correct and it builds on my skill level. Just a few notes about the sanding squares section. The plans do not make mention that you need to add the clear acrylic parts in the track 'before' you add the bottom, otherwise you can't get them in. There is also no reference to how these clear pieces stay in place above the first block so you can pull them out. No big deal but you do have to block the track at those points. Finally, this section of the cabinet is too deep. I thought I made a mistake but the plans say 6.5" deep and if you do that then the blocks can go to far back into the cabinet. I needed to add another back to decrease the depth for these sanding pads. Again, just sharing. If you haven't built this you should. Buy the plans. Well worth it. Thanks Travis.
Amazing project! A tip I learned from an old carpenter was just a piece of plywood the width and length of a belt sander belt with the corners rounded so the belt barely fits over it. There you have your sanding block
Just one of the top channels for what you do. You are a master craftsman. I was curious if you could do a video on your 3D set up. Perhaps the fundamentals, equipment required and prices for a good quality setup. Perhaps you already done one? Can’t wait for the next show!
I would recommend getting a Bosch GET 75 dual turbo sander. It's a slightly superior sander to the Festool Rotex, but at half the price. I threw my belt sander in the garbage (sold it) as soon as I tried it. The turbo mode is geared similar to a grinder, so it really hogs out material as fast as a belt sander, and you use the same sanding discs as your orbital sander, so you don't have to buy all those belts, and you save time on sanding since the linear marks caused by the belts are harder to take off. Plus, it's way easier to control and you don't run the risk of leaving gouges like a belt sander does. TThe other mode is a random orbit just like on the Festool Rotex. You can attach many pads including buffing pads. Really is night and day in my sanding.
Hey lol I actually just bought a battery powered sander explicitly just for using when i am down at the boat and i need to re-varnish trim pieces and stuff....it's a lot more convenient than having to run extension cords from the dock all the way down the finger pier and up onto the boat
Love your vids mate. I’m starting a complete refit on my small fab workshop. You’ve inspired me heaps. My refit starts on Australia Day 26th January 2020. I’m hoping you may get some time to have a look and comment and give advice. Cheers.
What a great project! Seriously well thought out and executed. I've been wanting to do something similar for a while. This just might get me in gear to get it done. Thanks!
I've got a hanger on my French cleats for my random orbit sander and four grits under it which I can pull off the wall when I need it. So it's a way smaller and simpler setup. I may have to upgrade to this when I do more with my belt sander.
Great build only thing I would change is making room for all finishing tools to keep together. I have ocd when it comes to stuff like that. It would drive me crazy having my sanding/ files stuff in two locations.
Like the build! One thing I wanted to comment on and I've started seeing people in videos doing this recently... @4:36 and again @4:46 you're using a push block (great!), but totally forget about your left hand and just run it right next to the blade, even closer than the hand with the pushblock. If you're using a push block, your off-hand should be nowhere near the blade (for that matter, your left hand shouldn't go past the table edge at any time during a rip, ideally). I've seen a couple of people with Sawstops have inadvertent engagement of the safety mechanism (they they documented) because of this mental lapse, and not seen, but surmise a number of undocumented, non-Sawstop catastrophes. Both hands are worth protecting, of course. Get in the habit of thinking "I'm using a push block so my other hand should be off the table and away from the material/saw." It's barely even worth mentioning considering the gravity of what I just mentioned, but pushing from the left side of the blade could cause a kick back so we should try to avoid that, as well. I'm not the safety police but people look to woodworking videos on YT for instruction and may pick up a bade habit and it would be nice to avoid an injury.
So much easier to be organized if we ever keep items together and keep tract of how much time is wasted looking for something . But I know how fast it gets away from us I’m just guilty of same thing at end of long day🤪but just few minuets cleaning up work area and it’s done I like your simple easy to get to sanding supply’s mine is stuffed into drawer like you had Thanks for the video got new project for later today now if I could only find my tape measure🤬
Man, this looks great. I wish you would do a video to really show your painting. I have that same gun and can never get my paint to look that good. Especially with it all assembled. Always gets runny.
Sheet sander vs random orbit... sheet sander you get less pillowing with the hard sheet sander backing vs the ROS that (because of the hook and loop padding) can cause pillowing while sanding.
Can you do a video of your cleanup process of the Graco spray gun? I have one, like a lot of people do, and I feel like I could be a lot more proficient at cleaning it after each use. Thanks in advance.
Plywood is getting pretty expensive, what plywood do you use for your shop projects. Thanks for the videos they have made me decide to redesign my entire garage shop because its so inadequate compared to yours. One day I dream to have a shop as nice as yours is going to be.
Another great video. Totally different topic, but have you thought of different ways to incorporate smart home tech into the work shop? I’ve been thinking through this recently and can see a use for smart plugs and lights in certain areas, but there may be other things I haven’t considered. Be interested to hear your take on it.
@@ShopNation agreed. I just purchased a smart bot switch (device that physically pushes a button or flips a switch via Bluetooth or WiFi) to turn off a vacuum pump. Cool that it can turn old tech into new tech and add some safety for my shop.
I assume someone will comment that sheet sanders are less aggressive and used for more delicate jobs. Like if you're sanding something you put a ton of time and money into and really don't want any problems. Sanding antiques or heirloom furniture.
First off I love Jean and his tiny woodshop, and you have modified his design beautifully, but I pose the same question to you that I posed to Jean, do you have a solution for managing used sandpaper? I typically have multiple grits, multiple paper types all slightly to 70% used, and they are my big organization issue, almost need second storage system just for them.
Just put the used ones back on the top of the stack. If you are starting a new project and want to use a brand new one then just pull out the stack and grab a pad or sheet from the bottom.
For me I have a sand paper box that has a section dedicated to used paper. Sometimes the edges get worn enough to where they get designated for hand sanding only.
I'm not to impressed with the rectangular sanders either due to the lack of hook and loop pads but If you go with Festool, all their stuff is hook and loop including the rectangular and delta pads. Mirka might even offer hook and loop for their rectangular sanders as well but I'm not for sure.
Would love to hear what you think about the project! As a reminder, full color plans available HERE: bit.ly/3Hkvwoh
Happy Building!
@shopnation Where did you get your paint tent and turn-table?
yes i to watch woodshop junkies and your channel, your projects are great and have given me some great ideas for my small workshop here in Wales, many thanks
Thanks for the shout out! Awesome project also. I need to start painting my stuff. Looks way better.
Anytime, you do great work as well
When you complete your saw will you try to mount it in your work station?
Bro, that trick of loading masonite strips in the tracks before you paint, is a Big Brain move. Awesome!
Recently subscribed! Recently Retired US Army Officer and greatly appreciate your organizational madness! I salute you! Great channel and enjoy your passion, my prediction you will be at 500k + by third quarter 2020!!!! Shop Nation I am a fan!
At first I thought it was way too big, but the more I think of it it is just right. Very nice design.Thank you for sharing!
just found your channel. Already like it! the 5'' sanding disk block....bought it! THAT makes total sense.
Well.. this deserves a follow!
Woodshop Junkies is a GREAT channel.
Love this version of "sanding organizer" , in fact love most of your ideas, please keep going....my shop needs ALL of this stuff!! ( it's in the basement ... someplace ... under all the usual "basement stuff")

I like the Folded over Cardbord Trick when cutting the Grooves for Hardy Board

Super build! Love the integration of so many different sanding media and the use of 3d printed parts!
The tent spray booth is genius!
That is one sweet organizer. Well done Travis. As always, GBO!
You are doing nice work and creating great content. Keep up the great work. Thanks for sharing.
Nice work Travis! I think everyone could use some shop organization! I probably need it more than anyone!
Wopdshop Junkies is a favourite of mine, hes a clever, clever man. I'm relatively new to Shop Nation but I've enjoyed every video. 👍🏻👍🏻
So jealous of your space 😂😂
I am going to build this. This is really an excellent video
Awesome sauce. Just like all Shop Nation projects.
Loved the flag reflection at 8:09. Clever...

Like the tent idea for spraying

Great feedback, thank you!
Nicely done my friend! I also need this for my workshop, because I have the same problem. All my sanding tools are in 1 drawer.
I love your paint station in a tent... such a good idea. Stealing that one!
I love the idea of using the magnets to hold in the dowl.
I never knew about sanding blocks for the circle pads. No offense, best thing i learned in the video. Lol.
Amazing project! A tip I learned from an old carpenter was just a piece of plywood the width and length of a belt sander belt with the corners rounded so the belt barely fits over it. There you have your sanding block
God, I need to do that too. Like you, all my sanding stuff is crammed in a drawer. Nice build, thanks for ccx sharing. 👍
Compact, neat and efficient. Love it!!
Awesome, looks really smart.
Great design like the integrated charging.
Amazing work
Great build Travis! I enjoy all your videos and projects. I will definitely have to borrow some of your design features for my own sanding cabinet.
Well done! Keep up the great work - really enjoy the channel.
That turned out awesome...may need to build myself one
This video was so good.. I almost want to just not like you.. but I do.. and I subscribed.. so keep on rockin brother!
Great build might add this to my shop

I loved that green tape you used....would have been a nice accent color for this build.
Great Video! Awesome cabinet.
That project is dope! Well done 👍

YES!!!🙌🏻🙌🏻🙌🏻🙌🏻 I’ve been looking for a sanding storage/station thanks for the inspiration
LOVE THIS!
This is amazing. I will definitely use most of this functionality in my project.
Less talky! More work! Lol
The boat joke was funny tho lolz

Awesome video! Subscribed!
Good texture on your work dude..
Peace out..
Great build, Travis~! Yet another thing now going onto my "To Do" list~!
love it
Nice job! I definitely need something like this soon. Also, took me a second at 7:38 to realized what changed 😂
I like this one a lot!
Sweet design Travis. Love the 3d printed parts. Just got a Monoprice Mini Pro excited to try it out. Your designs come out very clean
You are alive!!! Hope you're staying sane. #babylife
What a great project! Seriously well thought out and executed. I've been wanting to do something similar for a while. This just might get me in gear to get it done. Thanks!
Did anyone else appreciate the irony of watching him sand a sanding storage station?
I've got a hanger on my French cleats for my random orbit sander and four grits under it which I can pull off the wall when I need it. So it's a way smaller and simpler setup. I may have to upgrade to this when I do more with my belt sander.

Nice cap bro..from philippine
Good work.... keep up
Nice work! (Next build idea-we need to see a charging station).
As soon as I saw the custom/magnetic roll holder I knew I had found an over-engineer I could relate to.
Awesome!
Man, this looks great. I wish you would do a video to really show your painting. I have that same gun and can never get my paint to look that good. Especially with it all assembled. Always gets runny.
106k and one subscribers today!
Nice!!
Sheeesh!...complicated...this took some thought...
I need to put sanding and shop towel organization on my project list. Plus, if I level up my "shop", these can easily be transplanted.
Your so lucky to have a drawer, I only have a bucket for my sanding bits. But I think I'll try something like LEGO but sectional and hung on cleats?
Genius!
Sheet sander vs random orbit... sheet sander you get less pillowing with the hard sheet sander backing vs the ROS that (because of the hook and loop padding) can cause pillowing while sanding.

3D printer is looking reallllllll nice right about now
You should sell these as build kits. All the parts in a box ready for assembly.

I have actually, I use a sensor to kick on my dehumidifier when the garage door is closed. Good future topic

You and woodshop junkies are 2 of the hottest makers on TH-cam 🙈
I don’t have a 3D printer but would love to buy those parts. Any chance you sell them or know someone who does? Great design. Planning the build now!
I am redoing my whole 3rd stall and pretty sure I am just going to go ahead and steal almost everything you have. Lol
Very nice. Where did you get the spinner for pieces in the paint tent? I have that same tent from rockler. It’s awesome
I assume someone will comment that sheet sanders are less aggressive and used for more delicate jobs. Like if you're sanding something you put a ton of time and money into and really don't want any problems. Sanding antiques or heirloom furniture.
I thought to let you know I sent for the plants to build this paid for received nothing and it been over a month. I hope you will take care of this.
Nice
I liked the battery storage piece at the end, how did you do that?
First off I love Jean and his tiny woodshop, and you have modified his design beautifully, but I pose the same question to you that I posed to Jean, do you have a solution for managing used sandpaper? I typically have multiple grits, multiple paper types all slightly to 70% used, and they are my big organization issue, almost need second storage system just for them.
Hmm great question, they have enough life that you want to hang on to them yet should be in their own spot.

@@dylancummings398 Exactly. This is not that complicated, folks.
nice
Whats the overall width and height of it? would it be a pain to add a door? may have to buy these plans but id NEED a door hahaha nicely done

Omg, was that just a small 1 man tent used as a paint booth?!? I'm so doing that for small paint projects!
It’s an actual product, link in the description
Nice! Perfect ;)
